The way she leans her head on him when riding the horse, my ❤️
I must have missed that. When was it?
@@Judge-19644:58
Saw that too, character development.
@@Judge-1964 just right at the end of the video
Also notice how at the dam Ellie tells Joel that he could lie to her about how it worked and she would have believe him, and by the end he tells her everybody loved contractors 🥺
"Everybody loved contractors" and then that smile... omg this show is so good
I don't get how people credit the show with so much when it's almost shot for shot from the game, but less impactful because there's not the investment of actually playing it. It's not like the showrunners came up with any of the script or nuances, or acting cues. It was all already done.
@@Terminxman the actors did a good job of expressing it, and no, the show was not "almost" shot for shot. In fact, it was so not "almost" shot for shot that every gamer gremlin wouldn't stop complaining about it because for some reason they wanted the same 1 to 1 thing.
if you like the game and feel like it offers a better way to be a part of the story, hey, that's good for you, but it 's weird when you judge others for how they like it.
"Everybody loved contractors"
Joel casually spewing revisionist history to Ellie 😂
That shit was so funny to me!
Its even better because it comes after her telling him "you could've just made something up" earlier in the episode.. she would never be able to tell if hes lying about something pre outbreak.
Ellie not even letting him finish that sentence "Let's Go" She's so scared and trusts Joel so much
It’s the throwing of the bag in his hands and his “okay” for me 😂😂😂😍
And the “are you gonna shoot it or get it pregnant?” THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD
And the look on his face after she said it
That little shrug he does after bull's eyeing the target like "see? Nothing to it kid" is so precious. As a parent, genuinely impressing your child with your skills has got to be one of the greatest feelings in the world.
I really think they cast these two perfectly.
They did. :People who complain that they don't look exactly like they do in the game are missing the point. Joel and Ellie's relationship is the whole point of the story and it doesn't work if they didn't get the right actors with the right chemistry together. And they definitely got the right ones, because Pascal and Ramsey are just note perfect together.
They could’ve done better with the casting, but they’re alright.
Bella Ramsey sucks...
@@anthonylaspina9524 lol who’s the alternative that would have been better cause you work in casting for hbo
@@jaredplantulli4288 Uhhh, I don’t, but I think Josh Brolin would’ve been great as Joel and Massie Williams as Ellie and Gerard Butler as Tommy. IMO.
aw his subtle smile when Ellie lays her head on his back is so natural and sweet.
"you deserve a choice" has so much more meaning after the ending. She does deserve a choice and no one gave it to her. (that being said, I personally think joel did nothing wrong)
I’m one of the few that agrees with you. I always try and remain as logical as possible with big decisions. With that being said I still don’t judge Joel, he made the very human decision.
Interesting you say he did nothing wrong. To honest I'm not sure how I feel about what he did. On the one hand I think anyone would've done the same thing in that situation, protecting family, which is what she basically is to him at that point, always comes first. That being said, "did nothing wrong" is maybe a bit too lenient. Murderering the entire hospital, including the one doctor who could maybe come up another way to get the vaccine, not to mention who only defended himself with tincy knife is maybe going too far. And even if there wasn't another way to make the vaccine, if Joel maybe only knocked out the doctor and killed everyone else, that would've been a slightly better decision. After Ellie woke up, I'm 100% sure if given choice she would've said yes to the procedure.
(Me too)
@@JustStaringOutWindow majority of the players agree that joel did the right thing only a handful of people say hes wrong and think he did it for selfish reasons and base on the games lore he definitely did the right thing the fireflies especially jerry the pretentious doctor are nuts there is no vaccine for fungal infection much as a cure for this kind of infection considering it mutates too fast for a cure to work and even if ellie is really the cure in a hypothetical scenario killing her is the worst decision to be made and its bad enough that marlene is guilt tripping joel and threw him like a trash after all the effort he did to bring ellie
Also, Joel taking away Ellie's choice was more of a consequence than a conscious decision on his part. Unlike Marlene who straight up decided to murder her in a calculated way without giving her a choice. All Joel had on his mind was saving his girl from being murdered.
