I totally agree with you. I have the TS120 SE since Feb 2023 and love it. The best sounding amp I ever had. Before I had an Italian tube amp (Pathos Heritage - 80 Was in class A) that cost 4 times the price of the Galion... When Thomas landed me the Galion to try it, it took me 5 minutes to decide that I have to by one. Never regret this decision.
Thanks David for this fantastic review and glad you really enjoying it. Just a small correction, the TS120SE you are using has the upgraded Shuguang KT88 tubes. Those tubes has less air than the stock PSVANE KT88 but it has better bass control. Both are excellent, just a question of taste. I personally like the Mullard the most because it gives the TS120SE a more 'tubey' sound but at the expense of losing bass as you said.
Thanks for the correction, Thomas. I need to get a set of better KT88s. I have a set of cheap PSvane KT88s that sound rather insipid. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello my friend your channel has come a long way since I first started watching you. when you were raving about your garage sale purchases and how great they sounded. And how dumb other folks were for spending all that money on Hi-Fi gear. Don't be afraid to call the Galion TS 120 the best amplifier you ever listen to because it is.
Hi Dave, nice job on that review. I always enjoy your show. I have always wanted a nice tube amp but at 70, I’m held back by the weight. I already have a McIntosh MC2155 that has claimed a forever spot on my rack. In other words, at 80 lbs, if it breaks, I can no longer lift it. I recently bought a used Rogue Sphinx V2 with a tube front end and a Hypex Class D power section. 25 lbs, now we’re talking.
I have the standard version and absolutely love it. I had the opportunity to compare it to the Special Edition, and you can't go wrong with either model.
This is one i REALLY want to try. I listen to every episode that Thomas publishes(as well as yours) im very impressed with the way he involves his friends in his reviews. Who knows, maybe someday i will be ble to afford one of these!(Im 66 now, so...lol) Thanks for the review!
with this review... shit... I'm in trouble... got to start eating instant noodles for at least 6 months to buy the TS120SE... sigh.... thank you for the good review!!!
What I like about it , is the fact that it has features that other tube amps either rarely or never have : tape out ! excellent for my ReVox reel-to-reels , sub , tone controls , HT , noise reduction and a sound switch. On the other hand , the price ...mmm.... I think I could purchase a very good A-B transistor power amp , combine it with a tube pre-amp and get same results for a lower price . But would miss the tape-out or sub or tone controls ...which means purchase a seperate tone control and extra output unit .....so in the end .....yeah ....maybe this one is THE ONE. Give me one please and I'll reserve a place for you in Nirwana .
Class A .....triode , is superior BUT AB and UL suits the needs of most loudspeakers that need a kick under the but . High quality /high sensitiviy , high impedance Loudspeakers engineerd for tube amplifiers will expose the superiority of tubes, class A and triode operation............;;the problem is not the amplifier . In most mariage the working husband has to provide the needs of a ( greedy ) spouse
he didnt design the amp. the TS120 is an improved version of the doge 10mk3, which doge designed and built. they build the TS120 as well. dunno about se or other iterations. .
you want clarity , dynamics , resolution , get yourself a pair of 3 way active ATC SCM ASL monitors , because your not going to get everything possible from source and preamp delivered intact from a passive system like yours 🤣🤣🤣

Heretic AD612 is a good match 👌

@@MODAC The opening of the video is so nice. Would love to go on a Galleon ship one day.
Good day sir give the Cryotone tubes a shot. You will not be disappointed. They took my TS120 to another level, big time.@@MODAC

That ship is amazing!!!
Thanks for the brief tour of the Spanish Galleon. Very cool.
I have the standard version and absolutely love it. I had the opportunity to compare it to the Special Edition, and you can't go wrong with either model.
You have a nice channel as well.
Thats a very clever desk setup! Using floor standers like desktop speakers, great idea!
That was so cool to see the Spanish Galion 👍👍👍

This is the most complete hi-fi video on RUclips I've seen so far, with the intro and everything else in it...

I don't see myself replacing my Beasty mighty GFA555 MK2 nor my 545 MK2. They do the job and they do it so well.
He didn't design this amplifier .........he voiced a production amplifier , with succes ...
I like heavy.
Isn't this the old amp? I think Thomas is pushing for the class a amp
Still selling this one.

Yes, I am aware. Thanks.
@@MODAC then correct the statement in your video where u said he designed this amp.
I’m not going to re-edit the video. Thx

You mean massive boxes with transformers inside.by the way massive dosent equate to quality.
