Can we all appreciate Valerie how much work she puts into these videos to inspire us!! Valerie I've watched your all videos!! They are Atmospheric, warm and motivating!! I love your videos!! LY Valerie!!! 🤍
I was married to a man who would not help with any childcare, household chores, or maintenance of the house. As a result I learned to do so many things, such as making a deck for our home, laying carpet, laying laminate, tiling, and on and on. It was unfair of him to refuse to do anything in the home but as a result I became incredibly competent because of it.
"I don't feel in control of the results, but I do feel in control of my thoughts and emotions." That perfectly encompasses how I feel as well when I make art. Thank you ♥️
Hey Valerie! Greetings from India. I am a high schooler with an extremely exhausting schedule, where there is almost no day when I don't cry myself to sleep. Your videos and your advices have been that driving force which has been helping me to become a better version of myself every single day. Thank you so much.
I appreciated your sarcasm on the modernist update to the library building. It got me thinking that (apart from it being a crime against beauty) the modernist aesthetic is partly so unsuccessful because of it's unhealthy pursuit of perfectionism. It's a good example of how perfectionism often becomes an enemy of beauty and creativity.
That moment when you KNOW the painting is finished is a magical thing. Painting sometimes ends with a crescendo…but other times with just one small, quiet note. But there is no telling when that will happen. It is definitely just this overwhelming immediate feeling that “voilà!” it is finished. It’s a most amazing feeling. Thank you for another beautiful video. I love the painting! I could talk about all these things you mentioned, but it would be a novella 😆
@ brightpurpleViking Many, many painters - in fact all I’ve ever known, which may be dozens - say it doesn’t happen that way. Rather, they ask themselves: Can I do anything to improve this? When the answer is no, the painting is done. Your description sounds like a highly romanticized version we might see in a movie.
@@63artemisia63 hahaha! I’ve been an advanced art instructor for thirty one years. I disagree, from what I have seen thousands of times. But we each have our own experience I guess. We do, however, always see room for improvement no matter if the painting is finished or not.
"Short appreciation towards modernism. You truly show what you think about life"... I can feel the eye roll of that comment without seeing your face. Thick with sarcasm! Love it! I had such a great laugh. Absolutely brilliant!! Thanks. That laugh was much needed and appreciated.
I'm genuinely amazed of how your paintings suddenly all makes sense ! The way you put some brush stokes here and there, and then *SHUBAM* it becomes a masterpiece. What kind of witchcraft is it ?! (The answer is : Talent and a lot of practice, I guess) Keep going, girl ! I worship you !

I really like the idea of our perfectionism being a friend. However the relation can quickly sour if you don't put in the effort to understand and build up the relationship, which is why I think people are so fast to burn the bridge. To me perfectionism lets me know when I'm working on something that is deeply important to me, they want me to put in adequate effort and see that the final result was reached with care and a sense of worth. It will let me know if what I made wasn't pretty or perfect and that can honestly hurt, but at the same time it will embrace me and say be proud of what you've done. It says, Perfect, no. But you gave it your all, this is the best you could produce with your current skill-set and you managed to get your feelings across. Whiles Valerie's friend may push her to be of the best, mine wants me to work hard on things important to me. Friends push you in the direction you need to go so no ones friend will be the same. As for making something without having a picture in mind, I understand but don't completely agree. I don't know what it's like for you but for me it's like having all the pieces to a jig-saw puzzle. I don't know what the final result will look like but I have generally understand of how I want my work to feel by the type of pieces I choose to work with. Whether the pieces are sad, tranquil, happy, peaceful, ect. (I'm not a painter but this could be like the colors you work with or environment of your painting). As I work I start to see what pieces fit together and my picture starts to come together. Then as picture comes together the direction I want to go becomes a lot more focused. Much like you I found the words and phrasing I was looking for to be quite elusive so this didn't come out exactly as I wanted but I hope I was still able to convey what I said in an understandable way. As always thank you so much for the video I really like them and they mean a lot to me. I look forward to the next one!
I share similar feelings, but wasn’t able to put words to it. Thank you for expressing your own experience. It’s refreshing to hear different perspectives, while also appreciating Valerie’s lovely videos! So grateful for the haven she’s created here
What a beautiful person you are. I am a mom who like many, struggles to keep a balance between kids, home and practising hobbies, which in my case is painting. But your videos always motivates me one way or another...keep up the good work.
