    I just got a really clean 2002 civic as my first vehicle and its been burning coolant for about a two months now with no visible leak. me and my friend who is a mechanic have a few ideas on what it could be but "he's been a mechanic for 5 years and I wont lie I don't know jack shit about vehicles but I like learning and i mean I just got my first vehicle 5 months ago lmao" anyway I have like 2 hours until school so I figured I might as well watch some videos to get some ideas, thanks for the video ! simple and easy to understand.

      Did you ever figure it out? I got a 2002 crv with the k24 engine and got it at 243k miles. I drive it like a project car, shakey but still takes it. Only thing is.. I burn through oil and coolant before I'm due for an oil change or right on that mile mark. No leaks. Shit weird... but also old and had things like engine mounts come off while delivering pizzas lol. It's crazy what these older honda's can take for a beating. Like old trucks. I'm at 254k miles. Got the AWD too... Just likes to drive hard I think (or say to feel like I'm not killing it). One I get a cherry picker going to take a look cus if the engine is still strong.. .maybe make a sleeper and boost it?

    Thanks for the video! My 2005 civic has been over heating especially more now in the summer. It's never smoked as I pull over quickly. I brought it to two mechanics.
    (First mechanic) The pressure test went well apparently and no signs of leaking.
    (Second mechanic) ran dye through and speculates a head gasket issue but is uncertain.
    When I add coolant, it's 95% into the radiator and not the resevoir.
    It's hard to want to pay for a head gasket without knowing for sure if that's the issue.
    If you stumble upon a situation like mine, maybe you could post another video 😊

      Alicia Greeley head gasket should have shown up with a pressure drop during the pressure test. Many times the water pump will be your leak but because it is difficult to see can be overlooked. Fill your coolant and then let the car run. While it is running look for drips underneath. Make sure your a/c is off when you do this. If you see a leak to the inside of your passenger tire replace your water pump.

Did the water dye test on top of radiator testing for exhaust leaks in coolant. None never changed dye from dark blue to clear. Changed thermostat still loosing coolant getting ready to change temperature sensors on block and radiator. And replace over glow reservoir. Did find coolant in my air filter intake . So possibly the coolant is overflowing out of my overflow reservoir and getting sucked up through the air intake pipe. Hiding the evidence of it leaking out

I eather have a physical phenomena going on, or I can consume 1-1/2 gallons of water an hour, with no leaking on the ground or steam out the tail pipe. Ginger You will know it’s the coolant if it has a metal cap, follow the hose beside the metal radiator and it will lead you to the coolant reservoir. Under any circumstances do not take metal cap off after the vehicle has been recently running. Please allow 2-3 hour cooling time for your engine before even touching the metal cap if you do not have a coolant reservoir. If you take that metal cap off while the vehicle is hot you are risking serve 3rd degree burns sprinkled all over your body. Please take what I say serious I do not joke around.

    I got a 2004 Honda Civic with a mystery water leak. It was venting through a bad radiator cap that problem has been fixed. The system seems to not hold pressure but here's the mystery. How to lose about a quart of water per 10 miles. Recovery tank does not overflow water and recovery tank cold and up to the top no over flow. A blown head gasket would make the radiator puke and it is not puking. Also I got no oil in my water and no water in my oil. No water or steam out exhaust. The engine is not overheating the engine gauge stays right where it is supposed to be until it runs out water. I can't find no pin holes in a radiator hoses or anything. When you turn the engine off you cannot hear no hissing or see any steam. The water just disappears into the Twilight Zone.

    Hi, I just recently bought a used 2008 Honda Civic Si coupe and I noticed there was no coolant in the reservoir. After letting the engine cool down, I fill the reservoir till it hit max. A day later, I took it for a drive and the temperature seemed fine, it was in the middle as it always is, however when I checked the reservoir again and the coolant was all gone! No visible leaks whatsoever. I thought it might be the head gasket, so I turned on the car, warmed it up, and revved the engine. I had a friend check if there was any fluid or white smoke come out of the exhaust and there was none. I checked the radiator cap and it didn’t seem worn out...any theories as to what it could be?

    • @YourCarGuyDR
      @YourCarGuyDR  5 лет назад +7

      Nick Algiers first check your oil level to make sure it isn’t over full. If the oil looks good the best thing to do is make sure the coolant is full and just let it idle while watching underneath for any drips at all. I would suspect a water pump. They tend to only leak when driving and you may never see any drips.

      There are a couple of tests that can BWE done. One would be a compression test. Low compression on one or more cylinders could indicate a blown head gasket. Also there is a kit you can buy from most parts stores that is a combustion gas detection kit. It isn’t very expensive and is fairly simple to use. If you have combustion gas in your coolant then you likely have a blown head gasket or cracked head.

      JMP News that doesn’t sound good. You want to refill the coolant (you can use water as a temporary coolant). Then look to see if you have a visible leak. Based on what you have said you may have a blown head gasket which would mean a significant amount of work to repair. Hopefully you just have an external leak. Make sure to check your oil level. If it is overfilled there is a chance that some of the coolant went into the oil. That is bad. Also check the underside of the oil cap. If you have a milky colored build up that is also a sign of coolant in the oil and would mean a major repair.

      @@YourCarGuyDRi replaced the radiator a week ago and since that is the situation the amount of water does not continue to drop, I went back to the garage for a test, he checked air pressure and checked that there is no leakage and said that everything is fine, but still continue to monitor that it does not continue to drop. He said that if it keeps going down then there is a problem and if it does not keep going down then everything is fine. The question is is this small lack of water normal? (Half a glass of water) Regarding engine heat there is no change everything is fine

      @@os4635 your mechanic has given good advice. The small amount of water is likely due to some air pockets that were in the system from changing the radiator. If it stops losing the small amount there is nothing to worry about.

    I have a 03 civic. It starts overheating periodically, like it goes a week or 2 without overheating then all of a sudden it starts. I have changed the thermostat about 3 months ago. I don't see anywhere that it is leaking... But a few minutes ago I was looking at it and there was a small puddle of coolent on the radiator, not from pouring coolant in. There isn't steam coming from around the radiator cap but rather closer to the puddle. Could this be because I have a cracked radiator?? Please help!

      Jenny Spencer that would most likely be a radiator issue. Many times they will leak where the core is attached to the tanks.

      Jenny Spencer a lot of times they will leak when cold but seal up when hot due to the expansion of the materials. This particularly happens when the seal between the tank and core is starting to fail. When your car overheats is it low on coolant?

      @@YourCarGuyDR not by much. When it overheats & I check it it may be half of a 20oz bottle low.

    Hi im from South Africa
    I search whole day for a answer. I realy realy realy hope someone can help me.
    I got a Fiat 128 rally 1974
    The radiator cap vacuum part is gone and have no rubber seal on bottom only big top rubber seal. So the water is going freely to the coolant bottel. The cap is open inside. So the water have no pressure and can go freely back and forward without any valve have to open.
    Now.. can this be the reason my kar overhead after so 10 km or in traffic light it get FAST overheat?

    • @YourCarGuyDR
      @YourCarGuyDR  Год назад

      It is possible that this is causing your overheating. The cooling system is significantly less effective when it is not pressurized. If the radiator cap is not holding pressure you will have overheating issues. However there are many other things that can cause overheating issues. But the radiator cap is inexpensive and must be checked.
