    I’m 67 and 5’1 and a size10 and curvy. I sew a lot of my clothes because I have a hard time finding anything that doesn’t look frumpy or like an old lady. I haven’t tucked a shirt in pants or pleated pants since I was in my 30’s. But I hate long tunics that you see a lot of. Makes my legs look even shorter. I like crop tops but I don’t want something that will show my belly. I also find the knit tops that are twisted in the front too with a maxi skirt.

I've lost the weight I put on over my late 40's and now weigh the same as I did when I was 17. For the first time in my life I'm not minding wearing belts!!

It pays off! In three months, I toned my arms so that the batwings are gone, baby, gone! I don't have an aches, pains, diseases, illnesses, ailments, and I don't take any medications. To stay healthy, I've learned that I must WORK HARD to be healthy!

    You mentioned cardigans which is great but I don’t like the trendy one that looks like an old Chanel one. Those are so ‘old lady’ 80’s to me. They were trendy on the 80’s hit show Dynasty. To me, those are very aging. I would still like to see more examples of how to wear summer layer items like a cardigan with dresses. Or perhaps a button up shirt? The one I’m considering is in cotton gauze. My style is much more ‘natural’ as I wear only linen dresses in the summer and I like them long, ankle length. Short, cropped cardigans don’t look good with long flowy, linen, ‘ natural or organic style. At least I can’t figure out a style of cropped cardigan that would go. Obviously the one you showed would not. I think longer ones do work with it. I know you probably only have your clothes and style to work with to show us examples but it sure would be nice to see your tips in other ‘styles’ as we don’t all have your style taste or lifestyle. Perhaps you could show examples of your tips in other styles using Pinterest photos as I’ve seen other RUclipsrs do. I’m finding it more challenging to apply a lot your tips because my style is so different than yours and I’d never wear many of the items you suggest or I can’t find them. Hopefully just some constructive feedback.

      The Chanel-like jackets and cardigans are back in style. If they flatter your shape, ignore the 80s and give them a try. For a more natural look -- are we talking Kibbe? -- try a cotton or linen shirt worn as a cardigan over your dress. I'd add a belt or tie it at the waist for waist definition. Look at what Jennifer Aniston or Melissa McCarthy wear for casual fashion if you're a Kibbe Natural body type like me.

    I am so tired of casual clothes on everybody for every occasion - it is aging and does nothing to make one look better/more pulled together. I have what I call an uniform. I have multiple pencil skirts I wear with cardigans and kitten heels (really like the shoe line you talked about - VIVAIA). Though simple I get lots of compliments but most of all I feel comfortable and stylish. Lastly I agree with you concerning ankle pants. I wear these for super casual days. We all need to find an "uniform" we like and looks great and then get multiples. Thanks for great tips.

    QUESTION: Why are manufacturers creating so many dresses and styles with the back out...and zero support in the bust area. We are grown women. We deserve BETTER. At least Lululemon (despite their flaws) is creating tops with bras in them, to justify all of the new styles they are introducing. They make sure that you see value in the new items they are bringing out lately. Unlike many dress manufacturers who create all of these beautiful halter and "back out" styles that cost $500, yet you STILL have to invest in a "special" bra, or invest in having them altered, etc. It's TRASH behavior and shows zero concern/respect for womens bodies, financial investments, economical contributions, and support of their products and brands.

    I absolutely do not agree with the negativity around wide leg printed flowy pants. They are,in fact, very stylish if well-made and with a beautiful design. High-end designers are making and selling them for very high prices. They need to fit around the waist and through the top of the hip and flow from there. They are fantastic when dressed-up with a lovely, heeled sandal or wedge and a silky, well-fitted top.

    I think the biggest factor to dressing in a way that "ages" you is to wear the wrong color for your skin and hair. Buy a set of pantone post cards (not the real ones the 100 post cards of random colors) and take 100 selfies with each color by your neck in front of a white background (white sheet works). Look at them and you'll see which colors make you shine. Find celebrities that look similar to you and see what looks good on them. Note also what doesn't work on them! Not all this advice will be good for everyone. Find what is good for you.

