I did an internship there earlier this year and since I’m from a different country I noticed there were a lot of reasons as to why this is from a foreign perspective. Albany is too reliant on cars still, many people live outside the city, within suburbs and go shopping in the absurd about of strip malls littered around the outskirts (largest Walmart in the country and Crossgates being examples). For this reason Downtown suffers, it’s dead, which leaves little incentive to go there, so people continue to abandon the inner city in favour of the suburbs. However, I did see and hear that a lot of revitalisation was occurring. New property sales, new businesses, pedestrian planning, etc. Give it 10 years and I can see Albany becoming a whole new city if all goes well, a city that might be worth talking about outside of political talk.

i feel like pine hills isnt much different.. at least over by quail and Ontario. .. just fewer trees and more 2 family style homes filled with students xD
Unfortunately, this is what most of New York looks like... Derelict, abandoned buildings, boarded-up and broken windows, weeds and overgrowth everywhere; drugs, thugs, prostitutes and just general despair...
Ayyyyy my home town. Know this city like the back of my hand. There’s been a shooting every day here and in Troy for the past like 5 months. Shits getting out of hand honestly. Some of the areas you were in, the cops don’t even stroll through there at night. Everyone walks with their straps out right in their hand.
Benghali In Platforms Actually black people are the most targeted here. Albany and Troy have the most racist cops I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I’m white but because I have black friends they identify me as one of them. But it is what it is. Most of the population here is very diverse. The only ones who see color are the police and hicks.
My mom has lived there since 2006 with a woman who is supposed to be her girlfriend. My mom lets this woman control her and refuses to leave or see her family in Maryland including me because the woman doesn't want her to. My mom skipped both of her parent's funerals and my college graduation because the woman would "not allow" her to return to Albany if she left to visit family. The woman is insane and yells at people and hits them, but for some reason my mom is choosing to stay there, as is my sister who is basically supporting them both since they are both in poor health and both unemployed. I worry about my mom all the time and even though the woman is nice a lot of the time, she becomes unhinged over the smallest things and will go off on a tangent for hours and attack anyone who dares to argue with her. I just wish I could see my mom more because I really miss her and she never calls me even though she does want to talk to me. I always have to call her, which irritates me because I feel like I have to play by her rules.
I live in nyc and there were big differences between them. However they are both now cesspools of violence, unemployment, and homelessness. Reminds me of the 1970s.
When a particular group of people end up being the majority in a certain area, that area tends to look like shit and have massive amounts of violent crime. Meanwhile, all the areas surrounding the city of Albany have a different group of people in the majority and those areas are thriving. Really makes you wonder…
My sister worked for the NY Parole board and her car was stolen parked behind her office building in the handicapped spot. Yes, it was near the hood in Albany. Most of the city is the hood.
I've seen them a lot in the capital district region all the way up to Glens Falls. I think they mean that the local city government has deemed the building unsafe to enter and inhabitable.

@Sarah Jane No doubt. Me to be honest I have not lived in Minneapolis for over 30 years. The young people in this video are much different than the ones I used to know in the early 1980's. Where I live in small town Central Minnesota, people there think they are experts on how people live in the bigger cities because they watch mainstream media news. It's like I'm on another planet.

It was very one that Christmas Eve and Christmas day about 66 degrees. There was something magical about South Pearl Street with a cobblestones glimmering in the night.later on my boyfriend's brother told us that South Pearl Street wasn't the best place to be but we had stopped at a gas station to ask directions we are in the wrong place. But nothing happened it was Christmas Eve and the weather was beautiful.

@@tiffanielafleur6597 true
i feel like pine hills isnt much different.. at least over by quail and Ontario. .. just fewer trees and more 2 family style homes filled with students xD
Albany, Schenectady and Troy make up the Capital Region metro area.
Don't let the trees fool you.
Troy is the worst
@@realMrHudson All 3 cities have there moments. I wouldn't say Troys the worst.
Schenectady is pretty bad also lol
troy got like 2k ppl
Use to work at homeless shelter for alcoholics on North Pearl street.
Wait, there’s projects in Albany?? WHATTT 🤣. Thumbnail looks like the BX
Yeah alot of em too
Albany is like the 6th borough.
Clay Alston nah Newburgh is
@@globoy6661 Never been to Newburg. I hear it's like the BX
@@globoy6661 Newburgh is a major shit hole. They should bulldoze that and the city of Poughkeepsie into the Hudson.
Great video. One of your best!
Structurally, this city looks pretty good. Also, probably because it is daytime, looks pretty peaceful.
Keep up the good work.
Unfortunately, this is what most of New York looks like... Derelict, abandoned buildings, boarded-up and broken windows, weeds and overgrowth everywhere; drugs, thugs, prostitutes and just general despair...
This is what the city of utica land rome looks like...the whole thing. Albany has more good neighborhoods than bad ones. City still has life
Prostitutes 🤔
Actual bullshit. Most of NY does NOT look like this. Some of the cities have a shitty side of town. Don't be so ignorant 🤡
I remember getting lost here on ny way to mt shift at the hospital. Amazing what a few turns can get you to
Correct me if I'm wrong but, did we just ride through Arbor hill? It's been a minute.
Hes deffently not wrong its wild out hrre
Benghali In Platforms Actually black people are the most targeted here. Albany and Troy have the most racist cops I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I’m white but because I have black friends they identify me as one of them. But it is what it is. Most of the population here is very diverse. The only ones who see color are the police and hicks.
It's not bad
CheeeezPIC yeah, all those black medical doctors in Albany, NY who are “targeted because of their race.” 🙄
Fran Graham you’re not from here.
My fam live out there they hate it lol ima go visit tho see whats the difference between Albany and nyc thanks Charlie 🙌🏼💯
Word is bond 👑😎💯
My mom used to not even talk to me at all though for several years even if I was the one calling, so I guess at least now she talks to me.

