Great video, quality as always! I learned about L-Tyrosine supplementation online when learning how to deal with negative side effects of amphetamine medications (have been weaning myself off after years of using! 🙌🏻). It’s been really great in combination with a few other things for helping out with the dramatic catecholamine depletion and feelings of stress/anxiety that comes with these kinds of drugs.
I recently just finished a dual major for undergrad consisting of Biology and Exercise science. I remember watching this video almost 4 years ago. I took every single thing in this video since 2018 and boy was it the best energy/ focus stack I have ever used. Thank you so much Thomas for helping me finish my education. ***Too much Teacrine will act as a very powerful diuretic , be careful or you’ll be peeing a lot
I appreciate your comment. I run 2 businesses and am falling behind often because of lack of energy. I'll try everything mentioned in the video just like you did. Did you take certain things at certain times of the day or just took everything sl at one time?
Adding to others... Thom do you have recommendations as to usage? Amount per pound, etc? Do we just follow package instructions? Time of day vs down energy time frsme? Amount of ALA vs carnitine? Do you have a separate video covering the usage posted or one coming up? As an example a nootropic recipe; I read a recommendation of 200 mg caffeine with 600mg of theanine to calm the jitters from the caffeine.
It would really be great to get the dosage required to benefit from these, because even in pills the amount recommended greatly varies from brand to brand... and if we can combine those, how much is too much
Thomas, is it healthy for the brain to take natural nootropics on a daily basis if they don't break your fast? Or will it hurt cognitive function over the long run?
Crazy how well this worked and how much more natural my energy feels. I’ve been following Thomas for a while and he is a smart mf’er and has changed alot of my habits along with Andrew Huberman
Thomas, we need the textbook lectures. They are not that complex to understand. Discovering the science was the difficult part. Now .... Doesn't too much caffeine spike the insulin? And and and, no matter what weight loss route a person takes, he/she will plateau. Breaking the plateau is the real advanced science.
Thomas I have 3 kids four years old and younger. Your videos always hit home and are super appreciated!!! Quick question...does theacrine or tyrosine break a fast?
Define 'break'. I don't believe these have calories, so in terms of energy, definetally not. I know I would certainly use these. In fact, this may enhance your fast.
I'm like you. This is due to genetics (and probably also diet). Try Cupuaçu that has theacrine. Gives me much smoother energy without the caffeine crash. In fact, it is even better than organic match green tea powder for me.
You know what’s crazy i use to feel the same thing with coffee but still drank it to wake up. But when I switched to keto all the symptoms went away now I drink coffee with all the benefits and zero drawbacks.

You just answered my question about carnitine. Thanks. Doing research now to determine if the combinations of supplements (normally on their own that do not break the fast) may actually create a response in the body to spike insulin levels.

SUBSCRIBED: This was incredibly valuable content. I'm young snd relatively healthy yet was hospitalized with C-19. I was really caught by surprise. Especially since my pregnant wife only had mild cold-like symptoms for only 2 days (thankfully). Being a registered nurse, I thought I had done everything I could to prevent myself from getting it. What I failed to think about was my coffee that I would drink throughout the day. Not enough people are talking about coffee (and really, caffeine in general) from this perspective. Caffeine is a diuretic. This means that absorption of many of the vitamins and minerals you take anytime near the consumption of coffee (roughly 2-3 hours after, maybe more), is severely affected. Zinc and vitamin C, two vitamins and minerals well known to support immune function, are needed on a daily basis because our bodies don't store these nutrients. If you sip caffeine throughout the day as I did, you likely won't get much of these nutrients at all, even with a multivitamin, because caffeine will inhibit its absorption. Calcium? Caffeine causes you to excreted through urine and feces as well. This also affects vitamin D as well (another vitamin known to play a role in immune function). As an RN, I knew better, I just never stopped to think about it in depth. Thank you for these great alternatives!!
