"Why is the Mazda Miata always the answer?"
Because Toyota forgot how to ACTUALLY make an 86...
Also the Mazda Miata NA is actually kinda overpriced and overhyped, but kinda understandable. The NA is my favourite generation, as for the engine, I'd probably stuff a Toyota 3SGTE into it, except I'd rip the Turbo off and stuff a Supercharger instead.

  • @Chimera6297
    @Chimera6297 3 года назад +3

I'll admit they may be a little overhyped, but for good reason. it's not very fast so you can just go flat out 90% of the time, it handles super well, 4 wheel disc brakes, double wishbone suspension, and probably one of the single best manual transmissions made in the 90s.
perfect for heel-toe, perfect for just getting some seat time in a car, and even good for someone learning how to drive a manual for the first time. they're pretty easy to drift, just go to a parking lot and mess around for a bit
to say they're easy to work on is an understatement as well. I swapped in a 1.8 into my 92 Miata after I blew the 1.6 and I barely knew anything about cars at the time, just sorta learned as I went through it. after some injector cleaning she fired right up with an open downpipe. it shook the earth beneath it
if I could swap in ANY engine, I'd put a 26B in er and let it scream

@@davidkem3319 240 became overpriced years ago after everyone realized how good of a platform it is for drifting. The Miata has been going up in value partially due to hyper inflation and the current used car bubble, as well as a host of other potential factors. My guess is they've finally kinda shed their "girly car" reputation that they've always had which stopped insecure men from buying them. Also they're becoming the last affordable raw feeling Japanese sports car.

Own a 96 NA8. Pretty much the perfect all around driving enthusiast platform (good for car enthusiasts too). Awesome first car as well. They're also great for learning to wrench on. Very simple, pretty much all just nuts and bolts. Non interference motors so it's more forgiving if you make a mistake while working on it and say something like a belt snaps. They're also just very reliable overall and being fuel efficient, means you aren't draining your money at the gas station every time you need to fill up. Also, the sheer number produced, as was mentioned, makes finding good deals on parts and the oppurtunity to be thrifty pop up a lot more often. Very easy to own these cars on a limited budget. Have been able to be thrifty with almost everything on mine and where the car is at now, seems like it would be a lot more expensive than it really was. That's the power of networking with other miata owners and pick n pull.
They're also just fantastic learner cars for getting a handle on performance driving. They definitely are NOT forgiving cars to drive fast like some people say. The lightness makes it nimble but the 50/50 weight distribution means managing weight transfer is a skill you'll have to get used to if you wanna be fast. If you fuck up, you can spin out super easily. But that's also why it's such a great drivers car, you can learn the rwd platform on a car that's slow but, it still is capable of a bunch of advanced driving techniques. If you look up mx5 dynamic drift for instance, there's a video of drift king inducing and holding a drift with just liftoff oversteer.
Once you learn how to be quick on a miata, you'll feel much more comfortable in any other rwd car you get in.

I have 2006 (NC) and I have done a 2.5 liter swap with a turbo, and coilovers. I went with the 2.5 liter engine because it has a lot more lower end torque, and it is only 12 lbs heavier than the stock 2 liter engine. This keeps that 50/50 weight distribution that Miata is famous for. I have a high flow cat mid pipe and I have also Moroso Aluminum overflow tank. Future modifications I plan to do are Electronic boost control, GWR Roadster Sport II muffler, Work Schwert SG1 wheels (18" x 9.5" black and bronze), a big break kit, a new style bumper with lip, rear diffuser, and a spoiler wing. Right now, It is one of the best handling cars I have ever driven, and when I put in the boost control, it will have an excellent power to weight ratio (1 HP for every 8 lbs.) ZOOM ZOOM!

ISR gives it that deep throaty tone, without the rasp, very droney, but literally nothing to complain about, if you can’t stand drone, you’re too old for exhausts 😭. What engine would you put in your Mita?
    Volvo B5244T5 (2.4 T5) or D5244T11 (Volvo VED5 “D5”, a twin turbo diesel inline 5).

I really love this channel but being a 16 year old who wanted a Miata since he was so young it’s frustrating to not be able to buy one anymore because of the prices and u guys really just made em go even higher it’s and willing did it no hate love the channel but my dreams feel ruined of getting a nice Miata at 16 cause I been working my butt off and know don’t even know another option for a car to get that’s rwd a 2 seater and reliable

I bought mine before they got super popular. I think that all the kids on TikTok are wanting one just because it has pop ups, not because its a good car. I've had people tell me that if it did not have pop ups, it should not be a miata. I'm glad they are getting recognized, but the hype behind them seems to be misplaced

    I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE MIATA!
Now with that said (shouted) I do have to say, they are 100% over hyped to the point that the market is matching the price to the hype. Not just ~3 years ago you could get damn near any NA Miata for under 5k with options for DAYS! Now in todays world, you cant find a busted 'project in pieces' for under 8k and clean ones are going for close to 10k.

I love pop up headlights (insert pop up up and down headlights song here) but I prefer the NB. As for engine, so many choices. SR20, K24, F20C, 1JZ... I'd probably have to to with a 1UZ-FE or 4A-GE, because both sound nasty with the right exhaust and besides, who wouldn't want to hear AE86 sounds or LS400 sounds coming from a Miata? A 13B would be pretty cool, or piss people off and swap in a 4BT Cummins or some other diesel engine.

I love Miatas. I don’t think they’re overhyped at all and I may be biased. I think they look both adorable and badass. And the handling is amazing which makes it real fun round a track or in autocross. I plan on getting one in a few years and I want to swap a K24 into it.

I didn’t think I was going to pick up a Miata because most of them are clapped out but I feel fortunate I kept hunting through fb groups. Just be patient you’ll come across a deal.

NB owner of 3 years, I always loved Mx5s as a kid, The headlights were awesome, but I picked up an NB. I went and looked at loads of NA's after buying my NB, But they all felt... Shit. And the pop up light button didn't give me the fizz I thought it would (I guess being 3 decades old changes things?). So yea, I'm sticking with the NB.
