I'll put an end to the one year streak now by saying . For the last year I've been listening every night for the past year to uploaded live concerts of the original BOSTON lineup and yes, I was around in 1976 and in 1977 catching Foreigner, Toto and Player come out and also breaking big. I couldn't understand why there's no live C.Ds or Blue ray, DVD on the band live but I figured it out. Tom Scholz will only talk about himself and since he would be on camera , he wouldn't need a mirror. Brad Delp/Sib Hashian (RIP)
I totally agree with you... there's not a day that's gone by that Brad hasn't crossed my mind in some way. In my heart, he'll forever be missed. He touched soooo many souls, including mine. He was what you call...A Once in a Lifetime Person... Truly Phenomenal♥️
When you look at lead singers of the era I really don’t believe there was anyone from the rock genre that could hold a candle to Brad as far as vocal talent goes.
I met Brad Many years ago in Chicago at a restaurant. After i introduced myself (I'm nobody) he asked me to sit with him. For 20 minutes we talked music. Im a musician and he's my vocal hero so I was over the moon talking to him. Such a nice guy. A tragic ending for sure.
Nice to hear that coming from someone else. My uncle was very close with him and went on tour with him with RTZ. He has told me all my life how kind hearted and sweet Brad Delp was and that he was the nicest guys he'd ever met. Sounds like my uncle wasn't lying 😋
@@andrewmccarty I told him how much I loved rtz. I saw them in Grand Rapids Michigan. It was cold and from what I remember snowing (maybe) we were in a glass enclosed entry. They wouldn’t let us in yet and Brad and Barry came out and thanked us for waiting for a bit. Imagine that! I knew then he was a good guy. And btw, kudos to Barry, had the tone, the leads exact for the Boston tunes they did.

The reason I stopped reading and respecting Rolling Stone magazine... One of many reasons...are their ridiculous top 100 lists. When they did top 100 singers of all time Brad Delp wasn't even on there. Any musician or singer who actually listens to his range and tone will tell you Brad Delp had one of the three best voices in rock and roll ever. Period.

I remember playing a Boston record in my room and my Mom came in and told me to turn it up so she could hear it in the kitchen. She asked me who it was and I told her. She said it sounded pretty. I was so shocked, because she was always yelling at me to turn my music down. Good memories. The 70's - 80's was a great time to be alive.
I was in my room listening to Black Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and my mom came in to ask me about the same thing and I was shocked she let me have them in the house because of their name and reputation. She was a spiritual person she had a broad range of musical likes. I feel sorry for the people who will never see Boston or hear Brads amazing voice. I believe that the entire band was pushed too hard for too long by Tom Shultz to the point of abuse. He obviously couldn't take anymore that is a tragedy for everyone.
Boston was an absolute power house, and the true meaning of Rock and Roll. This world didn't deserve Brad. I wish we could go back to the day Brad decided to take his own life and show him that he IS truly loved.
Tom wrote the songs.--and did an amazing job...but that voice ->Brad's VOICE is what makes those songs truly great. Sends shivers down my spine listening to him sing. RIP Brad. You are missed!

This was THE band when I was in high school. T shirts, belt buckles, and concerts; I miss high school and I still listen and love Boston. RIP Brad, we love you bro.🙏🏻✌️

