@Susanne Bukatz absolutely, me too. It's just getting started i can't seem to do. Priorities.. distractions.. time management.. motivation. We ADD brains have to really learn how our brain operates personally and then work with the system, trick our brains into cooperating!😅

    Hey Valerie,
I don’t really know how to start this but you’ve truly become an important person in my life … although of course I don’t really know you, I feel deeply connected in what you’re talking about in your videos.
When I started watching your videos, I just loved your art and the aesthetic in your room and films and life.
But now I love how you’re also interested in self-development and improving not only your art, but also your mind… and I just wanted to thank you for showing me the good in life over and over again, inspiring so many people with what you’re doing.
I really hope you can find and keep the deep peace that lies within us. You deserve to be happy so much 🤍

The flow works because all your attention is focused on your hands and getting it "right", there's no room for anything else.
I find it works best if you don't have much background noise. Music is alright, but often silence is best. Unless what you do is repetitive, you're tired, on a deadline or it's too easy for you, in that case, background noises helps to calm your mind.
As for tapping into your subconscious, I think it's mostly because you let it free in a way. You trust your guts and don't use your thinking brain as much. Doing art is a lot of different small decisions that you make all the time from color mixing to the brush you use, to how you paint something. You can't make rational decisions for these, so you trust your judgement (your subconscious) either way, lovely calm video :)

So true - when I tell people I can't paint with music on, they don't get it. It blows my mind that artists and even writers listen to loud music in the middle of creation. The flow state is a magical thing, and best experienced in a bubble.

I think music helps some people while it hinders others. Sometimes listening to music is the only thing that will calm my anxiety enough to get into the groove of things or energize my fatigued body and mind enough to start working, which then allows me to get into a flow state. It's important to know what works for you as an individual.

One of my college friends and I have started painting and drawing...we're both 68 (well...he's 69 ;-)) and at a time in our lives where the kids are grown and we no longer have to work. He and his wife live about 4 hours from us and so I rarely see him, but we share videos of people who inspire us to do better with our art, and to be better people. I just shared your video and your channel with him...he's a retired teacher and I know how proud he would be of your work and your willingness to share your work and thoughts with others. That makes you a teacher. And that's one of the grandest and most wonderful gifts we can give to one another...to teach. Thank you, Valerie, for your work and thank you for your kindness.

this is by far the favourite part of my day, I can’t begin to tell you how inspired and peaceful I feel after watching your videos. I have a little notebook of artist that inspire me and you at the top! Not only do you paint and draw beautifully, you give the best advice and you are honest with your struggles.
I share my room and have young sisters who cram toys everywhere. I never felt inspired in it but because of you I decided to try and change some things. I was able to take an old small table from the balcony and put it against some wardrobe I don’t use. I hung my art in front and arranged it in a way that was inspiring. And now when I wake up I feel like tackling down my chores and sitting in that little corner to improve. So thank you, thank you very much for all the efforts that you make when providing content for us. There is incredible meticulous detail in your videos, the editing is incredible. The different angels and shots makes it so beautiful and I just can’t say it enough tbh. Keep doing what you love ❤️

Your note on decorating being a form of self-care and a way to experience beauty was something I didn't know I needed to hear. I've been very much into minimalism lately as a way to stay focused on tasks and not spend so much time on extraneous ornamentation,, I would curse myself for spending hours decorating my apartment when I could be doing other things, but you helped me to realize that decorating is just as important as cooking a meal for yourself, or getting a good night's sleep. Lovely video and best wishes💙

Dear Valerie, I usually watch your videos on my tv and it is hard to write a comment. I’m now using my iPad and be able to let you know how much I love your channel. I’m a grandma and I love my grandkids, but my love for oil painting is endless. One of my nieces live in Berlin and when I see you, it reminds me of her. I watch other videos about journaling and painting but by far your channel is the BEST! Your entire personality, your disposition to handle situations and the control you have over your daily life are all amazing. It is a great way to be the best mentor for everyone. You are such a great inspiration to everyone. I long for each video because I know how great they are. I had a bad case of COVID that left me with no desire to paint. Last week, I decided to start all over and never give up regardless of the circumstances. This video in particular has so much meaning and a great message to all of us. I’m lost for words to tell you how much I admire you, your work, your experiences! Each video reflects the quality in you in every aspect of your life. Blessings for each day and much success in your career! Please take care. Greetings from Champaign, Illinois, USA I will watch your older videos to update myself. Much love and hugs.