Thank you, Valerie! I love your message! I think of striving in two different ways: There’s striving for perfection and then there’s striving for excellence. Striving for perfection is usually externally driven and often brings anxiety and emotional fatigue. Striving for excellence comes from within and (hopefully) brings us energy and a sense of peace. It comes from confidence and a simple desire to do our best. It’s not driven by the expectations of others or from a fear of being judged as inadequate. It’s a wonderful thing and helps us sustain our passions without feeling burned out! On a side note, it’s nice to see that you’re so comfortable with relative solitude. I think solitude is healthy and (IMHO) enjoyable. We live in a loud world! It’s nice to step away from the noise and experience some quiet peace. You are gifted in many ways! Thank you for sharing your gifts with us. :)
I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). I’ve had to overhaul how I approach taking care of my brain (journaling) by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my journaling habit, workouts and studying - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on YT. And part of that is routinely putting in work on your dreams and projects despite how you’re feeling! I was a zombie for 2 years, so depressed - feeling like those two years are just gone - the critic in my head is vicious. This video is a message to keep my head up and keep marching forward. I’ve felt doubtful about my RUclips channel since the start but I try to keep going through the feelings of doubts because I know you’re out there doing the same!!

the basement part was so fun, "ok enough" lol super addicted to your videos, they are helping me to pass by through a rough depression phase, and are helping to encourage me to use my art to be out of it. so thank you! sending you big hugs from Brazil
I loved this piece it's your most "architectural" yet intimate. I think I get what you meant : you know the story that you want to tell (what feelings to convey) but you figure out the plot as you go so the result is a surprise for both the painter and the viewer. Great video as always 🥰
Whoa your basement is scary but also so cool! Gorgeous painting, too -- building the background around the character looked so effortless and came together beautifully!
Oh my. Was so blessed by your views on perfectionism. Something I have struggled with for so long, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have it as a constant issue, something always concerning. Seeing it, perfectionism, as a friend however has completely opened me up to a whole new way of approaching my relationship with this unsettling side of the persona. Please do more of these lovely works in settings like this. The room she is sitting in adds so much to the story of the portrait. You have captured so much of her extended self with these few brushstrokes, her story is so much more present. Portraits are lovely but often keep you aloof and away from the subject. In your painting though, I feel she is relatable and I might even know her just a little. I like the intimacy of this painting. I hope you can get cool there. It’s so hot! Blessings for your gentle wisdom.
I used to get lost in details and lose part of my life for that reason. Anxiety and low self steem made part of my personality. After treating anxiety-related depression (which is always in treatment for me), I valued so much feeling emotions. When you're taking antidepressants, it's like you lose part of your emotions: the good and the not so good ones. It's like in painting: when it gets to the point where you get lost in details - many times - you may spoil the essence of your piece. Love from Brazil and much light to everyone going through difficulties in their own self
I am so glad that someone gets it! Sometimes realizing that we were born (thru such complicated mechanisms) and were given this chance, so many possibilities exists for us in this world, It's enough to help us to move forward.
Ok. That WAS a scary basement.😨 Another calm video for you, Valerie. It makes me appreciate my craft more. (I write crime fiction novels) Thank you, Val, for sharing your craft and thoughts with us. 💖
This video feels like a film, I love the soothing music, the sound of the paint brushes stroking on the canvas, the library, Berlin... I want to go visit ❤️
Valerie Lin!!! I’m a huge fan and I want to learn how to paint like you! I know that everyone’s art is perfect in their own way but I love the way you paint people, it’s absolutely beautiful. Ever since I was 11. I’ve always wanted to paint people beautiful and the way you paint people, shows how beautiful art can be and it’s more than I could possibly ask for
Dear Valerie, I always learn a lot by watching your videos, most of the time I have to watch them several times to be able to assimilate all the good advice you give and be able to reflect on what you say. Your paintings are always as beautiful as your soul. Thank you for continuing to share
Hello again Valerie, thank you so much for taking us on this tiny journey that feels like an adventure into another world. It’s like a good fantasy book that just lets you dive in and forget about everything for a while. And when you come back, you feel refreshed and at peace and you have inspiration, energy, motivation and new thoughts to ponder. I think this is why I love your little movies. And thank you for uploading it especially now, I really needed this positive input to reverse a downward spiral. Now I’m going up again. Hope you are, too. And have some nice cooler days :) Sending you a lot of love 💕
Finally, a video blog, I’m much smaller than you and you give me positive energy and I also learn English from you, your voice is beautiful. Thank you 🕯🇮🇶
I couldn’t tell if your palette was oiled beforehand or not But a great tip would be to oil a new palette with a couple of layers of linseed oil and allow it to be absorbed It will provide a longer life for the palette and the cleaning will be so much easier After cleaning reapply more oil each time It’s a game changer
You are my favorite artist in this entire world . You inspire me so much and i truly love your videos ,they make me fell so good and relaxed. Every time I watch them ,I understand why I fell in love with art . Thank you so much for this 🤧
"Thomas! Valerie has uploaded a video!!!" (Congratulations and thank you for sharing : beautiful thoughts and beautiful painting. I am impatient to improve. I am so inspired by your attitude and work ethic. Thank you too for filming the places you visit. So wonderful to see these places. Keep well.)
