i was never into reaction videos for the music critique anyway. amazingly i actually think a lot of reaction channels dont have great critiques because like, first impressions are basically worthless and they often miss the bigger point or picture or just jump to a conclusion that doesnt make sense in order to have something "smart" to say. what i love about reaction videos though is that they are a great extension of the hype and excitement of listening to highly anticipated new albums from artists i like. it feels like just, hanging out listening to music and making jokes with ur friends. something that became absolutely paramount during the quarantine. ur a funny dude and im glad to have u back, even if it ends up being temporary ♥︎

The problem with hht is that those accounts feel the need to compare anything and everything, they don't even give opinions. They very rarely give actual opinions or thoughts on albums or why they like or dislike a particular album. They just screech this album is mid or this album is fire, or Tyler the creator is better than Lil uzi or carti is better than j Cole. They never just enjoy an album.

I finally have found the words for what Tabby’s reaction videos feel like. It’s like when you have that one friend you love sharing music with and you don’t have to point out anything or explain anything you both just get it and you both are just hype as fuck and notice all the same things and it’s so magical !
When I first heard Flower Boy I thought it was an alright album, nothing special. After watching Tabby's reaction to it, I seriously couldn't stop listening to it, and it now holds the title for my favorite album of all time. I even have a poster of it on my wall. All this is to say, Tabby expanded the way I viewed and experienced an album to the point where it's had a profound impact on my life. Seeing the parts of it that he emphasized and even just noticed made me see the album in a whole different light. And it wasn't just with Flower Boy, I felt that with most of my favorite albums like All Amerikkkan Badass, KOD, and a bunch of others. As much as I love Tabby's reactions for entertainment value, I equally love them for the way they allow me to get so much more out of my favorite music, and appreciate the beauty in this art form in ways that I wouldn't have otherwise.
