Seiko needs to drop the limited edition and make this a permanent model in their catalogue. It is a beloved piece, and it competes with Swiss divers. How many 'limited edition' 62MAS watches are they going to come out with? Seems like every other year one gets released.
But it works, Omega Speedmasters, Seamasters, Blancpain 50 Fathoms, Breitling Navitimers, AP Royal Oaks…it’s all the same. Tons of remakes, reinterpretations, reissues…so as a profit generating company which main purpose is to, as taboo as that may sound make money then I don’t think they are in a wrong path tbh.

Great review of this watch. Really tempted on this one, but I already have the sla043. Kind of think a smaller black dial version. We will see. I have no problem with the 6L movement. It is a high quality one that came from Seiko Credor. I have a sje073. Really special Seiko presage. Should be tagged as a GS . It runs at plus 2 a day. My sla 043, 039 both have 19mm width. Plenty of choices if you look. The 043 is on a stapco ladder bracelet. Perfect for me. Matches the brushed ever brilliant steel well. Vintage look. The sla039 is on a dassari rubber strap. Bright orange! Matches the attitude of the watch. They both look good on my dark blue sail cloth band. More refined look. Thanks again for the review.
If you’re debating on the BB54 or the SJE093, then the Seiko isn’t for you. Get the BB54 and be happy. This one isn’t for the person that’s debating, this is for the person that has to have it.
Love this watch. Easily take this over the BB54. Waiting for Seiko to give this 6L37 treatment to the 6159 (MarineMaster is based off of), Slim Willard, and Willard with the date at 3 and the lil lume plot.
I can’t have both the BB54 and SJE so I had to pick one and I chose the Seiko. Everything you listed i.e. bracelet etc were my thoughts but as a Seiko fan, there are only 1,965 pieces and unlimited BB54. Plus the prices seem to be appreciating so that’s also nice.

