      Good news, indeed! Are you gonna hook up an expression pedal as well? I would love to hear if this can do a long slow evolving filter sweep. A review of the EHX Oceans 12 would be interesting to compare and contrast this; seems a little like a poor man's NightSky.

      @@johnpowell3767 You know, I just love the quirky sound of tape echos. And the Volante' is as good as the very best of the digital ones. But the midi control sold me in the end. My Boss ES-5 switcher can tell it what to do at every patch change. Same reason I opted for the SD Silver Lake reverb to follow it up. Lucky for me, most of the really nice stuff has the midi port. I play flute and guitar through my rig, reverbs and delays have to be nice ones with headroom and midi ready. Volante can also receive line level signals in the studio or from my mic preamp for the flute. Since I got it, I have not considered replacing it at all. I've just started to scratch the surface of it's powerful features. Great machine. It will be useful to me for years to come. Hope your leg heals up good- good luck!

    I want to get one of these. You have both the Night Sky and Big Sky. I have watched almost as many videos on the two that I can stand. Most are the same. I play in church and a venue call House of Prayer in my city. Ambient, pad, reverb are now the rage in worship music. It sounds cool and really fills up a lot of space. I have an EHX Mel9 and C9 that I plan on using occasionally with the one I choose to get. Do you have a preference which one would work best with worship music and work with the Mel9 and C9? I'm doing what I can now on an Alexander Ski Fi pedal.

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  Год назад

      I would say that if you are looking for an all around workhorse reverb, then the BigSky is the way to go. It does a lot of the "traditional" reverb types in addition to some experimental. The NightSky is pure experimental, and although it is a great pedal, is not as flexible because of its tonal focus.

    @jemandthemystery 2 года назад

    Each to their own of course but I can’t help but feel once one starts to need/want this level of reverb manipulation maybe price/performance wise you are better served by plug-ins. Personally though, while there is an argument for using external reverb to take the load of DAWS/Helix/Kemper etc versions there is a diminishing rate of return when you get to this level. But hey, if you feel you can manipulate this live with synths/guitars/bass and drum machines then more power to you. Cool stuff though and you have to love this man’s unrelenting enthusiasm for his toys. :-)

      @@johnnulf624 I suspect one would need multiple plug-ins. However, if you need this live and/or like/need the tactile satisfaction of real controls then get the NightSky. It’s a good product. Didn't meant to imply it is a replacement just out of everything I've seen for demos I haven't heard anything that can't be replicated with a combination of other pedals, and that's the selling point for this one I suppose is it does a lot of things typically you need multiple pedals for. Chad Routhier Are you in the states? There are pedal rental programs so anything is possible. I use pedal genie and currently am renting a CBA Mood pedal. A lot of pedals I usually can’t afford I use this service before buying with the night sky being the one exception. I’ve been using their service for years with no complaints. Since a week after it’s release I’ve been seeing user (not demo channels) start to pop up with settings they like or ways they use it. I’m sure it will increase over time. A lot of the flack I seem to read everywhere I feel is a bit presumptive it isn’t useable for anyone. Not everyone plays blues, not everyone plays metal but there is a market that this pedal will be good for and I am one of those people. The fact I can sculpt my signal live without navigating many layers of LCD preset screens is a huge plus in making it not scary user friendly. Scary as in shit I don’t remember what I had it set to last week now I have to tinker for hours to find it again. I always found the big sky paralyzing at times where as the strymon delays I didn’t with just the knobs as very straightforward. I could go on but you get me I think, it’s much too soon to cast judgments/hate on this pedal. Is it for everyone? Maybe not but to have a lot of things in one pedal so I don’t also have 20 reverbs (all with a different modulation!) fighting for a space on my board. Granted I do have an addiction to reverb/delay this format agreed does save me board real estate also. I think Big Sky is a preset king whereas Nightsky is a make your own adventure cloud city..? Dunno if that sums it up lol the renting thing might be alittle before they get units but it’s worth a shot if you want to try before buying things.

    Honestly, the Strymon pedals are IMO perfection, but the price is just too high for me. In my economic situation it would make no sense to spend that kinda money on something I can replicate with plugins for a fraction of the price.

    • @MD_is_me
      @MD_is_me 3 года назад +1

      I think pedals are more for live performance where reliability is integral to economics. When people are paying hard earned money to be entertained interruptions due to of any kind of glitch are an economic problem. I'm coming from the position of someone who has used computers for music production since the advent of MIDI in the early 80s and has been with Cubase since it's pre-DAW days, well before Cubase 3.
      I inadvertently become directly involved with Tascam USA and Steinberg Canada in the mid 90s helping them to successfully test native laptop production using some of their products. Today's plugins and computers are great and vastly superior to anything from those early days but unless you have backups and professional techs standing by for seamless transparent transitions in real-time from one system to another when a failure occurs, using plugins live is just too risky.

      @@MD_is_me Yeah for a live situation it's a whole other thing. Stability and reliability is key when playing live. If I was gonna play live these days I'd probably get the Moog Ocean Machine as a cheaper option to get in at least the same ballpark.

      @@apanapandottir205 I have an Ocean Machine and if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have bought it. The stereo implementation is so cattywampus that it's unusable other than as a mono effect pedal and that's not why I bought it.
      It was a huge disappointment. Saving for something better designed would have been the better choice. The Ocean Machine is a dust collector now.
      The Ocean Machine did lead me to believe that, even in mono, swapping effects around is a great idea, though. As a result, I replaced it on my board with an NOS Decibel 11 Pedal Palette that I use with my own mono effects pedals; way more versatile. I stumbled upon a deal for the Pedal Palette and it cost considerably less than the Ocean Machine.

      I had a ps-2.. I found it kind of unreliable on the road. The ps-3 is incredible! However, they’re getting harder to find at a reasonable price. I’m not a huge strymon fan but this thing sounds the least “strymon.” It sounds like a boss pedal which is maybe why I like it!

Unfortunately the Nemesis never got the hype it deserved. Trust me, try it, and I promise you will keep it ;) Another epic delay is the Erica Synths ZEN Delay with the real Tube sound and TRUE STEREO processing! For example, when you run a stereo sound, with a tom on the right channel and a cymbal on the left channel, you will get a different tube saturation/distortion for the tom and the cymbal! Besides the Nemesis, the best delay out there.

    First time I'm not interested in a pedal from Strymon. It sounds great, YES. But I have the Big Sky (which sounds much better imo), I have the Specular Tempus (which is one of the best reverb/delay pedals EVER!), I have the Source Audio Ventris, I have the OTO BAM (one of a kind!), I have a PCM90, I have the Meris Mercury and many other awesome units. Nightsky is cool for ambient-only experimenting stuff. For big serious productions where you have to mix many channels it's quite useless. Trust me, it's sad but true. The Big Sky is also very hard to use and mix in a big production. So as I said, for this kind of demo videos, "guitar-only" presenting stuff and ambient trips the Nightsky is cool but that's it. This should be a modular module and not a pedal. Just my opinion.
