🎶I never know where the doorbells are🎶
My name is Abhinav Kumar. I am a junior doctor (means any doctor who has not yet got the full license to practice independently, aka someone who is not yet a "Consultant") working in the UK. I did med school from India and got MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore in 2020. Then I spent 2 years during COVID working on PLAB exams which are like USMLE but for the UK. I eventually got a job in the UK and now I am working full-time as a doctor, with RUclips on the side for fun and information sharing.
Thanks.

Please answer me , I'm really confused. Is it better to do MD in India and then appear for MRCP to move to the UK or is the PLAB pathway better? If I complete MD in India, can I enter the UK speciality training in between, like ST 3 or 4 ???
@@Annexin5402 if you do MD first, you'll probably get a job as trust grade ST3 via the MTI pathway where your royal college sponsors you. Then once you're in UK, you can apply for ST4 interviews.
However for this, you shouldn't have ever failed PLAB.
@@drAbhinavKr Thank you so much

We are incredibly thankful to have international Drs and Nurses come to English speaking countries to care for our patients. Our healthcare systems are suffering greatly at this time, and they can’t survive without the addition of strong, smart and resilient healthcare migrants.
Thank you for this video. This helps so many doctors who didn't it make thru NEET PG.
I have been researching about the roadmap to the UK from some time so thank God I came across your video. So informative doc a big shoutout to you 🎉
One of the most informative videos on the subject ❤
You are really amazing and thank you so much for all the information and taking out your time to address all the details be it small or big, really appreciate your work and your information. Thank you so very much 😊
I'm the 1000th Like on your video. You explained very well. I'm doing MBBS from China, I will do the same as you did. I'm inspired by you dear brother. ♥️🙏🏻
Wow, quite extensive and very helpful. Thank you. :)
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching, doctor!
Thank you so much for making this video! Very well explained🤓

Thanks a lot. Ah the number of hours I put into pre and post production! Glad you appreciate it.

I just passed plab2. Planning an attachment soon and ALS from UK . Have an audit and some informal teaching experience. Anything else I can do to increase my chances?
You are already at peak performance. Just prepare on the emergency scenarios that you could possibly encounter in your chose department. After all, an SHO is often the first contact with an emergency patient, so your interviews could be based around that
All dought clear sir thanks you❤
A request from my side
*Plz make a video on junior doctors salary
Because I am looking forward to do my pg from uk
It's on my mind Akib. Will be making one soon
Extremely elaborative and informative video Dr Abhinav! Sharing your point of view on the whole process really helped me to understand how should I go about it in the future!
Quick question- Can we choose the city where we do our core and speciality training? Or it is based on our performance and rank? For example, if my partner and I want to be in the same city for the whole of our training, is that possible?
Looking forward to learning more from you!
Thanks sujal. Yes you can choose your deanery just like you would do for any med school in India after you pass NEET and list your preference. Ofc the higher rankers get priority in their choice.
However some trainings could have you rotate in different hospitals within your chosen deanery (a deanery can have 3-4 hospitals, often just 1 hospital in 1 city) for up to a year at a time cuz some departments may not be able to accommodate you in a certain hospital. But all these hospitals will still be within 1-2 hrs travel distance of one another. Car is kinda essential to working in UK but most people just move to the city of training
Or... You can do the CESR route where you stick with one hospital in an out of training program but you have to arrange your rotations yourself going back and forth with the HR to line up with training requirements
@@drAbhinavKr That's fantastic! Thank you Doc!

i am medical intern, 10 months behind graduation and i plan to take PLAB 2025; can you guide me in the journey, what things I need to do if any before completion of my MD? THNAK YOU AGAIN!
Thank you Doc for this very informative video. I got my MBBS degree from China and return to my home country Ghana and recently started preparations for the PLAB 1. With regards to the GMC registration, would there be any problem if I’m not certified in my country and also only did clinical rotations while preparing for my country’s license exam which I’ve opted not to take anymore?
You need to have a license of some country at the minimum. However you can email gmc directly and ask them what to do in this situation. Also, you can join Facebook groups and discuss your concerns there. Someone else would've gone through similar
Great video🙌..btw any idea about the scope of physiatry(physical medicine and rehabilitation) in the UK?
Always thankful for your videos. Very informative sir. Is it true that if one has passed mrcp part 1 along with PLAB, chance of getting job increase?
Ultimately it comes down to how well you will answer the interview questions. So mrcp prep will definitely help.
Is it possible to start applying for jobs while applying for gmc registration and waiting for their approval ?
How can I know my college will be under epic verification before I proceed to plab 1 ? I’m from india too & my med school in state of Tripura.
