Still listening in 2024. Still collecting the same song from the band and from other artists. Everyone even seems unique to their own style. The more I listen to this song the more I want to this song.
These dudes are like fine wine. They get better with age! The absolute best version of this song was in denmark over 10 years ago. Awesome on steroids.
It's hard to put into words what this song means to me. There are things in life that words can not explain; It just has a huge impact in your mind, in your heart and in your soul.
I was at this show and our seats were almost in the exact same location of the person who recorded this. Despite having heard this song more than 500 times since it was issued on May 12, 1967, it never fails to tug at my heart.
I've seen them live with Dad. And I was blown away by Gary's voice and of course the sharp wit and great chemistry with the band. Happy Birthday 🎂🥳🎉 to the best father anyone can ever ask for. ❤ Moments like the ones we shared are forever. Thank you to Procol Harum.
Gary still sounding great 50 years on and the lads still entertaining us as good as ever - true artists and agree with many other comments - on of the truly great songs of all time - but no one will ever match the PH boys version passion and artistry - sheer class😜Thanks for sharing👌

Garry Brooker is the most fantastic artist of my time, my dream in life would be to meet him, and say thank you for all you have done for me and thousands of other people growing up to fantastic music like this. God bless him.
I never get tired of listening to this song. This was the song that played when my now husband and I were on our first date. I never understood the lyrics but I love the music, very haunting. I know this song on the first note. Gary Brooker has a great voice.
A Whiter Shade of Pale (with the 2 very rare extra verses) We skipped the light fandango turned cartwheels 'cross the floor I was feeling kinda seasick but the crowd called out for more The room was humming harder as the ceiling flew away When we called out for another drink the waiter brought a tray And so it was that later as the miller told his tale that her face, at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale She said, 'There is no reason and the truth is plain to see.' But I wandered through my playing cards and would not let her be one of sixteen vestal virgins who were leaving for the coast and although my eyes were open they might have just as well've been closed She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,' though in truth we were at sea so I took her by the looking glass and forced her to agree saying, 'You must be the mermaid who took Neptune for a ride.' But she smiled at me so sadly that my anger straightway died If music be the food of love then laughter is its queen and likewise if behind is in front then dirt in truth is clean My mouth by then like cardboard seemed to slip straight through my head So we crash-dived straightway quickly and attacked the ocean bed
I agree.... I was fortunate to see them live .. in an outdoor concert....... it was an even more beautiful experience... it just creeps into your heart and soul ..... and remains long after
The haunting and familiar Hammond organ intro to this song is what makes it legendary. I first learned how to play the organ with this song by heart......with my girlfriend next to me who played the chord and I played the solo. Today, that girlfriend is now my wife and grand parents to 18 grand children!
I love Procol Harum. I want to meet Mr. Gary Brooker. God bless You Mr. Gary Brooker. Thank You so much for your song "a Whiter Shade of Pale. I love your song.
Also the first time i have heard a guitar solo in this beautiful timeless song. The vocals sound as good as they did 50 years ago. Booker you are timeless, thank you for this beautiful song. Peace and love!!!
Incredible sound amazing song best ever or one of the best stood the test of over half a century what a sound live truly one of the best ever live versions of any song ever sang love it grew up with this sound this guy has a gifted voice all these years God bless you sir thank you
I am so glad he included the fabulous "shore leave ... mermaid" verse! I don't whether the melody line, instrumental arrangement, vocal performance, or lyrics are this song's greatest strength. All come together beautifully. Even more impressive is that this was the band's inaugural release. What a start!
Wow, that’s amazing, 50 years and he still has it in him, that sounded just as good as it did when he sung it back in 1967, awesome job my friend, I really enjoyed watching this.
IT IS MY FAVOURITE SONG through all the years and played it enough in groups during those years ago also.....miss it, miss the musicians who are gone now before me but when I hear this number, it all comes back to me and I kind of feel "young" again...IT is a magical number is it not???
What Wonderful!!!!!! hear 'A Wither Shade of Pale´, i hear this song since i was a child .....and don't tired heeart it !!!!!!! Thank you very much Gary Brooker.
Amazing voice, throat, craineum, providing resonance for all the resonant frequencies we hear on these songs, my favorite is No More Fear of Flying. Love this guy, musically definitely a favorite.
It’s such a great song, it can’t ever be performed better or equal to the original recording which was total perfection, so any live rendition will always fall short, even by these amazing musicians. Considering the limitations of recording studios in 1967 it has to be probably the greatest recorded song ever in history. Lennon was right. A masterpiece above all masterpieces !!
Its not sad, This is song is for meditation, spiritual, and it take you to another dimension!!! Listen this: ruclips.net/video/TFJbwclK_1U/видео.html; it is the Procul Harum´extended version, SUPERMASTERPIECE!!!
My mother past away july 7th i picked this song for here service, I got really emotional when it played but found it to help me heal. Ty Gary for this song
His voice pretty much sounds exactly the same since 50 or so years ago when this song was made. Astounding. Very few acts that were around then who could literally sound like they did now
Lucky I've found out this singer (RIP) with a beautiful song sung beautifully by the writer singer of this redemption Gary Brooker! Sad to learn he just passed away this year but his legacy will remain forever! RiP man!
R.I.P. Gary-the enigma of the British youth of 1960's-70's and how they brought in a restless revolution that would go and shake the whole world both for the good and the bad...I hope, history proves it was mostly for the good, lovely solo guitar starting 6;25
Back in the early 70's, every high school dance was a pattern of a few fast songs then a slow one. This song would fill up the dance floor. Young bodies pressed together, swaying in the near darkness.
.... what a privilege to be there .... love this band ...especially their live album with the Edmonton Symphony O .... still have the old vinyl edition ... and bought the 40th anniversary remastered edition ... a few years ago ....
This song is way before my time, but I love music from era's before I was born. I've heard this song from time to time and must say it is a gem. I have compared his vocals from this performance to one from long ago and wow! He sounds great!
Erin Evans I agree. Paul's voice is on a higher octave and singers who have higher octave have to strain harder to hit those notes, thus the decline in the latter years of their careers. Don't get me wrong I would listen to Paul play in heart beat!
Did some heavy duty rockin to these good ol boys back in the day...A truly awe inspiring band...I remember the guitar work of this man on stage to "Simple sister" original recording ...the way the guitar work was layered and built to a glorious climax was and is awesome too...Ty for all the yrs of fine music you have provided!
On the recent PBS series on the Vietnam war a lot of rock songs were used as background music - Dylan, the Stones, Beatles, Wilson Pickett, many others. The most powerful song, though, was Whiter Shade of Pale, which played during the credit roll at the end of the 7th of the 10 segments. This episode was particularly sad, when the war was turning absurdly bad. I was in tears when the song came one, totally surprised. I served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971, but was sent to Germany instead of Vietnam. We had to deal with the war continually, though, because we could be sent there at any time, and we were told stories about what happened there by guys who had come back. I never would have thought of Whiter Shade of Pale as a theme for the sadness of this war, but as the credits rolled and the song played on it was cathartic. A great song for all time.
Is anyone listening to this masterpiece in late 2021?
The voice is smooth as ever.
2024 in the house!!! RIP Gary.
Still listening in 2024. Still collecting the same song from the band and from other artists. Everyone even seems unique to their own style. The more I listen to this song the more I want to this song.

