I second Downshiftology. I have been using her recipes for years. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic with a sensitivity to wheat where my blood sugars skyrocket and I can't get them down for hours. I avoid it....she has been a lifesaver! Her recipes are simple and very yummy

Haha, I'm listening using an earbud and had to pause because I thought I heard my kids and wasn't sure what they were up to.. they seemed fine, so I continued the video to your saying you could hear your kids and hoped we couldn't... 😄

This is the quintessential accessory item - I can see all the colors and experiments working with this pattern. This would be fantastic to give as gifts, too.

Love watching and have learned a lot! Thank you. I did want to maybe contribute something helpful when it comes to plying. If you have under or over plyed, you can wind your yarn into a cake and run it through your wheel again to either remove or add additional twist. You can do this even if the yarn has been washed/soaked. Hopefully this info will help someone!

I love that cowl so much. Beautiful! I liked the story of your name & can relate to your advice. My youngest had a very deep dimple at the base of his spine when he was born. We told him he was born with a tail that was removed at birth. When he was in 2nd grade, we fessed up bc he told his teacher and class the story. Alas, our family joke came to an end. He’s fine, btw. He’s got a strong sense of humor.

Oh Andrea, I've loved every episode you've posted and this episode I think is my all time favourite. I found myself talking back to you. 😆🤣
Since the very first episode I have quite a lot of your patterns including your latest cowl, but the Weekender was the first one.
I had planned to join in the #DRKspinittoknititKAL, but couldn't decide what size to knit, so when you suggested choosing the sleeve measurement, I was made up!
So when I have completed a few UFOs it will be full steam ahead with the weekender and cowl!
As a vegetarian I too keep a cooking journal, but when you said you had started watching Downshiftology I shouted out, "yay she's great". I've been following her for a couple of years now and find her videos so helpful.
Thank you so much for spending time with us and sharing all your knowledge. ♥Please keep it up. 😉

Plying tip! You can use a protractor or printed angle guage to measure the angle of the ply twist in your yarns. I like to measure yarns I like (or are similar to what I'm making) and then compare that to the ply twist of my sample or yarn in progress. Another option is to measure your "bumps per inch", as in how many times one of the plies bumps out along the side of a length of yarn. It will be different for every yarn but it can help you be consistent as you work on a single project. More bumps=more twist added, fewer bumps=less twist added.

thank you for another great video. I am a new knitter and am watching your videos ravenously, they have helped me understand yarn composition and behavior so much, and feel confident in altering patterns (a little, lol, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel). Your joy in knitting (and in life) is so apparent, and your eagerness to share what you have learned is a light. You have a gift in knowing how to talk to your audience and a skill in how you approach knitting methodically, yet with a touch of "yeah, try that modification." My favorite days are the ones where I get a new DRK video

Knitting small projects with hand spun is such a great way to have fun trying out yarn designs. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your cowl with the yarn you spin for it. So many choices. When you talk about your spinning process it would be really helpful to mention the WPI you spin the singles and the twist angle of the ply. It's my biggest challenge when it comes to spinning for a pattern. How to get it right to fit, or to drape, or to be durable etc. Thank you for this wonderful Q and A's. It's a great way to start the weekend:)

Ok your Renee story was so funny. It’s true. My mom hurt her shoulder really bad at work when my sister and I were little. She had to go to a physio/rehab for about a week to fix it. My sister and I told everyone at school that our Mom went away to rehab…obviously without further explanation and you can imagine what people thought. I’m pretty sure my dad had to tell our teachers what really happened. Kids say whatever is on their minds. No filter. 😂

In terms of getting the “sweet spot” of twist in yarn while spinning, I’ve definitely found a spinner’s control card helpful! I do periodic checks with this and ply-back tests while spinning to make sure that I’m staying on track for what I’m looking for as I go.

Your name story is so funny!! It's the same as mine! I was supposed to be named Suzon and in the early sixties, lots of hospitals had chapels for baptisms and such. My mom had had a C-section and she was to remain in the hospital for 7 to 10 days. In those days, babies were baptized usually within a week of their birth or so. So my mom was in a pretty dressing gown, and sitting in a wheelchair when the priest asked her how I would be named and she surprised everyone, including my dad and my godmother, when she announced that my name would be Johanne!

So my son is around the same age and tells HIS class and teacher about his dad's middle name!
