Thanks for this, some really useful information.
I was brain dumping at 3am today but I didn’t know that’s what it was called 🤣, I just thought I couldn’t sleep coz my brain was in overdrive. So everything is now on one sheet of paper, and I’ve listed your questions and ideas about life priorities so I can PLAN for probably the first time in my life (I’m 59!).
    Thankyou!

This is the first video of yours that I have watched, and I just want to say I LOVE the way you're talking about this: How we all have different seasons of life and our goals and abilities vary etc. I have a talent for beating myself up whenever I don't do something "perfectly" so of course when I sit down to start my 2020 journal, and I have no idea what I want my focus for the year to be, I hit this huge mental wall. So I run to RUclips lol. And all these videos I'm looking through seem to miss the mark...but after watching this I can like give myself permission to process things and have goals that maybe aren't the usual "work out more" or "lose weight" etc etc. This is what I needed to hear in my current season.
Thank you. Love the energy. Love the chattiness.

I agree that if handwriting is an accessible skill to you, it has a power that typing on a screen does not. Getting the thoughts out of your hands, and also seeing them in your unique handwriting reminds your brain, "hey, that's me. I did in act write that. And how much did I mean it?" Because there's the psychological study of graphology, that reveals patterns about our personalities in how our hands write out our thoughts.

Liked and subscribed!! I never bother with 30- minute videos, but this one called me. It took 3 sittings, and it was worth it. I love seeing how there is a distinction between day plans and goal plans. I always use a notebook for breaking down projects, but I've never found anything to help me create and break down goals. Your video is a game changer for me. My husband is dying of cancer, and my life is a mess. Goals have been impossible to think about, and yet I can't help feeling that's exactly what I need to do. Thank you for this💖

Rose V. I am so sorry about the cancer I am dealing with that for a loved one times three. But I think we do need to practice a little self care on ourselves because when cancer battle is won or lost we won’t be left completely drained. I have spent hours on studying diet for the fight against cancer. So I care give and research and care give then work and try to see family members who do not live it day to day it can be a lot.

Thanks for the inspiration,I used to do this every year when I was single. The last three years have been a blur, three years ago was mine and my husband's first Christmas together, the next year I had 1.5 month old twins and my health was sketchy, and last year I got whammed with late onset post postpartum depression. Finally this year seems like things are settling and I can get back into doing this. I'm going to go do a brain dump right now.

Have you ever looked at or tried out Desire Mapping (Danielle La Porte). It's essentially mapping how you feel about different aspects of your life vs how you want to feel so that when you create a goal it is a goal you will feel rewarded by when you get there - not just an arbitrary goal society suggests you should have if you're after a specific thing. I love working through this process once a year. She does day timers too so you can check in with the things you want to feel every day so you always feel like you're getting closer to your goal.

New Subbie here. It’s been YEARS since I’ve done a brain dump. I know I need to, I feel it. But I keep running and I’m so overloaded I’m not accomplishing much. So I’ve neededthis. I’m disabled and in a very different season of life. Ten years now... your delivery of this and channel set up and.... I don’t know, but I’ve ignored all these type of vids but stopped here. THANK YOU! I’m determined and so let’s do it! 💖👍🏻🤗

Oh my word... I've been putting off watching this because I didn't want to get excited and then of course fail AGAIN. Anyway, thank you. I enjoyed and am excited to start my own brain dump and categorizing and identifying life goals. Also thank you for the free resources, because I've always wanted to try the power sheets, just couldn't justify the cost for something that I didn't know I'd really use. I'm so happy this was a suggested video for me, I'm going to share this video with my 12yr old daughter who struggles with severe anxiety and PTSD. I think these concepts will help her identify triggers and correct coping strategies. You are a blessing. Definitely a subbie for life. 🧡

