You guys said Bronco’s don’t have nostalgia and history’s do that’s completely wrong. It’s been gone for 26 years, but it has a ton of history before it was discontinued.
Thanks for your review, good work. Team Bronco here! Reason: the daily drivability with IFS. Key comment: "it drives like any truck from the 80's." I would not daily drive an '80's model truck in 2021. Oh yeah, I pick up my Bronco on Wednesday! Can't wait.
Rubicon vs Black Diamond? Seriously? Should have been Rubicon vs 2.7 Badlands std package $50,220 or a 2.3 Manual Badlands (high package with the 33" tires) $49,590.
Black Diamond was the only Bronco available at the time of filming. Also this Rubicon and the Sasquatch package Bronco represent the most capable for around $50,000 for both brands. Thanks for watching.
After driving both I felt the interior of the jeep was tacky looking but the materials felt better. The bronco interior felt more spacious and looked way better but the plastics didn’t feel as nice. Driving wise I much preferred the bronco and the feel of the ifs and the off capabilities is a toss up.
Love the review but definitely some biased towards the jeep. Also that bronco isn’t a badlands like y’all said which would be comparable to the rubicon. Because just Sasquatch package doesn’t give you the sway bar discount that you can do while flexed. Which is a big difference to the rubicons.👍👍
We find this one interesting in that both Bronco owners / fans and Jeep owners / fans seem to think that we are biased on this review. We were very conscious of this going into the review, but still underestimated the responses. All that said, you are totally right, the badlands is the direct competition to the rubicon. At the time of filming this episode, these two rigs were the closest we could make the match up. Sure the rubicon had a disconnecting sway bar, but the Sasquatch had 35” tires. Having driven both off road a lot over the last year we can report that these two are a very close matchup. Little teaser, we just spent a week in a Outer Banks bronco and formed some new opinions that we did not cover here. Stay tuned for that episode and thanks for commenting 👌
I just took delivery of my 2022 Ford bronco Big Bend. MSRP was $47,000 with optional equipment. A comparably equipped four-door Jeep is $56,000. My Bronco is an absolute beast, and I feel it’s a way better daily driver than the Jeep would be. And it leases better also.
Hey, I've got a question. I'm a manual transfer case guy. I hate knobs and switches. I just bought a 2020 Ram 2500 Tradesman with a "manual transfer case lever" on the floor. I really thought it was a true manual engagement like my 2006 Ram 3500 was, but it's really just an electric engagement via solenoid or servo. You have to wait until you hear the electronic motor stop. So, is the transfer case really a manual engagement with the Jeep?
The Jeep is a manual engagement. You can shift from 2H to 4H on the fly (up to like 50mph), but it helps to lift a little to help the gears mesh. Shifting to 4L has steps: Transmission in neutral, Shift T Case to neutral then to 4L - it is recommended to be rolling @ 2 or 3 mph to help the gears mesh, Then shift transmission to Drive. Reverse the steps to return to 4H...
As far as I know it is a physical lever with an electronic solenoid. I'm not 100% sure tho. But the last one I was in took a few seconds to "engage" 4x4.
The transfer case is controlled by a push pull cable. Definitely not electronic. When you pull up on the T-case shifter you are manually engaging the transfer case fork to send 50% of the power to your front axle and 50% to the back. Simultaneously, the JL’s computer will electronically engage the front axle disconnect (FAD) to join the two-piece axle shaft. That is possibly the delay you felt, though I've never noticed a delay once the T-case gears meshed.
We have ordered a 2023 manual JLU for my wife. Her choice was between a manual convertible Mustang or the Jeep with the one touch and the stick. Thanks for the video, in the back of my mind I’m regretting not at least looking at a Bronco. I’m glad it was a close comparison.
There were no 2.7 Broncos or hard tops available at the time of filming this comparison. But we have since filmed a detailed review on a 2.7 hard top: ruclips.net/video/usPsYVQND0o/видео.html
@@TexasTruckChannel you guys seem very experienced with the Jeep, so it's faults are known and baked in to the equation. A great review for prior and current Jeep owners. The Bronco has faults that are new and unique, so stand out a bit more for those experienced with Jeeps. She was very unimpressed with how the Jeep drove, while I found it a big upgrade from the Rubicon Gen 1 I used to own. I feel like people who currently like Jeeps and are fine with it's shortcomings won't be as impressed with IFS in general.
Ok thanks, I can see where you are coming, especially with Jeep fans being fine with the solid axle short comings. It is something they have been living with for years, and prefer for its affordability to modify. That being said, we see the short comings of it on the road. This is a mindset we used to relate to both sides of the coin, a Jeep lifer simply doesn't feel a need for IFS. We do prefer the Bronco's IFS on road, and find it equal off road. So when is ford gonna take what they learned with the bronco soft tops and make a soft top ranger to really compete with the gladiator?? You say that the Wrangler is for soccer moms going to the mall. I'd like to add that your statement is really only true if you had said "Wrangler Unlimited". I can say as a four decade purist Jeep driver the Wrangler (never liked that moniker by the way)...the 2 door isn't for soccer moms. There are still those of us out there who will only run in two door manuals, with soft top and soft doors...though we seem to be a dying breed. With the engine comparison you compared a V6 to a V4. When the Bronco can be optioned with a V6. I am a jeep guy. I just want the jeep to win in apples to apples competition.
