I live in Gloversville and this is not the majority of the town. My home has even been in country sampler magazine. You literally focused on one small portion. My RUclips channel shows my home and I will soon post a drive through of our beautiful community. If you’re going to show the bad you should also show the good or else this is deliberately misleading.

Hey, I just had a conversation with someone running a Facebook page about Gloversville, about this, after he spouted off about “low civic self esteem”.
He doesn’t see a problem with this video…
      How whacked is that???

Old comment, but at least half of the "good side" of gloversville is gang controlled territory, no matter how nice and well taken care of it is. Most of the town is. The parks are filled with teenagers who have pistols hidden in their pants.
      Still a hood.

Thank you NG. I research the towns you visit. The official Gloversville website is bright and cheerful of course. Your drive-throughs show a different aspect.

Every city/town has nice and not so nice neighborhoods. The fact that this looks like it is being filmed in very early spring doesn't help matters. Upstate NY is notoriously filthy this time of year because of all the leftover sand/salt from snowy, icy roads!! When spring rains wash everything up it looks alot better.

    • @doreenblatz2440
      @doreenblatz2440 2 года назад +2

@@sierrachoco5271 I was thinking the same thing. What I do notice is there isn’t trash, junk and old tires laying around like in some of the older neighborhoods.

That’s because those running this town focus only on downtown. 10 million dollar grant to “revitalize” downtown, yet, we just had a major water main break on our over 100 year old water system. Repair and do the bare minimum there.
We will never get the volume of visitors here that the uppercrust running this town thinks…sad

Thank you for taking me on a trip on down memory lane I will never forget my childhood. I spent all of my childhood on Oakland Avenue but moved when I entered the 5th grade to Caroga Lake NY and after my grandma and mom passed away I moved to Florida then after living there for almost 15 years I moved in with a friend in NC it will be my 29th birthday in a few days and now I feel I've lost myself on this journey we call life. Cheers to 29 more I guess and take care friend 😊
    Edit:
You actually passed by both the pizza and calzone place that I would frequent with my parents. That Golf gas station I used to be able to buy 5¢ Bazooka Joe Bubble Gum and I'd always see people playing basketball in the court across the street from it. When you were at 12:19 you literally turned left onto the road I lived on as a kid. Gloversville looks like shit from what I remember though.. I guess times really do change.

@@MichaelScott-ui5uf ..As did I. When he stops at the sign(with the Guard Armory in the pic), then turns left onto Judson, that house with the tree trunk...House looks way different without the porch. Back when I lived there the store on the other corner was still open, 2 massive trees in the front yard. Bob Coles, Mendettas, and Leonzo Pizza, all less than a 5 minute walk. Walking to Park Terrace in the morning was all uphill/downhill in the afternoons. Hated snow shoveling that sidewalk...

Thank you NG.. Upstate NY has changed and ran it course .. it’s absolutely Abandon and look so raggedy now. ..It use to be a nice place to live many years ago in the early 2000’s It’s a shame the government allow upstate New York to look like this. It’s nothing up state New York anymore but a bunch of old houses that they need to fix up in each town. The government is all about money. People always been a hard-working money trying to live comfortable upstate they can’t even do that. Because of the economy.

but it looks like everyone has to get to a main drag to buy a soda and some chips.

I grew up in these areas, literally. Forest street, Washington St. etc. I lived on Montgomery St as a child in the 70's - early 80's. Back then it was your typical blue collar working class neighborhood. There were some rough homes in disrepair, but nothing like now. You cant blame the economic situation on local government. No doubt, the county and municipalities have made bad financial decisions at times but that is not the root cause. It's a global economy today and in an effort to attract manufacturing not only are we competing with cheap foreign labor like the rest of the country, we have geographical deficiencies on the local level as well. No direct access to the thruway, no rail line, the closest port is in Albany, and our Airport on rte. 67 is not large enough to handle the shipping needs of manufacturing. We have had to give large tax breaks in recent years to entice any new manufacturing in the area. Because the area is economically depressed people are willing to work for low wages. Unfortunately if we didn't provide the tax incentives and have people willing to work for lower wages we wouldn't have any industry. Another problem is our largest employer ( lexington) is tax exempt. We would be in a world of trouble if they packed up and left the area, but make no mistake they are also a financial burden on the taxpayers of the area. Almost everything they purchase is tax exempt, as well as all the properties they own. In addition all the clients they serve are supported by Medicaid until they are old enough to receive Medicare. We pay a large portion of this through local taxes. I wouldn't want to see them leave, they employ too many people, both directly and through the local businesses they patronize, but I have to wonder with responsible spending by local governments, how much lower our property taxes could be if our largest employer and real estate holder in the county wasn't a non-profit.

Rentals are part of the problem. Had a home in the neighboring city. A nice neighborhood with most homes owner occupied. The last 10 years many homes were split into rentals. Blight and crime increased as a result.

Gloversville is like most other rust belt cities and communities, when industry left, everything else left along with it and these places were left to struggle and fend for themselves with hardly any tax base and employment. So obviously there is a lot of decay and the streets are dead.

Yep. And currently we have Mayor Desantis who is trying to get rid of our police chief because he highlighted the drug problem here. All he does is throw money at our Main Street, which will never see a return because NO ONE comes here unless they have family here.
    It’s disgusting, to be honest.
I brought this video up to someone who has an “in” with city government here.
Basically got a shrug-shoulders type response

Ive got a bit of an observation with a question. I am from Liverpool an i buzz off watching these vids about American areas. Me observation is that ive noticed the only area where white people sit/loiter outside all day is the hoods in philly. An does anyone know the reason why in every poor black area shown on these vids that the black people all sit outside on corners, house steps and shops? Why is it so prevalent among black communities to act this way. Its not just in hot areas like Florida an that its in all black ares in all cities. Even cold ones like detroit and chicago. On the few vids ive seen about white areas they all just sit off in their houses by the look of it except in philly as mentioned above. Can someone give me a bit of insight regarding this. In my city liverpool people only hang around on the streets in the summer mostly. You do have gangs in my city that hang around shops, streets an houses but nearly 100% of the time these are gangs selling crack an heroin.
