Oh my Lord, I remember buying this CD many years ago... I'm 61 years old and I have the complete collection of GU stuff in my CD collection... Unfortunately though, as I have aged so has my music tastes as I'm more into classical music now... But now and again I still test out the bass speakers on my hi fi with stuff like this.... Even my mum liked this genre of music, right up until she died 2 years ago....

Listening to this in my office right now... I was a raver in my early twenties when this was new. Have seen Digweed/ Sasha & Digweed live a few times. This shit was so far ahead of its time.

This mix is like an ageing wine, it gets better the older it gets.
You Just Read This Maybe no better example of that summary than the fact that I’ve listened to this mix, on and off, for 20 years - yeah, 20 years - but this is the first time I’m truly digging (no pun intended) it. Always preferred many other GU’s to this, but this is making me want to go back in time to sip that aged wine ;-)
Doing exactly that as we speak, it’s still a different level!!

I remember buying this in Times Square, then coming back home, throwing it on before hopping into the shower to get ready to go out, it blew my mind, took the cd with me to the club in the Bronx where my mate was a DJ and told him, play the intro,,,,,, hearing it on a full system was class

These disks blew my mind and changed my life. Yeah I know that sounds like a terrible cliché but this was one of those moments everyone talks about but is rarely earned. I had no idea that music could mean this much to me until I heard these sets. To this day when ever I play any of the love in traffic mixes I can feel that sunny afternoon I first heard this.
not a terrible cliche in that case! it is a fucking strong feeling we experienced from those releases back in the days. all new, all unbelievable amazing unforgettable and in fact lifechanging!
it always gives me the shivers when Love in Trafic fades in ... Everytime! It totally blew my mind off back then (I felt like i have to explode the first 1000 times i was listening to the cd ..which i did .. nonstop LOL)

We were very spoiled in the DC area during this golden era of EDM and raves. Sasha and Digweed were often headlining back then, this was icing on the cake for the drive to see them spin live at Nation club

22 years ago in 2001 I was 23, me and my friend went to a CD Release party at club icon in Orlando Florida, they gave us demo CDs of this album.
We are the exact same age! What a time to be a young person in the rave scene. I miss it.
@flamingcherryc I was lucky got to see digweed at The groove in city walk Orlando, at icon several times, saw him at hard Rock in Orlando, at house of blues and at Simon's in Gainesville florida , also saw Sasha and Paul oakenfold alot too.
More then 20yrs ego i had listened 019 first time. Today in 2022 I came back accenditly to those sounds after long absence. I hanged on 019, l have fallen to repeat mode listening and go deeper and deeper, and...... WOOW!!!. this set it is sill so thrilling, deep, dark, dancing - amazing atmosfer. Fx, delays, reverbs now propably sounds like classis or oldies or whatever. But hey! This set is cherry on the pie in golden age of alter club music parties.
BUT I have questioned my self - to have diffrent way of thinking - I had many a great expierance and memories with 019 and now wonder how much past, sentiments influance your today music feelings. There are propably 10k sets like this. Many pepole can claim that this or that one is better, etc. It's hard to tell... anyway John Digweed GB019 is a killer. One of the best GU ever :) Love to hear his selection and I am really impressed that from beginning to the end with smooth quality, each step is gently moving forward :D

Without a doubt one of the best mixes on the planet.
I know it's semantics, but associating the term EDM with this just makes me a little sad inside. We didn't call anything EDM back then, it's a daft term that encapsulates way too many sounds and has somehow defined a singular sound at the same time.
Progressive house. It's not techno, tech house, deep house, trance, break beat, etc. It's just progressive house at its absolute purist.
Digweed's JDJ is still the best dance mix ever!!

Love this mix it is truly one of the best in the GU series in my opinion disc 1 in particular. Every track is well thought out and mixed. As a fairly new dj at the time of this recording I bought every single one of these tracks on vinyl. These days I am very critical of the music that many of my go to dj/producers have gone to but it is what it is. I'm probably just old.

It's a solid seem less mix, and he is one of my favorite DJ's, next to Sasha (who has been transforming dance floors since the 80's), and the entire Wicked crew of San Fransisco, but the real genius lies with the original artists.

What I love about John Digweed is that each set back when these GU sets would happen is that the sound of the mix literally portrays the city his set was in. This one sounds like LA, his Hong Kong one sounds like Hong Kong etc... He's an amazing producer and DJ, best of both worlds!! LOVE John Digweed!! Solid!!!
During this time I lived a block around the corner of where this photo what shot (by the Sahara Hotel) in Hollywood, then went and saw JD and Sasha at the Mayan and it was INCREDIBLE!! was prob circa 2004, and it was one of the best nights of my life.

Digweed and his partner Sasha invented these long play DJ sets in the early 1990s. While his former partner Sasha ended up high as kite, Digweed went out and broke new ground. His intro here has not been bested. The rest of this set was just as epic.The Global Underground series simply ground to a halt once they released this killer x2 disc set. RIP.
yepp... to be fair dave seamans melbourne and deep dish moscow was pretty slick too. for me the real turning point was lavelle's barcelona, i really liked unkle, but that album stuck out like a sore thumb, then reykjavik was awesome, but again not fitting the catalog properly, toronto.. meh... a decent rehash of moscow, but nothing extra, then lavelle again with romania straight bad and it never recovered from there

it's a whole different experience to listen on headphones because then you can hear how sounds switch from left to right outputs and how some beats are only in the left while other beats are only in the right. definitely the best way to listen unless you're on a dancefloor!

+EpicEverythingDude75 that was the GU concept - a studio mix that represented the live show in some way. They're mixed from vinyl - you can hear cracks and pops on them. Digweed's more recent live mix CDs are live I belive.
These are studio mixes. Back then they would choose the tracks make the mix and then go on tour to promote it. The singles back then wouldn't show up on shelves til way after the tour so you bought a lot of CDS to have the music.