Upstate kkk member spotted
But fr come on man lol that's the situation with most hoods in the us
European hoods are mostly white and still hood
😭😭😭 I'd love to know what this man is driving
this looks more hood than some of those other New York vids .. like buffalo and Staten Island .. but not the bronx the bronx looks hood
Looks can be deceiving NYC has been scary the last 2 years.
So much atmosphere and character. I would love to live there.
My sister worked for the NY Parole board and her car was stolen parked behind her office building in the handicapped spot. Yes, it was near the hood in Albany. Most of the city is the hood.
Is it a big difference between upstate ny and nyc?
All those red placards with white X's on buildings tells you a lot about Albany's condition.
I've seen them a lot in the capital district region all the way up to Glens Falls. I think they mean that the local city government has deemed the building unsafe to enter and inhabitable.
Correct in the unsafe and unlivable
Is is rundown like most cities in New York but every clean, to trash. I am inLos Angles and this area is Much cleaner no homeless or garbage everywhere. Thanks
That's my fucking city. Smallbany let's goooo lol
My sister in law lives under the Henry Johnson overpass and her landlord is the definition of a slumlord.
U gotta do Schenectady
The capital of Connecticut, Hartford is run down shabby look like this.
You would think the capitals of ct and ny look decent
Same w Trenton NJ
Yo I literally just drove down that street today😂
Guy in red shirt wearing a backpack looks at the car for a long time. 9:56
@Sarah Jane That is possible.
He looks like he's waiting for Charlie to pass so he can cross the street lol
I live by this and yes this really is the hood of Albany Albany NY
The streets of Albany are terrible. Only roads that get taken care are where important people live
@@nicholasolsiewski7876 I live in Glenmont. Like another world.
I left Albany and employment for Albany School District in 2009. Very sad changes as my mother's family lived here starting in 1832.
I love this videos. Thanks my man.
I love my city 🤞🏽
Gangsta
3rd St my original hood where I grew up straight ghetto
You either never seen better or just suicidal . Nobody normal can love this.
I love and hate it lol
Hankyou Mikey pitbull
I legit live down the street from here- but i live in the suburbs
All of Albany doesn’t look like this. It’s literally a small section of Albany.
Nowhere in the video does it say that all of Albany looks like this.
Did I say it did ? No I simply stated what I felt like stating.
Not that small
Down town and Schenectady are the majority of Albany most of it looks like this if u don’t see this you probably rich living in the suburbs and you don’t stay down there most of the time.
MO_VR Schenectady is a part of Albany County not the city of Albany. So once again ALL of Albany does not look like this.
Brings back memories, from nyc visiting Albany... well stranded there and that place molded me 👌👌👌
i love this, it's like charlie boi is your ghetto tour guide
I grew up on Delaware Ave.. albany will always be my hometown its gone downhill the last 25 years.
Albany cold af! I had to come back to Florida.
State capitals seem to have the same look. Resembles Harrisburg
Old Tartarian buildings that we cannot build to this day.
Omg not in the slightest. Albany is NOTHING like that shit hole of Harrisburg
It’s horrible out here moved from the city and i honestly expected the capital to be better would not recommend for anyone to move to this part it’s depressing and nothing to do
It's funny because the space between the city and Albany is actually nice
Very depressing. Left Albany area in 2017. Sadly shootings have become much worse in recent years. 100+ year old buildings continue to decay.
Im like like 30 mins away and you didn't go to Lombardo's thats where u get the 40s
And 75¢ Lucy's

South Pearl Street. Someone just spoke that name here on the messages.I was on South Pearl Street with my boyfriend on Christmas Eve 2015. It's still had cobblestone streets and very old buildings.
They keep the stone streets intentionally for historic values
@@ahziidagutta6059 yes and I love that area it was beautiful on Christmas Eve I don't care how old or rundown it might be I loved it
It gives me a little bit of a detroit vibe mixing with southern and san francisco at the same time
I have visited Albany so many times and know the Central Avenue area pretty well. I didn't know it could be such a dangerous hood.
Lived in a project in Albany for the first 3-4 years of my life.
I live in the Bronx now but a native lf NC ,Durham , and although the vibe here seems southern one fundamental difference is we have Apartment complexes on the whole whereas Northern cities have Row houses\Apartments. Also northern cities are vastly unilateral and down south is most suburban in nature. Thank you brother for teaching us .
Most of upstate ny I'd rural and suburban with a southern feeling
I live in Albany Oregon and thank God I do.....
cubbiotti1980 been to Portland lately?
Say hi to Gary the Conqueror.

When you see a red sign with a white X that means a condemned house. Lots of them in Albany.
Just drove up through Albany 2 weeks ago first time ever up in upstate ny my daughter lives in ballston springs got to see Troy and some areas up there then headed back through vermont and mass and conn any ways nice to see cities i really have not got to see