Your vlogs have woken another artistic aspect of mine. I'm a poet, singer and play a guitar but I've never painted a portrait. My next objective over the next semester is to pour myself into learning how to paint and sketch, all because of the inspiration you give me. ❤
This video made me cry. As I remembered this undying love I hold towards painting. Thank you, I needed to remind myself what I‘m still in love with 💜🖼🙏🏼🤍(the moment I started writing this comment, fireworks started going off outside. I find that beautiful).
Valerie, tus videos me inspiran a seguir pintando, se nota el trabajo, amor y empeño con el que haces cada cosa en tu vida. Mucho amor desde México 💗💫😊
Hey Valerie, would love it so much if you could post these videos as podcasts too. Sometimes i just listen to your videos while i work, it gave me motivation and its as if i have a buddy to go through these difficult tasks with me. Love your creations ❤️
I must say I also heard the same thing about drinking tea that balances body heat with outside heat too, i didnt know that was incorrect. I dont know maybe all our bodies are different but I tried and it made worse for me. Also I am so glad that I found your channel (only found last week) but now I get excited to see your new video. I am perfectionist and I have been brain washed that it is not something I should be proud of. I am glad to see that you showing that it can be positive thing. It makes me feel better about myself, hating myself less. Thank you for making these videos, I absolutly love them! It incourages me, inspires me and gives me peace in my mind!
In a time when individuality is scarse you shine a light upon it so well. If we were all the same life in this world would be boring. Blessings to you. *Watching you go thru the basement was like watching part of a movie!
Your advices are like a hug to my soul, but also a call for me to keep going and improve. I'm having a tough time with depression and anxiety and your videos give me hope; I truly wish one day I'll be a better version of myself🌻
I like to go back and watch your videos all over again when I get to the end of them. :) I bought your extra video pack, and I love watching that one too. They're good for painting along, or studying, or cleaning. Makes me feel like I have someone helping me get through something difficult. Thank you!
Where were you so long? I think I watched two of your videos and I think you are such an inspiring person I already want to meet you. The message you share with us is so motivating and puts everything in perspective. I think I am so happy I came across your channel. I just feel so empowered watching your videos. I love your content and your paintings are absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing such profound content with us. Cant wait for your next video but in the meantime I am going to watch all the others in your channel.
I have never thought of perfectionism as a friend. I am one of those people who can't work on a piece for days, or months on end. It isn't that I want to rush or hurry, it is because I find myself not able to concentrate on a piece for that long. It gets tedious and boring. Then I find myself over thinking and the perfectionism goes into over drive. It becomes obsessive. So your embracement of perfectionism puts a different perspective on it. I wish I could go into my own thoughts and feelings, but they turn critical and dark. I must have a movie I've seen a million times playing in the background because I can see the movie in my head and no negative self talk gets in and ruins my work. I'm sitting here thinking how different my work would be if I embraced the quiet, the longer time spent on a piece, and the voice in my head. Would it be better? Or worse? You've given me a lot to think about. Thank you
I use to watch your channel 4 to 5 times a day I love your channel, its so pampering, gives me lot of courage, I know I am elder than you but I enjoy your videos a lot. I learn a lot lot about life and drawing from you
I generally do not have attention span this long, but her videos make me feel so warm and lightheaded. I just wanna appreciate your work, art and skills you put in. Keep growing!
Simply stunning! I have just spent several days in between work binging on your content. I don’t know how I found you on RUclips but I am so happy I did. You are inspiring, witty, intelligent, creative, talented, and a genuinely wonderful soul. I am 55 and when I was in my 20s I visited your beautiful country for three weeks. As a poet and writer your videos are breathing new energy into my world. Thank you! It’s also wonderful that we share the same first name 😉 Hope you are doing wonderfully. ♥️

I especially enjoyed this video because I could relate to the things Valerie spoke of. This is why I appreciate her brilliance. This video, as did others, has given me guidance not only in my creativity and art, but in my inner-self. I am so thankful that she shares her work and life with the world.
Valérie, your vidéos and thoughts are precious. I appreciate it, as it helps me rewire concepts like perfectionism, procrastination, slowing down, etc. Has a direct impact on myself as an artist.
