Well, the audio is mixed to be soft by default. I really need to turn up master volume by 5-6dB, then everything sounds immersive and bass hits very hard. I always keep my subwoofer at same level (not a bass head) throughout all movies so that I can judge bass performance of every one of them. For the video, it's grainy but I like it. I extracted the video from Blu-ray and cropped it to 2.5:1 so that the black bars are smaller.
How can you give the audio an 8.0 if it uses all the speakers throughout the movie? Just because there may be lack of placement for some objects in the movie...
Seeing Shane going back to his more classic reviews is so refreshing. Also, the movie itself is okay I guess. Could've been better but the concept was admittedly amazing and had a lot of potential if the script was better
Shane you’re one of the only guys on RUclips that does proper 4K movie reviews. You’re my go to before I spend money on a disc so please keep doing these
I thought the movie looked and sounded great. People need to get over 'grain' - digitally introduced or not. If that's what the filmmakers wanted then just go with it. Unless your James Cameron... urgh!
The Creator’s grain helps the VFX look more realistic but also it is a very annoying grain structure. Without this grain or with a lighter grain, it would’ve looked beautiful. It’s already low resolution and the grain just makes it worse. The sound is what I love about this movie the most. I had originally seen it in ScreenX, the director’s recommended format for this movie.
Amazing review. I was suprised to hear about the disappointing bass response. I saw it in Dolby Cinema (w/ Atmos) and the bass response was aggressive as hell in there. I made sure to see this in a 2.39:1 location and I loved the use of the 2.76:1 AR. But I recently watched this on a friend's 80 inch TV and it still looked small. I definitely need a projector for this.
It's hard to justify using an aspect ratio that wide. Almost anything you film with it looks vertically restricted. Or you have to settle for much wider shots in which your main subjects look very small in frame. A taller aspect ratio is far more useful and easier to work with.
I've never heard of this movie. The last Sony camera I had was the A7S II I believe. I always had trouble with skin tones and lips were very purple. This was years and years ago so I'm sure the FX3 is much better. Anyway I went back to Canon even though they have their own issues. These days I'm using a Panasonic GH6 but with Canon lenses.
I thought The Creator was visually impressive. I did like how they added the grain in post. It gave the movie a more edgier look. I wasnt all that impressed with the sound though. The explosions could have been punchier. The story didn't make much sense though. Androids with only human faces and suicide robots. I had good time with it, you could do worse. Gareth Edwards should direct a Cyberpunk.movie.
Cyberpunk yeah ! Netflix did Edge runners anima and that looked awsome and sound explosions punched hard . If they did a film it would need 3 to 4 season's to scratch just the surface....also knowing hollywood it probably add their convoluted mess, over simplify the story make it generic boring predictable like on Ghost in the Shell.😂 what a shame.
Really enjoyed this movie, if you think of this movie as being inspired by Anime from the 80s and 90s then the grain and the overall look of the movie makes more sense, at least to me. Sad it's only on a BD-66 disc. Would have loved getting more out of it on a BD-100.
Cool visuals, nice spin on the typical AI plotlines. Not amazing, but something I would recommend. Big plot hole...why do they have holes in their heads instead of just blending in?
I saw this in the IMAX. Biggest black bars I have ever seen. The big explosions shook my seat a bit so that was fun. Otherwise pretty middle of the pack forgettable movie. It was a decent movie. Just nothing that makes it stand out from the rest.
Well, i thought the movie was pretty good. PQ & AQ was also good to my liking. It had a lot of Star Wars style along with some Tenet added.. It's a rewatchable flick....
Great review Shane, thanks. Personally, I thought this was a much better film - and a much better *looking* one - than either of Villeneuve's Dune movies (maybe not a popular opinion, but there it is). Not a big fan of the 2.78:1 aspect ratio though: There's a generation of movie goers who think that 2.35:1 is "letterboxed" because that's not just how they see it on their TVs, but how all too many theatres show it too. Obviously, it's *supposed* to be wider, not shorter. 2.78:1 on the other hand, IS letterboxed on virtually every screen it's ever seen on (I did see a video recently of a fella who has a Cinerama screen in his HT room, so for him it was great!).
The atmos sounds great, but i dont want to see this film just because worst color grading, overall this movie doesn't even go past 500 nits, bad dull visuals could have been brighter enough. Just because highlight something u wont make it every other thing darker, the framing/cinematography good but choice of colour grading is worst
Shane the true mix is actually 5.2.1 right? If remaining channels are performing, it is possibly due to feeding of the same sound to the other speakers right?
Watched this twice at the cinema on the same day of the opening weekend including in IMAX with Laser GT. Didn’t think it was anywhere near as bad as lots of online reviews would make you believe.
I thought the image looked like a 1080p and was really muddy and grainy. Really enjoyed the story so it was a bit of a shame. I would have had the scores the other way around.
Shane back with the 4K reviews, keep it up man!