When joel told ellie that she deserve having a choice, ellie was not hesitate at all to choose joel, and she just interrupted joel's speaking😅
he laughs when he said everybody loved contractors🤣
She did say (not in these exact words but) even if it's a lie, she'll believe Joel, so him saying that to her and then him smiling because of it, was extremely heartwarming 🙏🏼
I liked that they added the scene where he shows her how to shoot. It happened earlier in the game when they're in the city, but by putting it here, it explains how she's able to hunt when Joel is injured. The game just throws you into it, and you're like "Okay, somewhere along the line, Ellie learned hunting. I guess I'll just go with it."
The thing what the show did better then the game is actually teaching Ellie how to shoot. Joe didn’t actually teach Ellie how to shoot in the game, he taught her to handle the gun, didn’t actually teach her to shoot, she was just really good at shooting lol.
@@Tradetek1
Yeah lol. From BBs to a full on rifle 😅
I’ve said it once and say it again. Bella Ramsey is killing it as Ellie. All the naysayers can simply Eff off. She is owning it. Same with Pedro.
Bella is amazing at Ellie and I love her.
I agree, Bella killed it
She is a phenomenal actress. Love her!
Any doubts I had about her (didn't have many to be fair) completely faded away after the suicide scene. She completely nails this role
Joel casually explaining Ellie his average Joe job as if they were famous Hollywood celebs back then 😁
“Everybody loved contractors 😁”
"The Contractor", love it.
Evidently, Joel had a very particular set of skills.
@@thecowboy9698skills that make him a blessing to punks wanting to do some building
I know this is about the stars Joel and Ellie but I am really liking this version of Tommy and Joel too. Theres so much more love and tenderness between them in this series. I really liked Tommy's wholesome smile when he sees Joel telling Ellie to mind her manners. Doesn't need any exposition. You know he already sees what Ellie means to Joel. The talk just showed him how much she meant to him.
4:00 the cinematography and soundtrack from the game 🥹👌🏽it’s beautiful. I got goosebumps the first time seeing it.
I love that sound track so much, but I had a strong feeling they would put The Path (New Beginning) in a middle of an episode so much for using it at the end of the season.
Seriously man. That was incredible. This show is something else
@@jessedellross3245 The game is something else...
The show is a lot weaker version of it.
That shot looks like it would make a great finale ending shot with credits rolling and slowly fading to black as they disappear into the horizon
@@Hear.myvoice We're just talking purely about the show though, not comparing it to the game
"You gonna shoot this thing or get it pregnant?"
MY GOSH, that line had me laughing so hard! Ellie is too adorable!'😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can really tell they love each other in this episode. It's heartwarming. I love this show.
You can see I’m her eyes when tommy walks in that for a second she really believed it would be Joel
This scene was done so well especially the bedroom scene Bella knocked it out of the park I got emotional and her seeing Tommy walk through the door thinking it was gonna be Joel saying goodbye just shows how much they have bonded
Also when she goes you gonna shoot this thing or get it pregnant 🤣🤣
“Yeah, we’re cool. People love contractors.” Lol
I didn’t notice Ellie resting her head in Joel 🥺
That scene where Joel teaches Ellie how to shoot a rifle is reminiscent to a promotional art for the Last of Us game.
I love how they made a scene in the showed base on it. They also added a bunch of campfire scenes like the other concept art of Joel and Ellie laughing around a campfire.
Rick grimes: "i was a sheriff"
Joel miller: "i was a contractor"
4:32 "Neither, I just did my job"
This really sums up Joel I think. Also, when people try and debate whether Joel was right or wrong to save Ellie in the final episode, I look back to his similar mindset here. His job was basically to protect Ellie, so that's what he did. He never even entertained any deeper thoughts about the future of mankind, ethics, etc after finding out Ellie was about to be murdered.
When you present the choice between the fate of the world and the life of your baby girl to a simple man just trying to make his way in the apocalypse, we all know what he's going to choose.
He was gearing up for a whole conversation and she just immediately gives him her bag without a second thought. this whole show makes me wanna cry
The last line "Everybody loved contractors" so good.
