- Sam Wilson a.k.a The Falcon entered Marvel Comics in the late 60s in the page of Captain America. He would become a landmark character and an integral part of the Marvel universe ending up as co headliner of the title and of course joining the Avengers (who hasn't). Before The Falcon and The Winter Soldier before the MCU even before he became Captain America he was teaming up with Steve Rogers to take down the Red Skull...and the Cosmic Cube was involved. Wait, he raised pigeons and the latched on to falcons. What did he feed his new falcon?! Was it the pigeons?!?!?!
Yes.
@@niauropsaka Falcons mostly eat birds.
Either that or he fed himself the pigeons.
The beauty of having a video on The Falcon interupted by a Falcon ad.
Not an ad for Secret Invasions? Weird.
"I guess that quote isn't so bad for the time."
"This interview is from 2008."
loooooooooooooooooooooooooool
To be fair though, artists can be weird like that. I've had a sculptor say some really awkward things about my skin and eyes that would have sounded so out of place if I didn't know his job was to pay ridiculous attention to detail when it comes to people.
@@AesculapiusPiranha I also give old people a pass on statements like that. MUCH Better than if he said "I love drawing those people" or worse.
Yeah, that first quote came off a little "Noble Savage-esque" as my aunts would say, "Chiiiiile". 🤣😂
Lots of Falcon’s backstory has been circling around the net with the drop of his new series. No surprise Sasha’s is the best & most complete.
I made the Michael Scott classic cringe wince when I heard the "I loved drawing black people" line.
Sam wearing green, for his favorite bird, the Emerald Falcon. Man, that look was so 70's... Just thankful he didn't stick with Pigeons.
Prison Mike will set you straight
Pro trick : watch series at Kaldrostream. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Aryan Derek yea, have been watching on Flixzone} for years myself =)
"deus ex MODOK" got me.
Also, it's so interesting that Falcon didn't even have wings to start out, given that that would become his defining characteristic as a superhero.
We better get a "In Fact we should disband while we have the chance"
That was definitely Red Skull's goal with ruining Cap's reputation.
We did, and more. We got a;
"You can't handle the cube!", plus an "on your left!", Wolverine with a lapful of hot coffee, and a couple more.
Our Sasha cup runneth over today! ❤🏆
The whole wolverine getting coffee thrown on him cracked me up. You said it as such a throw away line but it’s one of those things that’s like WAIT NO PLEASE ELABORATE! lmao
So in uncanny X-Men number 127 the team is fighting against proteus and it doesn't go well and cyclops in his infinite wisdom to get wolverine to I don't know rally him throws hot coffee at him as one does when you're the leader of a team of superheroes and then they get into a fight right afterwards
@@lucasshaver7789 that is just weird and hilarious I love it lmao
@@grottosandgremlins Just because he can heal from nearly anything doesn't excuse throwing coffee at him. I mean honestly
@@lucasshaver7789 To be fair, at the time, Logan was actively trying to get with Jean Grey and almost constantly undermining Scott as both a leader and a human being. And this was before 90's/00's writers turned him (Scott) into a punchline/psychopath.
I had these issues when they first came out, and I dare say Gene Colan's artwork still stands as the most dynamic ever put to paper. This put me right back in time!
I love how just based on the poses on Cap you can tell it's not him lol well we the readers can people in universe oblivious as heck.
@@CasuallyComics Yes! Colan's figures had such panache. I love Jack Kirby, too, but I remember being really bummed when he stepped back in. Thanks, Sasha!
Say hi to my grandpa for me!
The way it comes across is 'interesting' that's the best way i can put it. I agree Sam is a nice guy, but i would watch him around birds.
To be fair, Sam is a lot more mentally healthy and honest about his bird obsession, compared to Batman and his bat-theamed everything...
Yeah but his relationship with Redwing kinda comes off as like a childhood pet of stuffy bear kinda thing rather than a "I wanna get with them birds" relationship
Sasha's comments about no one noticing a character's personality changing after being mind swapped had me snickering in agreement, especially in light of the "Superior" Spider-Man a few years ago.
"I love drawing black people"
booooy lol, I appreciate the sentiment
Now I desperately want to see a comic featuring Cap (or the Red Skull) eating a flag & growling like a feral cat....
It makes me bust my gut when people complain about Marvel promoting gender and race issues today when Stan Lee outright stated his preference for trying to do that since the 60s.
The difference is that in the 60s they made characters now days they make caricatures. If someone didn't like a character no big deal life goes on, now days you are an ist or phoebe and try to cancel you.