Sir can u do a video on usmle vs plab which one to consider
hi Dr.Abinav . I HAVE COMPLETED MY MBBS in 2016 . I like to know is it must to to do FY1 . since we have already did our internship here in India . sgould we do again in Uk after completing plab .
Hello, which website is it for verifying the documents???
Is it world directory of medical schools???
Or new list of WFME??(usmle)????
Hi there. I've always used the world directory. It was the same for USMLE and for plab. Although I would say if the med school is on either one, that's gonna be some extra work cut out for you
Thank you so much for the info! How long did it take from the start of writing your ILETS to securing your job in the NHS?
2 years. But this was COVID times so exams got cancelled and stuff. After COVID, people are doing it in 1 year. The problem is getting a job which takes a few months more
how long did it take you in the whole process? from IELTS to being accepted to a job in the UK
Thank you for this informative video… after plab2, if we plan on getting GMC registration, applying for jobs & getting the skilled worker visa while still in the UK on a standard visitor visa, do we have to mention these in the itinerary while applying for the standard visa & if not, what can we mention in the itinerary so that the immigration officers approve the visa without questioning us about what we’re going to do after PLAB2 for the remaining months..?
It's perfectly fine if you mention 2 months and stay 6 months (the limit of visitor visa). Don't write things that could jeopardize your approval. I wrote 2 months but had a change of mind and stayed 5 months to do ALS, get gmc registered, secure a job, etc.
You'll not be breaking any law.
You will however, need to go back to apply for your skilled worker visa. Applying from UK is a challenge.
@@drAbhinavKr thank you so much for your help!!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Thank you for the comprehensive video. Can you please clarify whether you flew back to India after one month of clinical attachment and then did all the job application, visa paperwork while in India?
I stayed till I got a job. But it's fine even if you go back and take the interviews since everything is online anyways and all communication is via email.
But yes in my case I got a job while I was in uk then went to India to apply visa. Uk won't let you apply from inside uk
It was really an informative video.
Thank you so much.
I'm in a confusion that whether I'm eligible for GMC registration. Because i completed my MBBS from Kazakhstan, course of 5 years without internship. Later i returned to india , cleared my FMG exam and completed my internship of 1 year from Government hospital, Belagavi.
Now I'm bit confused, whether GMC will accept my registration because med education at one place and internship at another place.
And registration and verification will be done after plab 2 i guess. What if they don't accept my documents after all my path for plab.
Same doubt ??? Help
You'll be fine.
Since you got your mbbs degree and did internship, uk won't be concerned about anything before your degree.
Is it possible that a doctor who has not qualified plab can get a job in the medical sector.
I'm living in Scotland right now..
If we have registration from two state medical council in India, do we need to get Good Standing certificate from both of them? Please reply. TIA
Yes
Getting a job these days is difficult as you mentioned Dr Abhinav. I have been applying constantly for a job with good clinical experience . However, Getting rejections. What have to be done to get shortlisted ? please guide
It's just a case of staying determined for longer. Unfortunately that's pretty much it
Great video doc. Just wanna know can we give plab 1 in uk by coming there on a visitor visa. Please do lemme know. Much respect ✊
Thanks a lot! You can def take the PLAB 1 in the UK. But you'll need to justify your reasoning more aggressively to Visa guys because PLAB 1 is held outside the UK as well, so why do you want to come to the UK for PLAB 1 alone?
You should have a convincing reason for going back home. A very strong bank balance of yourself or your sponsor will definitely help.
Well done Doctor. I’d love to host you on my channel. How can I reach out ?
Hi Shaba.
If you could send me a DM on Instagram which is linked from my about page, that'll be best. Please let me know here once you send it
Very informative & inspirational , iam very lucky that i found you vedio , but a question please !!!! roughly how long does it take to complete (OET , PLAB1 & PLAB2) till you secure a job ? i mean how how long does it take from PLAB 1 till you secure a training job in uk.
I've seen people do it in 1 year. I did mine during COVID and that took 24 months from the time I did ielts to the time I started a job
Smoothly explained doc ❤...i want to know that is it compulsory to get registered in our respective medical council here in india in order to be there coz you mentioned about that verification from delhi medical council and karnataka ....as i have graduated from china
I remember reading on Facebook chat once that it's best to get registered in your home country first. But you can discuss again on FB groups. Just search "plab 2 and gmc registration" on fb
Ok thankyou 😁
Much informative sir ,
Sir at a point u mentioned you applied for a job , then after sometime you got PLAB 2 result,
So my point is can we get a job in UK just after passing PLAB 1 only.
