This was released prior to Pharah rework (she feels a little better on maps that don't provide as much vertical cover)... what are some maps do you think I got wrong on this list?
Love you sm rn. I was just looking at my plays today and (besides play more characters) I knew I needed to study maps, but no one really sits down and talks about. Thanks big dog
You didn't put a bad map for doom. Imo something like 3rd point shambali feels absolutely terrible on doom. Not a lot or opportunity to isolate or get big punches and a hog can completely shut you down.
I’m counting new queen street as a good phara map after you dumpstered me in ranked
I actually disagree with you on Ana being good on Dorado, specifically 1st and 2nd point attack. She has lots of decent sightlines for low ground pressure, but unfortunately there are too many different highground angles she has to worry about. Ana really wants to find a sweetspot between vision of her team and vision of the enemy team, and fights on Dorado usually hinge on highground control where she is much less likely to have an advantageous position unless she spends a ton of time rotating, which adds risk of being killed while isolated from the fight.
I was surprised you didn’t mention esperanca or really any robot map for tracer because she can get in and out, contest, lurk, and spawn camp due to the variety of pathing available.
drinking game: take a shot every time circuit royal is mentioned as a bad map
That would be alcoholic suicide
bruh, mans is tryin to give people alcohol poisoning, stahp lmao
The description of how zenyatta works on flashpoint is 100% accurate. I do great until I die and then spend the next year getting back to point lmao
my most requested feature for the game at this point is map-specific stats. if you can tell me that i lose X map on Y hero Z% of the time i feel like that would be super helpful, i can't believe we still don't have that
Circuit Royale was specifically mentioned as a 'bad/not ideal' map for 14 heroes, which is ~36% of the current roster as at March 2024. Havana actually got 15 specific 'bad/not ideal' mentions (~38% of the roster). The map with the highest number of specific 'good' mentions was Ilios (7, ~18%) tied with Circuit Royale (all the poke/sniper comps).
It's really interesting to hear why the heroes I play on certain maps already are good and why the others aren't that good. I totally play them based on experience and feel for that but I couldn't put it into words most of the times
spilo may not be pregnant but he never fails to deliver
😂
bros copying comments from other people 🤣
source he’s not pregnant?
Corny
@@PoisedHDyeah I’m pretty sure he’s pregnant
I’d love to see a guide for the best heroes on each map because there are certain maps not mentioned here
I was looking for basically this video like two weeks ago and no content creators have made the breakdown that I wanted. Thank you, based spilo
Remember way back when Overwatch 1 had DPS heroes categorized as 'attack' and 'defense'? Sometimes I like to play different heroes if I'm playing attack versus defense. E.g., on Gibraltar I think Ashe is incredible on defense but kind of struggles on attack. So I'll play Sombra on attack and Ashe on defense.
Attack ashe on maps like gibraltar really depends on your team, if you've got a sigma you can do pretty well with it. And like Ashe specifically compared to other heroes like cass or soldier does have a level of verticality that can be pretty good because with coach gun you can really contest high grounds with her which is a big deal on gib. It definitely also depends on the enemy team though if they've got a sigma or a rein standing high ground shielding you off it can be really difficult to get that value contesting high ground.
I'm guessing Havana and Circuit Royale are gonna appear a lot for bad maps
As they should. It’s insane that Havana 3rd has not been altered in any way for almost 5 years
@@Guthboxnice joeyy pfp
I can't help but think of when I got flamed by my team for playing Winston on Gibraltar. That's the main monkey map, in my eyes. 🦍
Or the Rein complaining about their team when they’re playing him on Dorado… some people are truly lost.
@@Guthbox Personally this is a me problem but I kinda treat overwatch like a fighting game. I've never counter swapped during overwatch 1 so I was a solo Orisa tank main , I didn't really play a lot of DPS since queue times for bad and support I was playing Ana/bap/moria and some Lucio. What does me treating overwatch like a fight game mean? It means that I am a one trick pony and I like to develop and learn at least 2 characters when I'm playing. Even if the character sucks on the map and my team says I'm throwing I didn't care. The win is less important to me and what I'm looking for is Matchup and map experience. Learning overwatch is much more than just watching guides all day. Being able to take what you learn and actually apply it in game is far more important than a win for me.
Blizzard need to take a serious look at Havana and Circuit Royale because maybe, just maybe, those maps shouldn't be in the game if literally 90% of the hero roster is bad/suboptimal there.
100%
Yes and this map is just awful for supports, you always end up in super awkward places trying to not get sniped and you can still easily be left behind by your team. Tanks also feel super limited, in pro play it's Sigma only and even in ranked it just feels awful if you're not playing either doom, sigma or Orisa.
I don't even mind that some maps favour poke a lot, but when the only thing you can play on it is double sniper or Sojourn, Sigma, Zen and Baptiste it's not a good map. At least Havana has some highgrounds so it can feel good with dive in certain situations, but god does circuit royal feels like a parody of a sniper map.
thank you spilo as a projectile player who plays genji, echo tracer
i have concluded that i have to play genji on every map! thanks!
I literally looked for this like two days ago and couldn’t find anything this is huge
Thanks, great video man!
Thanks for educating us
All the bad characters on circuit royale instantly become fun if life weaver petals you over the roof on attack. They'll never expect it a 7th time!
Gibraltar is one of my favourite maps as high diamond lucio main. May be because my movement is really good because i've spent half of my life in lucio surf workshop, but you can get everywhere in no time.