I am 73 and I STILL can't hear this enough and I always cry, it is so gobsmackingly delicious. Thank you, so very much, Gary, et al.

Incredible that he could still hit those high notes on key at 72 years old.

Just amazing!
"A Whiter Shade of Pale is the most beautiful song I ever heard.
I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it never ages. Always sound unique.
I had to turn mid-forties to realize the brilliance of the song. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

A Whiter Shade of Pale
(with the 2 very rare extra verses)
We skipped the light fandango
turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
but the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
as the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink

And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale
She said, 'There is no reason
and the truth is plain to see.'
But I wandered through my playing cards
and would not let her be
one of sixteen vestal virgins
who were leaving for the coast
and although my eyes were open
they might have just as well've been closed
She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
and forced her to agree
saying, 'You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.'
But she smiled at me so sadly
that my anger straightway died
If music be the food of love

and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
and attacked the ocean bed
John Lennon once said .....its the most beautiful song he ever heard.
Fred Deschoff Lennon actually played it over and over constantly in his limo when it came out..
is the same melodic structure of Mind Games
And he was right!!!
It truly is the most beautiful song I ever heard. Though after 50 odd years.
On his turntable in the Rolls! :)
They just don't make music like this anymore!! Love it and it's a classic...wow kids today don't know they missed!!
I agree.... I was fortunate to see them live .. in an outdoor concert....... it was an even more beautiful experience... it just creeps into your heart and soul ..... and remains long after
The melody is as beautiful now as it always was. Haunting. Probably my favorite song ever!

My personal favorite for many many years, since high school.
Still remember this on the radio when I was a teenager - thought it sounded like a hymn, not a rock song. Blew us away!
Excellent. I am committed to this song. It represents my youth and expectations. My respects to Procol Harum. Make peace, not war, my friends.
Incredible. After 50 years the Commander still has it. Fantastic performance of one of my favourite songs.

Absolutely the greatest!!! His voice is remarkable. I will miss him. Thanks for the music Gary may your soul find rest in the Lord.
Sad that Keith Reed is mostly forgotten. Strange, too, that such an odd, perplexing lyric would captivate so many. I am among them.
I never was a fan of this song when I was younger but now at the age of 58 I've grown to appreciate it's beauty
Wow - still gives me goosebumps 52 years on - a true classic.
50 years long a go
