They don’t even look like Mini’s anymore, I don’t hate how it looks but I don’t think jt screams Mini with the different shaped head lights and taillights. I do love the interior though.
You’re the only one who has explained correctly why the heads up display can’t be reflected on the windshield. I’m trading in my 2019 Countryman for the 2025 Countryman electric. While I’m not as in love with the design as I am with my current mini, I like the idea of having an EV mini and I’m loyal to the brand.
tbh, I hate the lack of a driver's display. I mean think about it, we spent decades telling people that they shouldn't use their phones and drive and we simply replaced it with a much bigger screen.
I totally get what you are saying. I have the countryman and my wife and i always say we love the size and kinda wish it was slightly bigger. we have a large family and i think the New mini ticks all the boxes in terms of inside space and boot space. If you want something smaller they have 2 door mini. I think the Brand is moving in the right direction. Obviously my own personal option. Hoping my dealer will have a demo in stock soon
This car is perfect size for a family, we are ordering ours tomorrow, fun car when you don't want to feel old..also my son has spd so will love all the lights inside
I think this new generation is going to be so fun they look great, soon you won't be able to tell the difference between what's new and current meaning: they will add another character to their portfolio and bring in new buyers and add to the Mini community! Even before I could drive I had a soft spot for Mini Coopers and now having owned the Countryman 2nd Gen and a 4 door S British racing green 💚 I can say I live and breathe Mini, I think the only car brand that can say every single car looks good
Come on, 60K+ pricetag for this full option JCW and you get hard plastic upper top dashboard. Ugly hard plastic at all 4 doors. Even de armrest in the backdoors are hardplastic. Fabric everywhere is nice but a real dustmagnet. Is that the quality for a Mini of 60K +?
Yeah, I totally agree. When they are talking about higher quality, I want to ask, Did you really see the previous one? For example rear vents now don’t have regulations, but the new x1 has. And a lot of this small things
Owning a 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper with BMW 1.5 Twinpower Turbo engine, drivetrain and suspension... The best car I ever owned. Sufficient power, excellent road behaviour, firm build quality, not too heavy (1385kg), enough space, enough technology but still analogue gauges with a digital speed indicator, leather interior, electric sun roof,.... I will hold onto this car for as long as possible. Yet, a new Mini Countryman always intrigues me. Not sure if the center display would suit me though...

Why on earth don’t they put the instrument binnacle on top of the steering column . I hate not having speed and rev counter in front of my eyes, and if you can’t do a heads up display properly, you shouldn’t do it at all. I think the interior is a mess and they’ve completely lost their way with the design of the mini.
Was interessant wäre, was verbraucht der Mini im Test? Bei SuperPlus Preisen um die 2€, spielt der Verbrauch inzwischen auch eine Rolle. Gutes Video 👍🏻
As an owner of 2 minis, this totally ruins the functionality, design and identity of what mini used to be like. To each their own, in my opinion this is regressive. First 10mins was promising though, totally lost me after. Disappointing

Interior space is amazing, especially wide legroom. I will now consider new Countryman as my new car. The price is high, but the competition is priced around the same
As an owner now of a Countryman C Sport with a level 3 Pack for the past 2.5 Months overall we are extremely happy with the car. Four things they need to address are as follows:- 1. The fixed headrest are angled too far forward and are annoying. They should be adjustable this is a cost cutting measure. 2. The indicators should show up in the heads up display and be made a software upgrade. 3. The heating controls should work from the Home Screen it’s dangerous changing these whilst driving 4. The suspension even with passive adaptive suspension is way too firm and makes long journeys sometimes tiring and hard on the back.
Great review! Great to see your videographer, Leah, for the first time!! BMW did a great job redesigning the Countryman JCW. Does this have the ZF 8 speed automatic transmission or the 7 speed dual clutch transmission like the X1 and X2?
Actually as a countryman user I like this design. However, roundish headlights would much better. With square headlights it is hard to distungish this car as a Mini.
With every new Mini, the Mini gets even less and less "Mini. Like at least the older Countryman versions had round-ish features. Now they just look like a boxy, reskinned BMW X1. I think I'm just going to sell my F55 Mini for a Volvo EX30. At least they're not pretending as something they're not anymore. But hey I like the small chunky steering wheel and the interior's industrial design, especially the air vents and switches/knobs on the center console. I'm somewhat sick of cars trying to be sleek with bullshit curves. Straight lines and pill / simple shapes finally!
Really like the one in white with the black roof, expensive, I would probably lease it. Reliability seems to have improved at Mini, hopefully more improvement in the new countrymen.
This is my new favourite car, I just love its character, and charm. And I really like the simple dash and graphics on the infotainment system. I'd get the 2 litre all 4 auto though. Or if they do one maybe a manual for more fun. I'd gt an Exclusive trim. Probably not as hard riding as the JCW or Sports model.
Looks debatable but will it last? - The days of treating cars, and all other manufactured objects, as throwaway products needs to come to an end. To me, it is important to make cars that last longer and that people want to keep for 25 to 50 years. Building cars is very energy demanding. Safe, desirable cars with a long use lifespan would go a long way toward reducing pollution.