I agree there will probably be more variations as they have been doing but unless they reissue this exact watch (or different size) how can you make the 62mas more 62mas haha. This so far has been so most faithful to the original.
I recently purchased the Tudor BB54, Pelagos39 and now the 093 they all very nice, but prices are climbing so the more you wait it will be gone and talking about the 093. Thanks for watching! I have a pamphlet that Seiko provided our store that shows the SJE093 and says “Material: Stainless Steel with Super Hard Coating” Don’t know if it’s Diashield
Good looking watch, great proportions. But when dozens of brands propose COSC certified regulation for less than USD 2,000, it's very hard to justify the price of that one, irrespective of how Seiko internally grades its movements. Admittedly, this was way worse with the 8L35 based reeditions sold considerably higher, but two wrongs don't make a right.
You sure the indices are applied? I saw they were actually stamped as a one piece dial. Not to cut cost because applied indices appear on much cheaper models but it’s Seiko’s way to eliminate failure points in their designs. Which probably cost even more to do tbh.
I own this piece and yes the is entirely stamped using high pressure die, for this reason the Seiko logo is printed to eliminate weak points on a sport watch.
Fair enough. I see them as natural competitors based on dial and colour. I'm torn. I think the Seiko is a bit more of a strap monster though?@@MinuteMon
I've had now a couple of Tudors (new Ranger and Pelagos 39) and now have an SLA043 Seiko. To be honest, Tudors have questionable quality control, and many of the dials are pretty sterile looking and meh. More tool-ish I get it, but the Seiko is a much better looking watch. Quality seems to be very good as well. One of their biggest issues is that they offer watches at so many price points it is hard for people to take them seriously in the $3-6k range. That, and the fact that they can't get the bezels aligned right and they don't regulate the movement. But I'd take the Seiko over either of the Tudors I've had. And to be fair, I would take my Omega SMP Nekton as a dive watch over any of them by a decent margin. BUT I really like the Seiko, and would absolutely consider the SJE for it's traditional size / slimmer case.
Hey could you do a review on Carl F Bucherer heritage bicompax in black? Since Rolex bought bucherer wonder if their watches are going up down or generating more interest. Thank you.
I just want to point out facts in that the 6L37 is not equal to 8L35-55, 8L uses MEMS. Technology in the escarpment which is a big deal and covers two important aspects which are a lighter but stronger alloy and second the finish and polishing of the teeth on the escape wheel are among the tightest tolerances in the industry. In addition the plates and bridges are thick with internal cut outs to improve shock and prevent shifting of gears, wheel, levers etc. Let's not forget VPH as well. Please look up Guardian of the deep by Seiko which explains in detail about the 8L robustness. Yes the 6L37 had a few changes over the 6L35 for sport activities but no MEMS Technology in the escarpment and anchor and the grade of Spron alloy in the mainspring barrel etc. I own several SLA037, 43, 39, two SJE093 on different straps and I tell ya they different calibers. I Love both calibers especially the 6L37 compact thin design but it ain't making it into a 7-8K diver for a reason. Cheers.
Seiko should reorganize themselves and make the branding and pricing easier for the consumers 1) all watches below 1k dollars are Seiko 2) all watches above 1k but below 3k should be in King Seiko category 3) all watches above 3k dollars should be in Grand Seiko category All watches that are reissued as limited editions and anniversary should rather be made as a Grand Seiko tribute, that way the pricing is justified, like the king Seiko SJE095 which looks amazing For 3500 dollars i'd rather have a Longines Master Collection moonphase chronograph OR a Seiko Turtle Padi and 3 Casios (F91W World Timer Calculator) plus spare change
People complain about the lack of variety and now too much variety. If there’s something you like, buy it, if you don’t, then pick something else. Get over yourself 🙄
So,.is this still the only seiko you have?? 😂 Or did you break and get something else? Thanks for the vid, i think ill try to find one. Im late to the game
Quite a few years ago, unfortunately. When the SLA017 came out a few years ago at > USD 4,000, one could still get a Marine Master 300 at about USD 2,500 with the exact same unfinished / unregulated 8L movement. They are milking the great 62MAS design for all its worth.
Ludicrous price. That's $4700CAD here in Canada! That's entry level Grand Seiko money. That's Longines & Tudor money. I love Seiko (own 8 of them), but I'll never pay more than $500 for one. And if I do it better be a Grand Seiko.
@MinuteMon I just think they could use a stripped down GS movement, it doesn't need to have GS anywhere on it tbh. It's strange how you get the spring drive movements in seiko Watches. They have skewed their boundaries in some funny ways lately.
Seiko needs to drop the limited edition and make this a permanent model in their catalogue. It is a beloved piece, and it competes with Swiss divers. How many 'limited edition' 62MAS watches are they going to come out with? Seems like every other year one gets released.

Not gonna lie this watch has some history but you could go big with a Tudor or a cheap Omega with that kind of price tag.
It’s the imperfections … no bracelet, 19mm lugs, price, etc, … that attract me to the watch.
Do you think they will ever make a No Date version?
I don’t foresee a no date version anytime soon since each recreation / re-interpretation has a date window, but we can dream!

how does the width of the bezel on the SPB143 compare to this watch

The surface of the date window is polished like the indices, while its bevels have a sandblasted finish.

