If Aunt Mae is making Peter eat sandwiches of cottage cheese and mashed string beans, I guarantee you Peter did not "forget" his lunch. He left that well-intended abomination behind on purpose!!!
Sounds like an anime that I might watch. (Actually, aren't there several versions of "Battle Maids" in Anime? The only one I can remember off-hand is the one in _Black Lagoon._ )
@@tarmaque black butler if I remember right is about a young boy who contracted to a demon and the demon is his butler. I may be off cause I didn't watch it.
The way Peter talked about his lunch makes me feel like he knows what Aunt May thinks about him and he goes along with it on purpose to make her feel needed. It's like he's trying to give her someone to care for since she doesn't have Uncle Ben anymore
In the original comics we don't see May treating Peter like this until after Ben dies. When he's still alive she (and Ben) are treating him like a normal teenager, not warning him to wear an extra sweater or to take an umbrella because it might rain. So it really could be the loss of Ben that causes her to dote on him so much.
was about to say that "words do have meanings outside their use in porn you know" ..but seeing how google produces two pages of nothing but sex related hits, I guess the battle has been lost for this one. First non-sex hit btw was Squirt soda.. "Whether you’re serving Squirt poolside or enjoying a yummy Squirt mixer, the citrus-flavored favorite is a guaranteed good time. Check out all the tasty Squirt variations below."
My favorite Aunt May story was the Civil War arc where the Chameleon tried to kill her after Peter outed himself as Spider-Man. Let’s just let that sink in: Aunt May single-handedly took down a supervillain *in canon!*
I love "What If?" stories, I remember one where there was a Venom-Hulk and a Vemon-Thor. "What if Spiderman kept his six arms?" was fun too. I think we need a modern spider-man character with six arms.
Technically there is a six arm spider-man but probably not what you are looking for. He goes by Doppelganger, fairly mindless and evil but is kind of the what if Peter had kept to the arachnid nature that he was turning into during the six arm saga.
@@lagbait3076 There wasn't a "six-arm saga" in the comics - I wonder if you're thinking of the 90s animated series when he gained extra arms. Originally Peter took a serum to rid himself of his spider-powers, but instead it gave him 4 extra arms. It only lasted for 2 issues. Doppleganger is Spidey's duplicate from the Infinity War mini-series where the evil Warlock (the Magus) created evil dopplegangers of all the heroes. They all disappeared at the end of IW but Spidey's stuck around for "reasons".
I just binge-watched this entire channel. As a Gen-X comics geek, I appreciate the history breakdown. There's so much focus on comic book-derived movies and streaming shows that the history of where this all came from is getting lost. Thanks for this and looking forward to future videos.
Spider-Ma'am has returned in the Spider-Geddon: Vault of Spiders story line and in the Miles Morales recent Spider-Verse #2. She is always a delight, thank you for making this.
I love Spider-Ma'am! Did they even go into how she saved Ben from the burglar? I haven't read this issue in awhile. Also, I love how Ben and Peter are her "tech support" in her recent appearances. P.S. I love What If: for awhile there in the 1990s, it was the only comic book that my local Walgreens sold monthly, so the title has a special place in my heart.
Technically all of this story took place on the same day that Peter originally got bit by the spider. Ben isn't killed by the burglar until weeks later.
love what ifs, they're quick inspiring thought experiments without all that soap opera. 8:00 maybe obvious but just to put it into words, frailness of Peter in this story was mirroring the originals where it was interesting added tension to keep crime fighting a secret from the recently widowed elderly aunt May because she couldn't have taken the stress
I've always wondered just how old Aunt May is. She's drawn as if she's on the high side of 100, but then how old were Peter's parents when they had him? May is the sibling of either his mother or father, and being most siblings are within two to four years of each other, and Peter is a high school student of around sixteen years, were his parents in their sixties when he was conceived? Senior pregnancies do happen from time to time, but weren't they also spies?
I implore you to read Untold Tales of Spider-Man -1 that takes place before Peter was born and revolves around Peter's parents. His parents look like they're in their thirties but Aunt May and Uncle Ben look just as old as they are in Amazing Fantasy 15, it's extremely confusing. I love it.
OMG! I had this comic as a kid when it first came out! It has always been one of my favorite what if comics, second to “what if Beast kept mutating.” (Please do a video on that one-the ending is soooo melancholy)
Reading What If! when I was younger was traumatizing. I was not used to things going awry for my heroes and it threw me for a loop. Now a days, I can't get enough of them.
OK, I’ve been trying to avoid making this comment because your wit and commentary on comics both classic and new is wonderfully cogent; I truly enjoy your insight but dammit, your lipstick is consistently on point! Also, your Aunt May voice will always make me laugh. Out loud, even.
By all means, the more What If?!! the better. The entire MC2 universe sprung out of a What If?! about if Peter and MJ's unborn child who died during the Clone Saga had lived, and is a favorite of mine. I loved your Aunt May voice. Lol!
ha ha ha ha that big ole "CHOMP"!!!!! the BOMB!!!! Sass-sha, your What-If retrospectives are great, please continue diving into those dusty old boxes, MAD LOVE Woman! God bless, and PEACE.
I have always loved the What If comics. One of my favorite What If comics was What if Spider-Man had kept the power of Captain Universe. That was a really good one.
Long time fan of What If's I also really liked eXiles, the time they took the What If worlds and created a super team to go from world to world. I'd love to see the MCU play around with that idea, but two of it's big arcs feature Hyperion so there's some possible issues there.
I read this when it first came out (yeah, I'm an old OLD man). I had just started reading What IF with issue 20. I actually like this story, it had kind of a Spidey Super stories meets 60's Adam West Batman feel to it. Admittedly they were a bit over the top with the whole meek and frail pre-bite Peter. Did I say a bit? I meant a LOT over the tip with that, but it was fun. Although I did wonder how often she would be able to screw up baking bread in the same way to keep herself stocked up on web-dough. web-bread? But then I have always been more curious than cautious. To be honest this story was almost silly enough to have been included in Issue 34, the one done by Fred Hembeck...ALMOST. All in all, despite a couple of glaring plot holes it was a really fun story and kind of left me wanting to know more about that particular world.
"they were a bit over the top with the whole meek and frail pre-bite Peter." Actually this is straight out of the early ASM stories. 'The Web Spinster.' That may be the greatest wordplay Marvel has ever achieved.
When Peter eventually has children, she could be called Spider-Gran!
There is Mayday Parker if that counts

Fuck the hell yes!
Marvel Team-up#137 I say as I came to make this same comment. Marvel definitely needs to bring back Assistant Editor's Month.

I will recite a quote from a reader who wrote to What It's editorial section.
"What if WHAT IF was WHAT FOR and if not why not?"
I feel like I've been waiting for this video for months, it was awesome and I live for the old lady humour 😂
Peter Parker at his most Steve Urkel yet. All this tale needs is Aunt May skittering across a ceiling like that grinning devil granny from Exorcist 3.

Off topic (sorry), but please do a video on Invincible!! I saw the compendium on your desk in an earlier video... Greatest Superhero comic ever!!!
uncle ben just snoozing throughout the story
