I'm actually on the Ukrainian front at the moment; I have been here since the start of war, with a few breaks in-between.
I work on many levels, in many areas...from Kyiv in the first weeks of war, to Donetsk, Avdiivka, Toretsk, Kherson...
His assessment is quite accurate, but not fully.
His Belgorod information is inaccurate and misleading.
What I wish to mention is:
My work has always been with Ukrainian units. Even if Trump forces Zelenskey into a ceasefire, and he could do that in one day, by simply pulling the plug on the weapons supply. These men are not going to stop the fight! Trust me!!

Trump will have little to no influence on what Putin wants, Putin has never cared about that before. Only a country like China could possibly do something, but I doubt that too. Geographically, Russia is becoming increasingly dependent on countries that still want to trade with Russia. The sanctions regarding no longer trading in rubles are finally bearing fruit because reports are there that domestic inflation in Russia is rising rapidly, shortages are emerging everywhere, the economy is focused purely on war material (and they can't even keep up with that).
If, as they say, the supplies of armored vehicles and tanks are running out, and the only tactic that keeps Russia in the war / makes progress is meat waves, then that must be very demoralizing if Ukraine can strike again and again. Taking back the initiative will indeed be important for Ukraine. Although I do have the feeling that they are quite busy with that in terms of destroying targets far behind the fronts. The Black Sea Fleet is almost completely disabled or no longer significant, large refineries are being hit and disrupted up to 700-1,000 km away. This will hurt Russia a lot because they do not have the manpower to be present everywhere, to throw defenses everywhere. Simply put, there are too many installations. In that respect, Ukraine can keep shifting their goals and keep misleading Russia.
The development of war material by Ukraine is absolutely not standing still, partly thanks to the continued supply of technology from the West, which Russia has a great shortage of.
Ukraine will not give in to the Russians. I suspect that the only thing that could really stop the war is for someone in Russia to say and think; "this far and no further" and depose Putin. Although Putin has made sure for decades that he no longer has a real opponent.
Trump has the advantage that the world has been taking tough action against Russia for years now, Russia has been weakened by this, but that Trump is the one who caused this... no. What has already been said regarding the delivery of weapons and money being blocked by the Republicans, even to the contrary.

Some pieces of the puzzle for Russia are the age and wear of the equipment. Ammo is reported to not fire every time with outdated shells and duds that don't explode, if they even make it out if the barrel. The age of the tanks and BMPs, being sent into battle without optics and modern basics, straight out of the 1960's and 1950's. And then the biggest problem in artillery: barrel wear. They cannot produce replacement barrels enough to supply the front, and a worn barrel has no accuracy, so they expend even more shells trying to hit anything.

Read behind the bombastic narratives and dramatic headlines and look at the actual sober estimates coming out of Western or pro-Western sources (to avoid accusations of pro-Russian bias) and the casualty ratios are actually a lot closer, probably somewhere between 1:1 and 3:2 in favour of Ukraine (and the upper end of that is probably being generous). Doubtless there will be localities and instances where much higher ratios are achieved for both sides and the Russians are likely to suffer more for being on the offensive but as you correctly point out the Ruskies' artillery overmatch is the great equaliser, reliably and consistently inflicting casualties whether on the offense or defense.

If this is true nearly anything that nudges Trump to support Ukraine is good. But he also is on a tear to threaten Panama, Canada, Mexico etc... he is so impulsive and chaotic.

The constant British triumphalism in the face of Ukrainian human losses, and destroyed livelihoods is grotesque. It’s as if Ukraine suffering isn’t even a part of the equation! Some may summarize this sad episode as “fascinating” - perhaps more find it amoral.

Wars like this are absolutely nothing to do with the people who fight in them. For then "their are no winners". This war is all about the billions of Ukrainians who will come after them and live in a free, sovereign and prosperous Ukraine. They will be the winners just as you are a winner of the 2nd WW. For the sacrifices that they are making the saying goes like this:- "at the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them".

@@marviwilson1853 or not. Billions you say? In 2014 Ukraine claimed a population of around 44 million. Today there are probably around 28-30 million people living on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian state and even those are an aging population falling well short of replacement rate even before the war. Millions of Ukrainian women and young people will never now return and the situation is becoming worse not better with each passing day. Even before the war the birth rate had plummeted with just over quarter of a million live births each year and those figures will likely never be reached again.