Bella Ramsay is so cute as Ellie
She looks like the daughter from Hereditary. The scariest part of the movie. Still gives me flashbacks. 😧
She's too cute
Nice how they adapted that concept art of Joel teaching Ellie how to use the rifle into a scene
"Everybody loved contractors" Joel finally taking advantage of the fact that Ellie said he could say anything and she would believe him
Joel and Ellie obviously great, but Gabriel as Tommy also nailed it 💕
The expectation she has when tommy knocks and the sadness in her eyes when she sees is not Joel 😢
3:15 this whole exchange is so gentle and paternal I love it so much
This show is so good, man. This scene is probably my favourite. So much chemistry between these two.
Brought tears to my eyes! The Path & The Choice are my favorite soundtracks from the game and of all time... Santaolalla magic + incredible filmmaking 🖤🎸🐴
@Ching Vang yesssir! exactly
wish they kept it for the ending tho, it's what made the game's ending so special to me
@@blur4916 they did use it in the ending
I heard the first cords of The Path (A New Beginning) and started bawling my eyes out, can't explain how much I love this show
They just had to put The Path to play it, god it fucking hit me good in this episode. I don't know if the acting was that good or I'm not that good myself these days, but I cried as fuck.
It was an emotional episode if you love the game, the combination of the music and acting hit me in the feels. I usually don’t cry from movies or tv shows, but a couple of tears rolled down my face in this one. Joel finally letting his emotions show, really hit me hard.
They used it at the wrong time 😭 save it for the end
@@noachlive It was prefect to use it here and then we hear it again at the very end as Joel lies in her face and sets them down a path where they will never be as close as the path they were on in this scene when we hear it for the first time. It was such an evil thing to do in this show, I loved it.
the music after he hits the target.... flashback's before my eyes 😢
Love how Tommy called him out about the horse!
She looked so sad when it wasn’t Joel walking through the door.
Omg I absolutely love this scene, makes me want to play the game again and again.
This show is something else. God I love this series so much. Every week it's getting better and I'm always looking forward to every new week's episode. Only 3 episodes left and I will enjoy it even more! This episode was once again superb!
I always loved the farewells and how they switched it up with Tommy saying "adios big brother"
Knowing how iconic the bedroom scene is and having watched it many times i think makes it really weird when I watch it here. Still good adaptation.
@@chingvang9320 that's a very game-like scenario. That was well fitted into a gameplay narrative. Won't really be effective in the show scenario because how can Ellie even sneak out and steal a horse from a community with huge walls and patrols all around?
@@snoopball usually you don't expect someone to steal a horse and run off away from the safe haven into the crazy apocalypse world especially a little girl it's something that catches you off guard
@@TheSilentT12 but it wouldn't be possible. Who is gonna let her out of the gates? They are locked and guarded.
His face when he hits the target 😂❤❤❤❤
I LOVED THIS SCENE!!!!!
He was so happy teaching her how to shoot, and I love at the end she leans her head into his back while riding the horse, more expression from both characters than the game….well In a different way anyways. Love both versions
I gave Drunkman a lot of shit for TLO2's plot, but this series has been a straight-up masterpiece. I really can't criticize what he and Craig have done in bringing this story to TV screens and a whole new audience. well done.
Its just more deconstruction and retconning from Drunkmann. Don't be fooled.
@@Hero_Of_Old And it's for the better
My man Maizin. He's bringing so much more realism and nuance to the story. Filling in so many plot holes, silliness, and inconsistencies from the games story. Bringing that Chernobyl style of realism to the series.
whoever hated the story/plot of pt2...
then prepare to shit yourselfs all over again...
for when season 2 arrives y'all know what's coming & who's coming for who....
Drunkmann??? for real homie??
You people still can't fucking mature...calling people names ...grow up homes...
@@The.Authority... I think Maizin will improve that story tenfold. He's been bringing all these interesting and more believable parts to get to key parts in this series. The worst part of Part 2 is the plot contrivance. Like a really long soap opera. Maizin will write more believable circumstances that get us there. That shit was comedy writing for how to get to that part in the game.
"You deserve a choice" hasn't aged well here
"You gonna shoot this thing or get it pregnant?"
The sass! I love it!
@@gozerthegozarian9500 And then when he nails the shot, he looks so smug.