Maybe they did not have certain types pushing them if you know what I mean? If you are a certain religious type, you will get lots of support. Example Tim Buckley VS Bob Dylan. Both were great but Tim had an incredible vocal range & a poet but was not assisted. He released so many albums. Dylan did get that financial & other support. Was it timing? Who knows. Who you know, can really help. Sometimes it might be who you associate with religious or otherwise. But in the case of Brad why not him he had a fantastic natural voice!
His high notes were supernatural, almost haunting. I noticed that a lot of us remember the very first time we heard More Than a Feeling. I was on a bus coming home from school and it came over our bus driver's radio. A classmate across the aisle from me leaned back against a half-open bus window, closed his eyes while his hair blew around, losing himself "in a song" with Brad's operatic voice. A 45 year-old memory sticks with me like yesterday.
Brad Delp is a true rock and roll icon. His vocals are unmatched to this day. I have to listen to at least one Boston track everyday. Then 2 and 3 and so on….can’t pick a favorite. I heard Boston for the first time at a skate park in Florence SC in the mid 70s, been listening since. What a band, what a front man! Truly missed!
He was one of the underrated great voices of rock and roll. His epic, soaring melodies over Tom's driving rhythm and searing leads instantly carry me away. Boston is a band that should truly be looked back upon as one of the greatest rock bands ever.
I've been watching "First Reaction" videos from a number of people (mainly musicians and professional singers) who were experiencing Boston and Brad Delp for the first time. Invariably, when they heard him shift from one octave to the next in "More Than A Feeling", their eyes widened and their jaws dropped. Many hands moved to cover many open mouths in shock and amazement. The look on Elizabeth Zharoff's ("The Charismatic Voice" - a professional opera singer) face was one of disbelief and pure joy. It nearly brought her to tears. I'm 55 years old and I have been listening to Boston my entire life. It never, *EVER* gets old.
I remember listening to the first Boston album...years and years ago...his voice can stir such feeling .....it did then and still does ..I'm 67...Brad Delp your voice is missed...
Everybody went apeshit over scholzs rockman and him taking credit for all the guitars when Barry Goodyear left their sound lacked that harmonic muscle. All I cared about was one of if not the greatest voice ever.

I went to see a friend in Boston around 74' or 75', and he took me to a school gym with his brothers to see a band play, it was Boston playing these same songs.
Brad Delp is without a doubt, in the top 5 greatest singers in rock history. The only 3 I can think of that were in his league was Freddy Mercury, Steve Perry and Geoff Tate. Brad was in a total class by himself because of his tone....and range. What a loss
The list of great singers in my humble opinion should include Burton Cummings of the Guess Who. Lead singer of a Canadian Band famous for such tunes as "American Woman", "These Eyes"....I do not make this claim alone as many of Burton's musical peers share the same view.
I'm not just saying this b/c of how much I love their music, but I really liked Brad Delp as a guy. Yes, his vocals were heavenly, soaring through the stratosphere, but I'm talking about the kind of person he was: humble, thoughtful, genuine-seeming, a touch melancholy. Still very saddened when I think of his earthly end.

Unbelievable that they were turned down by all the record companies. You just had to hear that album once to know it would be a smash hit. And Brad Delp’s singing was unparalleled. One of the greatest rock singers of all time.

After walking home from school everyday singing this song, my little brother and I were 9 & 10 when we finally walked down to the record store one sunny Southern California Saturday morning in '76 (after finishing our cereal and Schoolhouse Rock of course), $5 in hand, and bought this new album. Played it to absolute death (usually as soon as I got home from school.. this and Frampton). Dad would sometimes bust into my room and yell, 'TURN DOWN THAT NOISE!!').. lol. Have had this record and other records of that time all these years... plus those of my folks. Saw them at Irvine Meadows years later for Third Stage. Love 'em always..

My wife and I use to follow Beatlejuice around,(we're huge Beatles fans) and were fortunate enough to have many conversations with Brad. We were struck by how humble and sweet this amazing talent was. We miss him so much. God Bless Brad may you R.I.P.

le th you missed my point. I said that it was one of the things that led to his suicide but not all of it. I’m not making up excuses, I’m not even his fan. It’s not normal for a person to take his life over an incident like that. A lot of other celebrities have done way worse. He said in his letter to someone that he always suffered from depression. I am presenting facts. He was being treated for depression/ anxiety and stage fright. Chris Cornell/Kurt Cobain both suffered from long-term depression and committed suicide.

