    well done! Malta might be a small country, but it's a full member of the EU and has it's own unique language that has to be acknowledged.

    • @Tamir-Barkahan
      @Tamir-Barkahan 8 лет назад +4

      +Unicum Unique language? Meh, it's a descendant of Siculo-Arabic, more or less mutually intelligible with Maghrebi Arabic (especially Tunisian Arabic). Anyhow, he's absolutely right.

    • @M22340
      @M22340 8 лет назад +10

      +‫מפיץ זעם‬‎ no i's not "mutually intelligible" it's barely intelligible. Maltese is not a descendent of Arabic. it's a mix between Arabic and Italian with a little English and French. So calling it a descendant of Arabic is like saying German and English are the same language. both are of the same origin and are slightly intelligible

    • @Tamir-Barkahan
      @Tamir-Barkahan 8 лет назад +5

      ^^Maltese is a descendant of Siculo-Arabic, I speak Arabic and I can understand Maltese so there's that.
      Your comparison with German and English is inept, since the common ancestor of these two languages disintegrated some 2,000 years ago while the common ancestor of Maltese and Tunisian Arabic was still around 800 years ago.

      @@M22340 That's rubbish. Maltese *IS* descended from *Arabic* (Sicilo Arabic to be precise) and is closest to Maghrib dialects having Derja influence like Tunisian and Algerian but, of course, it has suffered a lot of Italian pollution primarily due to political union with nearby Sicily and as a result having Italian as its official language there until the 1930s has done a lot of damage.

      Indeed. Gaelic has a dialect continuum that spans across Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. In many ways, the Gaelic of Argyll in Scotland and Donegal in Ireland are closer to each other than to other dialects in their own countries.

    I admire Mr Muscat for standing up for his language. It's the right thing to do, otherwise people will continue to downplay the importance of it and eventually it'll seize. I'd have done that as well but just not as brave as this gentleman. English may be spoken everywhere but it should not displace local languages, like it's done to Irish.
    How I wish I get to learn this beautiful language someday. Maltese people, please don't lose your language no matter how insignificant it may be. I'm learning to speak Hebrew, a sister language, which was once dead but because someone believed in it and strived revived it, now now lives on and is flourishing. Not every language is so lucky so appreciate it when it's still possible.

    I have seen a lot of people comment that Maltese is basically Arabic, it's not! It is it's own language that Malta is proud of to speak and is the only Semitic language in the EU, if you say that Malta should just speak English instead of Maltese you've got a problem. It's part of their identity and they're proud of it. Just like how I have Irish as my native tongue, it's part of my identity and literally no one in the EU speaks it except us Irish people. It's a joke, and there should be translators of Maltese in the EU parliament. If anyone from Malta sees this comment, I love you and your beautiful country, you should be proud to speak such a beautiful language ❤

      That's true! Unfortunately, a lot of young children are being raised in English and know little to no Maltese… But I don't think it's dying as a language, just that ¼ of people under 10y old see English as their first language.

    • @sanchoodell6789

      Maltese *IS* basically *ARABIC* or better still an *ARABIC* dialect but sadly with a lot of Italian (& increasingly English) pollution in it. The other major difference is that it is written in the more sensible adapted latin alphabet. The pollution needs urgent attention though. The pollution is heard in too many speeches given by Maltese politicians and professionals. Just pass a law banning Italian pollution and merge up with Tunisia.

      No, most European languages have ancient roots. Languages are not invented they develop
      Most modern European languages of them in the Indo-European language family. Of living language families Indo-European has the second longest recorded history after Afro-Asiatic to which the Semitic languages belong among others. But in Indo-European we have more varied recorded history while many of the Afro-Asiatic branches have typically not been written till recently.
      Spanish aka Castilian was not invented it evolved from local Iberian dialects of late Latin. The language thus carries the Roman legacy and it was influenced by pre-Romannce language in the Iberian peninsula carrying the history of Iberia in it.
      It is also vile and xenophobic to bring down others in order to highten another. You can praise Muscat without bringing down and insulting others.

    VIVA DR MUSCAT

  • @sanchoodell6789
    @sanchoodell6789 5 лет назад +1

    What I would MOST like to see from Prime minister Muscat is what are his policies concerning the Maltese dialect or language. Will he do something about all this Italian pollution in it. Will he implement and run a programme to help purify it. The Maltese people are justly proud of their *Arab* heritage, *Arab* roots, *Arab* traditions, *Arab* ways, *Arab* culture, *Arab* blood and their *Arab language* despite the input or pollution of Italian vocabulary. Most Maltese regard their country as just a Christian, Europeanised and whiter part of Tunisia. And most would like to see Malta and Tunisia merge into one country and be called either Maltisia or Tumalta. Many Maltese are now waking up to this and are discovering their TRUE roots despite the Zionist propaganda. As a Tunisian Arab it makes me so proud to hear this language in a written romanised form. Many Arabs considered Malta to be a 'lost' or 'stolen' child from us, their natural mother. And one day we will embrace our beautiful 'child' once more. Inshallah! *YES* ✔️🇲🇹➕🇹🇳➕🇩🇿➕🇱🇾✔️ *NO* ☢️❌🇮🇹❌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❌🇪🇺❌☢️

    Well. given the large number of Arabic speakers in Europe, and the large number of loanwords from Italian, it wouldn't be that hard to get someone to learn Maltese.

    I’d like to ask you here about the situation in the video.
    "He was talking in his Maltese language but the translator wasn’t working because of mechanical problems, so he claimed that the chairman should do something"
    I understand correctly?
    I’m from Asia, poor at listening English to understand but I’m so interested in the situation of languages in Europe.

    • @warispointless
      @warispointless 3 года назад

      You are very close. There was no person working as the translator for the Doctor Muscat and when he realised this, Doctor Muscat was understandably furious especially because the full meaning of his speech was lost and he explained that Malta is cut off from the English speaking world because there are minimal translations available for Maltese arts, TV, music and other mediums. Additionally, there are a fewer number of resources that are available to teach the Maltese language as opposed to a language such as Spanish or even Irish. As well, some schools in Malta punish their students for speaking in Maltese and push communication in English.