@@blackrazer22 I don't know what kind of people the Phoebes you know are but the ones I'm friends with would never do that.
@@GabePuratekuta unfortunately the ones you don't know would.
@@blackrazer22cancel culture’s not a thing, touch grass
this dumbass is out here saying Kamala Khan is a caricature
"I loved drawing black people" I never knew that could be so funny 🤣
I'm sure there must be a more cringey line out there.
So I think we need to get Sasha her own Cosmic Cube to show the villains how to use it correctly.
“I do what he does, only slower”.
-Sam Wilson on Steve Rogers
Yes,it's strange you were more worried about how Steve got away than the Red Cap. I actually got pissed too because the Cap Skull was using the cube wrong, "just give it to me"🤣
Sasha's eye makeup in this video is the bomb!!
The "Cosmic Cube" is way to powerful. I to always thought it was weird how no one tried to do something like "Emperor Joker" like thing with it, at the very least...
Just like in Civil War, the New Yorkers instantly recognize it about each other within moments of coming into contact.
I might be seeing paralels when there isn't one. But Falcon's eagerness to help downtrodden people reappears in Winter SOldier when he opens his front door to a dishevelled Cap and Widow. Though admittedly helping others is the most common trait among heroes
I feel like they wrote that as an homage to his origin just helping cap out in a jam
Goes to show that Cap's one weakness is superhero name originality!
Given the name Captain America? Check.
Suggests The Falcon for a newfound friend who happens to be a falconer? Check.
Chance to create a new name after quitting as Captain America and goes by Nomad, because he became nomadic? Check.
Chance to make a better name after quitting again as Captain America, but goes with The Captain? Check.
You're forgetting that he also named his original sidekick Bucky, Bucky - a nom de guerre guaranteed to baffle German intelligence.
Like Nedor Comics' Black Terror and his sidekick, er, Tim.
3:35 I loved that comic, the Exiles. It was like the tv show Sliders, but with super powers.
Never read the story but that premise sounds awesome.
Your makeup and outfit aesthetics are ✨ g o d t i e r ✨
Sa-shaaaa, the Red Skull NEVER uses the cosmic cube effectively. He has way too much arrogance/hubris to formulate a coherent plan (re: time he made golden armor for himself)
Sasha, oh dear! The "slightly uncomfortable, let's read it together" had me rolling. I love the way you revel in the cringe like it a fine wine to be savored an experienced, then mocked.
Speaking of Cap taking art lessons, one day you should do a video of when he moved to Brooklyn and worked as a freelance commercial artist! I loved when they tried to give Steve a normal life, but it didn't last. He even had a Jewish girlfriend (Bernie), and I can't think of any other Jewish gfs or bfs in comics!
I'd love/hate to hear what certain people must have thought back then upon learning that America's flagship hero was dating a Jewish person.
I don't know about bfs and gfs, but in terms of heroes, Kate Kane (Batwoman) and Rory Regan (Ragman) are both Jewish.
@@ashleytuchin7693
And The Thing.
Kitty Pryde is Jewish, though you’d never know it from the comics or movies anymore. I think Marc Spector/Moon Knight is too, but I’m not 100% sure .
Also Kitty Pride of the X-Men.
"Deus Ex Modok" brilliant! you never fail to make me laugh, yours is one of my favorite channels! the problem with reality warping power is the lack of imagination, both on the part of the villain and of the writer, alas. see also: Doctor Doom with power cosmic, doctor Doom with Beyonder's power etc.
Yay The Falcon comic book talk and shout out to The Exiles. Good stuff. Can you please cover The Exiles comic book in a video?
Definitely looking towards more Falcon. He kind of took over the book for awhile which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, as the stories were pretty good and gave Falcon a pretty decent character development, that awkward retcon not withstanding.
He was an older guy with his heart in the right place. Put the words into context and he’s clearly got no malice.
I agree, but intent doesn’t erase how the statement makes people feel.
I think it's interesting that Sam's origin is so tied in with Steve, not just in the basically instant establishment of their bromance, but in Steve literally being the one who decides Sam should become a superhero and masterminding his costume and codename. If this came out now, I suspect we'd see some criticism about how that undermines Sam's independence as a character, but at the time I can't help but wonder if Marvel was worried about potential controversy and wanted to in a sense 'legitimize' Sam through his association with Steve. Like if Captain America not only approves of an African-American superhero but is actively making it happen, the readers might be more likely to jump on board too.
Yes please. we definitely need “exiles” please do it!!