I agree (maybe not with the timescale you mentioned… 🤔) but unfortunately the theme you’ve highlighted doesn’t fit into the modern marketing strategies of all companies, namely “where is our next sale coming from…” 😕
Great review and much better detail than I have seen on a couple of others this morning. Mini really is coming on song as a sub brand riding both ICE and EV. This car is a practical small SUV with genuinely distinctive UI/UX, the mini handling, and small steering wheel. I am not sure the pricing is entirely competitive at this spec, but it is not way out of court. It is interesting to compare this to what Mercedes and Geely are doing with their Smart sub brand at the Brabus spec. I am really quite torn between the two sub brands. Both now do a similar job to that which used to be done by my last (2017) Audi RS3 or thirty years further back by my last Lancia Integrale.
As always good reviewer. why does this car have one of the lowest reliability rates? What brand and lens of front right side camera filming you? just curious. Thanks
Thomas always enjoyed your reviews. Clear concise and give me what I want to hear about. My daughter has the previous Mini countryman (Cooper S) and it is a really good car. I have a 2008 Cooper S which is still a very good car, ride is poor on our terrible roads in the Uk but good on smoother roads, love driving it. I don't quite like the post B pillar look on the present model. The new one is much better although the dropped side badge is ok but I feel less would be more. The longer post B side gives the car better visual balance and the back is much better. As it has a lot more space its does make it a viable alternative for medium saloons but still compact dimensions. When I first saw the interior I thought it was awful but on close inspection on another test by BMWBlog and then yours it is really good and very clever and easy to use. I must admit my 2008 Mini Copper S with everything but the sat nav is too busy and too much (I like it but its not always easy going from another car - BMW 5 series and 1 Series). The adaptive damping sounds like a development of the 3 series passive double valve dampers. On our bad roads a test drive is required, we don't have many cobblestone roads in the Uk and those that we do in the cities are hit by congestion charges that means we don't bother going.
Thank you Mini for making us wonder why we don't get round OLED TVs! A 65inch or large would fill out a wall and be a totally immersive experience, like stepping into a portal. Is the 12V-battery location in the same place as in the BMW X1? Do you need to undo half the components in the engine bay to get to it?
Hello, really like the car despite the comments. can you help with this topics: fuel consumption ? comfort for family car ? how bad would it be on a light easy off road road? thank you so much !
Excellent review. May I ask was the wind noise better than the F60 model, as in the previous model it was rather annoying (far worse than the X1)? Also, how was the ride comfort and road noise? What was your opinion regarding interior plastic material (below the cloth) and switches?
Like he says, the windscreen is more upright and mini have never allowed acoustic glass to be specified on their cars, unlike the X1 so I assume it'll be worse than the X1 in that sense. If you want refined motorway driving you don't go for a Mini. With that said, I drove the U25 2.0 S engine in Dubai and it was fine at 100km per hour.
It’s interesting that the MINI Countryman has never been assembled in England like the Cooper. The R60 gen was built in Austria, the F60 was built in the Netherlands, and now the U25 is built in Germany.
I like when you check the sound of closing the door (4 min); I do the same and I never found a good sound in cars made in USA or by Stellantis; just look at Better call Saul: every car has a quieeeek door , also new cars
The OLED screen looks beautiful, but with such colorful static UI, it will probabaly suffer from burn-in. Not that it matters too much, but still a consideration. Also, I didnt know they had put speed bumps in the "Sintra test track", what a shame.
If you work out the typical run-time of an in-car display it’s actually quite low compared to a TV set which may be watched for many hours per day - so burn-in should not be such an issue for an in-car OLED.
I wonder if that screen wouldn't be too bright during night driving? I often reduce the strength of the center display ring and screen on my 2018 Countryman and sometimes even turn it off completely. I find it quite distracting.
@@brickmissing8295 yes, I suppose that's true. Also, the UI elements seem to stay mostly in the same spots, so it won't be too noticeable even if it does burn-in.
A “new mini” with both petrol and EV variants seems to be compromised from the start. I wonder how the interior of the EV looks like in terms of space. Also, cars are getting huge! It’s so long and tall on the road…
I like it, looks fun and playful. It's a mini afterall - but yeah great updates on both exterior and interior for me, I'd haveyto to get used to the gear shifter though, looks odd and lost for me - but otherwise, thumbs up mini. You did better than VW in my opinion. 🎉🥰
I’m totally not digging the Mini’s new design. It’s supposed to be city&sub fun cart not an overstyled and overgrown suv. I hate the thick roof, even JCW looks hideous. Interior looks cheap and lacks style, the dash fabric will be a nightmare to keep clean. Only change for better seems to be the infotainment. Pity, I own a f56 and seems will stay that way for longer. BMW definitely needs to revise their designers - everything they touch is a disaster lately.
I presently have a 2021 countryman exclusive. I’ve owned six Mini variants since 2007. Fun to drive and own. Unfortunately I won’t be purchasing another. BMW in its wisdom decided to ditch the manual gear lever from both variants. As a driving instructor I’ve lost count how many of my pupils have been introduced and excited by the brand. MINI’s loss.