You answered your own question.
Just went to order this on 4k then I realised it was Disney and I live in Australia. Disney sucks @ss.

I do reviews also, but using the Sony HT-A9 for them

A movie that deserves a lot more love.

Is that Ascendo speakers at the back ???? :D :D :D
LOL
The film is awesome! It actually gives a very plausible and logical view of the future. Visually, it was very impressive.

'HD Movie Source' rated that the bass in this movie is very deep.
Deep extension and SPL aren't the same.
@@patrickmiller4987 Hi. Can help to explain? I'm confused with the two.
@@liutungwei5160 A tone/frequency can be very low but not be very loud and vice versa. SPL is sound pressure level.

Hope Panasonic worked out their auto focus. It was horrendous in the GH5.
with 10bit everything changed

You are back baby 🎉 have miss the Movie rewis
Looks and sounds great, but I thought the movie was very dumb.
Why do people not like digital grain ? I don’t see many people in comments not liking it
Great review! Due to the Grain added to this movie, I’ll be skipping this purchase and get it on sale digitally when Apple makes it happens.
Excellent review as always!!!!
Welcome back Shane. we need your reviews weekly on the "Video & Audio" please on 4K UHD reviews. Thank you.

No disrespect to Dune 2 but this movie deserved the VFX Oscar.
Dune 2 will be up for the Oscar this year. Godzilla Minus One won last year.
rented this on Directv 4k (which is not the best) and it looked great. I need to get the 4k bluray
when is oppeheimer coming out
Great reviews😊 when’s the new 2024 home theatre tour?

Shane, are you in your new theater? I didn't know you finished it or started it. Where have i been?
Cool visuals, nice spin on the typical AI plotlines. Not amazing, but something I would recommend. Big plot hole...why do they have holes in their heads instead of just blending in?
Thank you for reminding me I need to buy this movie, really enjoyed it and can't wait to see it in 4K
I was disappointed with the physical disk. Most scenes looked soft, and I hate frigging grain. And yes, I hated the way this movie looked.
I saw this in the IMAX. Biggest black bars I have ever seen. The big explosions shook my seat a bit so that was fun. Otherwise pretty middle of the pack forgettable movie. It was a decent movie. Just nothing that makes it stand out from the rest.
Hello YT-Algorithm, how are you doing today?
When are you going to talk about your new theater room???
It's not finished yet.
Well, i thought the movie was pretty good. PQ & AQ was also good to my liking. It had a lot of Star Wars style along with some Tenet added.. It's a rewatchable flick....
You know im a grain Hater, but I'll be honest, the aspect ratio bothered me more than the grain.

Luv it cuz the poster.. Its just me iem guy ha3... Peace!
Great review Shane. Very thorough.
in Italy we noticed problems with this title, central channel with dynamic range reduced to +4db compared to all the others

Thanks Shane! It’s always a treat to get another 4K review! Did you ever review Oppenheimer 4K?
Are you going to do a saw x 4k review?

3:23 - Shane Flex! 😎💪
Not sure how you go from 8.7 to an 8.2 on physical because you can notice a slight difference at over 85".
Yes exactly. There’s a difference on large screens. Not everyone has a small display.
I loved the wider aspect of the movie ❤
Hi when do we get a look at your new cinema room
Felt conned watching this in IMAX with its ultra ultra ultra wide format, what was the point.
to replicate the "ultra panivision 70" ratio that some old blockbusters in the 50s/60s had such as 'Ben Hur'
I meant in relation to the IMAX format. Pointless showing it there.
keep your fantastic 4k reviews coming Shane have missed them.👍
I thought the image looked like a 1080p and was really muddy and grainy. Really enjoyed the story so it was a bit of a shame. I would have had the scores the other way around.
Demo disc link not working FYI 👍
Do you have any movies that you rated 10 for audio and 10 for video?
Look for his last movie review for that
@@kovalveli I'm looking for a video that Shane just does 10 out of 10.
He 10 of 10 on Dune 2 review
Don’t care how good it looks, the movie is a snoozer.