Learned from a Mexican trio of housecleaners: Large breakfast. No lunch, no breaks, no snacks, no caffeine. Work nonstop till sunset. Repeat. I had to force them to take a break, lol. Same with the Tarahumaran runners, they only ate chicha (pounded corn?) & just kept pushing. In essence move-aholic-ism.
Can you do one on 4 supplements to fall asleep and stay asleep? For those who have tried melatonin, Restavit etc? My fatty liver and weight gain from keto and IF have returned because sleep quality and volume continues to diminish every night... this then stresses me out. Thanks.
Two suggestions, L-Tryptophan about an hour before bed, and gelatin (~1-2 tsp) on an empty stomach, also before bed. In my experience though, after a week of gelatin, I start remaining groggy upon waking, so only a couple times a week. The advantage of the second though is it is easy and cheap. As always, YMMV
MY brain LOVES 50:50 coconut oil:mct oil and about 3-5g BHB. Surge in energy! Like JACKED UP! Smooth energy. I take caffeine and l-theanine, too. Cordeceps as well, but not a big focus on them specifically. Sayin
It would seem that if one was truly healthy, they wouldn't need to search for stimulants. Running yourself down and flogging your adrenals for extra energy is not a healthy thing to do.
this clip reminded me about some of the things I have tried which have worked and some that have not worked....I have found that a beet supplement that seems to give me a boost.. beets happen to be high in ALA which doesn't upset my stomach like the powdered concentrated supplement.... I have taken cordyceps for years which I stopped due to an observance of some peculiar thoughts and inclinations I had while taking them.. tried carnitine... and tyrosine with mixed results and I might try buffering them with magnesium oxide powder which has worked well in preventing stomach reactions to supplements like zinc when I take it.....Alpha lipoic acid in supplement form just doesn't work to well for me due to it causing me throat to burn or have a burning sensation.. and since I struggle with Gerd its off my list... this theacrine supplement might be something to try but after having been reminded about some supplements which work. IF you ever looked on the side of a 5 hour energy bottle it lists Tuarine as one of the ingredients.... I think it may be to help prevent the coming down feelings and might experiment with taurine as well... and if I have too much energy or racey thoughts and really want to quit for the night I have taken glycine at about 500 mg which doesn't just help me wind down but helps me get to sleep shortly after taking it.... I might wake up 2 hours later due to sleep disorder but when I am longing to sleep but cant due to a rough day or find my brain just going and going and going.. glycine seems to due the trick... all melatonin ever seemed to do for me is give me a headache the next morning after taking it and the same goes for tryptophane so if this is helpful to anyone maybe you can use some of the info as well... no offense to anyone just sharing my experiences and what this clip brought about.. anyone else's chemistry might be different and react differently.... and I really like this channel Thomas gives out a lot of good info...
I just started using theacrine. I'll take it with caffeine in the morning and than by itself around 3, whereas before I would just take more caffeine. It gives me enough energy to push through the day. My hope is to cut the caffeine out completely.
If you haven't already, Look into adaptogens to balance your adrenals (Rhodiola Rosea, Holy Basil aka Tulsi, Siberian Ginseng, Ashwagandha) and learn to activate your parasympathetic nervous system (deep breathing, no screen/audio stimulus, resting still, yin yoga, slow massage and lots of rest/sleep). If everything else fails, then alpha/theta neurofeedback. Best of Health!
@@ama-tu-an-ki hi there. You seem like you know what you're talking about. I'm trying to quit caffeine. Do you think these supplements really help? Any other suggestions for supplements ?