Hi Valerie, I recently discovered your videos while I was having a bad week and wasn't able to sleep because of thinking about my problems and I don't mean that your videos put me to sleep 😅but you just warmed my heart and made me forget about my transient problems with your soothing voice, wise words about life and rich, peaceful and creative daily life. I hope to integrate joy, creativity and discipline into my life like you and watching your videos since a week has already given me a lot of inspiration. You're a beautiful soul! ❤ P.S. I also live in Berlin, studying Master's at HU, therefore it's so nice to see this amazing city through your eyes. Who knows, life is full of coincidences, so maybe I see you sometime in a museum 😁And I can't wait to attend one of your exhibitions!
I've been getting upset with myself for not being productive at home when I have day offs. I've been sleeping more and keep getting distracted. But Valerie, thank you. I clicked back on your videos and I felt my mind focus the moment you started speaking. I learn so much by your videos, thank you for this gift. 💐

Your videos, and seeing how you have grown to show more of your personality has inspired me to start my own RUclips Journey 💯😀 Thank You Valerie 💙
Your words, like your paintings, are beautiful. You are wise beyond your years.
I am so glad that someone gets it! Sometimes realizing that we were born (thru such complicated mechanisms) and were given this chance, so many possibilities exists for us in this world, It's enough to help us to move forward.
Getting amazed by your paintings your videos your personality , u are beautiful 🤍
My day literally becomes better when she posts❤ thank you Valerie
You seem so peaceful and at such ease... it makes me feel good to watch these pieces from your life :) keep up the great work
Ok. That WAS a scary basement.😨 Another calm video for you, Valerie. It makes me appreciate my craft more. (I write crime fiction novels) Thank you, Val, for sharing your craft and thoughts with us. 💖
Dear Valerie..You never fail to encourage me every time with your videos. Your Amazing Val!!
Been waiting for this for so long, love your videos ✨️🦋
This video feels like a film, I love the soothing music, the sound of the paint brushes stroking on the canvas, the library, Berlin... I want to go visit ❤️
Valerie You give me a lot of peace with the arts you create. You are very peaceful . and I hope all these feelings come back to you :) i love you
Valerie Lin!!!
Being around you always puts me in a better mood. I highly value the insights and guidance you provide. Thank you. ♥️
Hello again Valerie,
thank you so much for taking us on this tiny journey that feels like an adventure into another world.
And have some nice cooler days :)
Sending you a lot of love 💕
Your videos are a dip into calm for me. I love to watch you paint and to hear your thoughts...so soothing! Thank you!
Finally, a video blog, I’m much smaller than you and you give me positive energy and I also learn English from you, your voice is beautiful.
Thank you 🕯🇮🇶
I couldn’t tell if your palette was oiled beforehand or not
But a great tip would be to oil a new palette with a couple of layers of linseed oil and allow it to be absorbed
It will provide a longer life for the palette and the cleaning will be so much easier
After cleaning reapply more oil each time
It’s a game changer
Simply Amazing painting, humble thoughts and great library!😊🎨💜
You are my favorite artist in this entire world . You inspire me so much and i truly love your videos ,they make me fell so good and relaxed. Every time I watch them ,I understand why I fell in love with art . Thank you so much for this 🤧
"Thomas! Valerie has uploaded a video!!!" (Congratulations and thank you for sharing : beautiful thoughts and beautiful painting. I am impatient to improve. I am so inspired by your attitude and work ethic. Thank you too for filming the places you visit. So wonderful to see these places. Keep well.)
@ Maretta Bertram No need to be impatient. Take your time because all good things take time.
I think the energy of your place and video is so calm and peaceful, and of course beautiful. Someday i'll make me a place feel like yours 💗💗
I think you are one of the most amazing, innocent and wholesome human..... Really wish you the best in life and thank you for the video!
Ur videos are a whole experience.. thanks for taking the time to produce this masterpiece vids for us. You an artist at heart!!! 💜
Hey Valerie, would love it so much if you could post these videos as podcasts too. Sometimes i just listen to your videos while i work, it gave me motivation and its as if i have a buddy to go through these difficult tasks with me. Love your creations ❤️
I cant explain how beautiful the world is and art and so many other things
I have never felt as inspired from any other videos or books than I do with yours
What an exquisitely beautiful post. It’s like a dream. You are mesmerizing. Your talent is not just in the arts.❤️
I love your videos! And your thoughts! You inspire me so much, thank you for doing what you do❤️
The picture is becoming BEAUTIFUL! Congratulations ! You’re a beautiful wonderful PERSON and ARTIST 👩🎨
Many thanks again Valerie, your work is amazing, but your personality shines through everything you do and say 😊x
Thank you
I love that, we all have the ability to create .
Thank you so much for your channel.. I've sat here crying because you are helping me reawaken my love for art/painting!

For me watching Valerie's videos are therapeutic, magical ✨
I really loved your paintings in this video! The combination of the girl's expression and the full background makes the painting feel so intimate and full of life!! Lovely video as usual🥰❤️
