Hey - thank you so much for this! I've just ordered the adaptor and can't wait to try this out as I love my vive, but the rays and stuff are overkill lmao thankyou
I did this mod a couple of years ago on my OG Vive and I'm not sure why I changed back. I think I never got the barrel distortion fix working well enough so I got dizzy easier. I will give it a go again now though and see if I can maybe find a config that works for my headset. Good vid!
Hi! I know this is an old video but am at the point of changing my vive lenses to gear vr lenses myself but can I ask if (1) Does this mod increase or reduce the fov ? (as the gear lenses are smaller in diameter than the original vive lenses) . Fov is a big thing for me as it effects immersion in the game . Also (2) does it help with the screen door effect ie the fuzziness ? Thanks in advance
Your comment is a month old but I'll give answering a go. 1. No reduction in FOV. In fact its technically better FOV since you dont get that blur at the edges of the screens like the stock lenses have. 2. This really doesnt change anything about the screen door effect since thats simply down to resolution.
Question: The 3D lens adapter should I print the V3.3? Since I noticed there's other files in the folder as well which got me confused. Is the GearVR model SM-R323?
Are the adapters you're selling on ebay the latest version? I'd like to purchase a set but i want to be sure i don't get some old stock. Also, would shipping to poland be possible?
You lost me at the BARREL DISTORTION FIX. I'm worried about ruining something that's not necessarily broken. Sound like a lot of work. I just notice that text blurs when it's further away in my Vive... along with the coke bottle lenses and god rays. The screen door effect is still there though, right?
A question, when open up the console. I always get LHR-622D3AC8: Expected 3487 bytes of config but only found 2480. Rejecting config. And when it load up, I get. 1h> LHR-622D3AC8: Packet received after 5.000s, keepalive (0/5) And it can't be backup. But I somehow manage to make it find the headset and made a backup. But I notice when I open up console, the headset is loosing connection with SteamVR. And when I close console it appear again. Not sure why this is happening.
@@rodrigomartinelli741 unfortunately not yet. I still get same error when I open console.exe, and when I don't get error the uploadconfig is getting a weird writing. So I am not sure if it's even wrote or not. All I know is when I do uploadconfig, I see screen (inside VR) is shaking and stop.
@@rodrigomartinelli741 Yes no issue when using the headset. So I am not sure what the problem is. I have been playing hours without any dropping connection or any issue.
As of 2 days ago i have a free gear vr, been really looking into this mod fot my htc vive. Think I'm gonna order the adapter. Any reaaon i shouldnt mod?
@ratcat it worked for me, but I believe the guy I bought the adapters from had modified them a little to compensate for distortion. So it worked great. In all honesty though, if u are able to get like a Samsung odyssey plus, it's very cheap used, worth it 100%. I'm on the index now, and looking forward to the reverb g2. I got my odyssey plus for $90. Best vr for the money
Awe man, I only have the white one and I can't use it anymore since Samsung phones have stopped using that kind of charging plug... If I can't use it to improve my Vive, I guess it's just useless now...
Yeah, the reason i'm asking is i'm using the 6mm vrcover and the lens adapters, the sharpness is amazing, but, i can see the panel edges no matter my ipd setting (mine ipd is 63 btw). I was only able to fix this by using the eye relief mechanism, but when doing so, the fov ends up worse then on the cv1, any ideas how could i fix that without throwing all my fov out the window? Thanks in advance.
@@gutchynsky I know what you mean, I could see the panel edges too. I don't have a solution on that, I accepted it was a quirk of the mod and worth it for improved sharpness.
I wonder if it would be possible to develop a slimmer, closer to the screen version of the adapter, that would certainly fix the problem we're talking about.
@@SimRacingCorner on my current adaptors they were also printed pla but it kind of flakes in sort of a way and leaves particles on the screen sometimes, have you had this issue aswell? if not im considering buying a lens adaptor kit from your ebay if you still sell them
@@happytrix6167 I've never had that problem. I print other things in PLA as well for myself and can't say flaking has ever been a thing with this material. So I'm assuming you didn't print them yourself and bought them? Different brands of filament can vary in quality, so that's possible. Maybe the particles are actually the rubber seal fragments that were used to hold the original lenses in and not from the adaptors. If you take one of your lenses out, you can feel that some of that rubber is still lining the sockets. It's hard to see as it's black.
@@SimRacingCorner Oh okay, yea i got someone else to print it and ship it to me, and im sure that it is the adapter after cleaning the screen then putting the old lenses back on

FOV is restricted by the size of the displays, not the lenses. Lenses can't change the SDE, pixels are pixels. The Gear VR lenses removes the blur across the image. It's cleaner, sharper image.
@@SimRacingCorner Appreciate the reply ! It’s good to know that the sde is reduced more . Fov is the amount of the peripheral environment you can see when just are looking straight ahead without having to move your head - it’s when u can see things with the corner of your eye so to speak- when looking inside a vr headset it’s limited by 2 things 1. The screen size abd shape and 2. The lens size and lens distortion - it’s the amount or lack of blackness you experience top and bottom and to each side of your eyes when your looking straight into experience without moving your head - no matter how big the screen if the lenses are small your still going to be limited ie you still won’t be able to see the potential 210’ degrees humans normally perceive . With the gear headset it’s bad as you feel your looking through binoculars but with the pimax it’s non or almost non existent due to not just the massive screen but the massive lenses as well. So what am asking is with the gear lens mod are you more limited in what you can see ? - the vive has a pretty good fov normally especially as I use the reduced face strap so I don’t really want to compromise if using these lenses reduces this ? Cheers

Yeah, once you've dialed in the correct barrel distortion fix the image looks completely normal. It's definitely worth giving it another go.

Question:
The 3D lens adapter should I print the V3.3? Since I noticed there's other files in the folder as well which got me confused.
Is the GearVR model SM-R323?
I'm using the 3.3 model here, there is now a 4.0 version. I'd use that one instead. Lenses are from the SM-R323.
@@SimRacingCorner Oh my I just came back home with 3.3 before seeing this reply. But 4.0 supposedly is more for Vive pro one right?
@@Michaellee608 4.0 is suitable for both, Pro and non-pro. So is 3.3. 4.0 is just a more refined design. But both work just fine.

They are the v3.3 not v4.0. As the v3.3 design is universal for both the pro and non-pro Vive. I do ship to Poland.

The reason many people go through the effort is it's a big improvement over the stock lenses. It's as simple as that. There's no difference to SDE.