She found the recording devices, the videos, and told him he had something like 3 days to tell her sister (and his fiance) about what he had done before she was going to tell her. Hours before that deadline he tried to kill himself by attaching a hose to his exhaust pipe with his car running. When that didn't work, he then went out and purchased 2 bbq grills and taped around the bathroom door to make CERTAIN he would have a tight seal, and he had written out confession letters to those closest to him as to what he had done. Then, in typical covert narcissist fashion, he pinned a note to his clothing...written in French...saying he was a lonely soul. He was portraying himself as a victim, even though he was the perpetrator...the very clear and obvious perpetrator with dozens of videos to PROVE that point. He was feeling sorry for himself, and just like any narcissist, he didn't want to "lose face" publicly and lose his status as a rockstar to become publicly known as an untrustworthy pervert. You are lumping people who have committed suicide together because they have the same profession, and not looking at each person individually. Kurt Cobain likely suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder because he had suicidal ideation, and was constantly talking about death, dying, and wanting to die. He also had health problems since childhood that were akin to irritable bowel syndrome, and it made his childhood and adulthood miserable. I do not know the specifics around Cornell's death, yet I heard he was diagnosed (incorrectly) with bipolar disorder when what he really had was Borderline Personality Disorder. Now, is it possible that Brad Delp also suffered from BPD? Perhaps...however, it sure sounds like he was worried about being held accountable...by authorities and his fiancee...for the crimes (plural) he committed, and that smacks of narcissistic personality disorder, especially when you combine it with his stage fright (which is a tell-tale sign of covert narcissism). Narcissists lack empathy for others and they believe the rules and laws of society apply to everyone else BUT them, and they portray themselves as the victim when they are truly the perpetrator. Judges hear this shit in court ALL THE TIME from narcissistic criminals who do what is called "blame-shifting"...blaming their victim or others for the crimes they've committed and/or outright denying they did anything wrong and not wanting to be held accountable for breaking the law and/or violating the rights of others. If that was your daughter who had been filmed...repeatedly...or you...you might be a little more sympathetic to the person who was victimized, and not so much toward the perpetrator.
I was 13 in 1976 and when I heard "More Than A Feeling" on my little AM radio, I didn't know what the song was really about but I knew instantly that it was going to be on my mind forever. I come from a musical family and this was the first "Rock" band album I was allowed to buy. BOSTON: Brad, Barry, Fran, Sib, and Tom are the only people I recognize as BOSTON. I can't stand the rodeo round-up that Tom has been doing since Brad's death, and even before that with "letting Barry and Fran go" whatever that means. He had perfection and now he just has, what I call, a "cover band" who play BOSTON songs. "More Than A Feeling" is a song for everyone; we all have that certain song that hits home and gives us a feeling like no other. The funny thing is, "More Than A Feeling" is that song for me. Brad, you can sing to me in my dreams forever.

I was about the same age when it hit - I remember my friends brother and 3 other guys standing around a truck as they were debating going to their show for this album - Veterans memorial coliseum in Phx - I wished I could have went - Have you heard the clips on Tom's FB site from their new album "Life, Love & Hope"? OMG I hate to say it - but it is terrible - sounds like Tom made this album for a crappy High School movie that will never get released - there is no soul at all not a drop in their new album - sad....really sad!
I just can't grasp the Boston sound. I know a little about music, I understand the talent that's there. But I can't dig the Boston sound. Now, when Brad was covering the Beatles, wow, greatness to my ears!

I was at the record store and bought Boston because of the cool cover (I bought Buckingham/Nicks on that same trip, also because of the cover ;)). As soon as i put that record on the living room console stereo turntable I knew I'd never be the same again. I was a rocker after the first listening and took up guitar because of them. It's now 40 years later and i still play their songs for practice. Brad had a once in a lifetime voice that i still haven't heard bettered. Kinda like Bon Scott in that way. We'll miss ya, bro

One of the best male vocalist in Rock. Delp vocal range was unbelievably amazing. RIP Brad! He's doing heavenly vocals now with the rest of the great musicians that left us too early.
My final year living in Philly. Summertime, the unique sound of Boston, beautiful harmonies headed up by Mr. Delp. Still enjoy it at least a couple of times a week.

