Brandon, thanks for all your efforts and the great content. Started with the Gleaners and stayed with you throughout all your ups and downs. I think you have one of the best farming channels out there. Your fan from up north 👍🚜
Reminds me a lot of running a disk or scratcher with my grandfather's 4020 years ago... of course the 4020 didn't make the turbo whistle sound your 5020 makes. A bunch of good memories brought back by watching a video on youtube.... what a good way to spend a Saturday morning. Thanks for sharing!
You already know but for others: no oil pressure means rod and main bearing inserts lost their clearance (too much now),blowby means piston rings and or cylinder walls lost fit (rings wore past tolerance and same with cylinder walls). Cause? You'll find that when you take it apart. Maybe the oil pump, maybe not. Can be as simple as an in-frame: have done many over the years.
5020s running hard in 80 degree weather sometimes VAPOR LOCK2 the fuel pump. We use to go to the creek get some water pour over fuel pump back in business
I saw a post by Aurthor Jennings. I lived next door to a Floyd Jennings in NW Ohio. The picture of the stuck 5020 reminded me of a 5020 in my old stomping grounds and Floyd's 730 that almost every year we had to take our lighter Allises and pull him out if the mud didn't take but a couple spins if the wheels and the drawbar was in the dirt. Memories!!!!
I find rolling my fields and planting a cover crop every forth year helps with weeds. I had horrible cockaburrs in the field I bought a few years ago and no herbicide or really any other sprays and I've got the field back in shape pretty good. We bale the cover crop and plow the second growth under so there really isn't much loss in money on the odd years. We farm close to 6,000 acres and rotate all of our fields.
kinda sounds like our JD 2030. blow by, no oil pressure, no power. was the little gears in the oil pump. one cracked, the other one split in half . locked up the motor. we overhauled it. cheaper than replacing it
When plowing under lush grass like that do you have to wait several days for the grass to go through a heat before you can seed your crop. My dad always said that when plowing under green manure with a moldboard plow you did what you needed to get your seedbed ready but that the green material needed time to go through a decay heat usually 7 to 10 days Later
Excellent video Brandon :) hope 5820 John Deere tractor be simple fix for and be interesting what happened too ! Also yes feild work be interesting to work up before planter too and looking forward more videos too!
I believe on a 5020, the oil pump and injection pump are driven off the camshaft. Often times the gear teeth on the camshaft go bad and the oil pump will stop driving and the injection pump will get out of time.
When you hit that black land, that old tractor pulls down hard. Not seen such different land in one field. She is still a good tractor. She just needs parts. Maybe a lot of parts. I grew up with the 40 series John Deere Tractors. Didn't have need of the 50 series.
If ya think it the injector pump, throw a bucket of ice water on it when she's hot. If it fires back up, then that's the issue. Nice video , best of luck!😃
That stinks about the 5020. I know stuff happens especially when they sat for years but I know you’ll come up with a great game plan and it’ll be a fun project. That 619 and axle swap would be awesome. Great plowing video! Loved the shots from the plow. Really great to see it working. Thanks for sharing
Hi great video was just thinking why you never see anyone using a reversible ploughs when watching plough days on RUclips you never see one your recent plough day event no one was using one they’ve been very popular here in the U.K. and Europe for decades.
The 619 and axle mount dual swap would make for some AWESOME CONTENT! How about sharing Tylers youtube link in the description. Enjoyed the video, hope to see Wilson run the 5020 soon!
Thank you for the great videos I enjoy your channel and I'm wondering if you could do a story on that Mack 6 wheeler and some of the other trucks and tractors in the fence row thank you and God Bless you guys
Well, the old girl decided to give up the ghost. With the variety of soil types you farm, tractors can have a challenging life. It'll be interesting to see what kind of power conversion you dream up. Based on my experience with muck ground, you can be in to the belly in a partial turn of the wheel...not much fun to say the least. On the farm where I used to work, we also had some peat ground that had absolutely no body. You could see the ground moving several feet away just by jumping up and down.
Those poly mold boards are cool I was looking at some new steel ones and I can just buy a whole plow on auction for what it would cost just to replace them but I imagine the poly would be more affordable
You have some of the blackest best looking topsoil on one end then it turns to a more high percentage of clay red looking soil on the other there, which by Kentucky standards still looks good lol, but that black topsoil is best looking i e seen in a long time, just like bottom ground
I've been around 4020's and 5020's a lot of yrs I not sure what is going on with your 5020. That is a different view for me. When we plowed my view was from the tractor seat!!!
@@speng72 my family bought new F145’s in the late ‘60s and ran them on 3020s. They were good plows. Then in 1981 they bought new 4240 and new jd 215 tandem disk, and new 4440 with 2800 5btm plow...and yes that plow did an awful job plowing; the furrow would only roll 1/2 over. My dad went the opposite direction in ‘81 and bought new IH 1086 & 2 years later a new IH 720 5btm plow...THAT was an outfit; it would lap the 4440 outfit in the same field and do a spectacular job. Only negative I can see with ih plows was if they’re in rocky conditions and tripping a lot, the pins wore and they get SLOPPY and do a crap job. Also in heavy clay would not stay penetrated in ground. IH was also a little naive in the fact they put the same tail wheel and steering assembly on a 4 btm as they did on a 9 btm, which proved to be a weak spot. Guys in our area liked White plows. Heavily built, and laid a nice furrow, no matter the conditions.
About 20 or 25 years ago my buddy bought an American dragline from somebody over by Yellow river campground, hired a guy to run it to dig his pond and blew the motor "250 Cummins: Had a 115 ft of stick and we realized pretty quick that was too much!!!
Always loved Olivers, (and still believe they where the best :), but when John Deere finally released the New Germination Series, they were on to something. Coupled with White Motor Company's mismanagement of Oliver, IH's be "everything to everyone" misguided management attempt, and the market was ripe for JD. Great video!
Clay sod is tough plowing, that ground looks sandy and muck. Loved plowing sod with my JD60 and 3 bottom JD trailer plow. The view from the fender was beautiful, love watching a good plow roll sod! How is the fuel economy on the 5020 compared to one of your newer JD's of similar horsepower, like your soybean planting tractor?
With this video, I take note, that you have Swampy, marshy ground, as I do. I live on Md.'s Eastern Shore on CRANE Swamp Rd, in Queen Anne's County, and very often get stuck, on my swampy ground. I am new to your channel. Where are you located?
Youve gove trackhoes a gradall, which i operated ten yrs even a dragline too huh? You love any kind of excavation if you like a dragline!!! Thats only equipment besides a bobcat i dont want to learn. I loved a gradall tho, a dozer too and pans. Haul trucks not so much. Im from mountains of south east KY
You know you’re stuck when you’re 5020 stuck! I got mine stuck just once, thankfully the neighbor pulled me out with his White 2-180.
Oh my goodness. You have all those great classic John Deeres sitting outside exposed to the sun and the elements.