They should’ve kept the Sam Wilson: Bird Enthusiast for the movies/show. Also it seemed like Red Skull just wanted to vacation in Cap’s body rather than do anything villainous
Considering that the Cube becomes more aware over time, I'd be too afraid to use it from fear that I'd eventually create a near unstoppable monster if anything goes wrong.
That Daily Bugle headline! They always know what's really up!
If I had the cube, I'm making a giant comic collection room, with every single comic to exist. It would be like a library, but people don't have to return the books because I could just make more of them. Screw it, why not just make people able to get any book they want.
Seems like Red Skull is defeated by his own lack of imagination. Armed with a magic wishing cube that can do anything he does stuff like make Cap fall out of a tree, rather than turn him into a bug, and tries to ruin his reputation by... being a bit rude to random people.
I love the Daily Bugle joke
11:20 Cap's legs in these two panels are freaking me the hell out and I truly hope I'm not alone on this.
7:41 I had to ask the same thing during "Superior"(inferior) Spider-Man when Ock was controlling Peter's body.
You have got to do a video on The Exiles. That book was so underrated and so amazing! AoA Blink is one of my favorite characters.
Underrated by whom? I’ve never read or heard anyone who’s actually read the entire run speak negatively about it
@@210SAi maybe underrated is the wrong word, I just don’t hear many people talk about it.
I hope someday we go back to that unfortunate hal Jordan thing you mentioned, I really want to know about the MANY mistakes they retconned out of memory (even when they will make me really upset)
All deference to the red and white costume, I liked the green and orange! Very festive and refreshingly not all primary colors. But when he “upgraded” to the red and white, it was like going from a Chevy Impala to a Corvette. Both good, but one was a little more slick and dynamic. Another first: though he was pre-dated by Black Panther, Falc was the first black character (male) to get ther own Mego action figure! The only other (that I recall), was Lt. Uhura from Star Trek.
And yes, there was another cube that was way more cosmic! But what I really want to know is whatever happened to Redwing?
Also, while talking debuts, when did Robbie Robertson first appear? While not a superhero, he was a quiet uncommon depiction of an educated black man in respected position of prominence. Running a newsroom, calming Jonah’s irrational (undiagnosed?) outbursts, and keeping Peter on the responsible straight and narrow.
In any case, so much history! As it happens, tonight I’m viewing the latest version Falcon, & the Winter Soldier. Though equal, look who gets first billing now!
I remember this kids show I watched as a kid called “The Super Hero Squad” where Falcon was sort of the main character. I think he also had a romance with the Scarlett Witch.
Linkara: THE COSMIC CUBE CAN DO ANYTHING
like eat a Twinkie from the inside out
I like the fact that Sasha shows how much Red Skull's actions bothered her in this video
3:22 I love the Exiles!!!
I first heard of falcon on "the superhero squad show" im like, yo his costume is dope!... but who tf is this dude?? Haha
I don't know, but "Deus ex Modok-y" was my favorite line this video. Your analysis and coverage of comics themes are incomparable. Ach do leiber!
Why is Sasha so adorable? Great video!
Red Skull with the cosmic cube is the explanation for every confusing Captain America thing. Falcons origins? Red Skull with the cosmic cube. Cap's an agent of H.Y.D.R.A? Red Skull with the cosmic cube. Thanos, of all people has had less interaction with a cube.
Ps. I know this is off topic but I ship Thanos Warlock
Thanks for the breakdown Sasha. Loving the eyeshadow ( now that I know to look for it).
I thought i would get a cool origin story about Sam Wilson, but instead, got a book about Red Skull being incompetent
"No! No, man! It's not Snap Wilson! My name is "A Pimp Named Snap Wilson!" What is yo' problem sucka?!" - Sam Wilson, circa 1970 something. Probably.
Gezz, artist lines made him sound like villain from "Get Out".
The big issue in the story is that the cube should have had to be removed from Skulls hand to neutralize it as a threat. And you have a creature in the story that could swoop in and do that. Just have San single the bird to grab the cube and then have Sam realize what it can do and then have AIM destroy the cube. Then you have the “secret” of who made the cube at the end and the new hero using powers (aka a bird) Cap does not have forms a lancer role for the new hero. Set up a non-sidekick but friendship dynamic.
Imagine how greatly more pissed MODOK was when he saw that AIM not only created a cosmic neutralizer but also only used that neutralizer to beat out the Red Skull once and never even tried to revert MODOK back to his human form
7:55 the body swap (or possession) and no one notices thing... they did this so many times in Smallville.
My favorite through line these last few vids is Rick being bullied.
