I love Jeremy Jordan, and I go nuts for big choreographed dance numbers. So to say I'm excited is quite the understatement. My high school did a production of this right before quarantine! I was Pulitzer's secretary Hannah, and it was so much fun!

I was thinking about your comment of Jack being selfish... but he only agrees to do it after he has been told that his friends will be the ones that end up losing their families and going to the refuge.. at least that is how I understand it... Pulitzer even says it, pointing out that he may be a tough guy but his friends David and his brother are not...

The story of the newsies, both theatrically and historically is really inspiring.
It's based off the 1899 news boy strike led by Kid Blink and David Simmons. It was no the first or last strike of the newsies but it had the most impact. A bunch of kids aged 6 to 18 managed shut down the Brooklyn bridge by forming human chains as well as running a number of rallies.
Jack Kelly was not a historically recorded figure in relation to the strike but many of Jacks struggles are the same ones Kid blink faced. Both Kid Blink and David Simmons were believed to have betrayed the strike in exchange for money, however, this can't be a hundred percent proven as there is a possibility that it was a rumour, set to break apart the strike action.
It was fairly dangerous for the children to be striking. Kid Blink reportedly had a gun shoved into his mouth as a threat to stop the strike. The children were also very poor, living in lodging houses or the street, as a lot of them were orphans, often forced to eat their own papers just to feel something in their stomachs.
Not only that but there was a lot of brutality both from the police and between some adult newsies hired to keep selling. It was only later under the direction of David Simmons that the newsies strikes became less violent and thus gained the sympathy of the general public. Kid Blink famously saying that "Dis is de time when we’se got to stick together like glue."
If you aren't bored of this history essay already I'll just say that Crutchie is based off a real person "Crutch Morris" who took part in the historical strike. There a lot of other odd names too like, Racetrack Higgins the leader of the Brooklyn newsies and debatable the same person as "Spot Conlon" who is also mentioned in the musical. Kid Blink was also known as Blind Diamond, Red Blink and Muggsy McGee on account of his eye patch and his red hair.
Anyway I'll get back to my homework and here's a couple of commas because I just know I missed some.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Davey is played by Ben Fankhauser!! He’s amazing, his nickname with fans/the cast is Benoncé because his riffing skills are superb!

So I’m a complete nerd about Newsies, so here’s some of the stuff you wanted to know. Christopher Gatelli is the choreographer, and as a dancer myself, I look up to him so much! They definitely earned the best choreography Tony! It is slightly based off the newsboys strike of 1899, with a Disney twist because in real life, the newsies did not win against Pulitzer, like at all. This movie is not a revival, but like an all star cast. The director chose certain people from the tour and others from original broadway, so the cast is amazing!

They did actually come to the agreement thats in the end of the play. I have read about it. They agreed to not do anything with the price but that the sellers of the papers bought them back for the full price

My community theater just finished casting Newsies that we’re going to perform and i’m going to be Henry, one of the side Newsies along with Romeo, Finch, etc. (Henry’s the one with the towel slung over his shoulder at the beginning) It’s such an amazing, fun show. It’s probably my favorite show right now (totally no bias).

i cant believe you didnt include michael dameski's iconic spin in seize the day!! /lh || no but ive always loved the choreography in this show, it highlights even the smallest of roles. honestly, my favorite part of the musical has always been that every newsie has a personality and a character, even if you only see it in slight interactions onstage

I just recently did Newsies Jr. (I played Jack) but it was kind of insane how much was cut from the Jr version. They removed the second half of Santa Fe, multiple comedic lines and both of Pulentiziers songs. I guess they had to get it down to an hour long, but it was pretty disappointing thinking about what we could've done.

Would you ever consider releasing on RUclips a shortened version of your reactions to the other shows you mentioned? I’m only asking because a lot of other reaction channels do this, but don’t feel pressured.
