A lot of people missed this subtle detail, David Fincher opens the film with a cold, eerie shot of a Amy where she's giving Nick a vulnerable, doe eyed look. it's clear she lacked control and confidence.. but, he ends it with a warm shot where Amy is transformed. she is now in control, her eyes exude confidence and more importantly, dominance. that smirk on her face gave me chills. she knows she's got everything she wanted out of Nick. Amy Dunne is one of the best written villain/antagonist I've ever seen in tv. At first glance, she's charming, clever, beautiful woman who knows exactly what she wants. but later on, the movie reveals more layers to help us understand her nature and her motives. ever since she was a child, her parents introduced amazing Amy, a parallel perfect version of her that excels at everything she fails at, and lacks any flaws she has. that, is the fuel for her psychopathic side because she had to conform to meet the standard of her perfect counterpart ALL HER LIFE. she also had to conform to Nick's "cool girl" narrative only for him to disregard all her effort and cheat. so, she swore revenge, she wanted Nick to fulfill her standards of what a perfect husband is. after all, it's the only thing she expected of him. her sheer determination and focus to execute her plan are astounding. not only is she a perfectionist, but she's a mastermind in strategic planning. she's willing to take any measures to ensure her needs are met. nothing is too crazy or too much, she would frame anyone, kill anyone, even HERSELF because that's how committed she is to her believes. and THAT is why I admire her sadistic nature.
I would add, that her being willing to kill herself isnt really about getting her needs met, but about how completely incapable her psyche is to deal with whats happening to her in any different way. Shes driven to the point of wanting to die. Shes suicidal. But decides to punish Nick while shes at it. I think in part because she cant handle the fact how far off she went from Amazing Amys life, losing their money, being taken to a town where she has no one and doesnt fit in, leaving her job, and her husband slowly showing his ugly true colors. Not to mention if she wants to have children, shes probably screwed. Shes in her early 30s and has been with Nick for like 7 years and was already struggling conceiving and going to a fertility clinic and her husband having an affair with a very young girl. Shes essentially severely depressed and its fascinating to see what her sadistic vengeful nature twists that into. Tho I think what kind of gets "lost" in the movie compared to the books is that it isnt just Amy wanting Nick to be the perfect husband. Nick has his own thing, where he wants to be liked, seen as the good guy by everyone and kind of morphs and lies to maintain that image. Amy essentially isnt wrong when she says both of them were playing a role, she was pretending to be the cool girl and he was pretending to be a good husband, he just "didnt keep his end of the deal", because the main difference is Nicks behavior is far more impulsive and badly thought out, while Amy makes stategic choices, so Amy makes this trade conciously, Nick doesnt. Eventually Nick stops trying to play the role and resents her for expecting what he convinced her he is.
@@BambiLena666 yeah there's definitely more to it than her just wanting her needs fulfilled. she went through some really rough patches in her marriage, i would even say hit rock bottom. every single thing that she wanted to happen.... didn't, if anything it all went down hill slowly but surely. all her dreams of being a perfect wife/mother. her broken psyche is what sparked this villainous fire within her that would consume not only her but everyone around her. and i haven't read the book but from what i've heard, it's way deeper/richer than the movie but pretty different in a lot of ways. nothing beats original source materials imo.
Sadly, it's not Desi's baby: Amy found a way to get ahold of Nick's frozen sperm donation before it was destroyed. She saved it and then used it to get pregnant when the time was right to trap him.

He said many of his characters represent people in his journey and at first he just want the seats in the theatre 🎭 filled to see his plays and watch the stories.
The first time I watched the movie was when it was in theaters. I watched the trailer and was like nah, just a thriller and then saw 'directed by David Fincher', so I went to the cinema and had my head blown away. I found a copy of the book online and spent the whole night reading it. Then watched the movie again. The author, Gillian Flynn became one of my favourite writers immediately. I know the 'cool girl' monologue by heart. I would recommend checking out series called Sharp Objects starring Amy Adams. The script is also adapted after another of her book and has the same eerie, Midwestern, mystery feeling with a deadly twist.
Fantastic reaction! Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (of Nine Inch Nails) scored the movie, along with Fincher's "The Social Network", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", and "Mank. David Ficher directed Nine Inch Nails' music video for their song "Only" which is a trip and worth checking out.

This movie proves Tyler Perry (the lawyer character) can actually act, despite all of the ridiculous Madea movies he's known for. But, they've made him a lot of money, so good for him I guess. 🤷♀️
Have you actually sat and watched any of those “ridiculous” movies? He plays MULTIPLE characters, a lot of times in the same scenes, and they deal with real issues- like Drugs, Poverty, Death, Divorce, Coming Out, and all around acceptance in society. They are films that are not only funny, but teach REAL lessons every time. I am a 33 year old white man who can stand here today and openly say Tyler Perry can act, write and produce on the same level as Spielberg. He teaches lessons just as well as Viola Davis.