He very likely had an underlying personality disorder which is often what drives people to seek the limelight in the first place (not unlike Freddie Mercury and many, many others who crave that kind of attention). He was NOT married to his fiancee; that is why they use the term fiancee, because the marriage has not taken place. One of the most incredible singers and one of the best voices in rock history - today still unbelievable what Brad Delp has achieved and delivered, especially on the first Boston album - also one of the best albums in rock history.
The 70's was a great time to be alive and coming of age! A magical time when there was so much great music back when the lyrics were as important as the music and before videos ruined everything with emphasis on image over lyrics and the music.
The only influence of video over lyrics and music is if the viewer/listener takes it that way. Me? I watched videos in the 80's and 90's, enjoyed some of them, laughed at the silliness of others, went out and bought the album if the music was good.
the video that really shocked me when I was young and used to watch MTV (80's) was one video that started out of nowhere with a guitar and then the full band... then they started to sing "they say you wanna revolutiooon well you know..." The Beatles!!! one camera filming them just performing the song.. period. but snobby ppl, used to like big productions videos and starting to call 'art' to albums covers. "who made the art? blah blah..." the art is the sound of those records (if it's the case) art is Music!! Music is Art. the desing of some album cover is just craft... Music is #1
Brad Delp. One of the most gifted vocalists ever to walk Planet Earth. His vocals with Boston are TIMELESS. I never tire of hearing Boston’s songs and Brad’s voice has as much to do with it as Tom’s masterful guitar compositions and playing.
Love you Brad. I hope all of the love and good vibes are reaching you. You were the soundtrack to my Wonder Years. Boston was always playing walking the beach strand in SC in the 70's. So glad I saw you on the Third Stage tour at the Dean Dome, 1987!! You blessed us all and I think of you so very often and I smile.
Being involved in music all of my life, and now 65 years old, Boston and Brad Delp changed the face of Rock and Roll in 1976. I recall my friend in HS asking if I had listed to Boston yet or heard them on the radio when I was a Junior in High School. I had not heard of them yet, and as soon as I did, made sure I purchased the album and sang to and memorized every song on the album. TO THIS DAY, I know all the words, have played these songs hundreds of times through out the years, and still get off on the unique sound that Tom and Brad created within the band. Later, as an adult, and learning how the band split up and what happened to Delp truly saddened me. We however have been left a digital memory of Delp and Boston, with the genius of Scholz production and writing skills for generations to come.
His voice has brought me so much joy through out my life. I am 46 and I discovered Boston long after their hey day in 1985. I was 12 years old then, a young girl listening to Boston in the morning, getting ready for school. It always makes my morning drive to work, even now to hear More Than A Feeling. Wow - he really seemed like a genuinely nice and regular guy - but with a magnificent voice. The proof is how good he sounded live - he was amazing. Very sad he had so much internal conflict and he could not get the help he needed.
People talk about Steve Perry being "the voice", and rightfully so. But I don't think any rock-and-roll band can claim a better front vocal man than Boston's Brad Delp. Sure, they are different musical styles, but Delp made Longtime into an anthem. It wasn't even a 45 release because it was too long. Yet, everyone with an eardrum has heard that song, and - unless you have some kind of abject foolishness - loves it. NO cover band can do that song justice, no way! That was complete, authentic brilliance!
Boston's founder, Tom Scholtz, claims to have always been a one-man band in an interview I just watched here on RUclips. He was taking credit for everything. For me, Boston can never be Boston without Brad Delp. No one sings along with Tom's guitar (although he is a great player). They sing along with Brad. Or try to, anyway. His range, tone, and vibrato were unbelievable. And he was awesome on guitar and keyboards, too.
Gotta kinda agree with you Jan. Didn't see the video you stated but in interviews I did see of Tom about the band, he always seemed to have that "If it wasn't for me" attitude. Hence, after the 2nd album the band slowly started to fall apart and the current "Boston" comes NO WHERE NEAR the original. Heck, Tom is the only one left in the current band and he looks like he's ready for a wheelchair!
If I had to pick a single band that most evokes my childhood and adolescence in the 70s, it's Boston. That music was literally *always* playing somewhere in the second half of that decade. Love or hate the songwriting, that sound was thrilling and groundbreaking for its day. And Scholz is an egomaniac if he wants to deny how important Brad's voice was. Look up the song "Dreams" by Brad Delp and Boston's other guitarist, Barry Goudreau -- it sounds more like classic Boston than anything Scholz has ever released with other singers.