Thankyou for your kind words Dr. Imran. I didn't apply for the job. Rather, I applied for clinical attachment which you can get even without PLAB 1.
@@drAbhinavKr ok sir thanks, your any insta I'd for further contact please.
I got full registration almost a year ago after passing PLAB 2 but not got shortlisted even once despite applying for around 70 junior level jobs. I got ALS, BSS, close to 100 CPD points, formal teacher training, clinical attachment at the NHS, international presentation, local presentations, 5 audits/presentations at NHS, teaching at the NHS, resat/repassed OET(previous one expired), 5 years of exp after the F1 year in A&E in my home country, managerial role history, medical school prize, voluntary work and some other stuff as well. I am thinking of giving up my license and to give up on medicine as well. Do you have any advice ?
Bro is it that hard to get a job in uk ? Can you explain me
Yes it is near impossible. Sorry to disappoint you.@@varshithbethi5364
Try going the MTI route. Medical training initiative where royal College can sponsor you if you show at least 3 years of experience in a given department.
Try giving the royal college exam atleast first part
hi, i’m a second year student and will be moving to 3rd year in a month. can you please tell me what i should do to set a solid base for plab during internship year? did you refer to any counsellors to get a route on how to go about every exam. i sometimes worry that PLAB will be a relatively difficult exam to pass but how would you grade the difficulty level based on prep and testing? (i didn’t have a good experience with neet but i was very passionate about medicine)
thank you for the video, really helped a lot!!
Plab prep takes no more than 4 months. Use the resources I used and that'll be it. It's not like usmle that takes ages to prepare for.
@@drAbhinavKr thank you so much!!
How can I get a Clinical Attachment? How much does it cost?
Hi Sir,
Is there any chance to pursue Master degree in any fields related to health sector in UK after doing BHMS (Homeopathy) in india and should this student work directly or indirectly in health services in UK ??
Sorry I don't think there's any scope for non allopathy routes in the NHS.
So I don't think BHMS is a recognised bachelor's degree. Might have to do another bachelor's in UK or elsewhere first
Doctor, i want to know how fast did you got your first job after getting GMC registration? and how long did it took for you to get registration after plab 2 results?
again thanks for all these details because i’ve few months left in plab2 but i’ve booked attachment and ALS to do just after it.
My time frame was long due to COVID but nowadays people are getting done with English + both plab parts in 1 year.
For registration, it took me 1 month as I had just one hospital to get my Gen 1 form signed from and 2 state medical councils to get my good standing certificate from.
For job, start looking soon after plab 2 pass result and don't wait for gmc registration to be done. It can take a few months but it's easier to get a job when they are recruiting in bulk, ie around May-June and around Nov, Dec
Thanks a lot , and one more query, do i need to fill gen.1 form as well? i worked at 2 hospital till now and got registration at one council?
@@davidverma2588 you'll have to get gen1 from both the hospitals
Hey is post internship work experience mandatory to apply for the exam or job??
How do we earn incore training program
did you have to be in UK for GMC registration ? . What I mean is If I come back after PLAB 2 exam to India, will I be able to complete GMC registration from India and then apply for jobs online and attend interviews online and once securing a job I can go back to UK. Or Will I have to go to UK just for the purpose of GMC registration ?
You can very much do everything from India. I was in the UK but not once did I have to go anywhere physically for GMC registration. My dad did have to run around back in India to make sure the gen 1 forms get signed by the hospital I worked at. So being in India will have its advantages.
Although recently I've heard they are gonna start physical ID verification for which you need to visit the GMC building in person. It wasn't there at my time due to COVID so please have a look at that first
@@drAbhinavKr okay thank you.
@@drAbhinavKr I read about in the GMC website and found out that as we are verifiying our ID during PLAB 2 Exam, we don't have to make another visit to GMC London specifically for ID verification or registration.
@@nerviantone would actually make a lot of sense for them to do. Thanks
Hello sir,
So finally after passing the IELTS EXAM to earning salary in UK what estimated time in between your journey??
Mine was during COVID so 2 years
I did my mbbs (2016 internship year ) and md ( 2021 passing year ) in community medicine from government colleges in Delhi
After that from 2022 I joined WHO with the communicable disease department in Delhi itself and currently still working there
I want to pursue pediatrics in uk
How doable does it sound ? I understand I need to write plab for gmc as I can’t write MRCPCH due to no inpatient experience in pediatrics ? Will I need to repeat all foundation years fy1 and fy2 ?
Will the non clinical gap effect my cv ?