Interesting car but i don't undestand why BMW have forgotten how to make dashboards, we have an oled screen here hmm where shall we put it? just bolt it on there somewhere and don't bother spending any money on making the dashboard fit to it. I bet that oled will cost about 4k when it needs replacing, ok when new but bad for the used buyer.
Had the same dilenma. Ended up with Countryman JCW. Better driving experience, much more practical ( more space ), cheaper. Too much piano black inside the BMW. If you are single and want a more sport type of car go with X2

Both now do a similar job to that which used to be done by my last (2017) Audi RS3 or thirty years further back by my last Lancia Integrale.
thanks my friend!
10'' is the wheel size of my 70's mini!
As always good reviewer. why does this car have one of the lowest reliability rates? What brand and lens of front right side camera filming you? just curious. Thanks
Not a vehicle I need, but a vehicle I would love to have in collection, for fun.
I like the fabric dashboard. I prefer fabric to leather personally. They just feel nicer
Cleaning it will be a bit of a nightmare though and over time the sun will probably bleach it
And why is Alan Partridge's big plate on the dashboard?
I think I love it.
Great review as always. 👍👍
Thanks keep tuning in!
Thank you Mini for making us wonder why we don't get round OLED TVs! A 65inch or large would fill out a wall and be a totally immersive experience, like stepping into a portal. Is the 12V-battery location in the same place as in the BMW X1? Do you need to undo half the components in the engine bay to get to it?
interior is like JBL`s designer lol
Is there enough space under the false floor for a space saver spare wheel?
The front looks a bit like the Daihatsu Raize or Daihatsu Rocky
Shoutout to Krusty the Clown 😂
🤡
Love watching thomas drive agile!
Hello, really like the car despite the comments. can you help with this topics: fuel consumption ? comfort for family car ? how bad would it be on a light easy off road road? thank you so much !
I Want that JCW as it is!
Yet another Simpsons reference. You really have to love the show :D
Fabric? Wonder how that would hold up with dog drool? Is it cleanable?
Mini vibes
A “new mini” with both petrol and EV variants seems to be compromised from the start.
I wonder how the interior of the EV looks like in terms of space.
Also, cars are getting huge! It’s so long and tall on the road…
It’s like we can’t have any small vehicles anymore. It’s so weird. I hate it.
Hey, I love your reviews. Have you recorded a drive review for the J01 yet? The J01 seems to have just disappeared since its initial launch.
cheers m8! No not yet, havent heard any driving possibility!
I wonder how many years the OLED will last before the burn-in and dimming become intolerable...?
It'll be OK for the 8 years almost every new car buyer will keep it for.
I have a question about the design of tail lights. What do British people feel about BMW MINI use Union Jack for their tail lights?
We're very honoured at the tribute.
I like it, looks fun and playful. It's a mini afterall - but yeah great updates on both exterior and interior for me, I'd haveyto to get used to the gear shifter though, looks odd and lost for me - but otherwise, thumbs up mini. You did better than VW in my opinion. 🎉🥰
How is adaptive suspension for comfort? Is it still very stiff and rough?
Always pretty stiff no matter the suspension. Best is too get the smaller wheels possible
The grill reminds me of the Suzuki Swift Sport😊
I’m totally not digging the Mini’s new design. It’s supposed to be city&sub fun cart not an overstyled and overgrown suv. I hate the thick roof, even JCW looks hideous. Interior looks cheap and lacks style, the dash fabric will be a nightmare to keep clean. Only change for better seems to be the infotainment. Pity, I own a f56 and seems will stay that way for longer. BMW definitely needs to revise their designers - everything they touch is a disaster lately.
Incl. their record $ale$ on 60 years of growth.
Oh no, what have they done to the looks!
They're going to have to stop calling these Mini - because they're Huge. That spearmint colour at 1:06 is really cool!
Won't that steering strap go loose after some time?
Can u turn off bluetooth and location like in the older models still??? This is a dealbreaker if not
So is it a duel clutch transmission??
Interesting car but i don't undestand why BMW have forgotten how to make dashboards, we have an oled screen here hmm where shall we put it? just bolt it on there somewhere and don't bother spending any money on making the dashboard fit to it. I bet that oled will cost about 4k when it needs replacing, ok when new but bad for the used buyer.
This really looks nice! Is Mini / BMW a new Korean brand? Lovely plastics by the way.
Would you pick the Mini vsX2...JCW vs X2 ?
Had the same dilenma. Ended up with Countryman JCW. Better driving experience, much more practical ( more space ), cheaper. Too much piano black inside the BMW. If you are single and want a more sport type of car go with X2
What does it have to do with mini design ?
I'm not a fan of mini but I would buy this new mini. Not bad.
Is worth it buying of cooper S version?
Looks like Suzuki swift 😢😢😢😢😊
Great car i did the test drive on my channel. great video
Is this BMW x1 in disguise?
In the US, this car is listed by the EPA as a "Midsize" car. At nearly 3700 pounds, it's anything but Mini.........
What’s poking out behind the circle screen? Looks like a vent?
Projector for the dash ambient lighting.
How does it change gear I can’t see a gear knob ?
Toggle on the dash board next to the start function.
