Roy Harper - Today Is Yesterday - Live Studio Performance 1969 / 1970

- Part 2 of some old Roy Harper footage that has recently surfaced. Five songs recorded live in studio. All five are in order in this playlist. But... recorded and filmed in which studio? Rumour has it that it's from Norwegian TV 1970. Roy has some vague recollection of the session but can't remember the 'where' or 'when'. We're working on that. Because of the songs being played, and the way some are being played, he thinks this session couldn't have been recorded after 1969.
These notes may develop. Check back for additional info...
'Today Is Yesterday' (Introduced here under a working title of 'Garden of Gethemane') was an outake written around the time of the album 'Come Out Fighting Ghengis Smith' (1968) but not released at that time. It has since been released on the compilation 'Today Is Yesterday' which is a collection of rare tracks and singles.
'Today Is Yesterday' is available at the artist's shop on cd, flac and mp3

Astonishing talent. A poet and a gifted musician. There have been chunks of my life where i have listened to nothing but Roy Harper, i hope he appreciates the emotional connection he has made with us through his work over the years.
Couldn't agree with you more, I'm glad others also feel as I do
Roy Harper is simply number 1 for me throughout my life from Another Day to Me and My Woman...one of the only ones left now.
Loving this. Effortless talent.
Beautiful man... I love his heart. You hear it through his music. It's soothing poetry ❤
i really wish roy harper's songs weren't pulled off youtube every once and awhile. sure he has to make a living...but considering how damn awesome he is, I really do believe that there should be more than something available to the public for free listening. Not just cause it spreads the message he is trying to get across, but because his music should be cherished by all. Come on, let youtube be an introduction to Roy Harper for those who have not heard him yet :)
I thank RUclips for introducing me to Roy Harper through his performance of Miles Remains off Roy's Death or Glory album, what a masterpiece. Keep rocking friend! 🔥🤘🙌👏👊💖🔥
One of the uk's greatest underrated talents. And one of my all time favorite musicians.
Oh we love him here in the United snakes of mascera too. Roy has been like an uncle of mine for as long as I can remember.
Love me some Roy Harper. Keep rocking friend! 🔥🤘🙌👏👊💖🔥
I can never get enough of Roy, I consider myself very fortunate indeed to have had his music on tap so to speak for most of my life, and very proud to have passed on the beauty of his writing and music to my two children. Thank You Roy.
Hope your children appreciate Roy Harper as much as we do, keep on rocking out friend! 🔥🤘🙌👏👊💖🔥
This, I’m quite sure, is part of a TV production done by NRK, The Norwegian Broadcasting Company, in Oslo, Norway. I think Roy was on tour, probably doing a gig on Club7 or Dolphin’s folk Club in Oslo, and a Norwegian TV-producer caught him in the flight. I believe the producer was Svein Erik Børja, well known for music productions on TV in those days. I still remember recording the sound directly from TV on my tape recorder via a very simple mic and rehearsing the songs and Roy’ marvellous DADGAD guitar finery for my own program as an early performer and singer songwriter. Garden of Gethsemane/Today is yesterday is such a simple and yet subtle song, drawing its imagery from the Gospel stories of the Passion of Jesus, creating an atmosphere of presence and longing. Roy’s intense engagement with biblical texts together with biblically inspired lyrics by Bob Dylan was my earliest really existential confrontations with the Bible. Today I am a Bible Translator. Thanks, Roy Harper.
A man whose ego was beautifully crushed by his own talent.

Nice call
later to be called 'tom tiddler's ground'?
@A. Fox Hey, go easy, he's trying: he just got the wrong song - the one it has more resemblance to is "How does it feel" ) and even echoes of "Goodbye") ; there is a certain overlap in melody and tuning as they are both from he same period ;-)
No, not that one: it has more melodic/chordal/thematic overlap with "How does it feel?" and "Goodbye" - they were all written around the same time. I think the tuning is different for "Tom Tiddler", G?
Sorry, no, I forgot it's double dropped D! (Well, almost G!)
