And for those who like annotations :
Written by John Perry Barlow in Cora, Wyoming (January 1972). Looks Like Rain was first performed live on March 21, 1972 (Academy of Music, NYC) and played 413 times over the following 23 years (except in 1974 ! and understandably 1975).
From 1972 to 1985, the song was played essentially in the latter half of the 1st set and, by 1987, it found a new spot in the 2nd set.
In sum, a classic love song with probably the line "written in the letters of your name" being the most enigmatic.
Personally, I always loved this song and remember an exquisite rendition at a general admission show in Seattle, 8-14-1981, where I danced my little heart out.
Most of the song's electricity comes from the ad-libbing that Bobby brought at the end of the song ...
    Enjoy !
PS : 2 or 3 micro-bugs towards the end ... oh well, never "just exactly perfect".

So much better when Donna doesn't stomp on it. He's right in tune and clear as a bell and she almost never was. She always made me cringe and fight shutting it off. Bob's on his A game here; one of his best. All in all, I'd give this performance an A.
This collage video, however, I'd give an A+++!!!
Definitely going to look deeper into this channel.

at the 72 academy shows jerry played pedal steel and it was so new and unexpected while they were bathed in blue light and the audience sat and listened so intently...it was so hushed and reverent....'run me around make me hurt again and again'.....

Was at that Seattle show in '81. Ship of Fools was the highlight for me that night. Great show, overall, though!

Fablous montage! It must have taken some time to put this together where the words line up with the different concert footage. Thanks for the hard work and upload! 💚💜❤💙

First time I saw this I was confused. The singer changes his appearance within seconds? How can it be? Was it because my brain was stoned and tired? Because I didn't read the sublines? Or was it because of the perfect cut of picture and sound? Great work! Thank you for this.

Loloyodel, you have listed as one of the shows listed, 7-26-87-Oakland Stadium. Sorry, but that's impossible. On 7-26-87, the Grateful Dead were at Anaheim Stadium with Bob Dylan. I know, I was there! Lol Also, the giveaway is Bob's Madonna tshirt. Plus, 7-26 is Mick Jagger's birthday so I remember it for that also.
But yeah, I'm sure, just an oversight on your part, as you always do such stellar work.
Regardless it's a great video of an exquisite song. Truly Bobby bringing a love song that everyone agrees is simply beautiful.
    Thank you.
    Oh, yeh, you're welcome. Lol

Yeh, it's absolutely from Anaheim. Its listed here as 7-26-87-Oakland Stadium. That's impossible. Because 7-26-87, they were at Anaheim Stadium with Bob Dylan doing the last show of that incredible double bill. I was there! And he had the Madonna shirt on and his short shorts..lol

So this was written by Barlow and not Weir? I always thought this was based on a relationship gone south on Weirs behalf buy I guess not then?

    • @jeffellis21
      @jeffellis21 3 года назад

Weir wrote his own lyrics for two songs, if I have that correct. For all but the last few years, Weir's GD lyrics were written by the brilliant John Perry Barlow.