The only time I'd recommend typing is when your brain goes faster than your hand. Sometimes as you are brain dumping, your thoughts can turn from a snowball to an avalanche that is just too much to keep up with. And don't worry if you are too slow at writing and typing. The more you brain dump the less frequent your thoughts will be and the easier it is to keep track of them. The best way to deal with it now is to write down what you can, when it becomes stressful take a break and do it again when you've calmed. Keep at it, because fuck fast thoughts, you are going to do this! (Hope this helped)

I like that you have a few different formats (books) to help your planning exercise. Thank you for showing the variety and for reinforcing that writing (hand to paper) is important to imprinting and that we never “arrive”. Level 10 is a myth (a bill of goods that we have be sold by so-called gurus) similar to “work/life balance”. Your explanation was helpful in exploring my own beliefs in this concept.

    • @franny1564
      @franny1564 4 года назад

I don't mean this in an offensive way at all I just think it's interesting how different people interpret things differently. I totally agree that you can't be at level 10 in every category of your life for the rest of your life but I also never thought of level 10 as a destination where I have to arrive and then stay at. For me it's more (like Elyssa herself said) an evaluation of how well I'm doing at something *at this particular moment. So e.g. physical health: If I am eating well, if I'm feeling great about my body, if I'm doing the amount of exercise I'm able to do *at this time in life and if I'm happy with where I'm at right now and doing the best I'm able to do right now then for me this counts as a level 10 in that stage of life. This does not mean that some months down the road I'm still at that level. Maybe I get sick and have to recover, maybe I'm having a baby or a new job or a family obligation and simply don't have time or the mental capacity to work out, eat well and especially feel good then maybe I drop down to a level 3 or whatever. But this again gives an indication that this area is one to work at as soon as I'm able to do so. For me it's an ebb and flow and not a destination and I do really think that sometimes we just have to say to ourselves "I'm doing great in this area right now and I'm gonna give myself a 10" and not always think "well I can't give myself a 10 because there always is something someone else might be able to do in this situation which I'm not doing". Or I'm rocking at my job, am earning the money I want, am seeing purpose in and am super happy with the work I'm doing and the team I'm doing it with - then that's a level 10 for me. Maybe try to see it more like a grade - just because you got an A+ in this test doesn't mean you will in the next if you stop studying ;)
Sorry this is a very long explanation but I think it's so interesting to hear your interpretation of this because I myself would never have thought of it that way! :D

This was very insightful and helpful! Reflection always brings about revelation(s); therefore, evaluating where you are will lead to where you want to be if we are willing to do the work to get there. I'm a perfectionist, free bird 😆 my perfectionist side needs structure in getting things accomplished, but as a free bird I had no idea how to get it done. I have never watched any of your videos before so this was new to me. Very insightful and very interesting. I'm a goal oriented person but sometimes bigger goals get muddled up with little goals and vice versa for me. Thank you for some wonderful ideas on how to better structure them for the new year.😊

Thank you for sharing your process, i found it so helpful! A suggestion for sending greeting cards - Michael’s occasionally has boxed sets of cards on sale for $5, so does hobby lobby, but I find Michael’s are cuter! Have a envelope addressing day, buy the stamps ahead of time, and maybe even write out the cards ahead of time. 🤗

Would you mind sharing info on your dot grid notebook please? I'd be interested in purchasing a few. In my experience it's almost impossible to find a decent quality inexpensive dot grid notebook & it happens to be my preferred median to write on. I currently use the INKWELL Press dot grid notebook. It has wonderful quality paper but it's also on the pricer side & has a very limited amount of pages. I use my dotard notebook for mind mapping & brain dumps mostly. I be fair, I tend to brain dump monthly & mind map quarterly (bc I do quarterly goals) resulting in my notebooks filling up at a rapid pace. Thanks.
I just found your channel & I'm REALLY enjoying this mini series. I find how people choose to invest their time & intentionally plan for their futures fascinating. Good ideas come from an open mind & exposing oneself to a variety of options. My thanks for being brave enough to share yours =)

I got the dot grid from Walmart 😁
