I aint heard a person yet who can whoop Johnny Gill sanging his part of can you stand the rain. He just has a voice that cannot be duplicated. People just don't sing like this anymore
One of the rare times were all 6 preform the song this is why it's one of my favorite performances of this song cause bobby killing them background vocals
I come back to this performance every now and then and Bobby wanted to be on this song so bad 😂😂 it’s nice to see him participate in the songs Choreography & background vocals on the culture tour (without being extra) Bro really said I ain’t on the song but imma be heard
Crazy thing is I remember this episode of Oprah back in 96 when home again album came out and also entertainment tonight did a special on them talking about home again album I remember buying the day it came out on cassette from blockbuster music store
I will always love this song and the way they chose transition clothes. For those who did not see the entire show back then. This was they show after Bobby had his car accident. When they sang Mr. Telephone Man and Hit Me Off they had I'm young fly and sexy with all the necklaces, open shirts and I've grown up to look like this going on. 😂 Can You Stand the Rain? is the flips side like ok for real, I really grew up. I'm actually old enough to wear all those fly suits and I know what to do with the hat. 👌
Before people say who can and can’t sing in New Edition, let me put y’all on their vocal arrangements: Ralph Tresvant: Main Lead Singer/1st and sometimes 2nd Tenor Bobby Brown: Secondary Lead singer/2nd Tenor Johnny Gill: Tertiary Lead Singer/2nd Tenor and Baritone Ricky Bell: 4th Lead Singer/ 2nd Tenor and sometimes Baritone Ronnie DeVoe: Occasional Lead Singer/Baritone Michael Bivins: Occasional Lead Singer/Baritone and Bass
Bobby Brown is a baritone/2nd tenor and Ricky actually takes the 1st tenor parts often, could see why someone might say baritone but I think he’s a true tenor. Honestly couldn’t tell you what Mike is, he probably should be a tenor but he just can’t sing so he’s a baritone by default (not saying baritones are bad singers/lazy tenors they’re just the most common voice male type). Ronnie is actually a baritone/bass, he really honed his lower singing range in the Home Again and One Love albums.