    Good advice but there are ways to make some things work like loose dresses, printed pants, or "outdated" shoes. If you know, you know. One thing that drives me crazy is not using a good moisturizer and that includes feet which goes hand in hand with hydration...it's so important!! Another thing is hair as in color, but more so does it compliment your actual skin tone. If you color your hair and can't do it yourself without it looking like box dye job, please have it done professionally or just go au natural gray and all BUT have a very flattering cut and length does not have to be short!!

  • @bohemiansusan2897
    @bohemiansusan2897 3 месяца назад +2

    I find with a rectangular figure that semi fitted or fitted looks best on me and gives me the illusion of curves.
    The biggest thing about clothes is to get them to tailor or seamstress to have them altered to fit correctly. I cannot think of anything more important than that!
    I don't agree with you on capris. They should be at the right length and shortened if needed. The cuff type capri is just ugly no matter what.
    Shoes are difficult at best for me. I have narrow feet and it's harder and harder to find sized narrow shoes. I spent a huge fortune fixing foot deformities caused by years of ill fitting shoes. I try to go with classic styles. I only do block heels.
    I like to mix and match period and vintage clothes with contemporary. It makes getting dressed a lot more fun. I do avoid all ppen cardigans and blazers like the plague. They just scream fast fashion cheap! I do own a few sweater blazers and love them.

    My problem with Vivaia is that all their shoes are plastic. Plastic is incredibly bad for your feet - especially in summer - as the skin can't breathe and your feet get hot, sweaty and swollen as a result. If they used leather I'd buy them like a shot - I actually like several of their styles - but I refuse to cripple myself by wearing plastic, whether it's recycled or otherwise. (plus they are very expensive for plastic shoes.)

    I believe what you say about capris is true. However, I am in my late 40's and do not feel comfortable in shorts. I will be working at a camp this summer. I tend to wear lightweight capris with the camp shirt. I don't need any dressy clothes. Sometimes finding affordable (under $50) capris are hard to find and I end up going to Kohl's and recently Marshall's.

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 3 месяца назад +7

      I'm a bit concerned over the capris for a camp because of chiggers and ticks. I need to wear long pants and socks outside in the summer, even in my yard! Otherwise my ankles get covered in chigger bites and deer come right into our yards here, so ticks are always an issue.

    I need find someone to sew for me. I think its the only way to look and feel my best. My body shape is best described as inverted triangle meets potato. Its very difficult to find clothing that fits and looks good thats also in my style, my most flattering colours, and not disposable quality. I recently got a blouse that i get lots of compliments on. Unfortunately its not available in any other colours, so i may try to make a pattern from it and create another of my own or pay to have it done. Honestly, out of my entire wardrobe, i only LOVE three pieces.

    I make my own cardigans, and they’re fitted at the waist regardless of length. I have crop ones, blazer styled ones and “duster” trench coat length that look amazing in the fall with boots. I don’t think casual clothing is the issue; it’s not having them fitted to your body. Tailoring really doesn’t cost that much and it makes even good quality ready to wear look bespoke. Everyone looks old in baggy, shapeless clothes that look like they were borrowed from a larger person. I have a super high arch so I stick to high end clogs and Birkenstocks, because I only have one pair of feet (I can buy clothes second hand).

      Not necessarily. It depends on your proportions. You might be regular on top and a petite on the bottom, or vice versa. Or you could be a petite size in one brand but a regular in another. For example, I'm 5'2 1/2". I need a regular on top, but I usually prefer a petite size on the bottom. It's complicated with pants, though, because I'm long between my waist and hips, so petite size pants are often too short in the rise.

Im still watching some RUclips channels like this to adjust my style now as im not too old not young any more, kinda in the middle. Its not easy for me, sometimes I wanna feel younger and sometimes I wanna look mature and professional

    Is just necklace ok? I wear necklaces like that as a statement piece on a regular basis. Is it “trying to hard” in your opinion for daily casual wear?

      years ago it was like chunky sweater=chunky necklace, but in proportion.

      I like the two or three layer tiny chain necklaces. To me it is still a statement but more personal. Or pearls = soft & glowy 😍
