I like your videos you are a man of the knowledge beautiful the way you explain things and you do everything nice slowly Beautiful English very articulate And exactly I like it because you're right one of the things I think most people don't get it is a switch line and neutral it confuses them also from the intermediate when you go to 2 way switch understanding L1 L2 they getting mixed up you know so the way that you actually explained it you break down the mechanism you know and so we make things look clear and lot easy thank you for this video and look forward to see more
Thanks buddy, I’m currently on my apprenticeship and this tutorial has been very helpful. There is lots of crappy ones out there that show their own twist instead of the correct way in the regs etc.
Yes, absolutely! You can definitely install a dimmer switch instead of one of those regular switches. It's a great way to have control over the brightness of your lights and create the perfect ambiance in any room.
Fab video, how do you take out the inserts without damaging them, the white things over the screws that fix it onto the wall? I don't want to use a flat head screw driver and damage them, I have 18 sockets and switches to do, we had them all fitted and I need to paint round them where the old ones use to be were bigger. Thank you. I was thinking of a very small flat head screwdriver ?
Hi mate, great video. Thanks. I wanted to install a 2-way light switch in my workshop. However, i turn the first switch on, go to the other end but the switch doesn’t do anything, until i turn the 1st switch off. I then walk back to the other end, and now the 2nd switch works. Only one switch works at any one time, which defeats the object. Any ideas what i’m doing wrong?
Hi... thanks but at may house from hallway to upstairs I have three single switch that turn on all three lights how do I separate in to individual light switch?
Yes, you can use an intermittent switch as a 2-way by linking out both sides at the bottom. It might not be the conventional way, but it can work in a pinch!
What happens at the dB if I use 3core as my feed to some emergency lights in the hall wat and 2way switches? How do I wire at the DB?j have black snd brown
Thank you for this. Not sure if it's too basic, but wonder if you can run over some terminology, such as what is common? What color is it normally in new builds or old builds. Very helpful regardless.
Hi mate, If you haven't second fixed the intermediate switch be prepared as everyone wires them differently. I for example don't use the brown as the common, I use the grey, Black as L1 & Brown as L2.
Might want to redo this video… well presented and easy to follow… however key error is connecting both blacks to intermediate L1s and greys to L2s… will just mean it is constantly on… need to put black and grey from one wire into L1s and black and grey from other wire into L2s…
So many people call them different things. Dry lining box, fast fix box, plasterboard box - you can see them on amazon here - www.amazon.co.uk/shop/toolboxtalkforelectricians/list/1NVOV28BZLKIX?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsftoolboxtalkforelectricians_ZFC9QMV6YVHV759DMR2E
Haha, great question! If you had 2 or 4 lights in the room, you might need to hire an electrician to handle all those switches! Just kidding, there are actually different wiring configurations for multiple lights, and I can definitely cover that in a future video.
Great video, thanks, could you show me how to connect my gas hob please, if I don't electrocute myself fitting my lights i can blow myself up cooking my dinner
I wish you guys would run a neutral to the switch, smart switches need them and it's a faff and a half to do work arounds just because you don't put in a neutral.
In a first switch, you connect the live wire to the common terminal and the neutral wire to the L1 terminal. Make sure to always follow the correct wiring guidelines for safety purposes.
Your videos are great. I'd be interested in having a chat with you about a start up business that's aimed at electricians and the trade in general. I appreciate you're busy but if you could spare 10 minutes for a chat I'd appreciate it as you seem like a straight talker and your opinion would be very useful.
Great video . How would you add a couple more lights that would be controlled by the same amount of switches ? Would they be simply daisy chained from first light?
!!!!Followed this religiously BUT didnt work. The intermediate switch wouldnt turn off other 2. Changed the wiring for black and grey on to and black n grey underneath then it worked!!!!!!!!! Taken me weeks to work it out😱
Have you ever come across the situation where a 1940's house has 2 switches controlling 1 light. But with only a single twin & earth at each switch and the ceiling rose? I figured there must me a junction box somewhere along the installation but still don't understand how it would have been wired back then?! 🤷♂️
Don’t forget to subscribe to the channel for more electrician tips 🤝
This is how u can learn the reality of intermediate switch. Well done!
It is indeed, thankyou
You are a good tutor, nicely presented and easy to understand. All the best.
Thank you, brother, for the teaching. Very clear demonstration.
My pleasure mate
Excellent. And I particularly liked the demo at the end!
Should also do video showing how to do if live & neutral go through the switch
Nice video bro. I always use the 2 plate method. Nicely explained thou 👍🏼
Thanks! 👍

Brilliantly done with clarity.
Excellent tutorial, well presented, thanks so much!
Thank you for tuning in
Very clear explanation. Could you please advise if I can install a dimmer switch instead of one of those switches?
Yes, absolutely! You can definitely install a dimmer switch instead of one of those regular switches. It's a great way to have control over the brightness of your lights and create the perfect ambiance in any room.
Could you do the same with 3 switches instead of 2 ? It can be found easily on the web. Very nice explanation.

