    It should be noted that Bavaria as a state had already existed as a duchy for over a thousand years before it became a kingdom in 1806. The Wittelsbach dynasty ruled Bavaria for over 700 years and provided two Holy Roman Emperors during this time.

      I think so as well. I think it's a shame. I guess the price depends on the notoriety or fame of the people who wore them. If Princess DIana had been seen wearing them, they would have fetched millions.

      Please, please, before you begin to describe and tell us about the beautiful jewellery would it be at all possible to LEARN to read the names of the various jewels etc. I have never heard such really dreadful mispronounciations of words that, being in the public domain, you should be able to pronounce. This particular item is so very interesting but totally 1:18 spoiled for everyone by your inability to pronounce words.

  • @NancyM1115
    @NancyM1115 Месяц назад +5

    The ruby and spinel parure is magnificent. The craftsmanship and design on many are unlike any in the European court. The tiara from the ruby and spinel set does look quite heavy, but how glorious! Just one note, the correct pronunciation of ‘parure’ is ‘par-WHUR’ however, as the voice pronounced it a bit differently each time, which is odd for an AI voice. It isn't the easiest word for English speakers to say. If you type in goggle “how to pronounce the word parure”, you’ll get a voice speaking the word.

    I know that it's just bejeweled and not jewelry, but I wish you had talked about the statue of St George and the dragon (shown twice in the video). Many years ago I was gifted a calendar of "Treasures from the Wittelsbach Treasury" for helping sort out an issue between my employer and Bayerische Landesbank. After seeing this item, I had always wanted to go to Munich to see it. I was not disappointed when I was finally able to go and see it.

      You are both right, of course, depending on whether you pronounce it High-German or Bavarian. But what I don't understand about English speakers is this "th" thing. So for English speakers: There is no "th" in German. Never. Ever! If there is a "th", the vowel is long. (For instance, the name "Roth". It is pronounced "Roat".)

      Not like I would ever get to wear it, but it would be something if that tiara came apart into two, even three perhaps, smaller tiaras to be worn at "lesser occasions". 😉 The Stuart tiara (Netherlands) can be worn in less overwhelming configurations. This one looks as if made for an empress; or the wife of a shah. 🤷

    I wonder if any of these were bought by Queen Elizabeth or her family at the auction? Obviously they wouldn't attend the auction themselves but there could be people that are there to serve this purpose. Then again, i suppose it might be considered badluck for a Queen or Princess to wear a diadem of a fallen Royal house
