You do know that this is the very same room
where Dave Smith showcased the Rev 2 six years ago on Synth Expert's channel in the video "Dave Smith talks about the Rev 2 (Part 1 of 3)"? He played the same synths you just did and some of them were his personal belongings since the 1970s!
DoctorMix why do you keep your vintage Prophet5 and don’t go for a new Prophet5 with SourfaceMount circuitry (we know why 😉)?!
Now please go to Studio Electronics in California (or Soma Electronics) and show to the world how an Omega8 (or lyra 8) a proper ThroughHole hand matched PolySynth is done with 4 legendary discreet filters (moog, sem, jupiter8, CS80) 8part multitimbral and they still manage to keep similar price of a modern prophet, by doing this you would be honest to the audience but especially TRANSPARENT in helping people to not be miss lead by marketing tricks.
the sad story is that the modern Sequential produce synths exactly in the same way with the same type of machinery like Behringer do (tho ask 5 time more than behringer) because Sequential has to pay corporate bonus to CEO etc.
People think that they buy Vintage Sequential quality but the sad story is that they buy beautiful boxes from outside with the same pcb / components like behringer inside, remember that the circuitry/components make the sound not the beautiful “wood panels and shiny knobs”.
Considering that Tom Oberheim is one of the last original pioneers in the synthesizer world, it’s incredible that you got a selfie with him, Doc. To the best of my knowledge, the only author or editor who I’ve read acknowledging that Oberheim paved the way for Dave Smith to create his own synthesizers is late Professor and Moog collaborator Herbert A. Deutsch. In a sonic sense, the SEM and Four Voice both helped pave the way for what would be the Prophet 5. Herb Deutsch made that clear in the 1985 edition of his textbook, Synthesis.
Just a kid in the candy store. Thanks for taking us along.
They say 'Money can't buy happiness', but ever since I bought a Prophet 10 I've been happy!
Absolutely fascinating video, A great company with a great team.
David Gibbons comment about the Prophet 5 & 10, was exactly my thought process - why have 5 notes of polyphony when you can have 10. I wanted to be able to play it like I play a piano.
07:13 Developing embedded software in C with Eclipse and debugging real-time functions with hardware pins, that's how it should be!
Claudio and Sequential team, many thanks for the insight into this cool company!
I had the honor of talking to Dave Smith on the phone 13 years ago when my Evolver failed . He sent me a free chip fix. Such a humble guy.
These tech people are like that, apart from people who exploit them.
Passionate about synthesizers and computer science (I also develop in C/C++), it's great that you were able to interview the person who programs the software part of the Prophet. He really has my dream job!
Regards to everyone.
This is literally where the magic happens!
I just had chills run down my spine seeing you actually meet, sit, and talk with Tom Oberheim! What an honor!
I've been there a few times 🎹🌉 R.I.P. Dave Smith 🙏🏼
The job of my dreams......❤
Awesome man!!! So glad you noticed it. The music took me 2 days to assemble, and my guys had already worked on this for MONTHS! It’s been a work of love snd sweat 😅 Thank you for your appreciation
16:57 This is exactly the way of making music that is really fun.❤😊👍👍👍👍
The non-menu synths are so much fun to play. Such a great idea of Dave to kill the screen.
RIP DAVE SMITH. Tom oberheims long lost brother. They are both yin and yang in the synth world. two goats. perfect duo to take the synth world by storm in the 70s. with moog shortly before em both. my first synth was a dx7 then i jumped up to a prophet 5 just a month after XD.
Tom Oberheim, a giant among giants.
Great video! It’s amazing to think that Sequential manufacturing is right on the city, they still do repairs in their office, it’s so old school. What a great team, Carson who featured in your video helped me pick a synth at the store Robot Speak nearby (I hope you visited) I’m not even a musician I’m just fascinated by synths and walked out with a prophet 6! Great to see Dave Smiths legacy continue particularly under new ownership, I wish this company all the best.
Thanks for posting such a great video.
