- Sometimes you guys you put so much time and effort in to things to the best you can do but with the farm life something always happens when something passes on the ranch and there was nothing you can do it’s really up setting but I like to share this stuff to show you guys what can Happen at the ranch!

I’m so sorry for your loss. My neighbor’s two dogs killed 10 of my chickens in one day and all of them are pets and have names. They killed my favorite she was my baby and she would fall asleep in my arms and I got her as a rescue and we found all of their bodies except for hers so we couldn’t even have a proper funeral for her and I loved her so much and those dogs are never in their own yard. I’m not going to blame the dogs because that is their instinct but I do blame the owners for not properly taking care of their dogs. They have a fence but they let them run around the yard and don’t watch them. They have killed my chickens in the past but this is the most at one time so I know how it is to lose so many things you love in a short period of time. I’m really sorry for you loss.

Great Pyrenees Dog is exactly what you need. But your neighbours.. Regardless of the fact they help you at times, they need to keep their dog and pig properly locked up. Because it can't happen again. Poor Goat and ducks.

huskys can have a massive prey drive, they literally have no control over it. Its the owners responsibility to ensure there dog is kept safe and fenced in. Its really sad about the other animals that died because it never needed to happen. As horrible as it is I don't blame the dog, i blame the owners it is there responsibility. The dog did what its instincts lead it to do. I am more concerned about its aggressiveness to people, that should never be a natural instinct. The owners need to address this issue rapidly and ensure the safety of other people and their animals.

You should think about getting a male goose. I’ve seen people on RUclips who have a male goose to protect the hens. They start squawking very loudly whenever they see intruders going after their hens. They say geese are worth it for protection. I don’t know if you are planning on keeping the hens in the barn, but I would still buy it to see how it works at night. They don’t cost that much. And I think it would make you and your mom and sister feel better.

Our goats and geese were killed by 2 husky’s :( they are still out their roaming free, the have killed one of our neighbors cats and I’m sure they have killed much more. Blamed it on coyotes for a long time. Those animals were like our dogs to us and I really wish I could sue somebody.

I own 6 at the moment, have for years, and the woman I work with, who is also a llama breeder and sells guards specifically for dog and coyote protection is the one who has given me information about guarding. I can guarantee that they’re amazing guards and I would trust 100+ head of cattle with a llama.

Sounds like the dog had a little bit of wolf in it and I'm really sorry for your loss I have chickens and horses and we have had multiple times where dogs have almost cleared the coop and I also work at a rescue center + petting zoo so I understand ur love for animals
It could be a Alaskan malamute they are a much bigger version of a husky I had one he he was the same weight and stood 6ft on his back legs was never nasty tho he was put down a few months ago coz cancer but he was nearly 13

Huskys have high prey drives. I highly doubt it had any wolf content in it. The owners of the dog should be held accountable for everything!
I work for a vet. Great Pyranese and cattle dogs are great dogs for protecting your ranch/ farm animals. Im so sorry for your loss. Please continue doing what you do.

You should get a guard dog. My aunt lost 17 chickens due to feral dogs and coyotes. She got a great pyranese and it killed a coyote two weeks later. Maybe some good flock dogs can help😊❤

There is one little thing you might not know but electric fences don't really work on hogs. The da** pigs are just too smart for it. They just get used to the electric current and break the circuit. Have had this problem multiple times. and if a dog is blood lusted well nothing can stop it from its prey. Better to use a guard dog...

As to the fence, I suggest that you dig about 10 inches down and about four inches wide for a concrete barrier, all along the base. When you pour the concrete, put ubolts (with nuts screwed on a bit) over the bottom fence wire and into the concrete, so that it will hold and never release. If you want to make it more fance, then when you dig down, use forms for the sides to make things nice and neat.
As to the hog, unless you know what happened for sure, it is also likely that the hog was only trying to get away from the dog and not the initial problem. You know more about that though, I assume. Though you have forgotten, I suggest that you talk to the neighbour about a large contribution to the cost of replacement animals to make up for the dog. What someone else wrote is correct, if the dog was agressive and attacking you, it should not be kept, there is now a possibility of happening again, only the next time could involve a child. And then if that somehow were to happen, you would be sued for not ensuring that, once you knew animal was not safe, did not report it to the authorities or take other action. Eliminate your liability.

Here in Swiss they use great Pyrenees in combination with a Kangal. The Kangal actually chases the wolf/bear etc. While the great Pyrenees stays in the flock to defend them.
If you introduce them as puppies tho the animals they will become their family.
They really do a great job. If you train them properly they aren't aggressive. They just make clear that no human or animal will touch their fluffy family.
I even think they could scare the Husy or other dogs away without hurting them.

Yes, report to animal control all attacks that happened and provide them evidence (film, etc.). Get the dog put down. Sue neighbors for not watching their dogs.
Get a greater Swiss mountain dog it is nice but big and it was bread for farms and it weighs 200lb on the regular also protects the animals and nice
Blake i know this is a bit of an older video but i do recommend a GP. My boyfriend has two of them... And they really go ham on coyotes. He has 2 acres. Ducks and chickens and a goat. They have 6 little dogs as well. They're super useful. One of the last times i was over there were coyotes a about 2 houses down from his and Nova the smaller GP ran over to the edge of the fence and wouldn't move until the coyotes had moved on. Nelly the larger one, she has a neurological issue that makes it so she can't walk properly, almost jumped the fence to go after them. It was kinda scary bc you could hear them howling super close and you could see them, we put up the ducks, my bf got his pocket knives and everything and we waited. The dogs were super alert ans helpful that whole time. GPs are amazing.
Unfortunately UNTILL the dog is either dispatched (killed) or kept pinned up it will continue to do it. On the farm if a pet or herding dog starts to kill they are no good.
