Love my 1990 DX 8 3/8 in barrel in mint condition and these revolvers were the MOST accurate handguns that ever left the Smith & Wesson factory and the paper target included in the purchase is living proof of that !!! In the purchase you got a nice set of wood grips, a nice S&W pachmare grips and several different front sights and yes the drilled and tapped ready for any of your favorite optic sights !!
Love your content. I never knew what the DX was all about. Now I am edumacated. When I got my first handgun it was a S&W 629 Classic with a 6.5" barrel, but not a DX. This was a little over a quarter of a century ago. A separate handgun season was opened up for the first time in several countries that had large deer populations. It was doe only and was intended for population control. That will become important later. When I got the gun, I went to an indoor, 25-yard range with a wide variety of ammo. I shot about 200 rounds and recorded each target. I got the best accuracy with a Winchester 210gr Silvertip. I also had some Black Hills 300gr. A fun fact was that the cylinder got very hot. I was using fingertip less shooting gloves (still have them) and toward the end I could hear the skin sizzle when I pushed out the cylinder. For does, the Silvertips were just fine. Then they opened things up and let us use the handgun, in addition to our long guns, for the regular deer season. When I shot my first large buck, it took several rounds to put him down. I then switched to Remington 275gr JHP. I don't see those listed anymore. I got good accuracy with that load sighting in at 75 yards (at that point I had an outdoor range and a retired military sniper helping me out). Later I switched to the Hornady 240gr XTP and have had great luck with that as well.
Outstanding product! I had one of the earliest 629 Performance Center 44's--it was amazingly accurate and flawless in operation--if you miss it's your fault! The removable weights made the shooting experience totally customized to bullet weight and your style. I love all things 44 Magnum and Smith 29's and 629 are my FAVS! Also--44 Specials are just smooth as glass in a 44 Mag pistola! Thnx Jerry!
I think a tuned Super Redhawk 454 Casull is a nicer piece (not prettier), but that's just me. 44 magnum is proven and just a little more kind to the hand. 454 carries the energy at 100 yards as about equivalent to a 44 magnum does at the muzzle.
Good info. Super happy with all my 44s over the years. Have enjoyed Hunting with them myself. Interesting perspective in the 300 grain. I need to test that hypothesis out. Good excuse to do more shooting.
Can you give advice on how to shoot like jerry do you stay focused on front sight while transitioning targets or do you refocus after repositioning I guess just break down techniques you use how you shoot on the go and how so fast and accurate and how you master trigger reset for speed
I carried the Hornady critical defense flex tip and nine and 45 for a many years but when I found out they mandated all employees get the job to work for their company at Hornady no more.
Thanks for the informative video Jerry. Some years ago I bought a 629 DX ported from the factory, it has a fairly large port just forward of the front sight. I have never seen one like it before or since. It loves the Hornady lever evolution with the flex tip. I had no idea I could shoot a handgun so well. The Smith takes all the credit for that. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours
I remember when every Smith & Wesson that came in a wooden display box had a test target included with everyone sold. That must mean I am as old as you are. I have a 629-silhouette model that came with a set of interchanging front sights. It has a 50, 100, 150 and 200-meter blade set. They really worked great, but you have use 240-grain bullets with a velocity of 1,340-feet per-second for the sights to work. It also has a standard red ramp insert blade too.👴 If you use some 240-grain Sierra Jacketed Hollow Points and Blue Dot-Powder, you will get the accuracy you want.
"probably you Bubba, not the gun!" I love that - - - - - as I age , no actually, the less I PRACTICE, that has been me for a few years!. Love ya man...And you gotta be proud of your daughter. She does some real fine educational videos. Keep rollin my man!!!
I have a S&W model 29-4 with 5" barrel, and an unfluted cylinder. Was told S&W only made 500 of them, anyone who knows these guns I would appreciate it. Merry Christmas Jerry and family !
I bought a regular 629 a couple years ago and was stunned by how accurate it is. The big boom makes it extra fun to shoot. A shame they don't conceal well.
Long bearing surface is why wadcutters do so well. No weight is moved beyond or behind(as in boat tails) the rifling. There is advantage to the long noses and boat tails for the forces encountered OUTSIDE the barrel, but the bearing surface is what gives the best stabilization inside the barrel. It can be done with bands, but that increases the difficulty/cost of production.
When he said that he hunts deer with the revolver. I instantly felt sorry for the deers. How many bullet holes does the deer have before it hits the ground? We all know how fast Jerry can shoot 😂
I cast Keith's 250's. Very accurate in the Super Bee and Contender. If pain is your idea of fun, a 300 grain Sierra over a full case of H110 will do it.
I’d love to know who’s running this channel. Why is there music over Jerry talking? Why are the video topics so all over the place? It’s so frustrating and baffling.