Carson's demo of the Pro3 was awesome
Had the fortune of meeting Dave Smith before he passed. He signed my Prophet Module at their offices in SF. Very nice man, and an engineer for which I always had high regard as the father of Midi.
I REALLY REALLY loved this one!!! And Tom Oberheim was there!!!!! My main man!!!! Thanks so much Claudio!!! Great job!!!
Such a great video! I love your enthusiasm meeting Tom Oberheim & pure enjoyment of getting to lay hands on all those keys!! In front of Tom!!! Wow, what an incredible experience!!!! Thanx for the trip, it was perfect.
fascinating video, thanks for sharing your visit with us
I really like how your videos have become a continuous audio experience that feels seamless throughout. Everything from the channel related reminders like when you tell us to hit the like button, the transitions between scenes, and the background music that fits the tone of the interesting content on screen feel so well fitted together. The audio experience edited into your videos are feeling quite a step ahead of other channel's on RUclips these days. I've been a longtime subscriber and even longer viewer and I just love what your channel has become over the many years.
I'm really digging it, Doctor Mix!
Amazing man 🤘 Do you ACTUALLY realise that you’re making so much documented history in your content ? Your videos will be used as educational videos for our grand children, and generations to come. You make great footprints in history man - You are the best 😃😃😃
I appreciate that! Thanks man!
"Do you know when an instrument is good? - when it pulls the Music out of you?" these words are so true and wise. I can only confirm this, still since over 40 years of music. Thx, so much for letting us be a part of this interview and looking behind the curtains at one of the the best Synth manufacturers.
Yeah!!!
Wow! There is something about the Trigon that is really nice- amazing having Tom Oberheim in the room.
IF ONLY we could have a similar type of video about the Access Virus..
Still gorgeous synths after all these years.
@DoctorMix - At 13:42 it's Moon Cresta tune from the arcade machine, or home computers. You can't fool us at Radio 6581, we know our chip music. Love the fact that you briefly repaired C64 computers as we specialize in playing SID (Sound Interface Device) music for the C64. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm, energy, and knowledge with all things synth. Have a great day from Northern Ireland and Radio 6581.
10:48 It's like Carson says, "Play these two notes," and then he does!😂😅🤣
Fantastic video.
And some spacial melody 10 sec later. I cannot recall the name of the song, where it comes from, though I'm sure I heard it. Please Dave or someone help 😊
What a terrible thing that this video is only half an hour, it felt like five minutes thanks to your editing skills and the massive waves of informative contents, also geat that you featured the subscribing feature to your website to watch the whole interview, I didn't know that even that I'm subscribed to your RUclips channel for years, you're so lucky for HAVING LUNCH WITH TOM OBERHEIM, let that sink in...
*_Thanx Claudio, today is so much "ouhhh here", "wow ahhhh - there" ._*
Thanks for this. I love Sequential so much. My Trigon-6 is in every single song I can put it in these days.
13:52 that Trigon-6 patch sounds incredible. Like the sawtooth are literally burning. 🔥
You had me grinning ear to ear with water in my eyes and if you knew me you'd know that's odd, those sounds and getting to play in front of the guys...wow. This was so interesting as I like to see how things work and are made. What a great bunch of people at Sequential, so interesting and good to see them to put a human side to these dedicated people. I don't own a synth but would like to learn, I'm getting on in life and feeling the urge to splash out before I start loosing my mind although I don't know what to splash out on lol.
Passion and competence , I love doctor Mix ❤
Great to see the team and the space
Your energy is very smittening, Claudio! Always nice seeing you interact with people!
As if Tom Oberheim and that inside video would not be awesome enough, you gift me with your wonderful, positive and humble energy! Thank you so much
I was in *San Francisco* last month. I wish I had time to go visit there...
But there was a room fool of _Rhodes_ and _Wurlitzers,_ where I was, so that's OK! 😀
Мира, Добра и Здоровья всем пацакам!
Trigon-6 sounding awesome there!
Absolutely amazing vid. Thanks for the tour! "Meeting" Tom was such a treat. Made me think of my teens, trying out the Oberheim DMX and the Sequential TOM in local music stores. Dreamy and unattainable machines. Oh, and I signed up to see the interview just now.