I saw them in concert in Atlanta at the Omni just before the second album came out, and they did a couple of songs from Don't Look Back and just blew us away. Brad was as good in person as he was in the studio. Amazing. Whenever I listen to music, I start with Boston.

Knowing what I know now, seeing Brad here makes me a little sad. He knows it was all Tom's baby and mostly his playing and writing and puppeteering but Brad is trying to answer as if they were a band. :( His look upon hearing that "wonderful creative freedom".... no, not really. Now I know why there are not many interviews with Brad.
I'm so glad at least some people can see through him. He was a vocalist and nothing more. Nothing about "Boston" has anything to do with anyone but Tom. Heck, even the girl Maryann he references in the song as walking away from him was Tom's older cousin on whom he had a crush. Brad's vocals were really good, no doubt, but as a human being he was a very sick, entitled, perverse individual. I rarely say such callous things, but I think in his case he did society a favor by ending his life. We don't need people with his proclivities walking around pretending to be decent people.
@@TruthSurge He killed himself because he was with over 2 years worth of videos he had been filming of fiancee's sister in her home. The sister of his fiancee confronted him about the video cameras and video tapes and threatened to expose him to his fiancee if he didn't tell her first. So instead of facing the criminal charges and shame of being publicly outed, he went out and bought to grills, closed himself up in a room, sealed it off with him and his suicide letters inside, and waited to die. He had not only been filming his fiancee's sister in various states of undress (which is entitled and disturbed in and of itself), but also filming her lover while they had sex. It takes a fairly sick individual to think about that, much less to take all the actions required to pull it off (placing the cameras, watching who comes and goes, hitting the record button and putting in new video tapes). Who knows what else he did aside from that, this is just what drove him to suicide (because he was too much of a coward to face the consequences of his actions).

The fact that there were so many years between albums shows that making money was not the only motivation for them, but to make the BEST music they could. Brad has an amazing voice and Tom Scholz is the genius soundmeister who crafted their sound. Their first album was made almost entirely in Tom's basement (except for the last song on the album "Let me take you home tonight" which was actually recorded in a studio) which shows how talented these guys were.

For the last year I've been listening every night for the past year to uploaded live concerts of the original BOSTON lineup and yes, I was around in 1976 and in 1977 catching Foreigner, Toto and Player come out and also breaking big. I couldn't understand why there's no live C.Ds or Blue ray, DVD on the band live but I figured it out. When you look at lead singers of the era I really don’t believe there was anyone from the rock genre that could hold a candle to Brad as far as vocal talent goes.
I met Brad Many years ago in Chicago at a restaurant. After i introduced myself (I'm nobody) he asked me to sit with him. For 20 minutes we talked music. Im a musician and he's my vocal hero so I was over the moon talking to him. Such a nice guy. A tragic ending for sure.
Nice to hear that coming from someone else. My uncle was very close with him and went on tour with him with RTZ. He has told me all my life how kind hearted and sweet Brad Delp was and that he was the nicest guys he'd ever met. Sounds like my uncle wasn't lying 😋

They wouldn’t let us in yet and Brad and Barry came out and thanked us for waiting for a bit. Imagine that! I knew then he was a good guy. And btw, kudos to Barry, had the tone, the leads exact for the Boston tunes they did.

I remember playing a Boston record in my room and my Mom came in and told me to turn it up so she could hear it in the kitchen. She asked me who it was and I told her. She said it sounded pretty. I was so shocked, because she was always yelling at me to turn my music down. Good memories. The 70's - 80's was a great time to be alive.

I was in my room listening to Black Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and my mom came in to ask me about the same thing and I was shocked she let me have them in the house because of their name and reputation. She was a spiritual person she had a broad range of musical likes. I feel sorry for the people who will never see Boston or hear Brads amazing voice. Maybe they did not have certain types pushing them if you know what I mean? If you are a certain religious type, you will get lots of support. Example Tim Buckley VS Bob Dylan. Both were great but Tim had an incredible vocal range & a poet but was not assisted. He released so many albums. Dylan did get that financial & other support. Was it timing? Who knows. Who you know, can really help. Sometimes it might be who you associate with religious or otherwise. But in the case of Brad why not him he had a fantastic natural voice!
There's a 100% chance than when Boston comes on the radio, the volume know WILL be cranked up, no matter what position it's in!

