    My name is Abhinav Kumar. I am a junior doctor (means any doctor who has not yet got the full license to practice independently, aka someone who is not yet a "Consultant") working in the UK. I did med school from India and got MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore in 2020. Then I spent 2 years during COVID working on PLAB exams which are like USMLE but for the UK. I eventually got a job in the UK and now I am working full-time as a doctor, with RUclips on the side for fun and information sharing.
    Thanks.

      Please answer me , I'm really confused. Is it better to do MD in India and then appear for MRCP to move to the UK or is the PLAB pathway better? If I complete MD in India, can I enter the UK speciality training in between, like ST 3 or 4 ???

    • @drAbhinavKr
      @drAbhinavKr  10 месяцев назад

      @@Annexin5402 if you do MD first, you'll probably get a job as trust grade ST3 via the MTI pathway where your royal college sponsors you. Then once you're in UK, you can apply for ST4 interviews.
      However for this, you shouldn't have ever failed PLAB.

    Extremely elaborative and informative video Dr Abhinav! Sharing your point of view on the whole process really helped me to understand how should I go about it in the future!
    Quick question- Can we choose the city where we do our core and speciality training? Or it is based on our performance and rank? For example, if my partner and I want to be in the same city for the whole of our training, is that possible?
    Looking forward to learning more from you!

    • @drAbhinavKr
      @drAbhinavKr  Год назад +1

      Thanks sujal. Yes you can choose your deanery just like you would do for any med school in India after you pass NEET and list your preference. Ofc the higher rankers get priority in their choice.
      However some trainings could have you rotate in different hospitals within your chosen deanery (a deanery can have 3-4 hospitals, often just 1 hospital in 1 city) for up to a year at a time cuz some departments may not be able to accommodate you in a certain hospital. But all these hospitals will still be within 1-2 hrs travel distance of one another. Car is kinda essential to working in UK but most people just move to the city of training
      Or... You can do the CESR route where you stick with one hospital in an out of training program but you have to arrange your rotations yourself going back and forth with the HR to line up with training requirements

    Thank you for this informative video… after plab2, if we plan on getting GMC registration, applying for jobs & getting the skilled worker visa while still in the UK on a standard visitor visa, do we have to mention these in the itinerary while applying for the standard visa & if not, what can we mention in the itinerary so that the immigration officers approve the visa without questioning us about what we’re going to do after PLAB2 for the remaining months..?

    • @drAbhinavKr
      @drAbhinavKr  11 месяцев назад +2

      It's perfectly fine if you mention 2 months and stay 6 months (the limit of visitor visa). Don't write things that could jeopardize your approval. I wrote 2 months but had a change of mind and stayed 5 months to do ALS, get gmc registered, secure a job, etc.
      You'll not be breaking any law.
      You will however, need to go back to apply for your skilled worker visa. Applying from UK is a challenge.

    Doctor, i want to know how fast did you got your first job after getting GMC registration? and how long did it took for you to get registration after plab 2 results?
    again thanks for all these details because i’ve few months left in plab2 but i’ve booked attachment and ALS to do just after it.

      My time frame was long due to COVID but nowadays people are getting done with English + both plab parts in 1 year.
      For registration, it took me 1 month as I had just one hospital to get my Gen 1 form signed from and 2 state medical councils to get my good standing certificate from.
      For job, start looking soon after plab 2 pass result and don't wait for gmc registration to be done. It can take a few months but it's easier to get a job when they are recruiting in bulk, ie around May-June and around Nov, Dec

What I mean is If I come back after PLAB 2 exam to India, will I be able to complete GMC registration from India and then apply for jobs online and attend interviews online and once securing a job I can go back to UK. Or Will I have to go to UK just for the purpose of GMC registration ?

    • @drAbhinavKr

      You can very much do everything from India. I was in the UK but not once did I have to go anywhere physically for GMC registration. My dad did have to run around back in India to make sure the gen 1 forms get signed by the hospital I worked at. So being in India will have its advantages.
      Although recently I've heard they are gonna start physical ID verification for which you need to visit the GMC building in person. It wasn't there at my time due to COVID so please have a look at that first

    Is it disadvantageous to take UK route after MD Medicine in India ?

      I would say you'd still be getting by with less earnings if you stay in India, even with PG. So I would say to try for UK.
