I've had an SQ-2 Plus for 12-13 years and love it...except for the lack of resonant filters, where Ensoniq kinda lost me for trying to mimic analog sounds on their later synths. :-(
Excellent work, Wolfgang ! I have this underrated instrument to, sometimes sounds better than my TS10, in some situations sounds so pleasantly hard ... excellent ! Is it possible to download or buy Your patches ?
Hi all, If you have used a SQ1, what is your impression? Some told me it sounds thin and brittle whereas Ensoniq's more upscale Synth such as VFX or SD sound fat. Is it true? If SQ-1 sound weak (maybe presets), can it be made fatter or dirtier a la Oberheim if cleverly programmed (or is it something cannot be overcome due to the limitation of its synth Engine itself)? Thanks in advance,
+Young Choe I own an SQ1. If you work on it a little you can obtain incredible sounds. Especially with the transwave section. If you want to know more contact me.
Actually the SQ 1/2/plus/R contains 90% of the VFX / SD. If you know what you are doing you can get all those sounds since the wave content and architecture are identical apart from fewer transwaves.
studiomilo That's not exactly true. Don't get me wrong, I love my SQ1+ 32 voice, however the SD1 is a lot deeper. As an example, the SQ1+ can have up to three tones/wavs per patch/sound while the SD1 can have up to 6. Both are excellent and the SQ1+ is by far the most under-rated.
WhirRocks This is good info. I am interested in the Ensoniq Transwaves. Is there a chart or document comparing the features of the VFX, VFX-SD, SD1, SQ-1/2/plus ? Trying to understand the features of polyphony, tones per patch and number of transwaves, Fx, etc. Or maybe has someone developed a VST plugin?
+mjkirk12 The best transwave VST is terratec komplexer, altho I think audioterm 2.0 might include it soon.. a pirated copy of komplexer's floating around, but you can buy a legit version from some austrian reseller for 20 bucks.. that's what I did
+mjkirk12 Hi there and sorry for the delay - for Transwaves capabilities (number of raw waves) plus some other basic info on the synths I have a personal knowledge of: * SQ-R has: 9 transwaves as part of 124 total waves; the SQ-R also does intelligent midi re-transmission; does respond to both channel and poly-aftertouch; 13 effects options (e.g.: 8 voice chorus, or phaser + reverb 2) * the SQ1+32voice also has 9 transwaves as part of 167 total waves; the SQ1+ keyboard is not equiped for aftertouch; the synth will receive both types (channel and poly aftertouch); 13 effects options (e.g.: 8 voice chorus, or phaser + reverb 2) * the SD-1 (not 32 voice version) has 17 transwaves of 168 total waves; SD-1 has polyphonic "PolyKey" aftertouch. 27 effect options (e.g.: LPF+DIST+CHO+REV is one effect option; 8 VOICE CHORUS 2, is another.) No, none of these effects options bare any resemblance to the DP4. I believe you have to go to the MR, or TS series, or ASR, to get the DP4 effects in a keyboard.
What ? What's this rack ? I've never seen this. I thought I saw all of Ensoniq synths, this is a first time, and you have a video of it, which makes it cooler.
Thinking of buying the SQR from ebay soon, but the one i found isn't the "plus" model. Are you familiar with it? Is the only difference in the amount of available piano sounds? That's all the ebay description indicates
I am so in love with this old boy. I really like its unique sound. Very warm and charming.
definatelly this synth is magic
Wonderful collection of sounds. Congratulations WS. PR.

I'm considering picking up one, too. ($140) Seems like an interesting synth.

Are there any free editors for this synth? For OS X or iOS (TouchOSC, Lemur... anything)
try ksedit from www.ksedit.com
After a bit of fiddling this works pretty well on my SQR.
PS: Your demo sounds awesome Wolfgang! nice job!
Jason Woyak This is for windos

Still for sale?
Hi, you got luck? I wrote him an email one month ago to buy the sysex but not answers for me :/
what are the differences of sqr and sqr plus?
***** SQ-1 (R) "PLUS" has an additional Megabyte of 16-bit piano waveforms. Number "32" means 32 note poly (basic SQ-1/2/R has 21 note poly)
@@emmessarr same thing minus the piano, I think, Google it
wooooo!!!!!!!
Do you still have these available to purchase?
He still does!
Geiler Bass (Y)