His high notes were supernatural, almost haunting. I noticed that a lot of us remember the very first time we heard More Than a Feeling. I was on a bus coming home from school and it came over our bus driver's radio. A classmate across the aisle from me leaned back against a half-open bus window, closed his eyes while his hair blew around, losing himself "in a song" with Brad's operatic voice. A 45 year-old memory sticks with me like yesterday.
I've blown more speakers listening to Boston than any other band. I just can't help cranking it up to 11.

Brad Delp is a true rock and roll icon. His vocals are unmatched to this day. I have to listen to at least one Boston track everyday. Then 2 and 3 and so on….can’t pick a favorite. I heard Boston for the first time at a skate park in Florence SC in the mid 70s, been listening since. What a band, what a front man! Truly missed!
He was one of the underrated great voices of rock and roll. His epic, soaring melodies over Tom's driving rhythm and searing leads instantly carry me away. Boston is a band that should truly be looked back upon as one of the greatest rock bands ever.
The last question and answer really hit. Boston (I) will always be my all time favorite album, and Brad the all time greatest rock n roll vocalist.
I've been watching "First Reaction" videos from a number of people (mainly musicians and professional singers) who were experiencing Boston and Brad Delp for the first time. Invariably, when they heard him shift from one octave to the next in "More Than A Feeling", their eyes widened and their jaws dropped. Many hands moved to cover many open mouths in shock and amazement. The look on Elizabeth Zharoff's ("The Charismatic Voice" - a professional opera singer) face was one of disbelief and pure joy. It nearly brought her to tears. I'm 55 years old and I have been listening to Boston my entire life. It never, *EVER* gets old.
I remember listening to the first Boston album...years and years ago...his voice can stir such feeling .....it did then and still does ..I'm 67...Brad Delp your voice is missed...
Everybody went apeshit over scholzs rockman and him taking credit for all the guitars when Barry Goodyear left their sound lacked that harmonic muscle. All I cared about was one of if not the greatest voice ever.

Played it to absolute death (usually as soon as I got home from school.. this and Frampton). Dad would sometimes bust into my room and yell, 'TURN DOWN THAT NOISE!!').. lol. Have had this record and other records of that time all these years... plus those of my folks. Saw them at Irvine Meadows years later for Third Stage. Love 'em always..

It’s not normal for a person to take his life over an incident like that. A lot of other celebrities have done way worse. He said in his letter to someone that he always suffered from depression. I am presenting facts. He was being treated for depression/ anxiety and stage fright. Chris Cornell/Kurt Cobain both suffered from long-term depression and committed suicide.

When that didn't work, he then went out and purchased 2 bbq grills and taped around the bathroom door to make CERTAIN he would have a tight seal, and he had written out confession letters to those closest to him as to what he had done. Then, in typical covert narcissist fashion, he pinned a note to his clothing...written in French...saying he was a lonely soul. He was portraying himself as a victim, even though he was the perpetrator...the very clear and obvious perpetrator with dozens of videos to PROVE that point. He was feeling sorry for himself, and just like any narcissist, he didn't want to "lose face" publicly and lose his status as a rockstar to become publicly known as an untrustworthy pervert.
You are lumping people who have committed suicide together because they have the same profession, and not looking at each person individually. Kurt Cobain likely suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder because he had suicidal ideation, and was constantly talking about death, dying, and wanting to die. He also had health problems since childhood that were akin to irritable bowel syndrome, and it made his childhood and adulthood miserable. I do not know the specifics around Cornell's death, yet I heard he was diagnosed (incorrectly) with bipolar disorder when what he really had was Borderline Personality Disorder.
Now, is it possible that Brad Delp also suffered from BPD? Perhaps...however, it sure sounds like he was worried about being held accountable...by authorities and his fiancee...for the crimes (plural) he committed, and that smacks of narcissistic personality disorder, especially when you combine it with his stage fright (which is a tell-tale sign of covert narcissism).

