Great to see the rest of the adventure. I can definitely relate to your struggle with life/youtube priorities-as you know. It's something we absolutely love (family) vs something we'll always have to do (work) vs something we really, REALLY enjoy (the hobby). Good luck finding that balance.
Fantastic! I get tired of watching all of the review channels. This is what it's all about. Practical applications, scenery, and all aspects of being in nature. Good luck with your new position at work. Fewer and farther between and that's understandable, I'm glad you've chosen to continue sharing. Worth the wait. Thanks again, be well my friend.
Sure hope you never completely quit my friend. Have and will always love your videos and perspective on life. Very real and down to earth. I totally understand the family/work/youtube balancing act. Be safe, and looking forward to what you post next.
Another great video! What an absolutely beautiful area. I know the struggle my friend, trying to juggle family/home responsibilities and getting out hiking, gear reviews and so on is never easy. Thank you for sharing whatever you can. Be well & stay safe.
Near the end of an epic road trip last week, I stopped at Blade HQ on the way back to Colorado. I bought the Guardian 3 based on one of your vids. I really like it so far. I always enjoy your content-thank you, and best wishes.
Nice. I've been taking the Guardian 4 on my latest trips and have been loving that one as well. No surprise as I have enjoyed the 3 so much. Hope you had fun.
I can really understand why you like to spend time out there. Such a beautiful area. Navigation in the woods is hard some times. I have messed up a few times when I don't have any visible landmarks in the thick forest. Thanks for sharing - Martin
Great trip Crocket. Incredible views. There very fact you were debating shows you have family as a priority as it should be especially when they are so young. Glad you didn't decide to let it go completely. Congrats on the new position as well. Take care. Nate
8:20- Pace couuuuuunt! lol. Thats pretty impossible in that terrain though, terrain association might work but its hard in the trees too. Man I need to get lost with a map and compass... Love these videos man, great stuff!
yeah hard here in michigan using that terrain association, even when the terrain is hilly if you are deep in the woods you cant see anything but trees, especially up north where everything looks the same, a compass is a must, havn't tried it with pace counts either.
Care to share the names of the lakes you did visit? I'm actually headed up to Amethyst this weekend, but this is really pretty. Go get that Dairy Keen!
Hay, Cr0cket; Great hang'n & Trekk'n with ya Bro. Awlays a new & wonderful view just around every bend you take. Loved the Gorbie Looking 4 a freebee. Hoping the New Position at work is productive 4 ya. Thanks again, Friend fer sharing. ATB Terry God Bless
If you use a gps and track your hikes a couple of times, you will get a good estimate on how fast you are moving. The terrain needs to be about the same and your backpack about the same weight, when you test it without the gps. Love your videos. Greetings from Norway.
What a pretty place. Definitely a place I would enjoy exploring! Would be nice if you'd put the location in your description. Thanks for sharing :) Winged spawn of S_tan.. appropriate name!! LOL! Sitting here at my office desk and watching your vid I'm now just "dying" to get out there and look for birds :) Love the nature.. love your family.. sometimes you do one, sometimes the other.. :) Good job family man, would love to see a vid of you with your family outdoors :)
There was a good article I read and it essentially boiled it down to balance. That's what I strive for. Sometimes hard with work and youtube competing for family time.
For me, my life seems to rotate through cycles. You've done some great videos over time.. When the time is right perhaps you'll be able to do more, but in the meantime find contentment with the point on the "wheel" you're in now. Good luck and happy adventuring!
Same thing here, I rarely have possibility to do overnight camping trips nowadays, and really no time to film youtube videos. I have hundreds of ideas what to film, but seems that nowadays I usually do all the hikes without a camera and don’t bother to film much of other stuff either. I have filmed some hikes, but then the editing process, not really liking that, so they never get edited and never air, or I just edit for homevideo use (for which I'm really filming them). Filming and editing just takes a lot of time. So to make things easier (and lighter) I rarely take filming gear with me. Seems that it’s also easier to enjoy the hike without filming “obligations”. I notice much more things when hiking silently and get more relaxed feeling. But then again I would like to share the experience, so... Don’t quit yt completely, your videos are always great, does not matter if there is a little fewer of them coming.Best channel on youtube in my opinion.
I've never been lost in the woods. I just have an innate sense of direction. Never owned a gps, not good with maps in the field. Beautiful views, I want to go there!
+Cr0cket20 I suppose that explains your desire to see a moose.I have only seen them on the North Slope. They're probably on the south slope,I've just never seen any there.
Think about Treating your clothes and gear with permethrin ? Used it a lot in the Army and when I did some of the AT, works good. I mainly used it for ticks, I know quite a few guys that got limes.
Yeah old buddy, I understand completely about family and work taking up so much time. I haven't been out since the snow was flying (shitty winter btw last year), hoping we'll get dumped on this winter. Got a new 4x4 to take up into the mountains.
Good video Cr0cket20. Sure glad you are still uploading vids. Had to watch this one in a couple parts. If you do decide to take a break from the show, maybe wrap it up with an ice-cream cone:) I for one would miss your vids, but it is what it is, a hobby not a job. Same opinion here as your other fans I'm sure. Thanks again for the quality entertainment.
I figure I'll continue to post but only when I can. Style of vids will likely fluctuate..although they pretty much have done that to some degree or another. I find it keeps the creative process flowing when I can change the style of vids to some degree.
The family obligations are huge and one of the reasons I'm not very consistent on youtube. The kids really grow too fast, and there is not a lot of time to be with them before they turn into smelly, obnoxious teenagers. On airport grounds all over the nation you can find Killdeer. They have seemed to adopt airports as their "natural" habitat. Anyway, they do the same thing where they call and act like their wing is broken to draw you away from the nest. They do this as you taxi by, just in case the jet is out looking for eggs. I did a lot of my hiking from trail heads near Mirror lake. Very similar terrain to that. Definitely one of my favorite places on the planet. And one last comment: I smiled at the Ice-cream. Anytime we went up by Bear Lake, there was a place in town we would stop at. I don't know that their ice-cream was really that much better than anywhere else, but I always remembered it that way and really looked forward to it.
Doing the occasional resection and marking it on the map as you go in lieu of your terrain associating could help you track how far you've come and what not, especially since you have the peaks as a reference and don't like to shoot the traditional azimuth from tree to tree.
You keep saying how much you enjoy it and yet there's a million mosquitoes all over your your panting you're out of breath you're tired you're carrying this heavy load what kind of a crazy person calls that enjoyment?? well someone like me and probably a million others out there tracking around in the woods with at least a 40 to 60 lb pack on none of that ultralight stuff and just loving every minute of it what the heck there's nothing like packing your own stuff on your back and going where you want to go as long as you don't get lost that is. Well nice video hope your family appreciates the sacrifice LOL.
LOL I started reading just the first part of your comment and thought to myself "there is no way I can explain it that they will understand." Then I finished your comment and thought "yup, this person truly gets it." It definitely can be difficult to explain to those that don't have the interest. And to some degree I see more that people don't want to be uncomfortable. So it is increasingly difficult to understand why we would enjoy what we do. Thanks for watching.