This was really cool to see the factory. Tom Oberheim is super cool. I had the opportunity to chat with him on the phone once when he was servicing my MIDI SEM. He really loves to talk about synth tech.
I have been following you for many years and your content is just insanely getting better and better ! Since your last trip in L.A. you walk with legends !
Amazing Claudio, such an incredible video! So happy you were able to visit Sequential, and meet Tom as well! It's a magical place, thank you for sharing with us!
Dude this is so cool. I must get up there to that factory.... I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Oberheim in the lobby of the Mariott hotel in Burbank during Synthplex a couple of years ago and he was unbelievably generous with his time. Wonderful fellow. I am crazy about this video!!
My favortite moment : Tom Oberheim asking you to teach him playing keyboard. 😀😀😀
Very cool and fun from him.
You are lucky man to being able to meet him and making a long interview.
In fact it is full of interesting moments, you are meeting a lot of smart and cool guys.
And for sure the synths sound great.
DUDE, IT'S JUST LIKE AS IF OU MET SANTA CLAUSE HIMSELF! WOOHOOO!
Glad to have met Dave Smith at NAMM.
Shout out to Rigol for making good test gear.
Repair bench setup is proper!
A walk-through of Sequential including with these people present, wow!! Your playing was right on point - of course! So great to see their manufacturing still done locally - it's not normal now.
I am so envious that you met Tom Oberheim. He looks very cool. He and Dave Smith are two of my personal heroes. Thanks for the video.
I love this type of content. Factory visits, history of... Especially with Tom Oberheim thrown into the Mix!
Dude Met Theeee Tom Oberheim so coooooollll
This is absolutely amazing, interesting and cool! Loved to watch how synths are produced and the sound demo you made, the only thing missing on this video is Anthony Marinelli!!!
What a coincidence! I just started enjoying my Prophet Rev2 after ignoring it for a long time. My first polysynth was a Prophet 600 I bought used in the '90s, so I have a soft spot in my heart for Sequential Circuits.
10:53 Sounds like those are exactly why I’m itching to add a Prophet 10 to my arsenal. Nothing quite like it, especially with The Doc himself on Keys! 😎🙌🏼
Love the sound and vintage look of my OBX8 and Prophet 10.
This is pure gold for those of us synth-audio-music lovers. Thanks for creating this content!
The killer combos for me here were the OBX8 and Prophet-10 10:33 and the Trigon with the Prophet-6 14:15. P6 is the sweetest sound that is so musical and the P5 and P10 have been legends for decades for the same reason.
Every time I watch one of your videos like this, I learn a bit of music and synth history and I love it! Thank you so much for the education!
super cool. Nice they do all the servicing in-house in SF too
I worked for a small electronics manufacturer out of college in the 00s, and while the whole company would have fit in a fraction of sequential's production space, the production flow was substantially similar. Good techs are more precious than gold, especially final checkout, and I hope the designers and developers spend regular time collecting feedback from people working the production lines.
Fun fact, i actually went to san Francisco for a week but i was never able to find sequential, oh well…
Mad respect for these guys, i still have my dsi mopho x4
Fantastic! I love the fact my OBX8 is made in USA and in the same factory as P5. Italian designed keys is a nice bonus as well.
Seeing the big T and his magical smile made this from an amazing video to a treasure. Also seeing the factory made me happy about owning this instruments
Great rendez-vous !!! 😊
Tom Oberheim , wow!!. My dream is to own 1 Sequential Synth in my life. the factory is massive. Love it!!
Thank you for the experience of "behind the scenes" and hard work making this episode.
Very satisfying tour ( I'm sure the same with San Francisco Pizza).
Just as your last words on that video.....: I didn't expect this".
I love this tour and the love of the people for synthesizers who work there and of course you Claudio!