I was 13 in 1976 and when I heard "More Than A Feeling" on my little AM radio, I didn't know what the song was really about but I knew instantly that it was going to be on my mind forever. I come from a musical family and this was the first "Rock" band album I was allowed to buy. BOSTON: Brad, Barry, Fran, Sib, and Tom are the only people I recognize as BOSTON. I can't stand the rodeo round-up that Tom has been doing since Brad's death, and even before that with "letting Barry and Fran go" whatever that means. He had perfection and now he just has, what I call, a "cover band" who play BOSTON songs. "More Than A Feeling" is a song for everyone; we all have that certain song that hits home and gives us a feeling like no other. The funny thing is, "More Than A Feeling" is that song for me. Brad, you can sing to me in my dreams forever.

I was about the same age when it hit - I remember my friends brother and 3 other guys standing around a truck as they were debating going to their show for this album - Veterans memorial coliseum in Phx - I wished I could have went - Have you heard the clips on Tom's FB site from their new album "Life, Love & Hope"? OMG I hate to say it - but it is terrible - sounds like Tom made this album for a crappy High School movie that will never get released - there is no soul at all not a drop in their new album - sad....really sad!
I just can't grasp the Boston sound. I know a little about music, I understand the talent that's there. But I can't dig the Boston sound. Now, when Brad was covering the Beatles, wow, greatness to my ears!

I was 15 and into John Denver and Neil Diamond. I was at the record store and bought Boston because of the cool cover (I bought Buckingham/Nicks on that same trip, also because of the cover ;)). As soon as i put that record on the living room console stereo turntable I knew I'd never be the same again. I was a rocker after the first listening and took up guitar because of them. It's now 40 years later and i still play their songs for practice. Brad had a once in a lifetime voice that i still haven't heard bettered. Kinda like Bon Scott in that way. We'll miss ya, bro

One of the best male vocalist in Rock. Delp vocal range was unbelievably amazing. RIP Brad! He's doing heavenly vocals now with the rest of the great musicians that left us too early.

My final year living in Philly. Summertime, the unique sound of Boston, beautiful harmonies headed up by Mr. Delp. Still enjoy it at least a couple of times a week.

He very likely had an underlying personality disorder which is often what drives people to seek the limelight in the first place (not unlike Freddie Mercury and many, many others who crave that kind of attention).
He was indeed a very warped individual and we know that by his behavior and actions.
I don't think that anyone would argue against his vocal talent. It's very apparent.

The 70's was a great time to be alive and coming of age! A magical time when there was so much great music back when the lyrics were as important as the music and before videos ruined everything with emphasis on image over lyrics and the music.

the video that really shocked me when I was young and used to watch MTV (80's) was one video that started out of nowhere with a guitar and then the full band... then they started to sing "they say you wanna revolutiooon well you know..."

Brad Delp. One of the most gifted vocalists ever to walk Planet Earth. His vocals with Boston are TIMELESS. I never tire of hearing Boston’s songs and Brad’s voice has as much to do with it as Tom’s masterful guitar compositions and playing.
Tom Scholz is a musical genius but he treated Brad like dog crap. The music was great but Brad’s voice sold the records and concert tickets.

Being involved in music all of my life, and now 65 years old, Boston and Brad Delp changed the face of Rock and Roll in 1976. I recall my friend in HS asking if I had listed to Boston yet or heard them on the radio when I was a Junior in High School. I had not heard of them yet, and as soon as I did, made sure I purchased the album and sang to and memorized every song on the album. TO THIS DAY, I know all the words, have played these songs hundreds of times through out the years, and still get off on the unique sound that Tom and Brad created within the band.
Later, as an adult, and learning how the band split up and what happened to Delp truly saddened me. We however have been left a digital memory of Delp and Boston, with the genius of Scholz production and writing skills for generations to come.
Boston had such a unique sound, like none other. Brad was truly a great singer. Saw them in concert back in '81. What a great show. RIP Brad.

Wow - he really seemed like a genuinely nice and regular guy - but with a magnificent voice. The proof is how good he sounded live - he was amazing. Very sad he had so much internal conflict and he could not get the help he needed.

