Our hammer mill used one of these motors. The high light of my day was starting it up at 5 am. You could hear that thing wind up a half mile down the street.
The motor noise is the least concern if they can hear the motor starting up by itself. When a hammer mill is crushing scrap it makes a noise like if there was a waterfall of metal scrap thundering down from at least 100 meters. Its insanley loud so I say poor neighbours living close to that. It’s 231Amp line current in Y configuration. In Delta configuration is 400Amp . So no idea where you got the 1600Amp from. Meter even reads only up to 800A .
I agree. When I was younger I used to think "wow, a Corvette can make enough power to run a Wal-Mart" Not sure if that's actually true, but it seems plausible. 😃

The reason why the corvette can’t pull as much as a semi is because it’s first gear doesn’t amplify its torque nearly as much as a semi’s first gear does. But if you swapped a 500hp corvette engine into a 300hp semi, the semi would accelerate faster and have a higher top speed.
We have a 263kw motor but sure as he'll doesn't start like this. It has a vfd which stops that over current draw. Not sure why one hasn't been installed here yet cause it sure helps with the life of the motor
big motors need to be on 4160 if at all possible. they ramp up so much quicker. we have 3x 900hp motors at work that ramp to full speed in under 5s on their starters. they pull about 400amps at 4160 on startup. it's wild

Y’all should see when they fire up the mixer motors for the banbury’s at BF Goodrich. I don’t know the wattage but they run on 4160v and have two of them connected shaft to shaft to spin a gearbox

I don't know what's wrong with the title and what is shown in the vid. Current meter shows 120 amps (0:50) at terminal rotation speed and the title says 400v, so the power rating comes to 400x120=48000watts, so 48000/1000 gives 48kW. How 160 kW?
The title is all wrong, if it really operates at 400 volts, this means when the motor settled on approx 150 amps in the video it consumes about 60 kw, and started up at 350 amps or 140 kw, so it is completely far from 160 kw because the power of motors is originally measured when settling, not during starting up
I would say it is drawing more than 400 amps for a little while if you read the description is says about it drawing 1600 amps but that can’t be displayed easily

Yes. Nominal power is 160 kW but because there is no work load, motor takes only 120 amps at the beginning (after motor is started). sqrt(3) x 400 V x120 A = 83,1 kVA.

It draws 400A, 133A per Phase when its running (400V), thats 160kW, like the Video says. If you would read the description, it draws about 533 Amps per Phase at start (400V, too)! Thats 1600A and 640 kW. I dont know how you get the idea that a 400V motor would run at a lower voltage, you always run a motor at a constant voltage and change its power by regulating the amps.
@@gabrielv.4358 sure you have 110/220V at home just like the USA, but if you visit a factory in Brazil you will see that they have 400V power for all their big motors. In Europe we just run the same voltage both at home and in factories: 240/400V. 240V is for all regular wall sockets, 400V for our water heaters, well pumps etc.

Came across a 100 hp with ramp speed setting way too fast on vfd. Belts sounded like a car doing a burnout on start up .

we have a 600kw motor for a compressor. When the engine is started, the light in the entire system briefly dims.
you should see our bowthruster motor get into 1200A when we maneuvered and almsot crashed to berthed fishing vessels

4160 is considered “medium voltage”. I toured a few manufacturers over the years with these. I didn’t even want to look at them!

It doesn't have a soft start. It's a big-ass blower with a lot of inertia, and a wye-delta starter.