I'd say most of old maps are good for lucio because walls are smooth. And majority of new ones are really unpleasant because they have a lot of details on walls with which you collide
I really appreciate that you’re covering topics that other creators don’t always think of
another underrated discussion in regards to maps is parts of maps where its open skys that transitions into a closed area. then you have to consider your hero choice again. its fairly obvious when you know your heroes kit where they thrive and where they dont. alot of corners? open skys? closed area? long line of sights? experience will tell it all.
Do you have videos for each map specifically, and not talking about best maps for each heroes? I made it it masters on tank but I feel like on certain maps I don't always know what to do when the team gets stuck. For example Hollywood 2nd point, numbani 1st point, early 2nd point on route 66. I get getting to high ground but obv it's not always that simple
I often pick my heroes based on the map, so seeing if i was close or not is interesting.
Magua Enjoyer here :)
For 2:22 Mauga gets mitigation/ dmg reduction in his Dash (50%) and his E (30% plus a 60% life steal)
Still correct tho, on Maps anything where the high ground can be abused can be a problem for him so typically any flat maps or brawl maps are his best choice
Depending on your aim tho as a bonus you can shoot phara/echo out of the sky :)
ohhhh very cool video!
This video has helped me a lot because I've noticed I play kiriko a lot (I play kiriko bap mostly) whenever I'm not sure what to do because I didn't completely understand where bap is strongest. Now I'm looking to file in a third character to cover gaps, any suggestions?
The brig one cracked me up 😂
For the longest time, I've been thinking about map-specific hero picks. I hear things like "Sym is an extremely strong pick on the right maps" all the time, but I don't really hear about what those maps actually are and why. So, this video is an absolute BOON, cheers Spilo.
I think baptiste is really good on gibraltar attack and defense. He has such easy access to high ground as a vantage point or an escape.
as a tracer main, i would say that most push maps are fun and relatively easy, payload maps are a bit harder and koth maps it really depends, some are hard and some feel impossible especially when they are very open. so like illios is fine but some feel impossible
Holy shit no way this is exactly the content I been looking for ty spilo. I just started getting into ow2. I have 700+ hrs so far and I’m going 80-84 in comp this season haha. Id love more content like this and maybe story times with replays from spitfire or your coaching days. My bad if you have those already.
If you could do map specific hero tierlists that be sick too
Just started? You have 30 days of playtime lol. You been cookin for a minute 😂
Spilo where are your Winston guides? It's kinda difficult to find it (I've watched all coaching ones already) but do you have a more recent take on him, please?
Might be a silly question but should I be prioritizing picking my hero based on the map and then what my enemy is playing or vice versa?
Thumbnail game insane
It’s funny you mentioned new queen st for sombra cause I’m a sombra main and that’s my favorite map with her 😂
New queen and esperanca are my favorite sombra and tracer maps.
@@warlikemicrobe3058 it’s really the push maps that benefit them the most, I just hate colosseo. Also, I like her on shambali a lot
Haven't put any major thought into this, and didn't pull any conclusion from it either, but just looking at the time stamps for each character, supports definitely did get more attention/thought put into. Is support positioning more important than DPS/Tank positioning? If so, why?
If you've been away from Season 9 yes, Supports got heavily nerfed due to new DPS Passive that reduces all healing by 20% for 2 seconds so the only viable Support is Zen in metal ranks who also has least healing meaning your team without coordination will die if they don't use cover. Staying alive is the name of the game for Season 9
@@Bluemansonic I played a few hours in season 9, and the seasons prior. Placed both my DPS and Support. Unfortunately, even though the indirect support nerf is probably a major reason for my initial question, it still feels like there are missing clarifying elements overall. Wouldn't the overall greater lethality of DPS, as well as their buffed survivability, also mean they should completely rework how they position, resulting in similar amount of thought put into individual characters? (aka, similar length time stamps)
Obviously this is some pretty in depth questioning from my part and I don't expect anyone to respond, as this is just a youtube comment section, but any points you may bring will be read and replied to! :)
@@thermo_vrcI think the biggest thing from a dps standpoint is each heroes effective range is still roughly the same so you will still fight around similar points on the map with certain heroes to engage in your own "effective range". Main difference is you can hold for an extra second when poking. Many supports damage breakpoints are now really bad like ana v tracer. Ana combos and ttk feel abysmal. Power has shifted to the hunters so the prey must be cautious. I think bap is at his peak this season. Outputting dmg is more important than ever so supports need to either be more cautious or aggressive if they have the dmg potential. Just my 2 cents
Do you think Nepal is better for Orisa or Ram?
How does Orisa simultaneously not have *any* mobility, but Nemesis Form for Ram counts as mobility for him?
Yess u da goat.
straight edge challenge: take a shot everytime midtown and samoa are mentioned
FINALLYY LFG
I actually love playing sym on Havannah- I don’t think she’s good on that map but the tp bomb spots are 😍😍😍, also ngl I think the only thing that’s making sym more niche than she needs to be is her survivability being in the shield healing thing??? Take it away and give her 25 hp- I need chunky sym 😭😭
I disagree with ilios for doom. Fighting on point is super awkward compared to other control maps. Lijiang is better imo
How in the holy jesus do you do these heroes in one take❤
specimen of nature + raw unfiltered skill
Notes/scripts
No bad doomfist map mentioned which means he has no bad maps😎
goat
Lijang used to be shit for rein cus so many pharas and if dps couldnt kill them rein is useless on that map (before pharas rework)
thanks plainly speaking for winton enjoyers
Can anyone tell me good tanks for Havana
Sigma.
Sigma on 1st. 2nd is pretty flexible. Sigma on 3rd
Good question...
I know after a few hours, I will remember all the maps that are highlighted for my characters, but I would to have a video that groups these by maps so I can really keep top of mind if I'm fighting someone who thrives in this environment.
