This is my favourite song of all time. Over the past 50 years, I must have played it thousands of times while driving long distances. Thank you, Roy, for such happy memories and such beautiful times.
This is from a Norwegian (NRK) broadcast produced by Svein Erik Børja, August 1969. I know because I booked all of Roy's gigs and TV appearances in Norway during that amazing time period. No wonder Roy can't remember when and where, there was a lot of smoke in the air in those days. Roy is Roi !
+morten nilssen I remember when the Stones did Hyde Park on July 5th 1969. The 'New musical express' had photos on the front of the next issue of the acts that played there. Roy had just had a pretty severe haircut - the NME even commented on it in their caption below the photo. He's either got hair that grows incredibly long in a short space of time - or - this is just before the July gig.
Saw him live several times during my student days in Cardiff (1969-1973)...fond memories and still listening, especially good during these current 'hysterical' times..
I saw Roy play this just once. The quality of the performance astounded me at the time and the memory has stayed with me for decades. City Hall, Newcastle. Strawbs supported with Rick Wakeman on keys.
This clip is brilliant a timely reminder of how good a musician Roy is, such a natural feel for the rhythm and texture of music. No wonder in the 70s so many wanted him to play with them excellent!
this is just brilliant, have the album & always thought some1 else was jammin with Roy, but since finding this I KNOW. What a genius guitar player. Love alll the lyrics too.
Saw Roy quite a bit in the 60s and early 70s. He would piss off a good chunk of the audience early on and the rest of us who stayed would have a fantastic time. I gather that he mellowed a bit with age. I recall a Karl Dallas (an avowed fan) reporting on a concert at the Albert Hall is which he was relieved that Roy got through it. I still cherish Folkjokeopus and this is great.
Hello Mr Harper, I met you once briefly at the Hull Trucking Theatre in 1985 if I remember, you had lit up in the intermission in your dressing room, I poked my head in and said hello. You played an amazing set with many of the audience sat cross legged at your feet.....Your music moves me in a way nothing else can. My friends and I have spent many an afternoon on a river bank in Brigg Lincs as kids listening to you accompanied by some good lebanese. Keep on doing what you do.
Mike Denby True but there’s a lot of in-studio video from this era that’s horrible quality. This recording is extraordinary in quality and as a historical document of Roy’s early days.
It could very well be that this is a recording from NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting System). Roy held a concert i Oslo Univeristy Aula on Friday January 23. 1970, and Norwegian TV did some recording on the occasion. Also participating at the concert were Lillebjørn Nilsen and Finn Kalvik. Both are still perfoming and alive and well! By tghe way, Roy also perfomed way up north in Norway during the same period.
Michael I remember my first day at school which would have been in September 69.....the torture lasted till may 80 -THREE decades at school ! Never heard of RH till hearing him till I visited the house where us Punks bought our weed in the mid 80s....love from the extreme east of the west country 👀

Wow. I've been a Harper fan for years but have just discovered this and I'm blown away.
the album version on folkjokeopus is even better! the whole album is great
Used to listen to Roy late at night in a mushrooom haze

About 5:15.
When unexpected chords makes back of neck hairs salute.
Gorgeous.
Hats off.
Fabulous! Thanks for uploading. You can hear some Bert Jansch influence here but as ever Roy makes it his own.
Still listening still no one better.

Hope they weren't illegal immigrants. 😄
absolutely superb, amongst all my collection of Roy's tunes this is tops
Miles Remains is one of his greatest songs 🔥🙌
How is it that the sound quality on this is so damn good? The video is excellent as well!
I guess because it's in a studio

@@BrettOwen71 yeah, you're right.. the video quality seems very high quality for its time.

Mad mans song
Hello Roy.
I'm quite sure that this is from NRK / Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, because I watched the programme when it was first broadcast.
to me he´s like the english answer to bob dylan but so much more interesting.
Yeah I've heard him called Englands Bob Dylan, yet Roy is a much much much better guitar player, I guess that goes without saying.
John Dickinson indeed
And bob was a way better writer I guess that goes without saying too.
Yes, they're both utterly brilliant in their own ways. Similar, but different enough to make them distinctive.
Roy is also a much better singer
To Albert Ayler 👏👏👏👏
If you remember the '60s, you weren't there
lol.
Michael I remember my first day at school which would have been in September 69.....the torture lasted till may 80 -THREE decades at school ! Never heard of RH till hearing him till I visited the house where us Punks bought our weed in the mid 80s....love from the extreme east of the west country 👀
67 not out. At the Isle of White @ 19..
I don't remember the 60s because I was too young
I don't remember the 70s because I was there!!...
How about doing a few shows in the states? Maybe Northampton, Ma or Boston? Great video here...thanks for sharing
Oh !!
Sounds so... One For All
Nice
what was the name of rh film
Black mountain side
Is that a jumbo guitar?
I hear Nick Drake
overrated,,,,,,
***** Yeah, so overrated that when they first met, Jimmy Page asked Roy to play this for him.
lol Page couldn't even play on acoustic guitar.. Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd should thank this man for their success..
How is Roy Harper overrated? The man's a genius! 🔥👏