I know little, so enough to be dangerous. People way more knowledgeable and smarter than me write this: Heavy, continued coffee (or just caffeine use) can deplete: - amino acid *tyrosine* (fix with extra l-tyrosine or eat more Parmesan, soy product or lamb) - neurotransmitter *serotonin* (fix with extra l-tryptophan, or eat more pumpkin seeds, Mozzarella and lamb) - neurotransmitter *acetylcholine* (fix with extra choline or eat more egg yolks) - neurotransmitter *dopamine* (fix with extra L-dopa, or eat more tyrosine rich foods, like Parmesan, soy product, beef protein & beans) - minerals: *iron, magnesium, potassium, calcium and zinc* (get a good Thorne multimineral or eat more seeds, nuts, organ meats, and dark leafy greens) - vitamins: *B1 (thiamin)* (fix with B-complex, not just B1 or just eat more pork, fish, seeds, nuts, AND coffee withdrawal can induce headaches, for which some of the following may help: - fish oil - turmeric - plain water (keep hydrated) If you can't go cold turkey (recommended, just tought it out for 4-7 days, sauna/sweating can help a lot, if you drink fluids AND replenish your amino acids and minerals), then try going to light green tea first (less caffeine, buffered by l-theanine).
I wouldn't take tyrosine long term. There's not a lot of studies on long term neurotransmitter precursor supplementation. These amino acids need enzymes to break them down. So creating an imbalance can in the long term lead to lower levels of competing neurotransmitters.
Love you videos! Lean so much! do you have any suggestions or tips on controlling the hormone levels with lifestyle and diet? Or know what indications hormonal imbalance?
This is all bunk. Caffeine is never "good for you", and no alternative energy boosters are ever "needed". Just sleep well, exercise vigorously, and live your life's passion. Mission accomplished.
Swamp Hawk SAID: "You're wrong... " REPLY: You may want to do more research before commenting. Here's just some of the numerous facts backing my claim: 1.) The caffeine in coffee increases catecholamines, your stress hormones. The stress response elicits cortisol and increases insulin. Insulin increases inflammation, and this makes you feel lousy. 2.) Habituation to caffeine decreases insulin sensitivity, making it difficult for your cells to respond appropriately to blood sugar. High blood sugar levels lead to arterial deterioration and increased risk of mortality related to cardiovascular disease. 3.) Unfiltered coffee has the highest amount of beneficial antioxidants yet also leaks the most diterpenes into your system. These diterpenes have been linked to higher levels of triglycerides, LDL and VLDL levels. 4.) The helpful chlorogenic acids that may delay glucose absorption in the intestine have also been shown to increase homocysteine levels -- an indicator for increased risk of cardiovascular disease, which tends to be elevated in diabesity. 5.) The acidity of coffee is associated with digestive discomfort, indigestion, heart burn, GERD and dysbiosis (imbalances in your gut flora). 6.) Addiction is often an issue with coffee drinkers and makes it really difficult to rely on the body's natural source of energy. Ask any coffee drinker about how it feels to withdraw from coffee, and you will mistake their story for that of a drug addict's... 7.) Associative addictions trend with coffee -- who doesn't immediately think of warm, frothy sweet cream and sugar when they picture coffee? Surely the business of coffee has inspired a culture addicted to the sugary, fatty tastes of what has become more of a meal than a drink! That morning latte is the epitome of food lacking nutrition density yet packing energy! 8.) 5-HIA, an organic acid and component of the neurotransmitter serotonin (the happy chemical) seen in the urine tends to be elevated in coffee drinkers, which means they may be at risk for lower levels of serotonin synthesis in the brain. Serotonin is necessary for normal sleep, bowel function, mood, and energy levels. It is a vicious cycle, as caffeine can disrupt sleep and promote anxiety and depression. We all know someone who tends to be tired, wired and over-caffeinated! 9.) Elevated urinary excretion of important minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium have been noted in coffee drinkers. An imbalance in your electrolyte status can lead to serious systemic complications. 10.) Constituents in coffee can interfere with normal drug metabolism and detoxification in the liver, making it difficult to regulate the normal detoxification process in the liver. Another issue to be aware of with coffee intake is how certain medications such as levothyroxine (thyroid) as well as tricyclic antidepressants are poorly absorbed, making symptoms curiously worse for patients. and on and on...
This is somewhat individually dependent, but on the average, no. If you eat one teaspoon, perhaps you can still stay in ketosis (assuming NO carbs, sugar from other sources). But even just one tablespoonful will kick some people (not all) out from ketosis. BTW, do cyclical ketosis: carb back load in the evening (moderately).
