I’m not your doctor but I’d make sure it’s a non-stimulant! So it’s NOT addictive! - I took adhd medicine for 10 years and it was the worst (but it works differently for everyone) but I will honestly say it made me feel more drained cause it was given to calm me down. But it calmed me down too much! So really get a second opinion/talk about it!

I was in the same boat with my Hispanic family. I had a lot of horrible things happen to me in my youth and was diagnosed with PTSD, Major depressive disorder, anxiety, OCD...and my family never accepted those conditions as real. They would tell me I was fine, it was all in my head, and doctors were making things up to get more money. Now growing up my mom and sister have been diagnosed with depression and put on medication and now they finally understand me over a decade too late. I was alone and suicidal most of my youth. It's sad how little understand the Latino community, especially the older generation, has towards mental health.

I have ADHD and I’m not embarrassed by it, I embrace it. I was actually really happy when I was diagnosed bc it helped me understand why I am the way I am, it wasn’t that I was lazy or overly emotional, there was a valid reason. Don’t get me wrong it’s tough and frustrating at times but being diagnosed allowed me to learn how to cope with everything that comes with it. I love that you decided to share this part of your life by bringing awareness to it!

By you admitting you got a mental health issue is already making you a better and stronger person. You’re not alone and you got this. A lot of us go through something or are going through something that we be so afraid to talk about because of what other might say. F that if they judge or can’t understand or even hear you out then they don’t deserve to be in your life. You will over come this trust the process. 🌹

I went such a long time thinking that I was a slob and why I do things a certain way or why I don’t do anything about organizing. What has helped me is taking notes and just put one thing that I can accomplish that day. I am a mother as well and it’s always very overwhelming having to complete multiple tasks throughout the day. I clean every room in my house EXCEPT my bedroom. I start feeling dizzy just by going grocery shopping and I can’t go to malls without having someone with me because I start to feel like I can’t breathe. Definitely what’s helped me is spending time outdoors and going on hikes. Thank you for sharing your story !

This is the ultimate act of courage Alondra….being vulnerable. Thank you for sharing a part of your story with us with the intention of normalizing mental health struggles because the fact is there was a mental health crisis prior to the pandemic and it has only been exacerbated by it. This is very brave of you and you are helping so many others by sharing your story, as you have this platform. As a mental health professional I’m glad to hear that you have sought out help, that’s often times the hardest step. And yes the Latino culture still has stigma in regards to mental health which is why it’s so important that you used your voice. Please know how brave you are by sharing and remember to practice self compassion with yourself on this journey. Therapy can be like cleaning out the closet in the house that you just stuff junk into, it’s packed with so much stuff that it can be overwhelming once you start cleaning it out, but if you stick with it you find out what’s not useful, what you didn’t know you had and what you still need. Therapy can be a lot like that. Stick with it and remember you’re not alone! Sending much love and healing energy your way! ❤️

I can relate too. That’s so crazy, I get very motivated to do projects and get so hyped then I don’t have desire to go any further with them. And psyche my self out like this will never work and no one cares to see my work or what I can accomplish. Hence why I plateau on my own lash brand too.

I’m 15 about to be 16 got diagnosed with depression, anxiety & I get panic attacks & even suicidal at some point I found out I had all of this when I was like in 10 or 11 because my dad was super sick and last year on November he unfortunately died and it’s been super hard. Your mental health is really important & it not only affects you but everyone around you it’s so hard but I’ve been taking medication & trust me it’s the best thing someone can do to help themselves. It’s always a hard topic for me to talk about how I’m feeling. I think I waited years before I even reached out for help. I got diagnosed with anxiety and depression. And being in medication and going to therapy has helped A LOT. Also bringing up the topic of mental health and getting in medication, letting my family know was the hardest thing I ever did, because as we know Hispanic family will just tell you to cheer up and get over it. But coming to my parents with what I was feeling I completely expected the opposite, but I’m so happy they were supportive and not judgmental about the things that I was going through. Alondra, You don’t know how many people you’ll be helping by sharing your story. Thank you for being so open and sharing with us.

Pairing therapy with your medication is super super super great and should give you peace of mind while you're on medicine because not only are you simultaneously working through your issues with a professional, but you also have a professional monitoring you on a deeper level while you're on the medicine to make sure everything is going well and pivoting when needed ♥️ having both a psychologist and a psychiatrist is great!

Support from family and friends is a must when feeling down. Painting and makeup is my therapy while at home. Also listening and singing along to music to let my feelings out is therapy. This makes me feel so much better about what I’m going through. After I had my son I was diagnosed with bipolar depression w medication it went away. Right now I just have very bad anxiety. He’s 3 years now so I started meditating, listening to music to get things done, taking a bubble bath and thinking positive. If I feel like I’m going to have an anxiety attack I focus on my 5 senses! Hope this helps!! 💕

I think it’s important to add the fact that we can relate to some of the things she’s experiencing does not mean it is ADD. We should not self diagnose. Look for help! Can you agree?
Im another note! Im glad Alo is talking about mental health! It’s a very touchy subject. I am being treated as well for other disorders and seeing a therapist! It’s the best!! Even if you’re not depressed, have anxiety, ADD, etc. It’s always great to have someone give you a non biased POV ☺️

I got diagnosed with ADD/ ADHD as a kid. Now that I’m older and have children who have been diagnosed with autism I started digging deeper and realized I may have been misdiagnosed as a child. As autism is usually misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD most times. The signs are about the same which is why a second opinion is best. I’m actually going for a evaluation or autism now and if it turns out that I was actually misdiagnosed it would explain so much about myself and why my children came out how they did .

My brother has adhd and for a while my psychologist thought i was bipolar which is what i think what you were describing. There’s a lot of stigma but never be ashamed. Turns out i am not bipolar, i kinda had to just learn how to take things one day at a time, to feel my feelings, talk them about and pin point what is happening instead of pushing it aside. I started planning things out day by day and not over doing things. Resting when i need to and not adding more then i can handle. I have therapy weekly and i did an amazing seminar that is for personal growth and i learned a lot about myself, my personality type and i was able to get off meds.

I was also diagnosed with a mental health condition that I haven't been able to bring myself to share with people yet. It's very overwhelming and scary to know but it also just makes perfect sense when you finally hear that it's not all in your head. Just keep an eye on the meds, I went from really bad shape to numb, never felt the happy part, so I lowered the dose and It definitely helped.
