I’m not your doctor but I’d make sure it’s a non-stimulant! So it’s NOT addictive! - I took adhd medicine for 10 years and it was the worst (but it works differently for everyone) but I will honestly say it made me feel more drained cause it was given to calm me down. But it calmed me down too much! So really get a second opinion/talk about it!

I was in the same boat with my Hispanic family. I had a lot of horrible things happen to me in my youth and was diagnosed with PTSD, Major depressive disorder, anxiety, OCD...and my family never accepted those conditions as real. They would tell me I was fine, it was all in my head, and doctors were making things up to get more money. Now growing up my mom and sister have been diagnosed with depression and put on medication and now they finally understand me over a decade too late. I was alone and suicidal most of my youth. It's sad how little understand the Latino community, especially the older generation, has towards mental health.

I went such a long time thinking that I was a slob and why I do things a certain way or why I don’t do anything about organizing. What has helped me is taking notes and just put one thing that I can accomplish that day. I am a mother as well and it’s always very overwhelming having to complete multiple tasks throughout the day. I clean every room in my house EXCEPT my bedroom. I start feeling dizzy just by going grocery shopping and I can’t go to malls without having someone with me because I start to feel like I can’t breathe. Im currently going through PPD. I've been diagnosed but so scared to get on medication. I hear from so many people how it made them feel no connection to their kids and I don't want that. I literally just try to get through it. I'm a 22 year old single mother to a 3 year old and 7 month old, I go to school full time and work part time. Literally, I just pray sometimes on my knees that this storm will pass. I am so blessed that some days are better than others. I definitely go to therapy once a week, sometimes I cancel and will she her once a month. I just remind myself daily that I will get through it, positive thinking, and advice from my therapist helps. I can never follow through tho. Everyday is a battle, but I stay hopeful and only surround myself with GOOD SUPPORT. I know we will get through it. Working from the inside in is hard but will be worth it in the end. I believe in you 💕

As autism is usually misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD most times. The signs are about the same which is why a second opinion is best. This is the ultimate act of courage Alondra….being vulnerable. Thank you for sharing a part of your story with us with the intention of normalizing mental health struggles because the fact is there was a mental health crisis prior to the pandemic and it has only been exacerbated by it. This is very brave of you and you are helping so many others by sharing your story, as you have this platform. As a mental health professional I’m glad to hear that you have sought out help, that’s often times the hardest step. And yes the Latino culture still has stigma in regards to mental health which is why it’s so important that you used your voice. Please know how brave you are by sharing and remember to practice self compassion with yourself on this journey. Therapy can be like cleaning out the closet in the house that you just stuff junk into, it’s packed with so much stuff that it can be overwhelming once you start cleaning it out, but if you stick with it you find out what’s not useful, what you didn’t know you had and what you still need. Therapy can be a lot like that. Stick with it and remember you’re not alone! Sending much love and healing energy your way! ❤️

What sucks was that I had just had my second baby 7 months before and I felt like I was all alone and I felt like I couldn’t take care my kids the way I wanted to . My anxiety went on for 4 months straight non stop. It was the worst feeling ever . I didn’t think it could be possible to feel that way . My doctor prescribed me some pills but I never took them . I felt like I was going crazy battling this alone and wanted to end my life at one point. I’m glad to say 3 years later I’m able to control my anxiety. I get them here and there but talking to myself really helps me calm down before I get anxiety attacks.

Some of the tips I have is 1. I write everything down on my notes. Every idea or something I need to do etc.
    2. I mark things on my phone calendar with an alarm like appointments etc
This really helps me feel more at ease and not feel my mind all scrambled and stressed thinking I’m forgetting something
On my to do list I write the most important thing s on top and put a check mark after I’m done so I can feel a sense of gratification and motivation to keep going n finishing the rest idk that just really helps me
Reading self help books also helps me a lot too like psychology books, motivation books etc.

this is so crazy tbh because literally YESTERDAY i was feeling down and watching your tik tok and thinking … alo has the perfect life. must feel so good to have a family and be happy and worry free. and here you are opening up to us… i applaud you and i love you so much more now. it’s crazy how we judge and really do not think about what happens behind closed doors.
i myself am also dealing with similar things. i have never fully cleaned my house. i moved to a new town house a year ago and i still haven’t fully unpacked. i have no motivation sometimes. i get really sad and cry so much. and on my days off i lay in bed ALL day instead of being productive. i also have the worst anxiety ever. everytime i leave my home i feel like i’m gonna die in an accident or something. it’s horrible. i just signed up for better help after watching this.
thank you so much for being so transparent… love you sm 💞