Hey Luke, thanks for the feedback. You are correct, a badlands is the most direct competitor to the Rubicon jeep, but at the time of shooting this episode this was the closest match we could make. One has 35's, but the other has a disconnecting swaybar. As far as engines go, the 2.3 4cyl turbo is aimed at the 3.6 V6 according to Ford, and actually makes more power. As an impartial juror I can tell you that the personality of the V6 is awesome. Thanks for watching.
Wranglers are 5 gens of archaic tech. Most are soccer mom mall crawlers, Broncos have racing pedigree.. Baja to King of the Hammers. Trust me, we do plenty of research when producing these episodes. Per Ford, the 2.3 4cyl compares directly to the 3.6 wrangler. It actually makes more power. The black diamond was the only trim we could get our hands on, otherwise a badlands would have been used. In today’s market, the bronco is competing against Jeeps existing business model, that is what we meant by “based on”. Sorry if that was misleading. Thanks for watching.
f you're gonna test a Black diamond then get a similar equipped Jeep . Just because the BD has sasquatch doesn't make it comparable . Also V6 vs 4cyl , soft vs hard top , com'on LOL
Not to take away from your points, in an ideal world we would match these two up better. But at the time of filming this was the closest match we could make, and trust me it was not easy coordinating these two. I hope you enjoyed this episode none the less.
Ok did anyone else realize at the beginning that said it was a Black Diamond (the middle offroad trim) Bronco then lied and called it a badlands trim? I see they either are Jeep bias or do not even care about putting out the right info. So many other channels have done a proper Badlands vs Rubicon videos. I would not recommend these guys
Yes we did call it a Black Diamond, which is it. Then misspoke later in the episode and called it a Badlands. Probably because we talk about the Badlands all the time off camera. Simple mistake, thanks for watching.
It really isn’t. Our point was that the Sasquatch package on 35” Goodyear’s verses the solid axle Rubicon on BFG 33’s was not as far apart as you would think. Agreed the bronco ride quality is impressive, it’s really good. (Check out our full review of the Outerbanks Bronco). The wrangler doesn’t ride as bad as the internet would imply. Thanks for watching.

@@TexasTruckChannel electronic parking break and I believe you had an issue with the bronco not having a manual lever like in the wrangler. ......it drives like a Ranger....because same chassis. I drove back to back, and still prefer the Rubicon. Ford could have improved the interior, and that dash is terrible! Ford, just copy the Golf R/Audi electronic dash.
I don’t understand why you’d push a black diamond against a rubicon and then expect a fair comparison. Also, when rating rigs, you’d come across less biased if instead of “well it’s the OG” you actually offered information that is conducive to people shopping for an off-road vehicle. This is the worst comparison video I’ve watched.
Caitlin - a Sasquatch vs Rubicon is honestly not fair to the Jeep. This is the closest match up we could pull at the time. I’m sorry that we came off biased to you. We work hard to avoid that in our reviews. Especially when we are dealing with the hottest new vehicle out there and comparing it to the original doors off off roader. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the response! I understand inventory is slim, so that’s not a huge deal. I admit that I didn’t finish the video because I was annoyed by the way the 1-10 ratings of the vehicles came across. So if I missed an actual overall rating it’s on me for sure. Just wish y’all had left out the fluff rating if that’s the case
We get it, you’re new to the show and we don’t use a conventional rating system. Consumer reports and Doug DeMuro has that covered. We give our assessments based on our experience with it. And we rate them on our hipster score, which is a parody because many hipsters don’t like the car in general. So we rate it on how much a hipster would like it or not.
So I owned a 1st gen 1977 Ford Bronco. I bought it instead of the Jeep CJ5 because it had a wider track and therefore was much easier to drive on typical logging roads. It also had a roomier interior. Mine had the 302V8, 3-speed auto and floor shifter 4wd. I just thought it was better for my use. (Wish I still owned it!) I like most of the new Bronco but it's so much different from the original that they're almost not comparable. I like the new Wrangler too and agree it's a bit tighter and more refined. I think Ford will quickly improve the quality of the Bronco though. My biggest disappointment with the Wrangler/Gladiator is forward visibility through the windshield. It looks/feels restricted IMO. I haven't had the opportunity to see a new Bronco in person. Does it have better front visibility?
Sounds like the bronco vs Jeep comparison was similar in 1977. Neither have great visibility. But neither are undrivable. The fender tie downs help knowing where the edge of the Bronco is. Taking doors off helps both with placement.
@@TexasTruckChannel Yep. They were competitors even then. Although your comparison was with the Wrangler and Bronco I'm actually interested in a diesel Rubicon Gladiator. Any thoughts on it?

......it drives like a Ranger....because same chassis. I drove back to back, and still prefer the Rubicon. Ford could have improved the interior, and that dash is terrible! Ford, just copy the Golf R/Audi electronic dash.
Bronco has bugs that need to be worked out !!!
These guys are obviously biased to the Jeep.
Jeep interior looks cheep.
I think they're both made for women unless lifted and modded
Jeep is proven. Bronco is not. Just buy a Jeep for the same price as the Bronco
The wondering is like any 80's truck. That was 40 years ago, they should no longer wonder, drift, and pull.
The new Jeep Ronco
Team Jeep all day
I don’t understand why you’d push a black diamond against a rubicon and then expect a fair comparison.
Jeeps are for chicks
So I owned a 1st gen 1977 Ford Bronco. I bought it instead of the Jeep CJ5 because it had a wider track and therefore was much easier to drive on typical logging roads. It also had a roomier interior. Mine had the 302V8, 3-speed auto and floor shifter 4wd. I just thought it was better for my use. (Wish I still owned it!)
I like most of the new Bronco but it's so much different from the original that they're almost not comparable.