I always disc sod on an angle before I plow. It don't turn over but it sure plows up nice and makes it easier filling in the dead furrow.
Love the old school rod with a chain on the end guidance method. Tried and true. Who needs GPS ;)

Awesome! That things a beast! I’m surprised it ran as well and as long as it did just digging it out of the weeds.
Repower with an 8V-71 or a 903 or a 3408 or even a D346,Mack V8 or the dreaded 955 if you like things quieter
The video is really interesting and engaging
Great video love to watch vintage equipment work. Keep up the great videos and work.
Enjoyed watching ur video, looks like something I would enjoy for a few months
Bummer 5020 is down no oil pressure usually = work and $$$$. Like you said fun while it lasted for both you and us viewers keep us posted.

I had a 74 2030 loved that tractor
I love the old 5020 John deere work horses of their day and still going

Can't wait to see it running

Try adjusting the oil pressure!... it’s right next to the dip stick!

Doing an engine swap and axle mount duals to the 5020 would be an awesome RUclips video series!
Try cleaning the sump screen that filters all the small flacks or metal. It's to the right side under the ladder and just past your hydro filter.

Hey thanks for the great video, I am new to the channel and WOW it looks like you have enough equipment to start a dealership 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I can't believe someone still has a plow, I thought they were obsolete!
I've been around 4020's and 5020's a lot of yrs I not sure what is going on with your 5020. That is a different view for me. When we plowed my view was from the tractor seat!!!
Great show man.
Why so many good tractors sitting outside? Enjoyed the video gonna catch up on your other videos. Keep up the good work
The old johnny popper is sounding good
Those old plows do a beautiful job! Better than modern plows
Plow with a 710 international and then you know what a plow is supposed to do!!!! John deere never made a good moldboard plow!!!

@@speng72 you do know that Oliver/White built the plows for IH and Ford in the 70s and 80s
@@demontrain4438 I don't think you've got the right facts; yes, they did for Ford, but not IH.
Them 5020s had some problems. They are a beast of a tractor though.
That hemlock disked down nice. Satisfying to watch it disappear.
Really only a new farmhand would bury the rear tires that deep. Unless someone was distracted on Facebook.
Now that the John Deere motor is done it would be a good candidate to put a 12v71 Detroit in it!
Where are you located? Hearing those old diesels running is exciting. I'm an IH man, but old iron is the way to go.
Knox,Indiana yeah there is something pleasing about running these old machines!
Yes sir. We can still work on those girls.

Praying you can straighten it out.
Your so right about the poison hemlock. It's popping up everywhere. Awful stuff
Poison ivy too. I hardly seen it as a kid and see it all over now.
That the thing about cats when they are inside they'our loveable and affectionate but when they're outside they pretend they don't know you..,..
You need a Parma ground hog after you plow makes a great seed bed to plant in
Best way to build a channel is sound quality, subscribers spend less than half their time watching and all their time listening.
Piękne traktory 🙂 Jestem rolnikiem z Polski, moja pasja to maszyny marki John Deere. Moim marzeniem jest zobaczyć farmę w USA.
Too bad about the 5020, it was sounding really good. Things break down in time, no matter what. Always did love plowing.
It might be time to put a barn up lol and I can find one near u get a off set cutting disk like we youse down Here in the south
OH NO! Get out the CHECK BOOK!🤑 Be interesting to see what happened!👍😎

Can you explain the IH comment? Genuinely curious as it was CNH by the time I knew it.
The dump truck, is that a Mack "R" model? I want to see more of the old JD's, like the 2 cylinders!
The hell with the 5020. show more of the 730

Nice one
If you put a leanth of old drive belt on furrow maker instead of chain it wont jump around so mutch
Dam its doing good job
Plow cam, perfect roll
Good video
no video is complete without a Wilson appearance
Nice video
That looks lika a twa jd cutting harrow
Is that a homemade guide to position your wheels for the plow that I see hanging off the front of the tractor?
Yes
Hy Could you do a maschinery tour
What’s the yellow mold boards?
Poly shares to make it pull easier and reduce wear.
Do not hack that tractor all to hell with engine swaps unless the stock engine is unrepairable!!
If you need help with the 5020 go to South Sask Farmer. He rebuilds 5020’s all the time. On You Tube.
Might be time for a 8v92 swap lol
Right tie Rod end is excessively loose…
It's excessively junk lol and obsolete through Deere I have to make them