Ellie is Mrs. No Filter
Probably Bella's only line in the show that actually made me laugh and not cringe

I freaking love this show

The Path (A New Beginning) from the game OST!!! This makes me so happy
I love the credits theme in the game so I’m glad they put it in the show
ellie now becomes joels baby girl
Stop! Do not say that or do that to a person's heart. 💔💔🧇
"You gonna shoot this thing or get it pregnant?" SGSHJSSH-
Tommy's voice! Just like in the game.. wow
Thought I was the only one that noticed lol. He's got the exact vocal inflections and all, same with Bella's "WTF!" line from episode 1 which was 100% Ellie. Perfect casting.
in the game it was joel that told him “adios little brother”
I knew the soundtrack while they were riding the horse was familiar. It’s used in the ending credits of the game. The game has such a good soundtrack
4:00 simplemente hermoso
Joel told Ellie they aren't family but then he changed his mind it seems like they share a special bond as father and daughter
4:00 this montage brought to you by the Wyoming Office of Tourism
this was a really good, entertaining episode. Might have been my favorite yet.
From playing the game millions and millions times over I finally watched it and man oh man 😢 I love it
shes his baby
Music in this tv show is something else. By the way, their ride shown here is one of my favourite scenes.
The chemistry between these two was so good! Can't wait for the story to continue, just hope we get more of them before you know who starts swinging the golf clubs
1:16-1:17 you see the ever so small hint of the corners of her mouth start to curve into a smile before she instantly slams the bag into his chest.
This choice, really of Joel’s, not Ellie’s, is what cements their relationship and accelerates his healing.
Everyone loooves Contractors. Until you actually needed them. They are pretty neat though.
3:33 best scene ever! Lmao!!
when The Path started playing i felt something else i swear
So many sweet call backs to TLOU2.
Tommy looks like john snow in that snow
This scene had a lighter heart, and I appreciated that, because I could feel how the two of them were finally able to let some of the perpetual horror of their world go for a few moments and almost share a genuine laugh.
"cuz maria took mine, y'know?"
"i already saif yes, joel."
BROTHERS
That was my favourite line❤
She didn't even hesitate
Im a contractor and I can tell you everyone does love us... for our money
man not really a big moment but when joel and tommy hug and that theme starts playing i just get a little emotional
True it’s a deep scene ❤
Joel had a talk with ellie, after trying to make decision for her, and in the end, he realized he needed to respect her decision as well.
This is exactly what i would imagine him to do in the end of the story if he could have an honest talk with ellie before she got on the operating table. He loves her, he would respect her choice and let her make her own decision, with a heavy heart of course, but i believe he would let it happen if he had a chance for some closure.
Yeah, Marlene took away Ellie's choice and Marlene then left Joel with no choice but to rescue her from being murdered. Whether Joel was truthful with Ellie or not, it was going to be a terrible outcome either way for their future.
Basically, Marlene ruined everything by setting off the whole sequence of events by being utterly inhumane towards Ellie.
Another child figure of Pascal’s character chooses him over going their separate ways.
They love him too much to Let him go just like that 😆
i love them
The song "The Path" by Santaolalla 😭
Most ppl love the game and the series so much since it’s probably the most accurate depiction of how ppl’s lives will unfold after a total post apocalyptic event. I fucking love this series! And the Henry episode made me cry like a new born baby!
3:49 "another lesson, don't slam your optics against something! Whether your scope or binoculars!!! Take care of your tools and your gear and they will take care of you."

I don’t remember Joel Doxxing some poor bastard.
Enjoy this type of Ellie with puns and "contractor" things because this trait won't last 🔥🔥
Deeply traumatic events will do that to you.
I love this show. Thank you HBO.
There are very very few castings as purely perfect as these two actors. -C
The way the target said as$hole😂😂😂😂
I thought it was strange how Joel and Ellie just moved past their fight so quickly I suppose that’s how kids deal with conflict? And Joel was also eager to move on. But I guess the show thought it wasn’t worth to spend more time on another fight or it wasn’t in their characters to duke it out again.
Listen to the podcast, they explain this part of the episode. It is great to listen to it after watching each episode😁👍
She wanted to be with him and was hopeful it was Joel when she heard the door knock and saw Tommy. Joel wanted was happy to be with her too. The fight was just a defense mechanism to protect themselves anyway.
In the game they moved past their argument after a quick fight with Infected, so the show actually did it more realistically

They had the best opportunity to make this scene even better, if Joel put a bullet hole through "O", but no they blew it.
I think it's great for one reason