People talk about Steve Perry being "the voice", and rightfully so. But I don't think any rock-and-roll band can claim a better front vocal man than Boston's Brad Delp. Sure, they are different musical styles, but Delp made Longtime into an anthem. It wasn't even a 45 release because it was too long. Yet, everyone with an eardrum has heard that song, and - unless you have some kind of abject foolishness - loves it. NO cover band can do that song justice, no way! That was complete, authentic brilliance!

Boston's founder, Tom Scholtz, claims to have always been a one-man band in an interview I just watched here on RUclips. He was taking credit for everything. For me, Boston can never be Boston without Brad Delp. No one sings along with Tom's guitar (although he is a great player). They sing along with Brad. Or try to, anyway. His range, tone, and vibrato were unbelievable. And he was awesome on guitar and keyboards, too.
Gotta kinda agree with you Jan. Didn't see the video you stated but in interviews I did see of Tom about the band, he always seemed to have that "If it wasn't for me" attitude. Hence, after the 2nd album the band slowly started to fall apart and the current "Boston" comes NO WHERE NEAR the original. Heck, Tom is the only one left in the current band and he looks like he's ready for a wheelchair!
If I had to pick a single band that most evokes my childhood and adolescence in the 70s, it's Boston. That music was literally *always* playing somewhere in the second half of that decade. Love or hate the songwriting, that sound was thrilling and groundbreaking for its day. And Scholz is an egomaniac if he wants to deny how important Brad's voice was. Look up the song "Dreams" by Brad Delp and Boston's other guitarist, Barry Goudreau -- it sounds more like classic Boston than anything Scholz has ever released with other singers.

I saw them in concert in Atlanta at the Omni just before the second album came out, and they did a couple of songs from Don't Look Back and just blew us away. Brad was as good in person as he was in the studio. Amazing. Whenever I listen to music, I start with Boston.

Knowing what I know now, seeing Brad here makes me a little sad. He knows it was all Tom's baby and mostly his playing and writing and puppeteering but Brad is trying to answer as if they were a band. :( His look upon hearing that "wonderful creative freedom".... no, not really. Now I know why there are not many interviews with Brad.
I'm so glad at least some people can see through him. He was a vocalist and nothing more. Nothing about "Boston" has anything to do with anyone but Tom. Heck, even the girl Maryann he references in the song as walking away from him was Tom's older cousin on whom he had a crush.
Brad's vocals were really good, no doubt, but as a human being he was a very sick, entitled, perverse individual. I rarely say such callous things, but I think in his case he did society a favor by ending his life. We don't need people with his proclivities walking around pretending to be decent people.

The sister of his fiancee confronted him about the video cameras and video tapes and threatened to expose him to his fiancee if he didn't tell her first. So instead of facing the criminal charges and shame of being publicly outed, he went out and bought to grills, closed himself up in a room, sealed it off with him and his suicide letters inside, and waited to die.
He had not only been filming his fiancee's sister in various states of undress (which is entitled and disturbed in and of itself), but also filming her lover while they had sex. It takes a fairly sick individual to think about that, much less to take all the actions required to pull it off (placing the cameras, watching who comes and goes, hitting the record button and putting in new video tapes).
Who knows what else he did aside from that, this is just what drove him to suicide (because he was too much of a coward to face the consequences of his actions).

The fact that there were so many years between albums shows that making money was not the only motivation for them, but to make the BEST music they could. Brad has an amazing voice and Tom Scholz is the genius soundmeister who crafted their sound. Their first album was made almost entirely in Tom's basement (except for the last song on the album "Let me take you home tonight" which was actually recorded in a studio) which shows how talented these guys were.
What a man. Sheesh. Depression is a F****r. What a complete tragedy we no longer have this guy and, to a lesser extent, his golden voice. Boston changed my life. I wish it could have saved his.

I remember when the first Boston album came out, how different it sounded from other rock music of the time. Those soaring guitar riffs and Brad Delp's vibrant voice hitting those highs. Even then we seemed to know right away that this band was causing shock waves through the music industry.
