Great behind-the-scenes look building a photography career. When you mentioned Luminous Landscape it took me back to my early days in photography and Michael Reichmann's videos. Started in landscapes and studies with Galen Rowell, then one day someone who knew my work asked if I could shoot a home. I thought, "sure - how different could it be?" LOL - right? Five years in and hundreds of homes shot and it's definitely one of those "if I only knew then what I know now" I'd have gone to bed a lot earlier many nights! :-)
Thanks for your time guys .. really inspiring & informative chat
48:11 Amen to that! On my 10 year streak, so far just handshakes and good ol "trust" has worked so far. All my clients are all "word-of-mouth" from other clients. Maybe that has kept me mentally in tact.
wow.so happy to see you up video again after 4years
Really interesting conversation guys! Thank you for your time! ❤️
Just when I thought this channel was dead, you go and post some freaking GOLD like this. Definitely one of the best interviews I've heard in a while. Up there with the BAAM podcast. Please do more!!
Thanks for the chat, we learn a lot with this kind of content. Could you make this a weekly/monthly thing?! haha cheers Mike and Tom!
Found this chat which I enjoyed immensely, great hearing your thoughts and stories, will now look for more of your content like this, my wish would be to be 40yrs younger and take up architectural photography, my 1st serious camera was a Zenit 11 back in the 80's. thanks guys
Really great talk guys, thanks for taking the time to put this together. Loved hearing about the environment at Hedrich-Blessing during Tom's time there and thinking about how we can use our relationships (virtual and otherwise) now to create something akin to that to lift ourselves up as a whole.
I thank you for your time and knowledge, but please understand not everyone gets the opportunity. There is huge population of people who do not have the resources much less the opportunity. I don’t want you to take this as a slight, just maybe a new perspective. 🙏🏽
Very insightful, thank you so much. It would be great to see you guys talking / discussing about some of your photos.
Hi everyone. Thanks you!
Hey! I know I'm late to the party, but do you guys use any CRM software or photo management (client-facing) software? This chat has been so invaluable!! THANK YOU!
these are SUPERB!! Wow. Thank you
Thanks for sharing your journey and insight and great conversation.
Hey Tom--good to hear from a fellow UW student! I was up in Oshkosh (graduated '94). An architect I started shooting for this year went to UW-M. Good school! Thanks for a great chat guys...
This is great! Thank you both so much for taking the time to do this.
This was awesome! Thanks for doing this. Mike you mentioned using the extender to get a 35mm t/s equivalent focal length. Which do you use? 1.4 on the 24mm or the 2x on the 17mm? And don’t you mind the quality loss of the extended?
Pretty sure he uses the 1.4 on the 24 mm
Only just seen this, thank you, very insightful. I have found the I prefer medium format for interiors (as long as I don't have to freeze movement), because the dynamic range is so good ,the image feels more natural to me than blending multiple exposures from 35mm. It's also quicker than doing all that post production. I happen to prefer 'Leaf' for colour than 'phaseone'. But the process is unbearable sometimes. So I also carry a Leica Q2 for quick shots and also an Olympus OMD for details and very long shots with a equivalent 600mm lens. Three systems on one job, not counting a Leica SL2 S for video. I think we have all become mini production companies now.
Only just caught up on this. This was brilliant. Superb interview from both of you and mega insightful.
Thanks :)
These are great! Do you have any suggestions on a place to start learning more about architecture?
TRUST and INSURANCE is all we need.
Nice chill chat. Finally caught up and listened to it :)
Can I still fire away a question a month later? :D - how do you schedule time when someone says "hey lets shoot this ..... project. It should be ready in about 2.5 months". I have so many of these "might be coming up somewhere" jobs. Just plop it in the calendar more or less acurately and follow up when the time gets there?
Absolutely, pencil it in and follow up as your schedule begins to fill. I have a few jobs three months out currently and about the time others start asking for those dates is when I'll circle back to those clients.
Also I didn't read who I was responding to until just now. What's up Tonu!?
@@tomharris7115 just pencil in those yt replies to august and when the time arrives.. :D
What value do you guys give (if you ever read this comment) -if ever- to shot for organizations like Airbnb?
Dante, only now just seeing this. I've personally negotiated with Airbnb in the past but it ended up not being worth my time. However this doesn't mean that working with organizations like Airbnb can't be valuable. Everything can be a stepping stone or can be used to build a portfolio, but if the time vs the worth isn't adding up just move on and don't worry about it.
Hi from Paris, Mike! I hope you'll make more of these, the content of ap almanac is great, but I still wanted more.
Best wishes for 2021
I will do my best to make more!
Thank you for this!
