Bruno Sacco was in the “safety” department of Mercedes before he became the head of design. His designs often came at the crux of style and safety. Things like the slats on the rear lights of Mercs from this era are another example, they’re designed so that you can see the tail lights even if they’re covered in mud or snow.
This is so cool! The airplane cabin inspired "fasten your seatbelts" indicator, the mechanical ticking of the emergency lights, and the colourful 90s-style fabric inserts on the seats.
In the 1990s, I purchased a second-hand 190E from Stuttgart. It was the same color but equipped with an automatic gearbox. I never anticipated its design would remain so timeless.
Those colorful designs on the seats are called Kente and it originates from Ghana, west Africa. It is cultural design used in designing traditional clothing. #AsanteTribe
Sorry but if you need adaptive cruise control to enjoy an old car your the wrong person to enjoy an old car. Enthusiasts like these cars and other vintage cars for lots of reasons, but for a lot of us we enjoy them because they are unique and often times more engaging to drive.
Depending on where you come from politically; corporate greed, fact-oblivious political incentives, insensitive environmental regulations or any combination.
Because besides all the reasons that were already listed and the others that weren’t, this was a first for Mercedes, the first “Baby Benz” built to help them make it through the oil crisis, BUT Mercedes was so scared that it wouldn’t be taken seriously that the board gave their engineers some absolutely ludicrous benchmarks to hit- these included have the same ride quality as the S class (not easy on a smaller car), the same crash safety as an S Class (even more difficult), and they wanted it to win the world rally championship (they determined that to be impossible when Audi came out with Quattro). The 190E is a special car because Mercedes built it at their peak, but it was also a first impression for them so they went all out on it.
Luxury is operating those well weighted knobs, buttons, switches. The force feedback that those "clicks" doing to your brain by operating them is the luxury. Today's car are a fckn joke.
my man got those pixar shoes

The way the single wiper extends to cover the whole window is so cool
It had its flaws, but it was definitely cool!
Fun Fact: Koenigsegg Automotive uses them on their cars

But when they were new, people were probably bellyaching for the styling of the W105.