I’ve dealt with anxiety and depression for as long as I could remember. I think now as an adult it’s getting to be bipolar. But what really helps is communicating with my boyfriend and even help him understand what I’m feeling because he does get concerned. Having a diary and writing anything down, the good, the bad, just having to write it down on paper makes it feel better than having it roam in your head. But definitely distracting yourself. Going out or any hobby helps. But I am scared on going on meds😔❤️

After having my twins I’ve been seeing a big change in my mental health. Literally the main thing that helps me is praying I was very aware of having problems as a young girl now that’s I’m an adult with kids it’s been a rough path but believing Jesus is our healer makes everything so much better my mom never believed In medication she’ll always say “pray about it.” Trust me I thought about medication but same here felt like it change me as a person. So I found myself in Jesus Christ. I run to him every time I feel overwhelmed or when the bipolar kicks in. He’s everything Good an That’s what’s all we need. Amen 💪🏼💯 stay strong girl.

Girl, I dont have add but I do have adhd. and I havent had any luck with stimulants, everyone is different so instead i have luck with antidepressant ive been on for a year now. You mentioned forgetting to pay bills, I go through that too, what helps me is having automatic payment set up always. Also having a phone calendar and mark a recurring payment date for each thing and notifications that make noises each time it's coming up. same for literally everything that you wanna remember, it helps me so much!! Hold yourself accountable to put down everything you want to remember in either a calendar or notes because if you tell yourself "ill remember" your brain can only hold so much info at once so do yourself the favor and force yourself to write everything down even if it feels like you "should remember". it takes a load off your brain when you do!

I feel that’s what’s makes motherhood hard because we go through all these feelings that are normal and I think as mothers we need to start normalizing this because to me it’s normal to be feeling all those emotions and I’m the type to not want to go ask for help at the doctors because I do not believe in taking man made medication also I’m a believer in natural remedies🌿🌱, I rather smoke marijuana to help me out with my anxiety, stress, depression. I know smoking marijuana isn’t for a lot of people but sometimes people just need to learn how to control their mind to not think worse upon it. Marijuana can do much better wonders then taking 💊 that aren’t so good for your gut. Now this is my opinion n experience in my experience it has helped me a lot with calming my nervous down🙂.

Girl!! I just got diagnosed with ADHD and started medication in January and it has been the BIGGEST help! Same as so many ppl here in the comments and like you I’ve also been through a lot as a kid and just not knowing for all this time was so hard! Esp at work!! I think it’s harder for us Hispanics b/c our parents just didn’t know or didn’t have the money to get us the help we needed.

AD/HD is what we use to diagnose a person with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, we use this to cover what people previously knew as ADD and ADHD. We now indicate if the presentation is combined type which would before be a person with ADHD and ADD, there is also hyperactive/impulsive type which would be previously known as ADHD and inattentive type which would previously be ADD. Hope this helps you understand why your provider used the term ADHD.
I’m a psychotherapist in California (licensed marriage and family therapist) and you talking about this is admirable, your vulnerability is helping reduce the stigma on mental health!
Wishing you so much love, peace, and strength! 💞

Meditate. Their is so many ways of meditation (breath work, yoga, prayer, writing)
Also, something that helps me keep on track and finish my tasks is doing a TODO list every day. (Be realistic with your to-do list)
You are brave and strong for opening up to your audience. Thank you for being honest and real with us.
    ❤️❤️❤️
Sending you tons of positive vibes! 🙌

Yes to do lists are good. I can relate this goes deeper than just being messy. For me it’s even bad money management. I see a good amount I’ve saved up then I go to spend it all

So proud of you for speaking on this!
My brother has adhd and for a while my psychologist thought i was bipolar which is what i think what you were describing. There’s a lot of stigma but never be ashamed. Turns out i am not bipolar, i kinda had to just learn how to take things one day at a time, to feel my feelings, talk them about and pin point what is happening instead of pushing it aside. I started planning things out day by day and not over doing things. Resting when i need to and not adding more then i can handle. I have therapy weekly and i did an amazing seminar that is for personal growth and i learned a lot about myself, my personality type and i was able to get off meds.