Admittedly, this was way worse with the 8L35 based reeditions sold considerably higher, but two wrongs don't make a right.
I don't think it's actually possible for a non Swiss brand to be COSC tested. Idk though
This one or the Longines Hydroconquest 39mm??!
This one 😉
Is that tropic 19mm? Where you get that from?
Yes, a light grey tropic strap from The Tropic Strap company
@@MinuteMon only 20 & 22mm on the tropic site. 🤷♂️
Yes, forgot to mention it's 20 mm, but I was able to squeeze it into the 19 mm lug width
handsome watch
The aligned bezels watches will be a collector’s item as 90% are misaligned
You sure the indices are applied? I saw they were actually stamped as a one piece dial. Not to cut cost because applied indices appear on much cheaper models but it’s Seiko’s way to eliminate failure points in their designs. Which probably cost even more to do tbh.
Correct
I own this piece and yes the is entirely stamped using high pressure die, for this reason the Seiko logo is printed to eliminate weak points on a sport watch.
Is it 3, 4, or 5 hz balance?
9:56 he is not here to tell you buy or not buy a watch unlike the watchCrunch guy.
Yeah, let's crucify the watchcrunch guy. How dare he recommend anything. You snowflakes might be offended.
BB925 or this?! Which is your top pick??
I'm still in honeymoon with my SJE093 so I am extremely biased towards it right now.
Ask me in a few months lol
Fair enough. I see them as natural competitors based on dial and colour. I'm torn. I think the Seiko is a bit more of a strap monster though?@@MinuteMon
Any chance of reviewing the Zenith PILOT Big Date Flyback? The new ceramic one.
Thank you.
i know its old but about your video about watch irritation what do you think about white gold?
Cheers.
Seiko should reorganize themselves and make the branding and pricing easier for the consumers
1) all watches below 1k dollars are Seiko
2) all watches above 1k but below 3k should be in King Seiko category
3) all watches above 3k dollars should be in Grand Seiko category
All watches that are reissued as limited editions and anniversary should rather be made as a Grand Seiko tribute, that way the pricing is justified, like the king Seiko SJE095 which looks amazing
For 3500 dollars i'd rather have a Longines Master Collection moonphase chronograph OR a Seiko Turtle Padi and 3 Casios (F91W World Timer Calculator) plus spare change
Which spring bar do you used for the Tropic? I try to use the one from this watch and it way too big.
I may have missed it, but how does the date changeover? Typical Seiko or does it switch at midnight on the nose?
This one is instanteous date change, more or less at midnight
Nice, thanks! As someone with a 7.25' wrist, this is the best 62MAS recreation bar none imho@@MinuteMon
This over any tudor anyday. Get the one that looks better to you. Looks is the single most important thing
Great Video. Just got mine may I know the brand of your strap and where you got them?
The light grey strap is from The Tropic Strap company
The pip not lining up for thousands of dollars is crazy
It lines up fine what are you talking about
While it looks like a dream, I wouldn't pay over 2k for a 6L37
Why do you think enthusiasts are interested in your budget constraints?
No one cares lol
@@ChromeMan04 👍
Have you checked out the SLA055? That watch was for me, what this one was for you.
Seiko is actually the best watch brand in the world because they have all prices and tons of styles.
People complain about the lack of variety and now too much variety. If there’s something you like, buy it, if you don’t, then pick something else. Get over yourself 🙄
How I wished the GS will have a same design as this….
I wish this watch came in a year early.
And I’m thinking I’m crazy for saving up for a new Alpinist.
Does it leave crown marks on your wrist/arm? Looks like that crown sits way close to the skin.
I don't have any issue with the crown digging into my wrist, I usually wear it snug with a little looseness
I only ask because my speedtimer has a similar looking crown size and position wise. As in towards the base of the watch. My speedtimer leaves marks.
So,.is this still the only seiko you have?? 😂 Or did you break and get something else?
Thanks for the vid, i think ill try to find one. Im late to the game
way better than what Tudor have to offer
It's a cool looking watch but when did Seiko loose their mind on their retails?
Quite a few years ago, unfortunately. When the SLA017 came out a few years ago at > USD 4,000, one could still get a Marine Master 300 at about USD 2,500 with the exact same unfinished / unregulated 8L movement. They are milking the great 62MAS design for all its worth.
Ludicrous price. That's $4700CAD here in Canada! That's entry level Grand Seiko money. That's Longines & Tudor money. I love Seiko (own 8 of them), but I'll never pay more than $500 for one. And if I do it better be a Grand Seiko.
If there heading into 3.5k territory, maybe these LE should be handled by GS.
Too bad GS doesn’t have a diver like this though, then that would make sense for GS to handle it
@MinuteMon I just think they could use a stripped down GS movement, it doesn't need to have GS anywhere on it tbh. It's strange how you get the spring drive movements in seiko Watches. They have skewed their boundaries in some funny ways lately.
With that price i could get a better Swiss watch. Still loves Seiko but not the price i'm gonna pay for a normal Seiko(Grand Seiko are exceptional)
Ill get a BB54 for that money.