i'm so in love with your videos 🌷 they're art. everytime i feel so hopeless and powerless in my abusive life situation i watch your videos, first, like a manifestation, promising myself "that's the life i want and i will get for myself, i want all that peace, all that warmth, all that nature, food and beautiful decorations in my future". second, because in all the chaos and pain visually it makes me feel so good inside, at home, what a beautiful home looks like, all the aesthetic, the environment, how organized, calm and elegant you are, watching you going to buy suplies or for a walk, how you paint and how you look is therapy. and third, your words. you don't just paint, make some tutorials and that's it, you share personal stories, your growth so people see they can make it too, you give useful and logical advice with a warm smile too, you're not throwing empty positive words and talking as if life is a fairytail or saying something "logical and honest" but being cruel and disguising something bad, you're just being human. listening to you gets back my hope, my power, my inspiration and gives me peace, something very difficult for me. you make me feel happy and powerful not because you say "happy words" or a basic motivational speech, it's because you open my eyes and make me remember there's things i can control, there's things i can't do but there's plenty things i can do, i have to fight and make efforts and decisions, speak up, dedicate hours in my day to do things that make me happy and focus on myself, trying not to waste my time being so anxious and worried, you give me energy to wash my clothes, do the bed, make me food, draw, listen to music, buy lil things for myself and take care of me. things are not easy but sometimes fear, anxiety and shyness make them bigger than they are and they make you doubt a lot and convince you not to even try, just give up, and now i try everything and 90% of the time it wasn't that bad and i discover a new thing i like and feel powerful. thank you so much for your videos 💐

I made a resolution only to fill my days with positive, uplifting content.. not as a form of escape, but as a way to motivate myself to be fully present with myself and to give the best of myself every single day. I find that when I listen to anything fear-filled or negative I become unmotivated and unproductive and that's really not serving anyone is it? Thanks so much for being such a positive influence in my life . Your gentle, kind soul really uplifts my spirit and makes me want to do better in every way that I can. Peace to you, beautiful Valerie :)

I love flow state- it keeps me in the zone and I make sure to take lengthy breaks when flow breaks so that I don't feel rushed or push myself to be "productive" because that ironically causes me stress and lack of productivity.

Dear Valerie! It is the first time I am writing to a video blogger: you are amazing! Your videos inspire me so much. I am also an artist and a designer and you inspire me to go back to what is important for me. I have a question: how do you manage to be in the moment when you constantly have your camera on? I usually get too self-conscious when I try to record myself, so I quit and just enjoy the process of creating. And one more: how to you make videos from so many different angles all the time? Do you have multiple cameras all over your house? If it is too nosy - just ignore the question;)
And thank you, again! You have become very significant for many people….

Along with such high quality art and videos, you give us such awesome advice that can help with almost anything apart from art!

This really was a wonderful video Valerie, thank you! To me being in flow is so much more than being productive, its when your one with your environment and mind, when everything's in resonance. For me flow happens whenever I plug in my headphones and go walking in my lonesome. I just walk and let my mind wander wherever it wants, whether it's a dream, fantasy or nothing in particular. I think the most important part though is like you said, just being in the moment, without thinking about your fears or anxieties.
Also I really liked the addition of chapter zero, I've just started coming out of a rut and that gave me some motivation to do things I've been neglecting for a while. Your videos really help me so I just wanted to say thank you again and I really look forward to the next one!

  • @s.maskell7134

Flow = concentration. Total in-the-moment focus on the task and also utter enjoyment in the task. i.e. loving the paint stroke of a brush as you move it, loving each colour as it is laid down. Sometimes you back off to 'see the whole' and then approach again to tighten the focus. Focus/flow doesn't pay attention to exterior stimulations. Acknowledges them, but doesn't divert focus toward them.