You can start from F2. Or even possibly prepare for the interview and apply for it with a crest form. Your CV is good enough that you could possibly secure a training in paeds. On the other hand, do F2 for a year and then get training
Thanks a lot ..get CREST signed after F2 ..and then enter S1 right ?
Nd also will doing a msc in child health help in anyway ..till the time m done with my plab and gmc ..it’s huge investment Caz
What degree do we get after completing the core training in UK??
Like we get 'MBBS' degree after completing 5.5yrs course in INDIA.
Core training is an actua training pathway and not a degree. But the equivalent of MBBS in UK is MBChB...
Don't bother about it
@@drAbhinavKr that means, after completing MBBS in INDIA....then going to UK for further training.....then after returning to INDIA after 8-9 years(after completing core training)...I will still have the MBBS degree only??
@@subhradeepray2346 No. Look up "CCT UK doctor"
Hey bro 👋🏻🤗
Is it disadvantageous to take UK route after MD Medicine in India ?
Thought about PLAB came very late to me when i have already spent 1 year post internship preparing for INI CET & NEET PG
Now i have decided to go ahead with MD Medicine
But i always want to pursue my career in UK thereafter...
Would be grateful to get your insights 😊
I would say you'd still be getting by with less earnings if you stay in India, even with PG. So I would say to try for UK.
The path is quite clearly laid out for you in the video. However if you have already joined MD, then no point as the bond will be too high. Complete the degree in india and then come.
If we do the internship in the UK do they pay you ? It would be really helpful if you can answer my question
Yes they do.
Wow! Your sarcasm😂
is there any sponser notes which a medical college in india need to have so that its student can appear for plab? because for usmle one requires ecfmg accredation of its college
Med schools need to be on world list of med schools. But they don't need ecfmg accreditation themselves. What is a sponsor note? Same as before, as long as the med school is on that world list, their students can appear for plab.
nmc is not accredited , candidates apply before 2024 will be considered for writing usmle nothing like that for plab accreditation will not cause any prob in further are you sure
Plz make a video on epic verification with fine details .
And i have a query that if we have passed all our exams and the process u told are we going to get a direct job or to we need to go through a training programme
You need to apply for interviews after getting a gmc registration. It's just like how you would apply for a junior resident job in India. Email multiple hospitals, or fill out the application online as I talked in the video, wait to hear from them and once selected for interview + you pass that, you'll have a job.
For training the requirements are very different. But PLAB is not a training recruitment exam. It's just a medical license exam.
Hai if u see this message please reply.....if i done my mbbs degree in abroad without qualify neet ug..can i apply for plab with that graduate degree certificate of my university.
Yes you can. But you ideally need to be registered with some medical council to get a good standing certificate. Ask on Facebook groups for more info
Hi doctor. Good info. I am a medical officer working in state government fir 8 years. I have completed my Plab1. For GMC registration, will I get GEN 1 certificate to be signed??
Oh yes. I'm not sure who'll sign for you. But you'll definitely need one.
@@drAbhinavKr thank you

What documents apart from degree is required for epic verification ?
You'll find out once you begin. Can't recall off the top of my head.
Everything works the same if I am Indian but i go to medical school in a different country?
If your country's mbbs is recognised by gmc to skip plab, then directly apply for gmc registration. Else do fmge in India and then prepare for plab
Hi, thank you for your video. Can a student who has passed from Private College with paying donations for his Medical degree can come to England and become a Doctor or not? Your views please.
Of course you can. I used to envy people who bought their way into medical school. But now I'm like... You do you man! Nowhere on your degree will it say you studied via donation.
I know people who couldn't get a single med school in India that they had to study in easy to enter places like Ukraine/china/Bulgaria. And now they're full fledged doctors in UK, and have gone ahead financially than those who stayed back in India.
Just take the exam. You'll be working in UK in no time
Thank you for explaining very clearly. I am living in UK for 25 years. This was my query. Have a safe practice and brilliant career ahead. Cheers!
Any 3rd year tamil students?
5-6 years after mbbs before applying for Fy1 is worth taking a shot for plab pathway ?
Sorry if I misunderstand your question as it has some grammatical errors. But if you're saying it's been 5-6 years since you did MBBS, and now you want to apply for FY1, then I'll say yes you definitely can apply. You'll probably be eligible for FY2 as well if you did an internship before.
However, just to bolster your CV for job, take up a junior resident job in your country and work a few months while studying for PLAB.
@@drAbhinavKr I can’t work in India I passed mci exam also my internship was done ! But nmc cancelled it saying I was not eligible to give exam at first place. Now the time has been wasted also can’t go back to Ukraine cos of war. That’s why this is the only platform left