It sounds to me like the common is in the wrong terminal on one end mate
Many thanks for the teaching
You are welcome
Best explanation so far thank you 🙏🏻
My pleasure 👍
Great video mate learnt more in 20minutes than 2years in college 😂
Collage is there for the paper work, you need to go out and do it 👍
Hi... thanks but at may house from hallway to upstairs
I have three single switch that turn on all three lights how do I separate in to individual light switch?
At las someone who still says live and earth . And not line and CPC . Good book video 👍
Yes, I have always said live and earth, I think line and Cpc is a book terminology
Nice bro
Very good and helpful video. If it's possible please show 2 plate method for 3 switches. Ie intermediate switch. Thank you
I think it’s up already - check the other videos 👍
Do work in UK where is safety glasses you cutting plasterboard? Nice one
Do the safety squint mate 😂
Brilliant tutorial. I think it would have been handy to mention you could have as many intermediate switches inbetween two 2-way switches.
That could always be another video
Was wondering that. Now I've been informed 👍 Thanks 😊
Great work thanks for your nice explanation 👍.
My pleasure
Can you use an intermittent switch as a 2 way if you just link out both sides at the bottom? Am struggling as only have intermittent for my grid

Nice to see you man ❤
Hey, thanks
You are really doing great
thanks bro its really awesome but could you mind if you do about connecting a socket and a switch
Yes I can
soon you are making us a video@@toolboxtalking
Amazing good explanation...
I aim for amazing and good explanations every time! Glad to see it's working. Stay tuned for more amazingness!
What happens at the dB if I use 3core as my feed to some emergency lights in the hall wat and 2way switches?
How do I wire at the DB?j have black snd brown
There would be no point in using 3 core from the Db unless you want to use a sw live from there too
Could you send me the connection diagram, thanks?
How can u do the serials of Intermediate switches
This is a video to come
Great work brother
Thank you so much 😀
Brilliant mate 👏
Thanks mate. Stay tuned for the Fuseboard upgrade next week
Perfect 👍
Thanks alot I have learned something...
Glad to hear that
❤THANKS for sharing your video 😊
My pleasure 😊
Hi can you do a video how to wire lights and sockets upstairs in 2 rooms only 3 sockets upstairs thanks
What if the feed goes to the switch
Thank you for this. Not sure if it's too basic, but wonder if you can run over some terminology, such as what is common? What color is it normally in new builds or old builds.
Very helpful regardless.
No worries. Common will be brown and L1 will be black then L2 being Black. Both with brown sleeving
Hi mate, If you haven't second fixed the intermediate switch be prepared as everyone wires them differently. I for example don't use the brown as the common, I use the grey, Black as L1 & Brown as L2.
How can I connect trafficator light please
Thanks,
Tutorial👍🙏
Your more than welcome
Nice one Sir,, 👍
Keep it up
Thank you 😊
Brilliant ❤
Thank you
Can have several lights as well, also can add more intermediate switches in between the 2 way switches.
As many intermediate as you want and multiple lamps providing the load doesn't exceed the supply cable or circuit breaker etc.
Might want to redo this video… well presented and easy to follow… however key error is connecting both blacks to intermediate L1s and greys to L2s… will just mean it is constantly on… need to put black and grey from one wire into L1s and black and grey from other wire into L2s…
Wish I’d read this before I started the job😖
Checked all my college drawings and he done it the right way, interesting
How do you connect Solar panel and you get power
Solar panels are connected to the main supply, you can however get a lot of different set ups
The best video I've seen .
That is the best comment I have ever seen - Thank you
Nice working
What's the name of those boxes please! How do they call it the technical name

Great job thanks
My pleasure
Good work
Thanks
Thank You very much for this video Sir
Most welcome
How do I add a fourth intimidate switch?
It would be the same as adding the 3rd, but I could make a video on this 👍
Good informative video thanks mate
Glad you enjoyed it
@@toolboxtalking can we add more lights on same mathod
I love this

Thank you

What about when there linkage
Linkage for what mate?
Good
Thanks
Next time tolk Romanian
@@toolboxtalking you welcome!!
Me tank you because yoi halme in my jhob
I would normally use brown on brown L1 and blue on black L2 use grey as common. And similarly with the older wiring red to red and yellow as common
Good a proffessional work ,but the colour coding in the switches must be red bcz in kenya red is always live
You must be able to tell I'm in the UK mate
Harmonised colours were introduced in 2004 to UK to match the EU. (Brown and blue). Just wondering if Kenya is in the EU?
Thank you 👍
You are welcome

Oh but we do these days
We used to use these years ago 20 intermediate in a row till time lag switches came out
20 in a row? What sort of install?
Why is there no live direct to the switch.
In firsr switch ,where you connect live and neutral
Live in common and neutral L1
In a first switch, you connect the live wire to the common terminal and the neutral wire to the L1 terminal. Make sure to always follow the correct wiring guidelines for safety purposes.

Sure mate, no problem. 👍
The path i don't understand is how you connect the light and the switch
There is a video coming just for you
Great video . How would you add a couple more lights that would be controlled by the same amount of switches ? Would they be simply daisy chained from first light?
Yes mate. Just carry on the L+N to every light 💡
Nice one . Appreciate the vid and your quick reply .
Fantastic
Pls I need the diagram
Of what mate?
!!!!Followed this religiously BUT didnt work. The intermediate switch wouldnt turn off other 2. Changed the wiring for black and grey on to and black n grey underneath then it worked!!!!!!!!! Taken me weeks to work it out😱
You must have gone wrong somewhere, 1000s of sparks have been doing it like this for years
@@toolboxtalking she probably used the wrong pole switches
Next tym on sketch it better to sea connection pleace
Good work, but I don't understood how it happened
Am also an electrician that's why I said that, and I need to understand it very will
It so interesting

lol thought it was Tyson fury in the thumbnail
I will take that 😂
How’s that
How is that?
@@toolboxtalking nice work. I’m an apprentice sparky starting second year now
This thing is so funny to how I know it. There should be no live wire in the light when it switched off. The live should go to the switch first
It depends how it’s wired bud
Good work , but during terminations you need to advance on explaining process, a new learner can understand you!
Thanks for the feedback. I know just what you mean - I do assume everyone knows some bits. Always room for improvement 👍
It's quite obvious to me that all the wires in switch are live only the blue one is neutral and obviously earthing
You're absolutely right! It's important to understand the wiring and safety measures when dealing with switches.
