As someone who crashed their 350z into a pond, and got it out, it took me 3 months to fully clean every inch of the car, and replace and fix everything I needed to in the interior, I seriously respect this guys commitment to restoring this P1. I was lucky because no water actually got into my engine, and now my car has made a full recovery, but just fixing the interior and everything underneath the car was a big project. water in cars really sucks

I was impressed that the tech thought it was worth repairing, and that he humoured us all by providing a quote to repair it while knowing that it would never be repaired by McLaren.
They seem very willing to work with their customers to repair their cars if that's what the customer wants. Case in point, Rowan Atkinson's crash and fire damaged F1, the factory pulled out the original moulds and recreated carbon pieces that were out of production to get it back on the road.
Yes, it's a very special car, but they could have just said "no, it's a write-off, we haven't made those cars for years".

The McLaren P1 here unfortunately suffered a brutal beating. And now I think that even if you restore it back to "factory or even better" condition, it won't be the same at all. This awesome machine was crafted with surgical precision. Its not easy to recreate or even fix something like this without the proper tools.

19:48 As it happens, me and my family were staying near here when we visited the Kennedy Space Center. I was surprised to see a McLaren dealership "in the middle of nowhere" so to speak and we stopped by on the way home to check it out - just to see if I could show my kids some cool cars through the windows or something. Well me and my family pile out of our Outlander and a salesman meets us at the door with a smile and I explain that we'd just like to see the cars and he welcomed us in, showed us around, allowed our two sons to see some of most expensive and cool cars they've ever seen up close and personal. They offered us water, anwered questions, and were extremely accomodating all while completely understanding we'd never buy a car.
+1 to this place and the people there. Ironically, this was also the year I met both ChrisFix and Tavarish at a veterans event at Lowes in Sarasota, FL. It's been a year of meetings for my family and this channel, apparently. :))

We all knew that it would be 1-1.2 mil in total. In essence, he can sort it and bring it back from the grave and it'll be worth about that he has spent on it. That said, yes, there are firms that will do factory spec panels and carbon fiber for less, as a part of that markup is converting pounds to dollars and shipping (versus firms in the U.S. that make similar hypercars and F1 machines). I'd honestly just maybe DO carbon fiber versus paint.

Yeah, all the best to Freddie, but he should bloody speed up this project, and frequency of new videos. Last one was 3 weeks ago and the car was basically in the same condition, all they have done to it since was remove the windshield and clean the interior a bit. And get a pointless repair quote they’re not going to use (yeah, they might use the parts list, but it’s still mostly just body parts, which they plan on repairing rather than replacing). They should have had the turbos and engine parts disassembled by this point, to get a better estimate on most important (and difficult to repair) mechanical parts. I know this is going to be a long project, but seriously, are they working on other cars on the side, or what’s taking so long? Every time a new video comes out I go back to check and make sure I haven’t missed any in between. I thought they were going to be really focused on this project, and post weekly videos with major progress updates, and a couple of lightly edited behind the scenes workshop videos on the second channel, for people interested to follow more in-depth. At this rate many people are going to lose interest and stop following the soap opera. It reminds me why I basically stopped watching this channel long time ago, and I was coming back with high hopes for an intense, interesting project. So far it’s been mostly just fiddling around and joking at how they have no clue what it’s even gonna take to repair this thing.
Sorry, I’m off my soapbox now. Just get the project rolling guys, best of luck.

They need to be very careful. I am certain that their legal team will be very upfront and tell any and all employees to avoid cameras or document any "help" or "parts" aside from doing so and charging a consultation fee along with parts at retail cost minus any small discount once a certain total gets eclipsed. There are many McLaren customers and former customers that got hosed or feel screwed over in the past. As a manufacturer they have a very specific target market and they do not want to deviate from that business model. I am surprised they didn't make a deal with the insurance company to dismantle and make the VIN go to a destroyed list. If they are doing well and making a profit each quarter then they would have bought it...their legal team would tell them to but the accountants may not have approved the deal. These cars are known to be anything but reliable. When you buy one the price you pay is the starting point and will only grow with time even if you just keep it in a garage. I find this whole thing interesting and I am rooting for Freddie. This would never happen without the ability to recover money from ads and this platform. Maybe the manufacturer wanted this to go as it has up to this point too. It's interesting business on all ends. Takes guts to be involved in any of this.

    • @kylem324
      @kylem324 11 месяцев назад +3

I think their brand would benefit from anything that would help prospective customers wanting to own the cars. I think McLaren is awesome, and the performance is pretty impressive. But I don’t know if I’d ever want to own one of their cars. At any price point there’s something I’d more likely end up with.
McLaren have had problems with reliability, build quality, resale, parts availability, parts pricing and servicing. That just sounds like a grating ownership experience. Making their cars more accessible by reducing the barriers to keep them on the road would do a lot for the brand.
There are original P1 owners that have sold off their cars because they didn’t want to have to deal with the headaches that come with an aging P1 that needs major system upgrades.
All Mclarens are incredible. But these perceived issues impact the whole market.
So people like Freddy, or an independent specialist should be able to work on these cars. Otherwise their in the business of selling super cars that will lose a huge chunk of their value in less than 10 years. McLaren should have the goal of keeping as many of their cars on the road as possible.

They can't do something on good faith because their loyal customers would feel like being a content creator gets you special treatment. They probably are hoping to show viewers just how difficult it is, and expensive, to rebuild something like this so that people will understand that it takes over $2,000,000 just in parts to restore it and you'll lose thousands of hours in the process. Want to replace the body panels, glass, battery? That's fine, it's going to cost you half a million. You won't have a warranty and you'll still have another $250k in parts to go.

Like has been stated, they have a set market. They don't need any publicity nor would it benefit them financially in any way. Therefore, while it would be great, it would be extremely unlikely they would so much as even give a slight discount as there is no need for them to.

Yep, think the yellow before and after a good move, but also like other ideas about some sort of recognition of what this car went through in the flood, so maybe yellow with an aqua blue/green "tide-line" along the base??

Tavarish what ever you do. DO NOT GIVE UP fix the car do the impossible. If you complete this you will be the most highly anticipated sought car guy in the world on RUclips for many years to come you will be known across the globe. I'm trying to be the first person in the world to make a monster out of a 2020 Ford GT I'm trying to push it to 1200 hp to the crank and so far I have failed and I'm trying to have the wildest current gen Ford GT in existence but will that stop me no. Push forward never give up trust your instincts. And not to mention you will piss a lot of people off 🙏🏻😎

Not sure that anything on RUclips in ‘23 can beat Mr Tavarish and his P1. The chap and his team is all kind of awesome. Thank you for continually brilliant content. 👍

it would really be nice to see the p1 painted in in a gold/brown almost sand like color with blue details, paying homage to its history

That gold colour is gorgeous... with bronze or silver details it would pop

Hey, you could potentially save a lot of money on those harnesses by reusing them. The corrosion looks bad but as long as the wires are in good shape, just remove the pins and clean them. The modules are definitely toast but the wiring is more than likely good.

Back in the 60's and 70's and in the Spring, two friends and I would drive across Wisconsin to the Elk Hart Lake road course. One year Bruce McLaren was there driving in one of the Can-Am series races.