Many a discussions we've had about that. I'm finding that the balance point is always shifting too. Maybe it will swing back in the future.
What a terrific trip. Loved the scenery. Thanks for sharing. Great video.

Love your Channel Brother !
God Bless You and your Family My Friend !
Sure hope you never completely quit my friend. Have and will always love your videos and perspective on life. Very real and down to earth. I totally understand the family/work/youtube balancing act. Be safe, and looking forward to what you post next.
Probably not in the near future. I enjoy it too much. However, just won't be putting out the vids like I used to.
So glad you didn't completely walk away. Your videos have been a huge inspiration over the years. I'd be very sad to see you go.
Another great video! What an absolutely beautiful area. I know the struggle my friend, trying to juggle family/home responsibilities and getting out hiking, gear reviews and so on is never easy. Thank you for sharing whatever you can. Be well & stay safe.
It was becoming too much to juggle. Had to cut back on something before I dropped something. Thanks as always for watching.
Thankyou for all the time you put into your videos, hope to see more videos soon.
Excellent series of videos Crocket. Enjoyed watching. Mercy I have to visit High Uintas during one of my trips west.
Thanks Crocket. Love the videos. Many of us can never get out like this.
Love God Love your channel Thank you brother Love the vids.
Great finish and I hope you got there in time for ice cream!
WOW!! what a great video and a awesome place heading out to Utah in October for some camping and hiking.
Nice. Where are you planning to go?

the thick forest with ups and downs and have to go arounds make it a challenge for sure. Fun process.
So jealous. Looks like you're having a blast.
Yes sir. Wish I could do it more often.
Love your videos and reviews
thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoy the vids.

Great job man.
thanks for watching,.

I like seeing how others handle real life navigation. Something fun and special about using a real map and compass
I'm with you on that one. Always enjoyed my electronics, but there is something about that map and compass work.

@12:40 Love learning about nature. What a way for mama bird to protect her eggs.
Agreed.

Love your Videos....you may want to try and use Ranger Beads to help out with distance
Heard a little about that. May have to try that sometime
Thank you for sharing. So far as you tube goes, Man sounds like you got it right, Family needs to come first.
Record when you can.
Be Well,
I've never been lost in the woods. I just have an innate sense of direction. Never owned a gps, not good with maps in the field. Beautiful views, I want to go there!
I'm much the same with my sense of direction in general. It's interesting how some have that and some absolutely do not.
Just out of curiosity, what cutting tools did you bring with you?
Great video!
Silky Gomboy, Bradford Guardian 4, and a little tiny victorinox that is great for fishing with its little scissors.
Those are some good choices.
Love it!! I have been all over the Uintas and most of the time I know exactly where you are. I can only guess on this one. The Notch trail area?
Somewhat close to that. North East of the notch area.
+Cr0cket20 I suppose that explains your desire to see a moose.I have only seen them on the North Slope. They're probably on the south slope,I've just never seen any there.

Will look into that. thanks.
Do they stock those mountain lakes by plane?
Yes. There is actually some fun footage out there of just that. ruclips.net/video/KjjyBEWCHl8/видео.html
That's Dense? Come up to the Boreal. So hard to cut through the bush.

I really enjoy watching your photography skills grow over the years

This place is somewhat close to Mirror trailhead. There are so many places I've ID'd on the map that I need to visit. Lots in that area specifically.
Did you get your ice cream!?
No. I pulled in and they had just closed.
Doing the occasional resection and marking it on the map as you go in lieu of your terrain associating could help you track how far you've come and what not, especially since you have the peaks as a reference and don't like to shoot the traditional azimuth from tree to tree.
zion and brice for now going to try to get in as much as we can.
thanks
appreciate the watch.
You keep saying how much you enjoy it and yet there's a million mosquitoes all over your your panting you're out of breath you're tired you're carrying this heavy load what kind of a crazy person calls that enjoyment??

550cord.com has some great info on how to practice point landnav
Sounds good.
