Been out of camping for a while now. Immersed in my obsession with gardening. Sure was nice to come back and watch this video. Going to stay subscribed. You live the life Shug. Take care buddy.
I don’t know why I get such a laugh out when you say early (EARLY) but I do! Does me good seeing you in the snowy woods, especially with that fire. Glad to hear that you’re shoulder is on the mend nicely! Take care brother.
Another great video Shug. The more of your video's I watch the more I enjoy them and appreciate you. You always bring a smile to my face and make my day brighter. Thank You!
Great advice on setting the snow stakes, plus a look at the stove setup, tools & attire. Looks like it was nice out there. The viewers can understand what it feels like with the wet glove advice & things that don't freeze all up so easy. I bet keeping batteries warm & power up is plenty a challenge. Fine knowledge passed along here.
I enjoy living life vicariously through Shug's winter camping videos. I have camped out in the hot and the cold in my younger years but I was born set in my ways and if I don't get that hot shower every morning, I am miserable the rest of the day. I admire people that are not like that. Keep up the good work Shug!
Love all your adventures but I really appreciate when you go out in the winter. There's something about the snow and cold that appeals to me. Thanks for sharing. Take care and have a good one.
58 yrs and have done bikepack solos in summer/ early fall. Would like to solo in winter. Will try out my gear at home first. I like what you said about confidence in your gear and backyard is the place to start building confidence. Good to see you back in action. Thanks for all your vids.
Loved your statement about winter not being a time to think about weight. Amen to that!!!!! Loved the video too Shug. Thank you for the great content! ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️🏕️🏕️🏕️🏕️
Shug, out of all the similar videos out there, your videos of your woodland promenade are the videos I look forward watching to. The energy you bring to your videos is off-beat, sensible and most especially, fun. Many thanks and Merry Christmas (in advance). All secure in sector 7!!
Have to say that was the only fire on a solo trip I can remember. Been watching for 7 years now I think. Still love watching. Winter camping is definitely my favorite winter past time.
I just wanted to thank you for all your videos. I know it must be allot of work to make them but I really appreciate them. They have been a source of inspiration and believe me I need to be inspired at age 67. Thanks!!!
Fun to see the gear and methods you use in winter. The inreach makes a lot of sense to me. Great tool for a trek in winter or a remote or unfamiliar area. As always, thanks for taking us along with you.
Another terrific outing. I loved it. I loved the details you gave about any number of things to consider when cold-weather camping. The campsite you picked was simply awesome!
Thanks for another great video to entertain myself with while working nights (and free time at home). Been using a lot of your ideas and gear recommendations to improve my 4 season hammocking experiences (mostly Hammockgear quilts and tarps, but also a fancee feest!). Great info... I never get bored of re-watching old videos either.
Great videos, Shug! Next weekend I'll be doing a solo (not sure if there will be snow) with my brand new Blackbird XLC. My first hammock, and my thanks to you and the Marine for all your excellent videos. You helped tremendously in my decision making process. I'm going to order the zero degree Wookie, but first I need to know which direction I sleep in as I'm a left side sleeper. Brandon suggested I sleep in it before ordering which I think is a great idea. I'm going out where I can bail out the the truck if things go horribly wrong. Don't expect that, but you're a great teacher and I've been paying attention! At 62, I'm just too old to sleep on the ground much anymore and hammocks sound divine! I'm going to use a sleeping pad and a couple of wool blankets in place of an underquilt along with some reflectix. Solo hiking is mostly how I get out in the woods and I'm looking forward to doing some backpacking this year. Nice to know at my age I can still do this. I was up at 10,000 feet on Mt Charleston about 8 weeks ago at a 3,000 year old bristlecone pine we call Raintree. We don't know what it calls itself! :) Cheers, and thanks!
So thankful for the latest series and now this snowlo trip. I’m going to do a winter solo this January at Dolly Sod in WV. You’ve given me the confidence!Tested my gear in the backyard and I’m ready.
Shug - I’m gonna do my first solo overnight trip down here in balmy Alabama next weekend...won’t be a snowlo in all likelihood - but a plain ol’ solo. Loved the video - my 8 year old liked it too. Whoo Buddy!
Shug, another great video. Even though I've been winter camping for more than 40 years in New England, I always seem to learn something new from your adventures. That being said, I would like to offer a tip -- wrapping the aluminum shafts of your shovel with hockey tape (or athletic tape) will make a world of difference in reducing the conductive heat loss, even if you do have gloves on. Hope this is helpful. Keep those videos coming! - Wayne
This was a real cool laid back snowy cold adventure video. I don't think I would enjoy those temps. I slept in the teens once and maybe never again. Thanks for taking us along wit ya.
The how and why you do what you do is really helpful. Been camping 5 decades hammock camping late 1990s. Started with a WW2 jungle hammock. Watching your vids helped me upgrade my kit. Just bought a DD ultralight hammock system. Did DIY over years which worked fine. Always luv your humor. Later brother.
I love your videos!! Thank you for your part about being a solo and hiking with confidence! That’s me too! I don’t have snow because I live in the desert near the PCT. So I love watching you in the snow!
Yes I wish I was there. Nothing beats winter camping, though I am a teardrop camper and not a hammocker. Thank you for the new video, looks so peaceful.
Awesome practical application of the winter camping methods you provided in earlier videos. The "Leave No Trace" is earning mad respect! Also, thanks for the link to the saw
Glad to see you again in the piney woods. Had back surgery on December 5th and recovery has not been fun, These are a great distraction from what so far has been a tough recovery. Having to reevaluate my whole kit to try and get to a weight that I can carry post recovery, not sure I'll get there but if not I always have this channel 😊
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I watched it in its entirety as I ate my dinner, solo, on my warm sofa, in its entirety. 😁 Thank you for enabling me to live vicariously through your experiences.
Thanks for the note on the wet wipes too. Becoming a big concern the paper and non degradable wipes being left in our wilderness. It's gross, yes. But pack it out! Appreciate your commitment to leave no trace.
Good fun Shug, thanks for taking us along. I just spent a couple nights in my tent with the Scouts winter camp, camp icycle but it was hovering above and below freezing, not as cold as you had!
Another great video! Fun, educational, beautiful cinematography, and comedy! Thank you for putting these videos for us to enjoy inside Warm and Cozy..WHHOOOOO BUDDY!!!