I'm lost in the information overload. I just want to know what I can drink instead of coffee. I don't like the addiction that comes with caffeine. My thought is, could I use hot coconut/almond milk and use the Bullet Coffee recipes with it?
If you mean Four Sigmatic Cordyceps Elixir, then probably not. It has 1g of carbs, mostly from rose hips and scisandra berries. A single serving shouldn't break the fast.

@@ama-tu-an-ki hi there. You seem like you know what you're talking about. I'm trying to quit caffeine. Do you think these supplements really help? Any other suggestions for supplements ?
I know little, so enough to be dangerous. People way more knowledgeable and smarter than me write this:
Heavy, continued coffee (or just caffeine use) can deplete:
- amino acid *tyrosine* (fix with extra l-tyrosine or eat more Parmesan, soy product or lamb)
- neurotransmitter *serotonin* (fix with extra l-tryptophan, or eat more pumpkin seeds, Mozzarella and lamb)
- neurotransmitter *acetylcholine* (fix with extra choline or eat more egg yolks)
- neurotransmitter *dopamine* (fix with extra L-dopa, or eat more tyrosine rich foods, like Parmesan, soy product, beef protein & beans)
- minerals: *iron, magnesium, potassium, calcium and zinc* (get a good Thorne multimineral or eat more seeds, nuts, organ meats, and dark leafy greens)
- vitamins: *B1 (thiamin)* (fix with B-complex, not just B1 or just eat more pork, fish, seeds, nuts,
AND coffee withdrawal can induce headaches, for which some of the following may help:
- fish oil
- turmeric
- plain water (keep hydrated)
If you can't go cold turkey (recommended, just tought it out for 4-7 days, sauna/sweating can help a lot, if you drink fluids AND replenish your amino acids and minerals), then try going to light green tea first (less caffeine, buffered by l-theanine).

Been taking a tablet made of Alcar and Ala , wash it down with my morning coffee =) Seems to work better than Alcar alone in my prework out.
My question would be…how would you take these products? Is there any mixing of them to get all the benefits.
Or know what indications hormonal imbalance?
make a video on your favorite nootropics (racetams afinils etc)

This is all bunk. Caffeine is never "good for you", and no alternative energy boosters are ever "needed". Just sleep well, exercise vigorously, and live your life's passion. Mission accomplished.
Swamp Hawk SAID: "You're wrong... "
REPLY: You may want to do more research before commenting. Here's just some of the numerous facts backing my claim:
1.) The caffeine in coffee increases catecholamines, your stress hormones.

I have a question...I'm new to KETO for the last month. I am learning a lot and loosing weight. Can you use local RAW Honey and stay in ketosis?
This is somewhat individually dependent, but on the average, no. If you eat one teaspoon, perhaps you can still stay in ketosis (assuming NO carbs, sugar from other sources). But even just one tablespoonful will kick some people (not all) out from ketosis. BTW, do cyclical ketosis: carb back load in the evening (moderately).
I'm lost in the information overload. I just want to know what I can drink instead of coffee. I don't like the addiction that comes with caffeine. My thought is, could I use hot coconut/almond milk and use the Bullet Coffee recipes with it?
Hey Scott. If you haven't found a replacement for your coffee yet and looking to cut out caffeine, check out our review on TAKA™.
i love bullet proof coffee..The fat (butter and MTC oil) together with the caffeine from the coffee gives you a boost of energy to start your day.
This only works if your on a keto diet right?
Forever Seeking what do mean...
You're my hit of caffeine Thom 🤣
Will the CORDYCEPS ELIXIR break a fast?
If you mean Four Sigmatic Cordyceps Elixir, then probably not. It has 1g of carbs, mostly from rose hips and scisandra berries. A single serving shouldn't break the fast.
Which CBC oil you recommend please
my question is you said to combine the first two but how much and with water only?
Now if he only said where you can get these or the best way to ingest them...
