Terrific. I've had this mower for years and not being very mechanically inclined I've avoided taking off the deck and went through too much trouble in taking the blade off for sharpening or replacement. This excellent, clear, simple video will let me get at the belts that are now very worn and finally fix that blade engagement cable or spring that's been messed up for a while.
heck yeah. I picked up almost the same model Ariens mower just to motor around on the property with, and didn't realize dropping the deck was gonna be this easy. thanks for the video.
The clutch engagement cable broke and that large spring at the end fell off too. After 30 min I finally figured that the sping must be attached to the top of the pulley. Although the video is dark, you confirmed it. Thanks man.
@superhero74 the clutch engagement cable broke on my tractor. How did you replace yours? The spring is in tact but the hook part of the spring snapped somewhere along the way.
Glad to help! Thank you for watching and the kind comment. Please give this video a like and share my channel to help it grow! It would be greatly appreciated :)

Hello, thanks for the great video. Can you tell me what size hitch pin clip holds the blade engagement cable in place on the bracket of the mower deck? Thank you very much in advance.
I do not know what size it is. I go by part number. I would suggest looking up the part number to acquire the correct pin using your model number of your machine under the seat and go to a parts lookup for your machine online.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks anyway--It seems a bit harder than usual as this machine is an Ariens by Husqvarna (and American Yard Products?)...But I will seek that out further. As an example, the 42-in mower deck called for 4 bolt spindles, when it actually has three bolt spindles on it!
The spring underneath the deck you removed, what was it attached to? I have taken my deck off an put a new belt on it, but I can’t remember where the spring attaches to when putting it back together
I took the mower deck off to push snow with my tractor over the winter. This is my first time doing it so I'm not sure what to expect. What do you do with the blade engage cable to keep it safe until reinstalling the mower deck in the spring? Thanks for the video and help!
GREAT VIDEO!!!! Thank You!! I have the same exact mower. Nothing fancy but gets the job done. Can you please tell me why the blade engagement lever/mechanism would be sticky or not react at all when DIS-engaging the blades? Thanks Again!!
I am ready to change both belts on my 17.5 Ariens bought in 2014. Which belt goes on first...the blade belt or the belt to transmission?? 4/9/21 Great tutorials!!!!!
In my opinion there is no which one is first. It is which one you want to replace first. I can say, you will need to take off your mower deck to get to your transmission drive belt.
Question. I have this exact model of ariens lawn tractor and the only way I’m able to engage the blades is by raising the deck to its highest setting and stomping very hard down on the top of the deck. I checked the belt. Replaced it anyways. Didn’t make any noticeable change and I’m not noticing any extra slack anyways. I’m afraid I’m likely going to end up with broken welds if I keep at this for much longer. . Any ideas ? Thank you!
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines thanks for the fast reply ! I know the part numbers aren’t going to match up but aren’t aren’t Ariens and Husqvarna owned by the same parent company ? So likely they are probably the same decks all together. Complete noob so If I sound dumb it’s because I am. Last question. Would this still likely be my problem regardless of it being the engaging of the blades and not the disengaging as this video is about? Just wanting to make sure I get the right parts. Thanks !
@@TDashWood25 You are correct in Husqvarna is the manufacturer now of many products. The part numbers that you will find for your machine from your model number of your machine should be the same. The issue is the same as in the video. You cannot disengage or you cannot engage the blades. Most likely same problem. Now I cannot confirm that because obviously I cannot see your machine. You will need to take the mower deck off your machine to confirm.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines awesome! We’ll thank you again! Im happy knowing I’m at least going the right direction now. With your two videos you’ve kindly posted I should be able to successfully remove the deck from my mower and then make the correct repairs. I guess it would be adventitious for me to go ahead and replace the belt and install some ariens 6pt high lift blades since I’d have full access to the underside of the deck. We’ll thank you again have a great day !
You will need to take the model of the machine from under the seat and look up the part number online. Then you can order the correct belt or cross the number to a aftermarket belt.
Does my Ariens 7.5 42 in cut tractor ha the cooling fan over the transaxle like what is on the Husqvarna?Would you put up a tutorial on changing the drive belt?
Hi Jeff, If you have a gear shift lever that says 1,2,3,4,5 and R for reverse then you do not have a fan over the transmission. I would need the model number under the seat on a sticker to be able to help more. I will only make a video on replacing your exact model if it comes in the shop for a transmission belt replacement. If i get one in I will sure make a video but I cannot say when that will happen.
On this model of tractor, is there a way to change the trans axle fluid? Is there fluid in there? I've read my owners manual and see no instructions on maintenance for it.
I do not have a video on that yet, but it is on the list to get to the next time. I have an Ariens tractor in the shop I would suggest keep searching and I’m sure somebody out there has a method. Too hard to explain in words.
Hey man nice video, do you happen to know where I could buy a plow? I have same tractor as seen in your video. Ariens website and dealers said they are discontinued
I don’t get into putting plows on machines. Just search the internet. In my opinion, if you put a plow on the front of that tractor, you will destroy it. That tractor was only made to cut grass. Just my thoughts.

Could you possibly tell me the part# for the deck spindles on this exact mower? I do know that they are three bolt spindles. Thanks.
You need to look up your parts for your machine with the model number off of the machine normally located under the seat.
I got this one I’m looking for a sharp blade and good oil to put it in like ams oil
The spring underneath the deck you removed, what was it attached to? I have taken my deck off an put a new belt on it, but I can’t remember where the spring attaches to when putting it back together
Thank you so much. Is it necessary to take the deck off if I am just replacing the belt?
It’s just much easier in my opinion to take the deck off. I have heard that some people have but I do not attempt it. It’s up to you.
Holy crap you must be on the same caffeine shots people say I am on in my videos! Great video and thanks for keeping it simple!

Zip tie it out of the way possible to a hole in frame or you may have to get creative.

Hi Travis, check out this video. ruclips.net/video/TxMZTnqwuBk/видео.html. I'm pretty sure this is why your mower deck will not engage properly.

If your machine is gear driven as in 12345, The transmission is sealed grease packed.

No. Just jack front of mower a little and put deck all the way down.