There is so much stigma towards mental health.I'm glad you're using your platform to spread awareness about mental health. It is more common than people think.

    Alondra!
thank you so much for sharing about your battle. Depression and Anxiety and mental health in general is a real thing. I recently got diagnosed with clinical depression and God was truly the solution to all this. Allow his spirit to calm you. Take a day to meditate on his word and cast all your anxieties in his hands. Anxiety comes from thinking too much of what worries us and what we have to do next, take an hour a day in morning (works better to start you day) and mediate on his word. We are spirit, have a soul, and live in a body. We should be taking care of each part of us.
I really hope this can help you like it has me and so many others. I will keep you in my prayers.
    Blessings & love 🙏🏼

There’s so many symptoms so ADHD that most people don’t even know and took my years to even learn. The most common misconception is that you are super hyperactive but it’s all a spectrum everyone’s diagnosis is different. The symptoms I found made the most sense and related to that took me a long time to find out we’re even symptoms were, lack of energy, feeling irritable, short term memory, insomnia, mood swings that can sometimes be misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder. The list honestly goes on but it’s not the end of the world and it can be relieving when you sort of find the missing puzzle piece to help you understand yourself better.

I had been struggling with my mental health for such a long time & was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression back in November.
I was super scared of taking medication too. I literally had it sitting on a shelf at home for a whole month before I started taking them. I’ve been on it for 7 weeks and I can say its been the best decision I’ve ever made. I went from feeling so hopeless to feeling capable and more alive! It’ll take some weeks to adjust to your meds or even to take effect, so just hang in there they will work!
I’m not going to lie that it still worries me how long I will be on medication, but mental health is a journey and its something I’m coming to terms with. I do individual therapy, anxiety group, and a stepping stones class. I’m learning how to cope with my symptoms when they arise. I’m trying to heal my inner child as well. I like you want to be better for myself, partner, and son. We got this Alo 💓 much love and light!

Don’t feel embarrassed or that you’re any less than HUMAN. You just had a baby and that’s a HUGE change to your mental health not to mention your appearance. I appreciate you sharing this. So proud of you alo! I have ADHD, and this is exactly how I feel. I’m very messy (it’s because with ADHD, object permanence is an issue, so I have to see everything or I forget it exists) can’t concentrate, get very overwhelmed very easy, I forget EVERYTHING, and I don’t finish projects I start. I took up crocheting and it’s been the best thing ever!

So proud of you for sharing this part of your life with us. I hope you read this; its a bit long but I want you to know you are not alone. I want to let you know I was diagnosed in 3rd grade with ADD, I was put on medication at a young age and decided by myself to not take it anymore before college. It was the biggest mistake and I didn't realize it until last year. A lot of my struggles as a young adult (and now) are due to my ADD/ADHD (came to find out ADD is a form of ADHD, its just inattentive meaning we struggle more with our focus and not so much physically hyper) its how I understand it anyway... but medication works for some people and doesnt for other. its AMAZING that you're willing to give it a shot and find what works for you. Remember that YOUR path is YOUR OWN in every sense of life including ADD. I am now 25 years old and I haven't been on medication since I was 17, it would make my life easier trust me but I personally don't want to go into meds again unless the things I try to do in order to cope and control my life better doesn't work. I have been recently finding more influencers and videos on TIKTOK and RUclips that have been going on about ADHD / ADD and everything being spoken about relates to me and my life.. This mixed with my anxiety has taken a toll in my life overall and emotional sense as well. But knowing that there are other people out there going through it and having a community to lean on and feels the same way or goes through the same things . .. it makes me feel NORMAL. this is normal for us, don't feel not normal because you ARE normal being yourself.

I have massive anxiety. i just randomly forgot how to breathe so every time something is wrong in my body I always try to diagnose myself which makes me hyperventilate, went to my dr and he gave me anxiety meds and it boosted my anxiety even more so I fear meds so much because it’s the worst feeling, but also medication is a process in your body. Hopefully it makes you better! Best of Luck💖
