    I bought the srixon zx7 and also the mizuno, and the callaway apex. The Wilson Cb's blew them away. The tungsten weighting at the bottom of the club made them so much easier to hit. It is also important to note that WIlson has more PGA tour wins than any other brand.

    I've played Mizuno irons for the past 30 years and love the feel of a forged club. For me, feel is the top factor, followed by dispersion, looks, then price. I don't get enough variance in distance when testing different clubs, so I don't consider it much. However, the cost of a set of Takomo forged CB's has my attention.

    Fellow Calgarian here my man. I went for an iron fitting at the end of the season and was between the Mizuno pro 223 and the srixon Zx7. Ended up with the zx7 just because I felt they were the slightly more forgiving and would be able to hit the 4 iron more consistently. Both were unreal for me. Nothing like Japanese steel imo. There used to be nothing but love for chromed-out shiny blades, which I never understood, because I've always felt the same way about the glare that you do. Most clubmakers have gone to a satin or brushed chrome finish, which I'm very happy about. Even without the glare issue, I just think it looks better! Mizuno kept it shiny with the 221, but all their other models are satin. Titleist has brushed chrome on their blades. I just picked up some used Srixon ZX7/ZX5 irons (combo with ZX5 in 5 and 6 iron) and the back is a mix of satin and chrome, but the face and everything at address is muted/satin. They look sharp and they feel fantastic. I was playing PXG 0211ST blades, but just wanted a tiny bit more help with some perimeter weighting. They're the business. New ones (Mk II) coming out next year, looks like.

    Interesting review for sure, I just had a fitting for new irons. I have the same club head speed as you with a 6 iron.
    Based on feel I ranked them:
    1: Taylor Made P7MC
    2: Titleist T 100
    3: Ping i230
    I wasn’t interested in players distance irons, so I didn’t try many of the other clubs as the lofts were strong and I’m not interested in maxing out distance with irons. I tried out Mizuno JPX tours and the Taylor Made P7MCs were still the tightest dispersion and best feeling.

    Just to give a defense for the wilson distance numbers compared to the callaway irons. A hollow body will flex and spring a bit more compared to a typical forged club. But i wouldn't expect 20 yds of difference between the two TBH.

    I went through and looked at all your data. If you look at carry consistency (the spread of worse to best), Ranked them 1 through 9, then looked at dispersion, ranked them 1-9. Your winner would be PXG. Followed then by Taylormade, then Callaway. Knowing you didn't like the Taylormade's really, I'd say toss up between PXG and Callaway, knowing Callaway might need 1 degree weak or so to get rid of that offset that is pulling it left for you.

    • @SDGolfGuy
      @SDGolfGuy Год назад

      you have 1.6% variance in distance in PXG, 2.47% in TM, and 2.66% in Callaway. Mizuno had 2.8%. You had significantly better distance control with the PXG...left and right can be lie adjusted.

    So this is twice ive watched this and coming from playing mizuno mp18 split set 3-5 in the sc and 6-pw in the mb( ive been a mizuno iron player most of my golf playing days just cant seem to find anything better) now after hitting the t100, t100 s , mizino pro 223 and 221 and apex pro 19. The titleist great clubs just didnt do anything bettet than my current gamers. The pro 221 where the exact same as my mp18 zero differences. The 223 on off centre hits performing better due to the technology. But the surprise was the apex pro they shocked me on how they felt and flew and everything. Now shock horror i did not buy them. I went to a different fitter then and went with the pro 223. Now they are great clubs but in my in opinion they should of stuck the same technology in the 8,9,pw as they do in the 4 to 7 iron. The gapping is weird compared to other irons ive tested.
    Long story im sorry i didnt pick up a set of the callaway apex pro. Still might. Mizunos perform well dont get me wrong but the scoring irons on them 8,9,pw need some work the more i play with them they dont sit right in my eye

I think it depends on the shaft, but even a 620MB and a T100 are poles apart in feel with the same shaft. The T100 is too click to be classed as a "great" feeling iron. It sounds awful.

    Enjoyed the test but the apex pro had no business in this category being the only hollow body. TCB would have been more appropriate. Also, it seemed with the titleist, it was more fade biased and because you like to see a draw, i think you fought that a bit and thats why you saw a few bad pulls. What even more interesting is almost everything is really good, can “work”, just comes down to looks, feel and of course price. Gotta set of Takomos and they are as good as anything out there at half the price.

    General comment/question - I really like your reviews but when you post long ones like this, which are really great, could you first do a high level summary of your findings and results? I know it spoils things a bit but it's tough when people might want to get the gist quickly of the review with out needing to skip around or invest 56 minutes to watch the entire thing. Keto up the work 👍