Claudio. You have such a terrific story and you’re so talented and knowledgeable. It makes me smile seeing you realizing your dreams! Everybody deserves that! ❤
Claudio sei il numero uno! Grazie per aver condiviso questa fantastica esperienza ❤️🙌🏼
Once again amazing... your channel is like a journey where one wonders how could it be topped. And whoop there it is! I mean I'm subscribed here for way more than 10 years now. It wasn't too long when it was hard to imagine a synth channel might reach 100k subscribers. But like that it's less of a wonder to see you at 720 k now (for those who read this later, march 2024). Not that long anymore until there's a million. That's huge. I don't know how many keyboarders there actually are in the world. But it seems almost everyone subscribed here, even Tom Oberheim...
Aww thank you for your kind words and for watching my stuff for such a long time 🎉
SENSACIONAL Doutor TOM Oberheim
Now that's a great content about Sequential !! cheers for this
Bravo, Claudio. And what a true gentleman, the Maestro Tom Oberheim. You are blessed to have met him.
🕺🙌🙏❤️
Would be great to hear what the future of Sequential holds without Dave, who is greatly missed. I think they can keep making the existing Prophets and Oberheims for a long time. But what, if anything, do they plan to make in the future? Also hope your interview with Tom will be on RUclips eventually.
This is too cool! And everyone there seems like the nicest people!
For some reason I imagined these synths being made in a small garage somewhere. Boy was I wrong!
Great episode! My first analogue synth was DSI Mopho 💛💙
Grande Claudione!
My Sequential Pro 3 SE is by far my favorite synth. BTW when I got mine new, it was defective, and Dave Smith Synths sent me a new main board to swap out myself. Took only about 15 minutes and running great now. I think they issued a recall on this particular problem.
excellent, especially the factory part! Prophet X still in production ;-)
Super video, very interesting, certainly explains the price point, lots of operating costs here. Would be interesting to see a similar video for Behringer, it must be fully automated or something.
Excellent video it was very exciting to see inside a Synthesizer factory.
Great tour Dr Mix love it all the best
They’re all amazing
awesome video, meeting mr oberheim must have been just so thrilling! :)
but also a big shout out to midi-ox, as seen at the end of the video. this has been one of the most powerful tools since 20..25 years or so, and although it has been discontinued several years ago and there is no comparebel alternative around yet (afaik), i am happy that it is still possible to use it.
Absolutely superb video….very comprehensive of a great, successful corporation. And to have Tom Oberheim there was the icing on the cake. The only thing (impossibly) that would have made it better would be if Dave Smith were there. Great video, Dr.Mix !! Keep up the good work….
Selfie and discussion with Tom Oberheim!?! I am so jealous!
Awesome to see Mr. Oberheim.
You had some deep and tasty sounds going on in that demo room, Dr.
If this encourages the next generation to get into electronics and programming, it's all good.
love seeing the Prophet X still being made in the factory. sold my PXL a few years ago, to help buy a P10. thinking about getting a PX again though.
What a great video! Thanks!!! And meeting this sweet humble legend Mr Tom Oberheim...oh man....that´s like meeting Herbie, Chick or Joe Z. What an honour and joy it must have been for you. 💚😊
i am a purchasing engineer in an electronic manufacturing company, i actually purchase electronic components etc... for me the manufacturing part of the video is so familiar...(SMD lines, TH components, reels...)... the best part of the video is when you see a maestro with the final product in his hands a making marvellous music... Sequencial workers must be very proud...
Good morning
Dr mix in the house !!!!!!!!!!
thanks so mush for this video Dr Mix
Have a great day
Wow, I am living out some of my boyhood dreams through you with your recent videos. Anthony Marinelli and now this. Incredible! I've been subscribed for a long time and your videos just keep on getting better. You must be (should be) really proud of yourself Doctor Mix.
Loved this tour thanks dr mix
I like that you played that intro from Earth wind & fire. Ive listened on that many times on the Heritage record.
You are a very lucky man being able to meet Tom Oberheim, playing some music for him, getting an interview, seeing how all those keyboards are made, AND coming to America and San Francisco. How many keyboards did you go home with??🤪🤪 Great Video!! Keep them coming!!
Very cool video. Not only seeing you, the sequential team, and Tom, but also the assembly of all the components.