Hey Shug your making me miss winter camping, -26 f was my coldest, that was tent life. Hammocks are so much better for worn-out old men, been listening and I am getting some cold weather, thanks for your advice
Hey Shug, thanks for the great winter solo and lots of tested info and tips. --- And now the other thing: I am so glad that I finally hear from another human being that he hears voices in the running water of a small stream! No joking, I realized that this happened to me on my first solo trip up in Norway. I was getting ready for the night up in the mountains and I was sure I could hear other people coming up the trail, even though it was practically far too late for anyone to still be hiking . When I would focus on the voices, I could hear nothing at all. Then when I went on with some sort of distraction, map reading etc. suddenly I could hear them again. Focus, and they were gone. - It took me quite a while to figure out that it was either "streammaids" :o) or a kind of auditory illusion that would vanish whenever you concentrate on the sounds consciously. And I still get that illusion from time to time, only now I somehow can stay in between not focusing and focusing on it, so that I can hear both the stream babbling and the "voices" at the same time - quite like listening to the "wilderness" radio station in the background without paying real attention. Have a nice winter! Best greetings, Tim
I am glad that you are feeling a whole lot better and I'm hoping your shoulder is not going to act up You are definitely in a very beautiful spot with a creek just upon 20 feet
To be clear: I meant that I was glad to see you are able to get out more than you had been. Having 7 kids and being in graduate school, I understand that life can get in the way of your hobbies. I also understand that having a RUclips channel can foster a sense of obligation to get out and make videos. I’m not trying to add to that obligation. Take trips when you can. Make videos when you want to. I’m a fan regardless of whether you post twice a week or twice a year. Happy hiking!
7 kids! Good on ye'. I always feel some folks think I live in the woods. And yes, being a You tuber sort of does put that obligation on me. A blessing and a curse at times. Thankee.
Good to see a man recharge his 'soul' . Shug in the third person looks so contented that I'm jealous and would happily tag along if i ever make it back to the other side of the world. I hope you and your family have a great festive season and you sneak in a Christmas tree hang.
What a great video Shug. You even touched on the how to anchor your tarp in frozen-ground-yet-not-much-snow conditions. Was just contemplating that as Ima head out sometime soon in similar conditions here in Norway. Thanks for sharing, awesome stuff! WoooBudddey!!
Glad that helped. I plan to someday fly over to camp in Norway. Was there years ago on cruise ships and was very impressed with the people and the land. And the desserts.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! Please don’t hesitate to hit me up with any inquiries about the land up north, I’d be glad to help out if I can! I lived in the States for a few years and have started planning go back backpacking, maybe our paths will cross someday. 🙂 Take care buddy, thx for creating awesome content!
Way too cold for me! Nice video Shug - thanks for the laughs and for taking us along.
That was a right good trip. Thanks.

I hope someday (when I retire) to get into a good garden.

Nothing beats the glow of a UCO, with snowflakes hitting the tarp. Great menu Shug; gonna give those tatters and bacon a try. ✌🏼❄️🌲
It glows a warm light and seems real bright after a while in snow.

Another great video Shug. The more of your video's I watch the more I enjoy them and appreciate you. You always bring a smile to my face and make my day brighter. Thank You!

Oh sorry. Misread. Thought you "were lost" on the reference....haaaaa
Woo buddy! Greetings from balmy So CA. Always love your videos. Thanks!
Mucho appreciato.
Great video, as always. Glad to see you getting out there more regularly, again.
When I have time I go. But life happens too. Work, family and such. Thankee.
Backpacking is just a hobby and fun passion.
Nice to walk away from the world a bit.
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy)))))
Yay! More shug!😎
Thankee Jennifer.
That sounds presumptuous, This looks like a fun trip.
It was. It was fun. It was a fun trip.
Those voices you heard were the wood elves talking...lol. It looked beautiful out there. Thanks for sharing.