I have a 86 model 29 with 8 3/8 barrel. It's my pride and joy.
I have one of those! Bought it new and still have original box.

If Jerry says a gun is gun of the week, well, its gun of the week. Any questions? Didn't think so

Going out to Santa........put a 629 DX on the list please.

2 moa out of a revolver. That's better than most military rifles

mines not a DX but I can still make a nice tight group :) mine is probably a DV or a DW ;)
Muy bueno tu vídeo saludos desde Argentina
This really makes me want to put a red dot on my 4” s&w 500 magnum just because it would look ridiculous
My favorite handgun is my 44 Dan Wesson 8" with 2× scope! Excellent hog and deer gun bush beater here in Florida! GET SOME!
Shhh. Hes not promoting that one....
MAKE MY DAY
Thanks Jerry. Good luck hunting! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
The background makes me nervous...can't find anything...I want to organize it.

I always thought misses were my fault !! So where did the non-fluted clyinder come in on the 629's ? Thought those WERE Classic DX's .
Your fan from Pakistan
So thanks to the DX models we can't expect to find an accurate revolver in the non DX line up?
Great content but you can ditch the music. Very distracting.
Oldschool 529 Blued is what I like.
Thanks Jerry. Much appreciated.
I too had better luck with heavier than 240 grains in the Classic Hunter.

That 300gr. is also nice loaded in a .445 Super Mag.

Are there 629DX available now in the marketplace?

👍
I used to have a 357 686 w/8" barrel, I loved that gun, wish I still had it.
@Jerrymiculekproshooter SCAMMER
Lots of respect for Jerry
Good down to earth and respectful of others
I could listen to this man talk all day 😁
@Jerrymiculekproshooter SCAMMER
🔫👍
I’ve had very good accuracy with the Keith SWC 255 grain!
Around 4 years ago I started loading the fine 310 grain bullet with very good accuracy!

I'm not sure if Big Blue is like Colt and can run a serial number but shoot them an email and ask if they can give you any information on it.
Bada$$
Love my 629 Classic Hunter with the unfluted cylinder.
Looks so much better and supposedly can handle hotter loads.

also they take up a lot of dead space in the cavernous cartridge that reduces efficiency.
@@ironmonkey1512 "dead space" can be removed by deeper seating in straight walled cartridges.
Brother had one. Damn shame he sold it. It was accurate and 😍
@Jerrymiculekproshooter SCAMMER
🙂👍☕
The standard Classics were identical to the DX's except for the accuracy guarantee and target that came with them.
@Jerrymiculekproshooter SCAMMER
DX also came with two sets of grips
@@chrisoffutt8968 That's correct, but the as far as then guns themselves, they were identical with the exception as I mentioned above.
one of my faves,i got a dan wesson 44 w/4 barrels,4,6,8,10,shoots 1 inch groups at 100yrds/no shit

Gun of the week is a bit of a.misleading title. I think you mean paid promotion of the week
Something about the looks of a revolver with an optic on it just bothers me.