I like how flamboyant Sam’s poses are
Don't think I missed that Futurama reference "Eat a flag" lol
lol classic Zoidberg
I can make a four course meal for one hundred people with all this salt!
And I'm loving it hahahaha! And completely agree! Glad they took the cube away. Don't know how to play, will not have it.
Falcon and his introduction seems awesome. Really like it!
(Also, no one will talk about "big daddy" at 12:40? Just me? Ok. Even if it's a super villain's name, c'mon! Why? Lol)
Thanks for giving spotlight to the Falcon. I was wondering if you were going to use an accent for the Red Skull.
Oh let's talk about The Exiles!!!! Love that concept, most of the stories and the art
Another great vid. I love the voices lol.
If you told me you were going to do two colors of eye shadow on each eye i would have tried to talk you out of it, but Sasha makes it work.
I am not a big fan of any of the Captain America characters. I just like to support this channel.
Favorite Sasha quote: "Just give me the cube. You are doing it wrong!"
Honestly, it would've been more realistic if The Cube couldn't be utilized properly by the Red Skull, either as a safety-feature that was added because the other guy couldn't trust him, or because he was in some way incompatible.
And the reason for him quitting the, "let's give Captain America a bad name plan" could have been because people were suspicious of him when he acted out of character.
Also, the green outfit was a nice one, but they needed a slightly different shade of orange.
OMG watching this again I just noticed the EXILES mention, I love EXILES
As a matter of fact that green costume was quite the shock. Just....wow XDXDXDXD
Will Tony disband while they have the chance today? I can't wait to find out!
Why do you even *have* a reality altering cube?! I know, right?! It's like time travel. "Don't change too much!" Then why am I time travelling?! Go big or go home!
Remember that scen from Spider Man 2 where JJJJr wears the Spider-Man costume pretending to be him?
Red Skull is actually jealous of Captain America... this proves it
8:05 finally, somebody who gets me
I've always thought that the cosmic cube suffers from a slightly different version of the "Superman problem" that DC has had to deal with. Here you have the all-powerful thingy whatsit and the only way that anyone opposing the person possessing this incredible power has any chance winning is if the person using the cube commits a series of increasingly stupid mistakes that can be exploited by the heroes. That trope has been frustrating me for years. Also, I like Sam's Red and White costume much more than this one.
I love Exiles! Morph is my favorite!
Can you do a Blue Beetle origin. He's always been confusing for me and I like the way you word stuff.
old school or new school !
@@meikorules1 More like Dan Garret, Ted Kord, or Jaime Reyes?

I just love your videos, always good for a laugh.
MODOCK " I am science I am glorious!"
I just love watching her talk goth/nerd vibe
Sasha!
Love your Jack Nicholson impression!!

Steve Holliday
I'm trying to wait to see anything falcon related until I watch the first episode of falcon and winter soldier to avoid spoilers but I couldn't resist one of your videos lol
Good video! Is that a plaid shirt worn backward?
Maybe they didn't think twice about Red-Cap not being Steve because Commie Smasher Cap was still in their memories.
I'm curious if the people who operated as Cap while Steve was on ice will ever be brought up in the MCU. I think it would be a natural story to do.
Old school Falcon reminds me of Koko B.Ware.
Sascha, you're missing the obvious explanation for why Skull gets it wrong so often:
Because reasons!
I love the Exiles! The Blink & Nocturne ones, I don't know who these guys in the video are...
I guess Stan would give you a No-Prize for noticing the plot holes.
The best thing about the exiles is Cadavus, Monarch of the Murder chair! Seriously, it's a Murder Chair! You can't beat that.
I love the murder chair but I can't cheat on Batman sitting in Metron's chair lol
Hi Sasha. Been a fan since top ten need. I would love to hear you talk about the Exiles. One of my faves!
I love this channel. Funny how it seems someone thought “THE” Falcon was weird, but his Intimate relationship with redwing got a green light?
Had to finally subscribe✊🏿
12:55 That explains a lot
I stealing ‘we’re having a montage ‘ 😂🤣😂
Falcon and the Winter Soldier made Red Wing into an AI Drone. Which makes more sense for the work Sam does in the MCU. Could you imagine the mostly grounded MCU having Sam send a literal falcon in to take out a military grade helicopter. Lmao
Civil War made Redwing a drone
I get why what the artist said could be seen as "othering" but at the same time I understand that artists see the world a bit differently then the rest of us do.
He was also born in a different era, and his perspective is tied to that.
I think that if asked he'd have interesting or positive things to say about various ethnic groups, races and peoples.
